The Persona series has always been a weird franchise, teenager going to school, while simultaneously fighting against demons, through the power of Personas, reflection of their inner self, being of immense power.

the game are wacky, but most importantly they are excellent JRPGS. Persona 3 tackled the theme of depression and darkness, while Persona 4 went with a more upbeat mood with the central focus being friendship

So what is the theme of P5? Rebellion and corruption, a group of highschooler that decides to reform society by punishing evil people by "stealing their heart". The idea isn't game-changing in itself, but it's everything else that makes this game so wonderful.

The characters (both of the party and side characters) are deeply troubled and the stories they tell are really interesting. it truly feels like you are using your time to know these people better, to help them overcome their hardships.

The game is also stylish as hell, the sub-area of Tokyo and the palaces (dungeon) are jawdropping and the soundtrack composed by Shoji Meguro is incredible as always (seriously, i think it's among the best soundtrack ever, on par with masterpieces like Ocarina of Time), using acid-jazz and industrial influence to create a unique atmosphere.

Lastly, the combat system is very engaging, a turn system that rewards knowledge of your enemy and tactical approach.

Persona 5 is a masterpiece in world building, story telling, combat mechanics and visuals. Just buy it if you haven't (beware of the length, the game is at least 60h)

Just to clarify, I have never played any long JRPG or RPGs in general. The only game that can even be considered these 2 genres is Pokemon. After the game won the best RPG in 2017 and even a nomination for game of the year, I was pretty interested but didn't own a PS4 at the time. After then buying a PS4, I remembered the game when the main character was added to Super Smash Bros Ultimate, a game I had been anticipating since March. After playing the game to its completion, and crying my eyes out about 3/4 of the way through, I've realized how amazing this game is. From the shining colors to the music that's too amazing I can't stop listening. Then there's the UI. The UI should be put in a museum its that stylized. And if you're concerned about the story, it has twists and turns, with certain scenes that really have a lasting impression on you, and let you connect with the characters. The combat is also very interesting since it's half of the game. Being a slice of life/visual novel some days and the infiltration JRPG battles in the other. Personally, I find that the music, the subtle sound effects whenever you go into menus, and the flashy attacks make the JRPG formula of standing around and hitting people from a few feet away, make it a lot more satisfying. But one of my favorite parts of the game is how you manage your time. Maybe one day you hang out with a friend called a confidant, which gives you the upper hand in battle, like instantly escaping a battle if you so please or letting you start the battle with a barrage of bullets. This makes the visual novel aspect play into the dungeon-crawling JRPG aspect. If you love JRPGS, a riveting story, fun combat, and a beautiful presentation, you need to play this game. Expand

    Game-play: 2
Not only is it an improvement over P5 by leaps and bounds, this game-play is so solid I expect copy-cats for years to come.

    Music/Sound: 2
The music is solid with a large library and strong voice acting (in both English and Japanese!)

    Graphics & Visuals: 2
The graphics are brought into the modern age from P4's outdated models into more contemporary ones. The menus are flashy and fun and there are great, original battle effects.

    Story/World-building: 1
Good, but not as good as some claim. The writing quality wains and the story continues, being very strong for the first few dungeons while becoming nearly nonsense by the last few with plot-points dropped and plot-holes abundant.

    Characters: 2
This is one of the games strong-points. Each character has a storyline about being oppressed by the world around them or the expectations society places on them making for rich, developed characters that are interesting. While some of the confidant routes are unfocused, the characters themselves are some of the best in the series.

Best JRPG of the last two generations because it has the best combat system (a classic turn based system with many modern, interesting, challenging and enjoyable tweaks), a coherent, deeply crafted, modern and realistic pseudo-fantasy setting, a huge amount of mostly well written dialogues, a good, long and satisfying story, interesting and quite mature issues (populism in politics and in every day life, bandwagon mentality, sex industry in Japan...) lots of side stories, one of the most amazing OSTs ever made. All these things are absent in most JRPGs of the last two generations, let alone finding them all in one single game.

I am veteran who has played Persona 3 and all of its spin-offs, Persona 4 and all of its spin-offs and I can confidently say Persona 5 has not disappointed me. While it changed and added many features the game still felt familiar.

    Plot:
This is a persona game. What is a persona game without a good plot? Fans of new and old, I'm proud to report that persona 5 is not lacking when it comes to this. I can't count how many times I lost sleep saying 'just 1 day more' only to find out four hours later that a month has already passed in game. I just couldn't let go of my wireless just to find out what's next.

    Game-play (dungeon crawling):
While many newcomers would complain 'wahhh why is it turn based doiiii' as drool ooze from their mouths and before they go back to their call of duties and halos, this game sticks to the gentleman's game and it's amazing. You attack, use your skills, or defend before your party's turn ends. While it sounds simple enough, it really requires a lot of preparation and strategy or you might find yourself smashing your face against an enemy with a physical wall, ending your miserable life embarrassingly and instantly in your own turn.

