It's a combination of a sim like elements with RPG dungeon crawling that is addicting. Clocking in at over 100 hours, it's an epic adventure that features a fantastic cast of characters that will stick with you long after you've beaten the game. Now, do note: It uses classical turn-based gameplay, but it perfects the formula and adds a bit of Pokémon like elements to the mix. The story is very well written, although it can get too overly dramatic at times, but if you're used to more insane plot-points and Japanese like writting you won't have an issue with this. Visuals are amazing, yes it can't rival AAA games in the technical graphics, but what it lacks in raw-horse power it makes up with an amazing art direction. The music is just heavenly and surprisingly the voice acting as well. My only gripe with the game is that the pacing is off. I would have preferred it not to be at times boring and just have a good balance of normal sim-life and action gameplay. Overall: If you've been looking for a Japanese RPG in the past decade that will consume your life for at least weeks on end - and at the end feel like you've played one of the best in the genre, Persona 5 will not dissapoint. Как по мне это лучшая часть Persona 5 которая вообще выходила. В ней просто всё идеально, да есть минусы для некоторых фанатов P3 и P4 но это не говорит что и они плохие. I was looking for a new title and saw Persona 5 among the top-rated PS4 titles (with GoW, RDR2, Uncharted 4 etc), and my curiosity got the best of me. JRPG's aren't usually my thing at all, which is probably why I felt like maybe I'd missed something, and I went ahead and bought it. Over 120 hrs later I'm nearing the end of the game, and I gotta say this really IS one of the best titlesI was looking for a new title and saw Persona 5 among the top-rated PS4 titles (with GoW, RDR2, Uncharted 4 etc), and my curiosity got the best of me. Over 120 hrs later I'm nearing the end of the game, and I gotta say this really IS one of the best titles for PS4.

Pro's: The art style is incredible. The fusion-esque soundtrack creates a great atmosphere. The story! Oh, the story. You really feel like you're getting to know these people, as if you're actually a member of the Phantom Thieves. This game has me wanting to travel to Sangenjaya (the real-life inspiration for the in-game Yongenjaya) more than GTAV ever made me want to go to LA. I feel like I could walk into a coffee shop in Tokyo and have a brew with one of the character's from the game. It's weird.

More pro's: The turn-based combat is multi-levelled and engrossing, despite me usually shying away from turn-based RPG's. It can be quite fast-paced, which I like (and it looks stunning). In terms of story and writing, it can be quirky, comical, serious, unbelievably dark even - which is what makes it such an artwork in my opinion.

Con's: The beginning of the game feels quite difficult unless you're familiar with the genre, but I got the hang of it after looking for tips online. Without spoiling anything, the end of the game stretches out for a good bit which isn't necessarily a bad thing but after 100+ hours of playing I sort of got fed up with boss fights.

Summary: As an individual, I try to keep an open mind but it should be added that I usually prefer 3rd person adventures/action/horror games and the like. I'm glad I tried Persona 5 though, and now it's become one of my most anticipated series to look forward to (Persona 6 when??). So if you're like me and you're looking for something different, you should definitely check out this game. If you're already into japanese RPG's or anime/manga, then it's a no-brainer. Get this game.

I do not believe any game can truly be perfect enough to attain a 10/10 score, however due to the lack of any scoring system without whole numbers on Metacritic, I feel as though this best represents my thoughts.

My thoughts on Persona 5 are best summed up with one sentence. I truly do believe this is the best game ever created. This is not just for the RPG genre, but for the wider industry.

The most striking aspect of Persona 5 can be found in its artstyle and design. It may seem as a somewhat vain form of praise, but the design is truly outstanding. System menus are a joy to navigate just for seeing their designs. The world and character models may be simple, but are viciously effective in their simplicity. The music is perhaps the best the series has ever been blessed with, Shoji Meguro at his absolute best. Character portraits are appealing to look at. Every aspect of this game's art and design is an absolute joy, it is something you must see to truly understand.

