Definitely the best JRPG I have ever played .The game was an enjoyable experience and hopefully Atlus puts the same amount of effort into a Persona 6 .A must buy for PS4 owners and deserved its nomination for GOTY .

Sure the graphics may not be groundbreaking but the style and presentation make up for that tenfold. I have never seen a game with such artistic charisma and charm as Persona 5. I dare say anymore out of fear for spoiling the experience so I will end with this:

This game should be a necessity for all gamers and it is worth a PS4 purchase. If you already have a PS4 and have not played it yet, please for the love of god pick it up, I guarantee it will...

Persona 5 is totally worth playing, but interface and pacing may drive some players insane. The game's good parts have been praised elsewhere, and they are all valid, but personally I find it hard to recommend a game that wastes so much of my time and whose story moves at a Harry Potter-esque glacial pace despite obvious clues. But even tho its gets a lot of praise from me, and deservingly so, the reason why I gave it a 8/10 in stead of a 10/10 is due to two small things.

The cover system is garbage. Its harder to snap out of cover than winning the lottery twice, plus im not the biggest fan of the cover system as a hold.

The palaces can be fun, but sometimes ending up as repetitive.

Plus the characters, although being very good, just lacks that tiny bit of charm and spark that persona 4 golden had. For example Ryuji is annoying due to his rebellious style, Yusuke is incredibly naive when it comes to knowing what to say and when.

But i will end on a high note. Im pretty dure that if Persona 6 gets realeased I can promise you exiting characters , a great battle system, and a interesting story.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Persona 5 is one of the most overrated games I've ever had the displeasure of experiencing. Everyone is ignoring the severe flaws that are in this game.
"It's the best game ever made!"
    "GOTY!"
    Heck no it ain't.
Now, I don't dislike everything about it. Otherwise, I would've given it a 1 or 0. The gameplay improvements, as well as the music are great. Certain arcs are great. However, everything else? Crap.
The story is the EXACT SAME THING as Persona 3 and 4. Go to a new town, supernatural crap happens, new dimension discovered, get party members, repeat 2 times, then pick up the story a bit. After that, reveal this human traitor (Which is always terribly executed, Ikutsuki was killed too fast, Adachi's motives were "I was bored, so I killed people", and Akechi was rushed, and they slapped a sad backstory on him). Oh no! There's this other guy pulling the strings, so we need to kill them! Kill "Epic god boss" (Which is terribly executed in Persona 4 and 5), and then end the game. In which it's the same thing as Persona 4.
As I said, Palace 1, 4, and 6 are great. However, 2 and 3 are just repeats of Palace 1, just with far worse execution. Palace 5's writing is utterly insulting, and condescending. They keep beating you over the head with obvious plot points that have been repeated. The palace is frustrating, and boring. All around garbage. Palace 7 is rushed, and despite the buildup, is highly underwhelming. Shido is a 1-dimensional cartoon villain with very little development. I've already explained Akechi earlier, so I'll leave that. Yaldabaoth's defeat with "You can do it Phantom Thieves!" is unbelievably contrived. I have never been so disappointed with a game's ending.
Confidants still do nothing for the story at all. Character development is the same thing. Get dragged into a palace for whatever the reason, encounter palace boss, get mad, rant about how they're not society's slave anymore, and then boom, awaken Persona. Proceed to get tossed off to the side right after the arc. Oh, and now their character development has been locked to Social Links, just like in Persona 4, which was a terrible decision. Great to see they've improved character development so much in this game. /s
Dialogue options still don't do a thing. How nice. Still haven't fixed that, I see. My god, can't they make this game more like Fallout, where dialogue options actually DO something? When will they finally address these?
Battle system is the same as Persona 4, just with the ability for One Mores to be passed to teammates, and hold ups. I guess that's some improvement. Oh, and I guess it looks prettier.

    In conclusion?