    Characters:
Unlike in other games where characters can be replaced by mannequins and the game would still go on. Every other character in this game is memorable. Even our silent protagonist has more endearing traits than the noisy 'heroes' who talk a lot but say absolutely nothing. Every character works as intended. I have never seen an ensemble of amazing cast since Persona 4.

    Game-play(school life simulator)
When I'm not in the dungeon killing shadows, taking their money and forcing them to join me unless they want to be dispatched stylishly, I found myself just as engrossed in the game when I'm roaming around the map of Tokyo. This is where the magic happens, where players get to participate and learn about the life of their confidants for some really interesting story telling. Not only that, whatever players decide to do here also affects how well they would do when they return to the dungeon.

    Soundtrack:
Every single moment in the game has an appropriate tune or song played with it. Thus it always feels fresh. It also helps that every song sounds like heavenly orgasm to my ears they're just so catchy!

    Graphics:
The game just oozes with style in high definition. There's not a single menu that looked bland, everything was properly detailed and unique.

My only real problem with the game is that some characters are just... **** I know it's a good thing when a game designed a character to be a jackass and they really come as a jackass but there are some characters whom I wish would just perish in the realm of nothingness. However it would be unfair for the game if I judge them because of that so overall I loved this game a lot. In my honest opinion, this is the most fun video game I played this year.

Persona 5 features a confidant system where you can spend time with friends to increase your bond and unlock skills. It features a romance system and multiple choice responses which range from silly to serious. The persona system consist of capturing persona's through ridiculous dialogue and using them in battle. Persona's have unique abilities and can be fused with one another to create even stronger personas.

Also, Persona 5's story is very serious and uses real world events, such as abuse, rape, drug use, and much more. Making the story meaningful and dramatic. The main character is mostly mute the entire story, but that's no problem as the supporting cast has plenty of lines and they are voiced perfectly. Character design is perfect and the visuals are great as well. One of the best things in this game is it's music. I highly suggest you listen to the sound track.

The only con is the dead lines. You live in the real world and each activity you do passes time, even when it really shouldn't. With that free time you can level up confidants, attributes, or explore mementos (dungeons).

Overall- Persona 5 is a master piece and I highly suggest lovers of RPG's pick it up.

You should know that your own enjoyment will depend on one thing: are you interested in a LOT of story, with fighting mixed in sometimes? You can technically spend a ridiculous amount of time in dungeons, but the focus is on story. Find someone playing it on Twitch, and you'll either like the idea of that kind of game or you won't.

It has a ton of voiced dialogue, and the voice acting is good. The game follows a calendar, so the story progresses day by day. I absolutely love the game, but it's important to realize that its focus is telling a story instead of hours of grinding to advance the story.

Basically the best JRPG of this generation. Puts Final Fantasy 15 to shame. It's worth all your money, just go out and buy this game already, you won't be disappointed.

Furthermore, it has no bug and glitch from its first day of release which many oher game fail to do so and the ending give us the satisfaction feeling if we choose correct conservation. I have played for 126 hours and this game give me a huge impact again this year since resident evil 4, great theft auto 4, crysis, bloodbourne, halo 3 and witcher 3. What could improve this game?...

When you have something great you still want more.
    1. Give the player a full year.
    2. Use a hourly schedule or by the hour instead of days.
    3. Allow players to go over tired if they force themselves downstairs etc when over tired but allow them to do what tasks they wish. (no bed time).
    4. Show what happens when main character goes home.
    5. Allow switching party members from field before battle without having to go to entrance (but still require confidant or having to waste turns in battle.
    6. New game plus add a few extra main dungeons not just X secret.
    7. More variant in battle themes (fixed with paid dlc)

    -Go to highschool
    -Get a girlfriend
    -Go to hawaii
That's just a short list of all the things you can do in Persona 5. Everything else would make this the longest review ever.

The main gameplay of persona 5 is like the previous ones, except this time it adds a stealth mechanic to the mix. The stealth works fine on it's own, but sometimes it can be frustrating, The actual combat is great, and plays out like a standard persona ARRPEEGEE. You find the ability the enemy is weak to, and then make the rest of the fight a cakewalk, for whenever you encounter that enemy again. There's also a lot of good bosses, and great puzzles. Not too hard for newcomers, and not too easy for veterans. The story is actually pretty interesting, and I got into it once I started meeting all of my companions, which may fall into the typical persona companion chart(As I call it). But they get the job done.

There are only two minor problems with this game though. If you play on easy or below, the combat can get boring pretty quickly, because I mean...IT'S EASY, and the tutorial is awful. The tutorial is pretty much the first dungeon in the whole game, and will annoy you. But I recommend being patient and going through it, because once you get your full party, it just teaches you some minor things, an mostly lets you go wild.

I recommend Persona 5 to any fan, or newcomer to the series. It's not as difficult as the previous games, with the inclusion of Safemode(For newcomers), but if you crank it to Normal or Hard, it'll give you a good challenge.