Gameplay feels the strongest that the Persona series has ever experienced. The dungeons in Persona 5 feel far more varied than the TV World or Tartarus in prior games. The only flaw Persona 5 experiences in this regard is in the form of Momentos. This was the one area of the game in which I felt fatigued when exploring, but this mostly due to a desire to return to the game's wonderful story and social aspects.

Speaking of social aspects, Persona 5 replaces the Social Links of old with the new Confidants. Although, this is more of a renaming phenomenon than a real overhaul in terms of design or mechanics. Regardless, social activities in Persona 5 are just as enjoyable as they have been in previous games. I felt genuinely invested in the issues which certain characters were facing, and felt fulfilled when they reached the end of their arcs. There is not a single Confidant which stood out to me as especially boring or uninteresting. Some Confidants involve characters which are not central to the story, which may reduce the investment some people have in those characters. However, I found all the Confidants I explored in both of my playthroughs to be fun, entertaining and engaging.

A natural progression from this point would to talk characters. Persona 3 and especially 4 are well known for their colourful casts, and Persona 5 is no exception. I'd argue that this is the series at its best. Through the use of the previously discussed Confidants, characters feel fleshed out, believable and interesting. The dynamic between the main cast of characters feels so natural it is hard to explain through words. It feels as though this is a real group of friends that could exist in the real world, if they could steal hearts and stuff of course. Good character development comes hand in hand with a fantastic storyline. I do not wish to discuss this in detail here as a result of the upcoming changes in Persona 5 The Royal.

If I could give a more accurate score to Persona 5, it would be 9.8/10. I do not believe it is possible for any game to be perfect. However, I believe Persona 5 is currently the best game you can buy with money right now. This is no exaggeration. I had been a long time Persona fan prior to the release of Persona 5, and to have all of the hype pay off in such a meaningful way was an incredible feeling I have not felt since. I give Persona 5 a 9.8 in the hopes that one day a 9.9 game will best Persona 5. It may not be a Persona or Atlus game that does this, but I believe there is room in the future for an even better game than Persona 5. However, at this time, Persona 5 is my most favourite game of all time.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Persona 5 is amazing but it's also extremely flawed. To start with the good: this game is incredibly stylized. Everything from the dynamic menu screens, your phone, the clinic's and airsoft shop's menu's to combat finishing moves(the all-out attacks, each one amazing, unique and loyal to the character's personality, they are also really pleasant to look at) is an exercise in innovation.
The music is up there with Nier: Automata as the best. Every track is perfectly used and the creates the right mood. "Rivers in the Desert" and "Life will change" are the best tracks but every palace theme is perfect to its palace theme making them even more fun to explore. Some of the best moments in the game include listening to the lyrics to "Life will change" for the first time and "Rivers in the Desert" being used as the battle theme in Shido's fight.
The turn-base combat is actually fun and the "persona system" includes a good amount of personas with great character design most of the time and a good amount of abilities. The social aspect is related to the personas and the combat and that is a great decision since it motivates to get to know these characters' stories and sorting out what you should do and who you want to hang out with is engaging.
The characters are a bit hit or miss. Mostly they are good or great, but they can have really bad scenes: Makoto's stupid decision to go after a mafia boss, Ryuji is always revealing that they are the phantom thieves, Yusuke's introduction (wanting to paint Ann nude), Haru's lack of screen time and importance, almost everything Morgana does or says and Mishima's fixation with the group. While playing the game this tends to not matter anymore since you spend more time with the characters and grow to love each one (Yusuke and Ryuji are the best ones).
The voice acting is just perfect especially Ryuji and the character design for each phantom thief is stylish.
Here comes the not so great parts:
The story overall has lots of problems but does lots of things right...but the copious amount of exposition, bad or repetitive dialogue in some earlier sections, cartoonishly evil moments (Shido's and Akechi's dialogue), the entirety of the Okumura's palace/Morgana's tantrum and the pointless flashbacks are not even close to being decent. With that out of the way we can get to the good part again: the story is really good, a bit simplistic (society, society, society, rotten adults) but the game doesn't have a very serious tone so it's more acceptable. Each palace is fun to explore, contains a good amount of symbolism in its architecture and interesting persona fights, including the final boss... except the Okumura one, that's just **** enemies,"quests" and boring puzzles leading to the worst boss fight (all of this plus Morgana's tantrum just steal Haru's spotlight). All in all Sae and Futaba have the best and second best palaces and "Price" and "Whims of fate" are the best palace themes. Almost every palace is amazing. The last section in mementos is also really great: going through this area full of strong enemies is a great build-up to the Holy Grail reveal that leads to the second best scene in the game (the gang disappearing). Next comes a series of amazing fights against raphael and company leading to the best fight in the game against Yaldabaoth (Akechi's fight is more meaningful and difficult and Sae's is the most aesthetically pleasing with the roulette stuff) that is both difficult and fun due to the seven deadly sins. Then when you loose, all your confidants cheer you on as you literally use the power of friendship and free Arsène's chains to summon Satanael and in the best scene in the game you use your gun and Satanael fires a single bullet that shatters Yaldabaoth's head (great use of both slow motion, silence and sound design), great camera work as the camera comes through Yaldabaoth's head while focusing on the cloudy skies (great use of color with the yellowish/redish skies contrast with Satanael's blueish "awakening"). After that basically comes having to say goodbye to the characters you grow to love and letting your friends drive you home.
Persona 5 is stunning but inconsistent, it has around 80 hours of greatness, 20 hours of just good stuff and 20 hours of mediocrity. With that being said it still is among the best games of its genre and a great game.

