    JOURNEY TO THE CORE

    BEFORE WE START:
No Man's Sky was developed and published by Hello Games and released in 2016. This title was released under completely adverse conditions compared to those presented at various conventions and fairs, and therefore, it was heavily criticized. After dozens of updates, the game became very similar to what was originally announced. The title has been fully released on Game Pass PC.

    THE TAKE OFF:
No Man's Sky, as a pure survival game, instantly throws the player into the clutches of a planet immersed in the infinite universe. This planet can randomly be peaceful or malevolent, making the first steps more or less challenging depending on the type. The initial stages mainly involve learning the basics of survival, as well as constructing a small personal base. After these steps, the player will be unleashed into the universe of the Atlas, a mysterious deity or legend that requires the player to reach the center of the universe. As an interlude, the player can literally explore endless planets, take on dozens of side missions, and build bases on planets or immense frigates.

    STALENESS UNIVERSE:
The gameplay of No Man's Sky is as varied as it is repetitive. In addition to the mere survival aspect of collecting resources, surviving in hostile planets, and fighting sentinels, players can venture into cooperative missions and raids on frigates and outposts. Furthermore, a small part of the game certainly involves space battles, albeit very simple ones. The true heart of the gameplay in this immense title lies in the exploration of thousands of planets, which often differ greatly, and the various space wrecks. A small mechanic that encourages exploration is the bestiary and encyclopedia of creatures and objects on the planets, offering small rewards in currency.

    WHAT COLOR IS THE SPACE?:
Graphically, it is rather average, with a wide variety of designs and coloration of the different worlds. Certainly, the imagination behind some plants and creatures is exceptional.

    SCATTERED ECHOES:
The audio component, like the graphics, is average. However, its great merit lies in creating extremely relaxing and mesmerizing situations, with fitting soundtracks for deep space.

    BUT WHY 7?

    PROS:
No Man's Sky is currently an extremely enjoyable and relaxing title to play and explore. The vastness and creativity of the game world rarely become tiresome, and the game's writing is unique and detailed, keeping the player engaged. Additionally, the main story, being very philosophical, will certainly stimulate the minds of the most imaginative players.

    CONS:
The major problem with No Man's Sky lies in the immense repetitiveness that it reaches within a few days of gameplay. Every space station, NPC, planetary base, frigate, and most dialogues will always and uniformly be the same. Moreover, the game's strong survival aspect often leads to tedious farming sequences for normal gameplay actions. All these factors make it a highly enjoyable game even today, but it certainly doesn't lack some issues dating back to its release.

    RATINGS:
    Gameplay: 6.5
    Music: 7.5
    Story: 7
    Survival: 6

I am running this with a very low FOV also, because the frame rates on the planets can suck. In space the frame rate seems stable and pretty ok.

Story wise everything kind of makes sense in this universe when the revelation bombs hit. Though the story and/or the copy/paste side missions is not what drives my interest in this game.

The Developers give you a lot of cool fun unlock-able stuff to mess about with on land, in underwater and in space. The main personal carrot on the stick is all the researching and chasing after new tech or rare/exotic gear/equipment. All to the backdrop of looking at colorful vibrant worlds while listening to the great in game soundtrack. The game does offer other things like mining, base building, trading, bounty hunting, fleet management, farming, pets and cataloguing.

The game is far from complex or deep. Pretty easy to pick up and put down on normal difficulty and not much of challenge. It does have survival mode which is not even that hard ( perma-death as of yet to be tried ). This a pretty chill laid back gaming experience for sure. Took my mind of the Pandemic BS for sure.

2021 Updates have tanked the frame rates. PC and Console gamer hey developers no excuse not to put graphical and effects slider bars/toggles in the console versions. Which consoles games tend to run worse anyway, because they don't have beefier or upgradable tech. WTF is this 20-25 FPS crap?

Game comes with in built VR. The pixelation is alll pretty bad and the planets in space didn't look very VR. The VR cockpit was pretty cool, but not as amazing as Infinite War cockpit. After trying several different VR games the motion sickness has finally gone. Still with all that plastic and rubber on the head? Head overheat happens pretty quicky. Yeah even when using a massive floor fan to try and counter it. Maybe I need to use PS/VR in the winter or something?

All multiplayer games started feeling like complete rip offs for the amount of monetization of literally every element of the game (literally every customization is being monetized by live service and multiplayer gaming companies), so I decided to go back into single player games for a bit, to take a break from all the drama and nonsense. I decided to comeback to No Man’s Sky years after giving up on the game around launch. What a journey this game went through. From being complete garbage at launch, to a great experience now. The sheer amount of content that was added to the game completely free of charge is mindboggling to me. They added great base building mechanics, a compelling story line, managing your own fleet of freighters, customizing and building inside your freighters, derelict freighters to explore, community zones, etc. I can honestly say this game has much creative depth to it as a game like Minecraft. I love the turnaround this game has, and it really is a testament to how a good game and live service is meant to function. Hats off to you Hello Games, you did not succumb to corporate greed and irresponsibility. Expand

No Man's Sky is a Comeback story, once was a lagging, broken, letdown of a game, is now a fun space odyssey unique to you. I find my self coming back to this game and I'm looking forward for future updates. My one complaint is that it crashes, and lags more often then you would like to see, though it is not a experience killing problem.