Also you can make the perfect curry, and coffee in this game. It's beautiful

TL;DR - This game is great for anyone who loves RPGs. As a standalone it still delivers as it doesn't require you to play the other games in the series(although I suggest you do) to follow the plot. Any fan of Persona should pick this game up.

The story is phenomenal. The main story follows Joker, the main character who is on probation for about a year, and group of other high school students that discover they have mystical powers and try to reform a society one rotten person at a time. This may seem sort of whimsical but despite that, it is very down to earth. The game deals with very mature topics such as what it means to be a social outcast, abuse of positions of power, being controlled vs being in control, etc. It uses the high school setting and the day by day life of a student to achieve a balance. It is emphasized that you are STILL a student and have to balance real world life and responsibilities and life in dungeons. Student life may sound boring but it's not. Living life day by day in this game is extremely entertaining due to the sheer amount of things you can do, such as hanging out with friends and even just eating out at a diner with your cat(It'll make sense in game, I swear). Remember the One More Turn Syndrome from Civ? I had One More Day syndrome really fast after the first few hours. This game has a lot to say, as it criticizes the society in game that mimics ours in many ways.

The characters are amazing. This game and its predecessors often brushed off by most for being Waifus the Game which I can most assuredly say it doesn't have to be. It can but it doesn't have to be. You don't have to pursue any girl and the game doesn't even punish you for just being their friend. Every character is interesting in their own way. Each of the characters feel like their own person. The characters aren't as plagued by troupes like other Japanese titles, even less so as you get closer to them. As you get closer to a character, they start to open up to you. At this point you get a glimpse of how troubled these character are because their situation which is usually how is usually a product of them being tossed aside by society due to small mistakes, misunderstandings, or being taken advantage of. I found myself relating their ordeals as because I'm a full time student. As their friend, you usually help characters by working through these hardships with the character. This is done by either dealing with it directly through the use of the power you discover early on to root out the source of their woes or indirectly by acting as a guide and an ear that will listen to them when they seek advice. By the end of the game, I saw them as my own group of friends. In this game directly ties the life sim aspect and RPG aspect direct with one of the major themes in the game which is, the bonds we form with others give us strength. In the modern Persona titles this is taken literally. Each Persona, spirits you use to fight, belong to certain categories called Arcana from the Tarot deck, a set of cards used for fortune telling. Each of the friends you can hang out with represent an Arcana. When the bond between you and a friend grow stronger, so does the Personas of the Arcana they represent. In addition to the Arcana bonuses each of your friends has passives that help you in dungeon exploration in some way. This gives an incentive for players who only care about the dungeon to hang out with friends.

The RPG aspect of the game is also great due to the fluid combat, and gorgeous dungeons. If you are looking to get into this game you need to be prepared for the long haul, this game is, on average, 100 hours long. It took me 120 hours to finish but I loved every minute. The combat is fairly simple on the surface. In a standard dungeon encounter, you can use use a normal weapon be it range or melee, use a skill, or use an item. Seems standard but both you and your enemies will have to take advantages of some of the other mechanics to come out on top. Battle mechanics such as exploiting a weakness to deal massive damage and gaining an extra turn, or utilizing buffs, debuffs, and status ailments can give you or the enemy the edge they need to come out on top, especially on higher difficulties. To sum it up, it's simple, but strategic, and yet oh so stylish.

Speaking of style, the presentation of this game is drop dead gorgeous. This game exudes style which is especially evident the art of the interface. The standard menus look amazing as a stylized Joker stylishly moves as you transition between menus. The style also keeps the combat from being dull as these menu transitions along with the constantly changing camera angles help the game feel dynamic and fast paced. The music helps set the mood for every scenes. Everything about this game is fabulous.

All in all, good game 10/10. It's not a hyperbole when I say that this is most likely the best games I have ever had the chance of playing. It's a must play.

The NPC social links, the soundtrack in general, the velvet girls the combat and the level designs are better in P5.
But the pacing, the normal student events, and the enemies are better in P4.
    Overall I give Persona 5 a Tanaka's amazing commodities out of 10

Simply a must to have. It's a great RPG even though the graphics could be even better.
The combat system has been improved and is super, practical and intuitive. The story is interesting and has its share of bouncing. The system of personas has been optimized and it is possible to make new mergers, to put them in cells for bosster, to sacrifice personas or to transform them into object.

Both games present the best each respective series offers and the amount of effort and thought put into them is very much apparent.

The gameplay is absolutely the best the series has to offer so far. They've added a lot to combat to make it a much more enjoyable experience. Of the things they added, I feel like Baton Touch is the game changer. It in essence gives the game a feel a little closer to Press Turn while still being One More. You're able to give other members the ability to take action after a down. It gives attack and healing bonuses too so making good use of it really opens up how you fight. When you combine this with the new elements and spells, there are a lot more things to consider as you play than before. It's not only in combat that gameplay is improved though. The game has two types of dungeons so you have something whether you're a P3 or P4 fan. In addition, the Confidants (Social Links in previous games) provide a ton of benefits outside of just persona fusion bonuses making them all useful to playing the game. They've even polished this aspect out by laying out Confidants in a much more even manner meaning that you'll have things to do both at night and during the day. You won't have to do everything during the day.