    Pros
    - Great starter arc
    - Palace 4 and 6 were well-done
    - Gameplay improvements
    - Music

    Cons
    - Repetitive in story, and character development
    - Beats you over the head with plot points we've already heard.
    - Contrivances
    - Traitor
    - Has some of the worst villains I've ever seen in a story
    - Character development locked to confidants
    - Confidants don't affect story
    - Dialogue options do nothing
    - Same thing as Persona 3 and 4

Incredibly disappointed by this game. Persona fanboys will hate on me for this. Go ahead. I don't care about this game anymore. On the bright side, someone's giving it away online for free.

I never played a Persona game before. Now, it's one of my top 10 games of all time. Maybe the most unique game as well. I didn't expect it to be 80 hours long either.

The concept is incredible. The presentation is immaculate. The gameplay is flashy and deep. The characters are like friends.

Playing this game was quite an experience. It was mostly positive but it does suffer from some major flaws that hinder the gameplay experience quite significantly. I will start with the good things.

I would say that the best part of this game is the music. The soundtrack in general elevates the game and carries most of the flaws very significantly. With the music comes the overall style of this game. It is very memorable, it will stay in your mind and you will remember what persona V is because of the amount of style, be in in the artstyle, the way the story progresses and the Japan and anime style in general. It is very interesting to see how the game touches subjects like the darkness of human psyche within the context of anime and how it mixes with the innocence of a high school context.

The gameplay is fun, with a good flow and ratio of exploring, character development and combat. Combat gets fun once you understand all the mechanics and once your character develops according to your style and your likes. There quite a lot of side quests and side story to accomplish depending on who you end up liking and what you like doing on the game. Some of the mechanics nicely interconnect. I found myself wanting to increase certain character stats to have access to some character stories or to be able to do a certain action within the world.

The world itself is also quite intriguing. I want to go to Japan and visit all these places just from what I saw while playing this game. The amount of cultural references and art style in general makes it so that you get a clear impression of how uniquely strange and fascinating Japanese Culture is. The fact that personas are representations of symbology from different religions and visions around the world is fascinating. There is quite a lot of research in theology and psychology that goes into this game and it is quite noticeable if you know about these subjects.

The characters are quite likable and in some cases even relatable. I found myself wanting to get to know some of them, not only because of the in game bonuses developing my relationship with them would provide, but also because their story is compelling and complex, and representative of something much bigger. Some of the moments and the dialogue would make me laugh out loud and other moments would make me sad and invested, This is something that the game does extremely well.

Now with what I thought were the negatives from this game. I found that the number one flaw this game suffers from is its length. By the end, this game stretches out for far too long for its own good. Even though the progression is good and you do feel you get stronger and stronger and what happens gets you invested, there are some palaces that feel that were crammed into the game just to get them in there. Some of the villains are not as interesting or well developed as others. I like how the game takes you from fixing smaller problems to massive ones but it definitely takes you too long to get you there. I have had very few gaming experiences in which I wanted the game to end already but it just would not. It gives you the impression that it is gonna end too many times just for it to stretch out for 5 or 10 more hours, and it became quite a hustle to finish.

This actually lowered the score significantly for me, since its length and its unwillingness to just end caused me to actually be annoyed by playing a game I had enjoyed for 80 or more hours and just wanting to finish it to not waste all these hours and actually getting to see the end of what started out as a very good and interesting story. I know games nowadays try to give you a lot of story and gameplay, but sometimes this is just not necessary.

Another major flaw this game suffers from is the lack of freedom at times. I would feel trapped very often with no choice but to just read endless amount of dialogue, especially after finishing a boss fight and a palace. Even though the game is linear and the days system is necessary, there were some times that I could not even do a slightly different thing for half an hour several times during gameplay. I could not even save my game because I HAD to be reading the dialogue and see what happened during the game. I wanted to do something different and I found myself having to play 10 game days before I could do anything different than what the game wanted me to do. This felt annoying at times since sometimes you have to stop playing to do something else and the game just does not give you that option.

Some characters also feel unnecessarily crammed into the game. Some members of the Phantoms thieves felt like they had very little business being there, I found myself not caring for some of the people in the group as much as Ann or Ryuji for example. Same goes with bosses and villains, some were inevitably evil and cool, while others were just not important or relevant enough.

Very good game but not at all perfect.

