It's a gigantic game, that uses the beloved One Piece license, and can stay almost on top of the musou genre just for that. Emphasis on "just", considering that, gameplay wise, it's the same old repetitive romp, with hundreds of brainless enemies, and only decent boss fights. Basically, it's a must for manga fans, and a good starting point for those few who don't know the One Piece series, but the musou genre really has to change.

The PS4-premiere of the anime pirates plays like classic Tecmo Koei warriors – with all its glory and all the hate you might associate with it.

One Piece Pirate Warriors 3 is a fun game for the fans of the franchise. The fun is mostly found in the story mode, but the extra modes become repetitive very quickly.

However, what it does bring is the best representation of One Piece to a video game, while giving fans the chance to get caught in all of Luffy’s mad adventures in a fun and solid, if uninspiring, Warriors game aimed to depict the madness that comes with taking down hundreds of enemies with unique characters.

In summary, One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 is a great game for fans of the series, and there is a lot of content to keep them busy. On the other hand or... err... fist, newcomers may find it tough to play the game all the way through without becoming bored.

Although familiar, the combat takes on a new feeling thanks to the change in setting. That said, I’m sure those who have played previous One Piece adaptations won’t get that same sensation.

One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 is a classic musou game, with tons of characters, thousands of enemies and a simple combat system. If you like One Piece, this is a good way to recall its story from the very beginning till the Dressrosa arc, with a friend too.

One Piece’s unique style of fighting also translates quite well to musou combat, but fitting in the story bogs down that combat somewhat. Instead of enjoying both fighting and dialogue, it became a weird kind of chore to play through battles just to progress the story.

Just like both games before, One Piece : Pirate Warriors 3 will be loved by a large part of the manga's fanbase, and probably by those who keep buying all the Dynasty Warriors. But for the rest of the players, there's a huge risk of being bored after some hours.

A generic Musou but a great adaptation of Eiichiro Oda's work, Pirate Warriors innovates little in mechanics and has a cumbersome progression, but it compensates a little with massive content and lots of nods to the fans. A regular effort.

Despite the occasional frame-rate drops and the repetitiveness, One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 is a fairly fun game.

The combat is brainlessly entertaining, but this sort of content only occupies someone for so long, and with no other improvements or expansions to the core play, I can't in good conscience praise this game. That said, I did find it interesting enough to want to find out more about the IP, and I strongly suspect those who are already fans will happily climb aboard this particular pirate ship.

I expected a lot more from this title and it definitely disappointed.

If you’re into Dynasty Warriors levels of mass combat and are a huge fan of One Piece then this game is absolutely perfect for you. If you’ve been a fan of this particular series since the beginning, the new additions are nice but the game as a whole may feel too similar.

The repetitive missions grate all too soon and the bloated levelling makes little difference. The random chunks of story lack consistency and will only be understood by hardcore fans of the show, who deserve a better narrative than this. But when played in short bursts or with people online, there's an easy-going yet empowering flow to the action that makes it hard to put down.