I feel like I'm in the minority with my opinion on Persona 5. Most gamers appear to really love this game. I'm not someone who hated it, but as a new comer to the series did not understand the hype.

At best I thought it was an average game with way too much unnecessary dialog and little freedom for the player.

But I'll start with the good points. The graphics are unique and the game is full of style. This does wear off quickly though and it can get tiresome watching the same animation after every battle that lasts longer than the battle its self. But visually there's no denying that at times it looks fantastic. The animated cut-scenes look gorgeous and are very well produced.

The soundtrack is great, although tracks are often repeated there are some very cool and interesting tracks that fit well with what is happening on screen.

The combat system is very well done. It is simple and effective. Battles are exciting and interesting and the use of personas are a really cool feature.

The negatives and the reasons why I stopped playing are as follows.

Firstly it takes a long long time for the game to get going, around 10 hours to get through the training and character introductions and 20 hours before you have beat the first dungeon. It felt like a real slog to get through. The problem was that in that 20 hours very little happens in terms of story or character development. Characters seem to repeat or dwell on the same issues without moving forward, it can become a laborious task reading/listing to the masses of unnecessary dialog.

Gameplay. As I said before, combat works well, but a lot of the time is spent outside the dungeons. These parts of the game have you attending school, doing leisure activities, planning a dungeon raid or progressing story. This sounds cool but it's all very linear, you are often forced to do things you don't want and if you do go exploring and decide to watch a movie or play baseball the day ends, you are forced to sleep, then go back to school, then another bit of story pops up, then you are forced to do something else and by the time you get back to exploring the town 5 hours of real time have passed.

SP (magic) is limited in dungeons, so early on before you learn how to stockpile magic recovery items you run out quickly, when you leave the dungeon to purchase an item to restore SP you often end up again been forced into story and dialog that takes days wasting more hours of your time before you can get back to what you wanted to do originally.

Now I'm aware that one of the game mechanics is time management, so I'm not going to score the game down for it because I'm sure many people enjoy this and it is part of the Persona series, but for me it just isn't fun.

Dungeons are fun and well designed. They are relatively barren and lack fine detail but each one is different and reflects the character they are based on well. I don't like that you can't just grind a dungeon and that it takes hours upon hours of progressing and leaving and then waiting for days in game for the boss to reveal them-self. It all seems a bit slow.

And that's probably my main issue. This game requires patience. It's not like other recent RPGs, it is clearly designed for fans and doesn't make concessions for gamers outside the series.
And that's fine, the game is clearly selling well and loved by many, it's just not my thing.

Persona 5 has clearly been created with love and care. It has high production values an offers 100's of hours gameplay if you can get into it. I appreciate it as a game, but I've given up on it for now. Maybe one day I'll realize its true brilliance but until then I'll keep it on the shelf.

It’s hard to pinpoint why Persona 5 is so good as a lot of factors have a role, first of all and most obvious: the story. If I had to summarize why the narrative is so engaging I would simply say “It’s because it’s a Japanese story”; the game doesn’t shy away of dealing with some heavy stuff: first chapter has a girl attempting suicide over being sexually harassed by her PE teacher, can you ever see something like that flying in an American studio game? H*ll no! The game has a distinct anime humor mixed with some pretty serious stuff from time to time, as a result you never know what’s around the corner and the narrative surprises you every step in the way. The dialogues follow along as they are never boring. There is always a joke, an unexpected moment… there is always something different to keep you going.

The characters really steal the show as their psyche is diverse both in the main roster as well in the side characters that you meet. Each one has a personality, a goal, a behavior that make them unique. You can roughly encounter 2 characters per day to make their story move forward, granted most of the times you’re gonna select the one that benefits you the most gameplay wise but I’m pretty sure players went with their preferred character from time to time.

Now let’s talk about the dungeon RPG sections: the Palaces.

This might be the only turn based combat that I really liked. It all comes down to your Skill Points or SP (like the Magic Points – MP – in every RPG) since the game is VERY STINGY with SP recovery items so it is all about managing this resource, playing in Hard Mode makes for a better experience in this regard. The most reliable way to recover SP is calling it a day, but you have a deadline to finish the Palace so the ideal is to make the most of each day in other words making the most of your SP as they are integral to the fights for using the Personas.