The graphics of the game are supremely amazing along with the dialog and the reactions of the characters throughout the storyline. The combat is amazing as a turn base system seeing how a lot of old classics are removing turned base now as well. Don't get me wrong I love having freedom and mobility in combat but there is just something so special with turn based games. Persona 5 took great advantage of the turn based combat as well, no spoilers but truly they did amazing with the way they made things. Having someone with depression forming a castle that turned from needing to hostile att certain points since vet emotions were all over the place. This game offers 100 hours on the story. En conclusión, es uno de los mejores RPG que he jugado y me ha hecho querer jugar a los anteriores y a los que salgan más adelante.

But the story, the game at times feels like it was written by 2 people - one who wanted to tell a edgy but big young adult story about rebellion and the abuse of power and the other wanted to make this a typical rom-com harem anime. It also has some serious problems like who arcs that could have been removed (does anything important happen in the bank section other than getting a new teammate?) and Morgana's palace long temper tantrum near the end.

Overall I think it is the best persona game so far, but not the best game ever.

EDIT: Changed my score from a 8 to 9 now that I'm partway through Royal. Will do a review of that later.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Persona 5 is an amazing game, filled to the brim with unique characters and locations that I'll remember for the rest of my life. The game has unique style, that I'm sure has been done before, but never this well. Almost every single character is enjoyable to be around, each with a unique personality that are easily distinguishable, at least to me. After its 100+ hour story concluded, I wanted more of these characters and was extremely upset to see them go, but it looks like Atlus is continuing with this cast, as Persona 5 Royal and Persona 5 Scramble bring back these iconic characters. The palace structures were very unique, each with its own feel and style, like a spaceship and a castle. The only thing stopping me for giving this game a perfect score is some small things. Some of the confidants were disappointing, and didn't feel like they mattered to the story. Some of the palaces were very lacking as well, especially 2 certain ones I'm sure you've heard plenty about. Parts of the story are kinda bad and bit of a drag to. get through. But it's in no way a bad game, it's actually my favorite game of all time. And did I mention the soundtrack? This game has one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard and would put many other soundtracks to shame. This game single-handily made me a fan of Atlus and JRPGs and made me want to explore different genres of video games. It also help change me as a person, it made me feel confident, feel better about myself, and gave me the guts to do things I would never do if I didn't buy this game. Even though I didn't get through every aspect of this game, i say pick this game up, or get Persona 5 Royal if you can afford it. Just know that this game made me change in the best way possible, and who knows, maybe it'll make you make a change as well. Expand

I love Atlus but they can be hit or miss. This game is a hit for sure, with unmatched style, great music, and super fun gameplay. The only weakness is the story. In Persona 4 the dungeons were all personifications of the character's inner struggles, and the bosses were "shadow" versions of the characters that that didn't just have to defeat, but accept. This game greatly simplifies that formula by having all the bad guys be abusive authority figures and the protagonists being "rebels." There is little actual character growth, which is disappointing. Ryuji has something going on with his dad that is mentioned once. Most style than substance on this one, but still a great game.