I gave it a try on the Playstation 3, however it didn't catch my attention as there was many great release around the same time that made me drop the game about 15 or so hours of playtime. First, I will point out the positive. The artistic direction of the game is still one of the best to date. The menu, transition and animation is top notch and makes this PS3 game puts to shame other games released today on lower end hardware like the Switch. It's very generous in content as over 130 hours is needed to finish the first playthrough. While other games went on the easy route to switch the gameplay to active battle, Persona stay true to it's roots and kept it a turn base combat game
Now for the not so good. First of all, while this is very subjective, I hate the music tracks with a passion. Not all of the tracks are hawfull, hoverver, most of them are. Also, I needed to put headphones during most of my playthrough as my wife always complained as she despised the music so much.
My second negative concerns the main hero. During the 140 hours played so far, I could not give a $4!& about him. The almost silent protagonist is faced with choices thruout the adventures, but most of the choice given makes no sense. I could not believe how many time I was frustrated as all choice where not one I would make. That is when the choice are not exactly the same as other decisions are like: 1-Yes 2-Hmm. Yes. 3-Yes, I think. I was missing so much the great dialogue options of other games like the Mass Effect trilogy. Also, one of the most stupid thing is that you will be asked several questions at school and if you ALREADY know the answer, you will RAISE your knowledge, but if you don't, the teacher will tell you the correct answer and your knowledge will not raise.
My third and main problem is that the games drags for way too long as most of the game feels tedious. It's soo long in fact, they didn't even have the cast read the dialogue. I found myselft even fast fowarding dialogues that seems unrelated to the main story as they where boring and poorly written. I would have prefered a shorter(60 hours) fully voice acted main story with optionnal side quest.
Lastly, I don't like the tone of the game, making adults look like they are the villain and depicting japanese culture prone to xenophobism. To me age has nothing to do with how you are as a person, as stupid adult where previously stupid teenagers. I felt awkard playing a game with such ageism. Also the fact that the game is so much ancored in the japanese culture without any taint of any other culture makes me feels out of place.

To wraps it up, this game feels like a waste of my precious time. The story should have been told in 30% of it's time and the flow should have been better. Overall, I feel stupid wasting time on such a game and only wished there was more turn based games to fill in the void made when Final Fantasy decided to kill the franchise when they made the game action based.

The game calls them shadows or some such, I don't know, I had trouble following the story. Also, there's a weird eugenics program for personae. I find the constant weeding out of the weaker, enervating elements from your personae-herrenvolk really tedious.

Second, the story is really well developed and I can say that each character has his own unique story that you will discover in your playthrough. Third, there is a lot of content...I mean...A lot. I played this game for 145 hours ! Persona 5 talks about life, friendships and society. I acknowledge that the story can become emotional (like a movie) but I would say the main audience seems teenagers or 18-25 years old adults. I'm older that that but still really enjoyed this game.

I have some suggestions if you want to really benefit of all this game has to offer. Like the game tells you often, please take your time. This game is not designed to be rushed. Also, don't ignore what Morgana is saying. The cat has interesting advice, both for dungeons and real life. When you start the game, try also to find a general strategy. Which confidents would you like to develop more ? Why ? Which characters will you use in dungeons ? Which skills would create a good synergy in the team ? It can be really interesting to plan before exploring the dungeon. I also recommend to be aware that this game has different endings and in certain points, you will have to make important choices in the dialogue options (I'm a newcomer for the Persona series and I got a bad ending fist which disappointed me. Fortunately, I didn't saved after that so I was able to continue on the same file and just do a different choice. i won't say more here...) And one last thing, accept that you can't see everything in your first playthrough. This game is designed to be played many times.

I certainly recommend this game. I think it's pretty guaranteed that you will find something to enjoy in this game. I look forward to Persona 6 now :)

Persona 5 is an absolutely amazing game that convinces with its art style, music and story. It has anything one could ask for such a game and more. The turn-based battle system offers a wide array of opportunities. While it may not be everyone's cup of tea, it is definitely recommended to give it a go.

Persona 5 beats every other turn-based RPG in terms of production values, combat, story, symbolics, character design, music, pace and variety. 2017 is a great year for gaming and Persona 5 confirms this with a load of unmatched swagger.