Personas are basically Stands (was that a JoJo reference?). Each character in your party has a Persona and each one of them is specialized in an element; so basically a good character is determined by how good is their Persona. The main character Joker, however, can host a bunch of Personas so feel free to customize your team as you see fit; if you’re feeling underpowered you can fuse them together culminating in even stronger Personas and this is the best thing ever! There are so many and their designs are so awesome and diverse that you’ll be changing your team every time you can

The enemies you fight are called Shadows but they always materialize in, you guessed: Personas. Most of them have an elemental weakness, exploiting it grants you a bonus turn (One More) that can be chained and it also downs the enemy, if all of them are down you can make an All-Out Attack for massive damage or engage in a negotiation to finish the battle earlier and even obtain the said Persona. If you go for the latter you gain less experience points however by finishing the battle earlier you save some SP, so here enters your management.

The Palaces are huge so don’t expect to finish them in an in-game day alone. They have also some puzzle mechanics of sort and here is where the game should be better as I would love to see this enhanced. I’m not saying the game should have like Zelda puzzles or something… actually scratch that! That would’ve been awesome! Why games don’t rip off Zelda?
What I’m trying to say is: make better puzzles and make them more prevalent. Making the Palaces more action oriented would be a dream too - instead of climbing when the X button prompt appears give the players the liberty to do so and figure out things for their selves.

I don’t think I need to say he obvious about the awesome anime graphical style so I’d like to focus on an aspect that’s been dying in modern gaming: the music. Much of the experience is enhanced by it as each Palace has a different incredible theme. A battle theme music with lyrics? Yup, Persona manages to pull it off splendidly! The song of the final fight (Rivers in the Desert) is so amazing I put in my playlist. Still in the audio department: a huge shout-out to the voice actors (I played in English) as this is THE BEST voice acting I’ve seen in a game; particularly for Ann and Ryuji actors.

Persona 5 sure is a slow burner and it’s a different game. I remember hating it my first try ditching it in the first Palace; I returned one year later with another mentality and didn’t want the game to end. So some patience is required until it clicks but is a game worth giving a shot (but buy Persona 5 Royal instead since it adds another chapter and more Personas)

I started Persona pretty late around 2014, first P3 and then P4. P3 is my favorite but P5 comes in at a close second, I'll explain why.

Story - P5 revolves around Akira Kurusu a High School Student placed in some complicated circumstances when he tries to save someone and ends up being sued and given the label of Juvenile Delinquent. Throughout the start of the game he's treated a bit poorly but eventually he discovers the Metaverse meets a Talking Cat, a crazy blonde haired kid, a Japanese foreigner and the biggest **** in the game until the 2nd to final villain near the end of the game. In the metaverse the characters turn into Phantom Thieves and steal the hearts of evil bastards and villians to make them confess their crimes and sins. The story holds your interest from start to finish and does not disappoint unless you've been spoiled, try to avoid being spoiled as much as possible.

Gameplay - Gameplay has improved and returned to the series roots. Guns are back again, negotiations between demons are back again as well as a few things from P3 & P4. Social Links are now Confidants. All the Confidants are worth doing for Gameplay related purposes but not all of them are as entertaining. My favorites are Hifumi Togo, Chihaya, Makoto & Tae.

As for more into combat related talk there are a few spells from P1 & P2 here too. Frei, Psy, Curse & Bless attacks which adds more diversity to spells in the game.

Also I'd like to add that traveling through dungeons and attacking Shadows has become way better. I had a hard time trying to sneak up on a shadow in P4 to the point where I almost quit P4 but I recently went back into it again. In P5 sneaking up on a shadow is childs play, you can hide in corners and hastly move from hiding place to hiding place to sneak up on a shadow and reveal their true forms. Ripping out their masks is always fun to see.

The Palace Dungeons in the Metaverse are not randomly generated and thank god because they are all amazing like this. Every Palace has a distinct and unique look making playing through them less of a chore and more of an enjoyment. The exception is Mementos which is randomly generated, its a side mission dungeon so I'm not too mad about that. Imagine if Tarturus wasn't randomly generated, it'd probably be a way more interesting dungeon to explore.

Soundtrack - Shoji Meguro has been Atlus's secret weapon for years and he continues to impress with the amazing soundtrack of P5. All the Palace Themes are phenomenal except for Sweatshop its not only my least favorite theme but also my least favorite dungeon too. The best song is probably "Rivers In The Desert" beat the game first before you give it a listen or you'll spoil the epicness you'll feel when you first hear it.

Graphics - I'm not a Graphics type of person and also I played P5 on the PS3 not the PS4 because I didn't have one yet ironically I brought it after P5 came out. By PS3 standards since this is originally a PS3 game, it looks amazing.

Characters - Does it beat P3 & P4? I don't really know. The protagonist is badass, Ryuji is okay, Mona is better then Teddie in every way, Ann is alright, Yosuke is cool, Makoto is Waifu material, Futaba is awesome, Haru is amazing & Akechi....... I have no words.

Overall - P5 is the best game of 2017 and yes it is worth all the hype. Now its time to wait for Persona 6, Shin Megami Tensei V & Persona 1 & 2 Remakes.