The last game also put gender issues front-and-center, whereas this one has the main female character grow by becoming skinnier to be a better model. I'm not joking, that is her character arc. It also has the player pressure her to pose nude for her stalker at his house, and gives you the option of telling her she should have let her teacher rape her. Oh yeah, and it has you blackmail your teacher after finding out that she works as a prostitute to support the family of a dead student. The game doesn't explicitly say that she has sex with you. It's implied. I still loved the game but there are some ugly flies in the ointment that I can't ignore. In some ways the characters are so similar to those from Persona 4 I literally call them by the wrong name. In other ways, it feels like it was written by a different person morally and thematically.

Overall an amazing game that everyone should play, but not as good as Persona 4 if you value story and character/

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game oozes passion and style. Do the actual models and graphics look the best? No, but that's not why people take notice of this game. It's the flair everything is done with. Even the menus feel like they have more love than some AAA games out there (I'm looking at you, EA). The story is very well executed, with the exception of two parts. The lead up to Okumura's palace is forced and uneven. Why do Morgana and Ryuji have a rivalry that came out of Morgana being a complete jerk to Ryuji for no reason? Morgana feeling useless makes sense with the introduction of Futaba, but that combined with Morgana leaving due to the fight with Ryuji feels like it shouldn't be there. The second part where it's revealed that Akechi is the traitor isn't necessarily a bad plot point, but the game seemed to simultaneously be trying to make the twist surprising and unexpected, yet also made it ridiculously obvious. The first 5 hours or so of the game are kinda slow, but they aren't painful, per se. Once you start infiltrating the palaces for real, the game gets amazing. The palaces are fun to explore, with much more verticality and depth than the dungeons of Persona 3 and 4. The puzzles are fun to solve, but aren't very hard unless you never pay attention to what your party members say. The combat is thoughtful, stylish, and has a musical rhythm that will leave you having a slight groove with you the entire time you play. The weakness and one more systems are perfect to keep the action flowing, without slowing to a grinding halt. Battles rarely ever stretch out into tedium, due to once you knock down every enemy, you have 4 options. one is an All out Attack, which does a ton of damage and has a very high chance of ending the fight. You can either ask for an item or money, or you can start a negotiation. Every magic skill in the game comes courtesy of the Persona, a manifestation of your inner self. All of your party members only have one, but you can wield multiple, most of them come from negotiating with enemies, trying to convince them to join your pack of personas. The negotiations are a little easier if you pay attention to their mood listed in the top left of the screen when you knock them all down (also known as a Hold Up), but some of the dialogue options make no sense. These shadows have weird tastes, and the answer isn't always obvious, but it is doable.
Persona is more than dungeon crawling, though. Half of the game is spent as a normal teenager, hanging out with friends, or doing activities to increase one of your five social stats. Your friends are known as confidants, with them having ten levels to unlock, each bringing new perks that will help you in battle. The life simulator part of Persona is just as addictive as dungeon crawling. Sometimes I would find myself attempting to complete the palace in one go, just so I would have more time to hang out with friends or increase social stats.
This game is the kind that will absorb you for hours on end. It's systems are so well put together, The music an absolute masterclass in game soundtracks (I've listened to the OST for countless hours), and the style of everything done makes everyday life feel like an amazing adventure. This is a must play for any RPG fan, and will kind of become a phase in your life, making it hard to think about anything else.

The best turn-based RPG on ps4 and probably of the entire generation. The artistic section is from another planet, the story hooks you and has an unforgettable soundtrack. To put a downside and the only reason not to put a 10/10, the game is not translated into other languages, which does not matter to me, but it is still an inexcusable failure for a game today. A must for fans of the genre.