As you meet new people, you unlock special abilities for the action aspect of the game, something done so masterfully because the characters are interesting and their storylines are extremely rewarding. The palaces, which are the game's dungeons, are for the most part very fun and well built. I've never had any balancing issues and the game was challenging enough to be enjoyable. Everything about the game's visuals is AMAZING! The colors it uses, the character designs, even the UI is a wonder to look at! And the soundtrack is great as usual for Persona games, so much that I hear the tracks while doing many things at home. I definitely recommend this game because it's able to mix a interesting cast of characters with addicting gameplay and it only gets more expansive the more you play. 10/10 Expand

This lays out the core gameplay loop of Persona 5. Half the time it’s a social simulator where you interact with a diverse characters, each of which has a unique and developed personality, along with a major social issue, that you help them fix. Levelling up your “social links” grants abilities and bonuses in the other half of the game: a dungeon-crawling, party-based, turn-based JRPG. This is where the game goes into its own league. Inception into the minds of corrupt teachers, politicians, artists, and even a crime lord; then fight your way to the source of their twisted desires and steal it.
Persona 5 was released in 2017 by Atlus for the PlayStation Consoles. It was highly rated (average of 93/100 by user reviews), and well received by those who’d heard of the franchise before. The game brought in many new fans to the Persona franchise as a whole, including myself. Compared to its predecessors P5 goes above and beyond. It keeps the tried and true character development, along with the party combat format. But it adds so many more mechanics and stylish quirks that it just grows much higher than its predecessors.
The plot of the game follows a nameable protagonist who’s just moved to Tokyo on probation (after being arrested for defending an assault victim against a corrupt politician), and discovers that he can enter the Metaverse, a dimension made of Tokyo’s collective psyche. From here he makes allies and takes down some of Tokyo’s most corrupt or evil individuals.
As to the technical side of things, it holds up on all sides. The graphics are amazing, trumping not only every other Atlus game, both almost every other JRPG to date. Even on PS3, stylistic choices cause it to look good and run well. The mechanics start simple and get complex, but in a way that the player knows what they’re doing and feels rewarded for doing it. Mechanics such as “1 More!” and “All Out Attack!” add stylistic flow to the combat. The game gets progressively harder over the course of the game, allowing for challenging combat, especially on the hard and merciless difficulties.
Overall, I love this game. It performs amazingly, and does everything with so much style. It’s unique, it’s interesting and it’s deep. If you like JRPGs with interesting core mechanics, and more symbolism than an English Literature class, then this is the game for you!

This game is a ridiculously good game, especially for the many anime-fans among ous. It's gameplay, soundtrack, visuals and world-building are over the top.
I'll start with the gameplay, it's a really nice take on a jrpg, it feels amazing to play in two worlds and seeing the influence they have on each other. The battle system is more enjoyable than the typical jrpg system, this is not only because of the many types of attacks you can use, but also because your gameplay just before the battle decides if someone gets a headstart, this makes it important not to drop your guard just because your stats and team synergy are good, if you start with a disadvantage your tactics will quite probably fail to be commenced. Then there's the puzzle-solving, which is probably the least enjoyable part of the gameplay, but it still is decent. Last but not least there is the gameplay outside of dangerous areas, while these parts look futile the first time you sea them, the seemingly useless minigames and backstory have great effects on your stats and you get items with the effects that buyable items have for a prize that sometimes is a bit too high for what it's worth.
Then there is the ost, it's calming when it you're running around in the normal world being a normal person, but once you go to the other world the music will be epic and it represents the area you're in amazingly well.
Another amazing part is visuals, they aren't too high definition, but they are smooth, the attacks look flashy, yet strong. The character and enemy design are both unique and very nice to look at.
Then there is the amazing world, or more accurately two worlds (I know you can actually count all the palaces as different worlds, but they share the same gameplay and storyline), these worlds are amazingly well built, they're built in a way that you, without looking at the influence they have on each other through gameplay, can clearly see that they're very connected, which makes he game feel more in depth.
A last part that I didn't message in the beginning is the various social and psychological topics that are in the amazing story of this game. The creators shared their views on problems inside our society through a game we all love.

I would totally recommend this game to anyone who plays or played even a single turn based rpg or jrpg, and probably to most other people as well. This game is really worth it's money.

I'll start off saying I haven't beaten the game and am likely nowhere near done. So far, Persona 5 has a fun story and really great mechanics.

I'm bored to death of the high school student story trope in anime/JRPGs, but somehow this one just completely sucked me in. Maybe it's because I too hung out in the "back alleys" of my high school with the less popular folks, I don't know.

Anyway, the story is good and dives into interesting commentary while providing a nice, crisp anime aesthetic.

The mechanics shine through the most and is the main reason for my high rating. Some gamers swore that a turn-based RPG just couldn't be engaging in 2017 and yet Persona 5 exists, advancing turn-based mechanics in meaningful ways while all others adhere to fake "action" combat.
Besides that mechanic is the whole social-link aspect, which really makes the game feel like you're living the life of a student by day and a master thief by night, balancing relationships and activities which will help your alter-ego/team in combat.

The characters were well written along with the different romance options. The dungeons were fun and engaging. (except for the second to last one, to much back tracking in that one) The game looked really good and some good humor to it as well. The story does a good job of making want to really get the bad guy at the end of each of the dungeon. The combat has nice variety with some customization, especially if you want to mid-max. Each teammate you get has there own specialty and their own Persona you can customize to some extent, even can customize outfits. Persona 5 is a JRPG masterpiece and it manages to revive turn-based combat in a way that you wouldn't think possible.

Battle System: 9/10. The battle system is turn based which would usually be a turn-off in 2017 but it manages to be unique enough with the addition of guns, knockdown weaknesses, and ambushes that you never feel like you're simply grinding. Graphics/World Design:

Graphics/World Design: 9.5/10: The graphics are good and they fit a very 3D anime design. The main complaint I have is that the anime cutscenes are used very well in the first part of the game and end part but oddly underused in the middle. That being said the world design of the palaces is great. The thieve outfits and color usage is simply perfect. It's simply artistic. Yusuke would approve.

Soundtrack: 9.5/10. Certainly an odd jazzy soundtrack. It took a little getting used to for me but it definitely fits every scene and by the end I craved each song.

Story: 10/10. Absolutely an amazing story. You get tied into each character and each confidant. You want to know the full main story and each subplot. The idea of "stealing villains' hearts" is intriguing and the palaces are an excellent refection of the villains' mental state.

Side Quests/Bonus Material: 9.5/10: The game does a good job of giving bonus mission in Momentos via Mishima so you're never lacking for extra missions. Persona 5 also does a good job at giving you more to do in a second play through which is pretty much necessary if you want everyone's full story.

Misc: 9.5/10. It's a great game and playing through everyday is amazing especially with the fact that the entire game up to a certain point works as a flashback. the only negative is that you need to play it a second time through to get everything from the game which leads to a high hour commitment to gameplay.

Summery: Persona 5 is a great game with an enthralling story. It's style keeps you interested and wanting more. The negatives are few and far between and it ever manages to innovate on a very classic battle system.

    Overall score: 10/10

I will start with the negative point (for me).

    - The game forces you too much to follow the story, that means that you really have time to spend your time improving your character stats or spend enough time with the person you want to increase the link. Time passed too fast, most of the events (even if you start them at daytime) will end in evening and most of the time you will be

I really mis the persona 4 freedom about improve your stats and walk around doing alot of things, improving links...etc.

The positve point is that the story is very interesting, and is quite cool since it is between past and present, so everytime you continue you wander what happened before you get in that moment of the future.

Gameplay is amazing, very interesting and battles have a awesome difficult level, it really makes very strategic the game.

Persona 5 is an addictive JRPG that will prove difficult to even put down the controller.

Persona 5 is an addictive JRPG that will prove difficult to even put down the controller.

The story follows you, a Tokyo High-Schooler that attends Shujin Academy. You have been accepted there due to you having a criminal record, be it false. The story is a key point in the Persona franchise, usually following this formula, you being a Japanese high schooler with supernatural powers (With exception of Persona 2. The cast are actually adults). The narrative follows you and your other friends, who have Personas, and dubbed yourself the Phantom Thieves of Hearts. You go through palaces, otherworldly settings in the metaverse, where you can summon your powers. You 'steal' hearts from rotten adults, and when you steal the heart/treasure in the metaverse, they'll confess their sins in the real world.

The RPG section of the game comes in the palaces, and another randomly generated palace of sorts called momentos. However, you also have to balance your everyday life and stay out of trouble, since you're on probation. Perform well in school, increase confidant levels, or social links, and improve your stats and buy/make tools to use in the metaverse. You can also hang out with friends you develop in the game.

Personas belong to arcana, or a group of shadows (enemies in palaces) and personas that share traits. Persona may be grouped in an arcana due to physical appearance, mythology, personality, and/or stats. Hanging out with confidants improves the power level of persona's you can make in the arcana they pride in. This happens in the infamous velvet room, taking form as a jail now.

In Persona 1 and 2, the Velvet room was just a room, with Igor, the boss of it, residing there. In Persona 3 it became an elevator, and in Persona 4, it was a limousine. The velvet room in Persona 5 is my favorite so far, since the fusion is done grimly yet stylishly.

Speaking of style, this game is bringing all of it. It's beautiful, loud, and in your face (But in a good way). The game has hues of red dancing across it, and shades of white and black accompanying it.

Characters in this game are amazing as well. They fall into some anime tropes, but have unique traits that pull them away from them, making it trouble to decide which story you want to learn first. The settings in this game are really realistic to modern day Tokyo, and immerse you into the metaverse, with an uneasy feel in them.

The story this time focusses on freedom and oppression. I won't say anymore, because I made the summary above a little spoiler-y.