Sure, no game is for everyone and if you hate teen drama or anime style stuff of course you won’t like this game, but this game gets damn close. With the huge cast you will find someone you relate to or like and a variety of topics such as child abuse to more mild ones like social anxiety.

The mix of being a student and exploring dungeons helping your friends or someone "at the same time" is very interesting and the way the time passes in this game is fantastic. The schedule for this game is one of the best mechanics ever made in a video game. You need to plan and use your time in the best possible way, after all you want to interact with your friends, you have to go to school, you want to explore this world and discover the possible things to interact, you need to study for the tests that are coming come, you want to improve your status, you want to get a girlfriend, besides you can do side quests and explore "Mementos" (the optional 'dungeon' of the game) but the urgency of you needing to optimize your time comes from you always having the pressure of an 'x' date to finish the dungeon you are in, advancing the story or something bad will happen to the characters (usually).

The characters are a highlight of this game. They are very lively, friendly, have their past, their history, their tastes, their hobbies and etc. All the characters that have Social Links are like that, there are 21 in total and within the game they are called confidants. The developers were smart and still encourage you to interact with them giving advantages in the gameplay, free items, improvements to the characters in your party, better items for sale and etc. Social links are another phenomenal mechanism in this game, it develops the characters and their relationship with each one of them. This game has some very strong social criticisms.

The story is not very complex for the most part, but it is engaging and has its high points and they are great. The main reason she is involved is because she involves the characters you know and gives urgency to you to act, not to act until the deadline is game over. You want to continue in the story to get to know the characters better and you end up wanting to help them. All the dialogues in history (ARE MANY) have dubbing and it is great.

The game easily takes 80+ hours to clear and if you get lost a little in this world get ready for 100 hours (without exaggeration).

The gameplay of this game is a dungeon crawler that switches to the classic combat of a jrpg taken to the extreme with some very interesting mechanics to explore, such as mergers between personas. The personas are the main reason for the huge variety in combat, there are 192 different personas, each one is unique and well done. The difficulty is well-balanced and if you just crash until the boss is screwed (I did that once kk). But if you don't like turn combat it's hard to like this game, considering its size.

The graphics of this game are currently a bit outdated (I played in 2019 and I thought it was good), but you get used to it quickly and you have to consider that it is a game made for the Playstation 3. If you are bothered by it, play Persona 5 Royal, a improved version of P5 (at the time I played it didn't exist). The dungeons are very well made and each one is unique with something new in each one. But what stands out is game art, I have never seen anything so good in video games.

This game has one of my favorite soundtracks. They are unique in many ways, enjoyable to hear and striking. They also match the game and location you are at.

A defect was that having relationships with the characters does not affect any dialogue during the story. There should be more events to interact with the characters and they could be more complex, interesting and slightly affect the relationship between you and the character. Another point worth mentioning is that if you don't like to read or understand English, this game is not for you.

Persona 5's presentation is beautiful, the game is super aesthetic and the developers really used its theme to perfection. The gameplay is just as good and even improved the already perfect P4G gameplay. Excellent voice acting and finally the option to play with the Japanese audio. I also loved the soundtrack as much as every other Persona's soundtrack.

The things I did not like about this game were some of the party members not being very memorable or interesting unlike all of the P4G cast and some details about the story. But that isn't really a deal-breaker. This game is one of the finest in the whole series and I'm happy it brought more new members to the community. including people who didn't even like JRPGs before. The player should think carefully because each time the story progresses forward there will be a deadline and you gotta always make sure you use your time efficiently. UI is one of the best i've seen in a game the art style is both colourful and vibrant having a unique and great feel to it.
The story gets a bit convoluted and kind of a mess towards the final act but it makes up for it with an Awesome final boss battle and a killer ass soundtrack.

The best JRPG game. It improves a lot from Persona 4g. I enjoy it very much.