Finally, the music is lovely, and it presents a cooler feel, with a calm, jazzy background. Truly, my only complain is the camera in sneak portions of the game, since it can be really gimmicky, and mess you up. All my game overs so far were due to the camera, delivering some frustration to me.

Persona 5 is a Brilliant JRPG that any one remotely interested in should own.

I got about 40 hours into the game before deciding to trade it in. Honestly, it got boring hours earlier. The game is repetitive after the first 10 hours or so. Dungeons are the same, fights are the same, choices are the same... even the music is the same.

I put RPGs as my favorite genre, and loved Nier, which I finished before this. I've played JRPGs since Phantasy Star on the SEGA

Truly my favourite game of all time. I'm a huge fan of RPG games and I'd never expect that I'd find something better than FFVII or The Witcher 3. And there it is. Persona 5!! I actually cried when game finished, I cried that an awesome adventure came to on end. Beautiful game. I could point out all the good things about P5 but really... Just try it yourself. Dive into an unforgettable experience.

Having played both Persona 3 and 4 beforehand, I can confirm after finally completing this game that this is the best entry in the series. With Persona 4 being one of my favourite video game titles of all time, I really didn't think that Atlus would be able to top it. These were my exact thoughts when starting the game, where having finished the first dungeon I found the story to be rather slow. The beginning of the game (and the entirety of the first Palace that you visit) feels like one big extended tutorial, with too much hand-holding being done for the player in my opinion. The story unfortunately gets off to a rather slow start, but towards the middle of the game it really picks up, and the ending had me going through a variety of different emotions.

Yes, the characters don't really match that of the squad that was assembled in Persona 4 but- having said this- I grew to like most of the characters when I got to the end which I found a tad surprising. Mechanically, this feels like a really refined and polished version of both Persona 3 and 4 (which you would expect), but it manages to add a wealth of useful and fun abilities that you're able to unlock through the provided Confidant Social Links. The ability to switch out characters when travelling around inside dungeons is a very welcome one, with the Baton-Pass ability adding another great layer to the turn-based combat that the series is known for. The only other downside I can really point out here is that of the soundtrack, which for me is arguably the worst in the series with very few memorable numbers which I didn't expect from a Persona game at all.

I feel pretty empty right now from having completed this exceptional title, and I feel that Atlus couldn't have done any more with it which I'm thankful for. Other would be role-playing game titles/series (looking at you Final Fantasy) need to take a look at this series and take note of what it gets oh so right. For me this is arguably the best role-playing game series that is available right now on the market, and I cannot recommend this game enough if you are into the genre.

One of the best games I've ever played! It's super stylish, the story is pretty original and involving, most of the characters are amazing and the gameplay is rich and complex.
Moreover if you love Japanese anime aesthetics this is just beautiful to watch!!

The game is really good, I mean, you have to agree with it if you finish it, it wouldn’t be impossible to play it for 100+ hours if it wasn't.
The problem is, in the end you get to really hate the few problems the game has, what in my opinion, it takes the masterpiece tittle away from it, making it not have THAT perfect and unforgettable feeling, and I kind of hate that right now.

First of all, the game is way too long, it could totally be done with a little more than a half of it, and they would not take any of the actually game of it. For example, do you really need to spend so much time with your confidants? I’m not talking about the good time, but those you go there and you are not gonna get your relationship any deep, so you just spend a day to get a little close to them. Come one, the game is not already long enough? Furthermore, the messages, OMG, I want to kill myself when I get home after talking for hours with the Phantom Thiefs and when you get home THEY REPEAT EVERTHING USING MESSAGES! Come on guys, didn’t we just talk about that? After awhile you just have to skip those messages and I’m pretty sure o missed some good stuff doing that.
What about the ending part? After a million palaces, a million Mementos Floor, then you have one more floor, that looks like a palace, and then one more palace, and then one more floor with 4 mini bosses, to then make able to the final fight, It’s like a 20 hours just in the final act. All that after you thought you had beaten the final boss!!!
Now the mechanics of the game. It was not made for you to max all your confidants in your first play, because it’s impossible to do that unless you either use a guide or you study and think A LOT on how to do that, also, to do that you have to spend only one day in each palace in order to achieve that. The problem is, I don’t think it is fair to rush the palace in one day in order to spend that day with one friend that it is not get any deeper with you in the next time you meet him. It’s just an example of how unbalanced it is.
In conclusion, the game is really good, but damn, they really pissed me off in the end, and I think it took the masterpiece tittle from it.

Persona 5 is an absolutely amazing game that convinces with its art style, music and story. It has anything one could ask for such a game and more. The turn-based battle system offers a wide array of opportunities. While it may not be everyone's cup of tea, it is definitely recommended to give it a go.

Persona 5 beats every other turn-based RPG in terms of production values, combat, story, symbolics, character design, music, pace and variety. 2017 is a great year for gaming and Persona 5 confirms this with a load of unmatched swagger.