Great mechanics. I only won't rate it higher because, considering the game's grand message, I feel there are some inconsistencies, like: LGBT community is seen as very stereotyped, and women seem to be drawn to men's attention, but you can't expect much for a PS4 game in this area anyway... I love this game for

style; More adult plot than 4 plot; gameplay dynamics; Superior story dungeon design. But there are problems Very few new personas, while there are not some that were in 1-3 parts Haru Skreentime After 3, there isn’t enough more mysticism, plus a slight loss of liveliness of the characters, there is not a single character who wants to empathize like a Ken

Persona 5 has fun turn-based combat with great fundamentals that allow simple but different strategies. There are lots of fun activities that you can do such as fishing, spending time with confidants, going to Mementos, trying to eat a very big burger and answering questions in class or during exam periods. It may be difficult to get into at first and overwhelming, but you should embrace it and live the life of a Japanese high school student by day and Phantom Thief by night.

Jazz is great, and Persona 5's jazz-themed soundtrack is phenomenal, each piece is appropriate to convey the mood of the setting, and most are so groovy and relaxing that you just want to have the game on in the background or tap your foot, bob your head or just straight-up dance in your room.

Persona 5 is oozing with style, the menu itself has more style than most games. The designs and graphics of Shibuya to the various palaces are pure eye-candy. The cut-ins and persona designs too are quirky and aesthetically pleasing. The animated scenes are great but the 3D scenes using in-game models can feel a bit clunky.

The story in the game heavily draws themes from various mythologies and religion such as the seven deadly sins to Buddhism, Christianity and Platonism (especially towards the end of the game), as well as the Persona series' signature Major Arcana from the tarot cards. All of this conglomerates into an epic journey to save society from adults that unjustly use their power to control the masses of all forms, to eventually trying to defeat a God. It is ambitious, enthralling and a grand journey to save the world.

You are given lots of time to learn each of the characters that are represented by a major arcana, that you derive benefits in their confidant in all aspects. Albeit, not all benefits are equal, each character has an interesting and deep story that helps you connect with the humanity in them that is lacking in most modern games. There are substance and flair with each of the characters and you'll either love them all or at least hold most to a considerate degree of reverence.

Persona 5 is the definitive JRPG experience that will bring you immense enjoyment, immerse you in the world and challenge you to think more about the different persona in people, and in yourself.

I was bored and knew Persona 5 was a good game based off of reviews. I’m not a huge anime fan, or JRPG player. I decided to take a chance and Persona 5 because it had a good sale. I just wish I had spent more money and bought Royal instead. Persona 5 blew my expectations out of the water. I was very rarely bored in the game due to amazing characters and their development. Persona 5 was my first persona experience (yeah I'm calling it as an experience) and I f*cking loved it. The game is full of characters and every person you meet has their own identity and character. I enjoy while trying to make and strengthen my bond wit them. With its unique turn-based combat system, battles in Persona 5 never feel boring. An absolute must-play.

It's one of the best JRPGs out there, and even though it falls flat on some points:

    - difficulty is either laughably easy or insanely hard with just damage numbers being super high or super low
    - it mentions important real life issues yet is afraid to actually tackle them, using them as bait
    - dialogue is easily skippable, especially text messages and constant repetition of deadlines and "are we going to be okay" lines

It does everything else that it tries to amazingly well:
    - Gameplay is top notch, fun and satisfying, puts a lot of turn based games to shame
    - Characters are unique and diverse while useful, allowing you to play with your favorites freely
    - Customization of demons and skills is through the roof
    - All palaces are interesting and unique, even the most uninspired ones
    - Almost all social confidants, and the variety of them, will give people something to look forward to after the fighting is over
    - Over 80 hours of content, more if you shoot towards the platinum trophy, reaching around 150
    - The soundtrack is phenomenal (albeit overplayed by content creators), everything from relaxing music, pensive music, fighting music and character themes are executed flawlessly, giving a superb flair of style while also making it feel like a game and not an anime

I could go on, and I'll surely remember other good points about this game. It's a must buy for rpg fans, jrpg fans, and turn-based fans.

Persona 5 beats every other turn-based RPG in terms of production values, combat, story, symbolics, character design, music, pace and variety. 2017 is a great year for gaming and Persona 5 confirms this with a load of unmatched swagger.