There's a story, but it's pretty subpar to be honest and there isn't a whole lot special about the graphics. I wish there was a bit more diversity in the planets, as there's really only a few different biomes and any two planets of the same biome pretty much look identical. Still, there's lots of fun to be had and I would recommend this game to anyone looking for a space exploration type game. Expand

The various game mechanics are average at best and there are numerous time wasting gameplay (refining, piloting, excavating). I get the intent of giving a sens of grandeur to the entire world, but once you choose a destination and just travel for minutes, there kind of isn't any point to making it that long.

Anyway, even though the intent of the game is nice, I wouldn't recommend it, the implementation end up providing a somewhat dull experience.

When you finally find and fix your ship, you think, “Okay, that was annoying but it should get better now.” Oh, you sweet naive fool. No, no it does not.
I made the mistake of pissing of a little sentinel. Jump in my ship and try to run. Nope, sending fighters after me, and you can’t outrun them. Got one, almost a second but the third took me out. That’s actually fine. No problem there. The problem is when they spawn you and you get in to your ship and try to get to the objective… even if you are holding down boost until your finger starts to hurt, the time to destination actually slows down and starts going up. That’s right, your grave and the objective point are both moving away from you. On the planet…. As you are going top speed towards them. Needless to say I never got there. Like an idiot I held on for 8 minutes with the timer not going down and never getting to the place I died. Immediately shut the game down and uninstalled. I know I’m late to the game in playing and reviewing this thing, but in the off chance you are thinking about buying this thing? And you happen upon my review? Please, spare yourself the aggravation and irritation this game give you…. And go get a root canal. That’ll be way more enjoyable.

Welcome to the Interstellar Sandbox! With 18 *FREE* major content updates, the latest being incredible all by its wee self, this game delivers. And delivers and delivers. In fact, it has changed and improved so much since it's release, that any reviews written before 2019 are totally and completely misrepresenting what this game is today. When I first bought it, I played for roughly 5 hours and after one massively disappointing experience, I put the game away, for what I thought would be forever. However, mid 2021 I started reading that NMS had changed drastically. Without reading further in to it, I decided to give it another look.
That look turned into approximately 500 hours of playtime and platinum trophies on both PS4 and PS5. I couldn't believe how much content had been packed in this game. So much so, that there were times I'd just zone out while playing, trying to comprehend how this game was capable of doing what it was doing, and how it was possible. Base Building - A million. (Thanks to an orbital construction camera for easier piece placement and a large selection of parts to build with) Questing - Repetitive in a lot of aspects, but it's almost a secondary function of the game after a point. For what this game is and then became and for how much I got out of this game, I'm rating it at %100. Take that with a grain of salt if you like, but if you like space exploration and sandboxing, you're gonna freaking love this game. Cheers!

In 2016, I, like many, pre-ordered and played No Man's Sky at launch and we were all let down by what we had, but in 2022 with all these free updates (I think that should be known since most of the AAA games and these cherished companies don't even do that), this might be the greatest gaming comeback in history. You can:

Own alien pets, play with your friends online, customize your character, be the leader of your own settlement and make tough decisions, defend that settlement from sentinels and space pirates who want to take your resources, build your own bases anywhere, drive vehicles on land and submarines underwater, go into scary abandoned freighters and fight hostile aliens, own your own freighter and frigates, own multiple ships, guns, and multitools (aka guns and mining tools), discover multiple planet biomes, plant alien like plants that can earn you a lot of units (The main currency of the game), take part in missions, embark on some interesting text story missions, have your own AI squadron to journey with you and fight rebel space pirates, etc.

They have delivered and more with these updates to bring us what they initially promised us at launch and I say it is time to appreciate companies like them for their hard work and how they didn't give up and owned up to their mistakes. It shows that how you act when you make a mistake is way more important than the mistake itself, because people will remember that more.I give this a 9/10 for what No Man's Sky is NOW, not for what it was in 2016 and I think many should try to move on from those times after more than 5 years have gone by. Cheers to you Murray and Hello Games, and God Bless you for your redemption and hard work.

To be able to explore worlds and find things that others may have never even found encapsulates a feeling no other game can. The amount of love I have for exploration in this game is unmatched. I want people to understand something just because you don't like something does not make it a bad game it just means you don't like it.. this has all the definition it needs to be considered one of the greatest games ever to come out. also fun fact this game is the reason why Sony hasn't had any early access games for years and Sean Murray tried to weasel and say that Sony was responsible for not giving him enough funding. VP of Sony of America denied this and called it false.

I can say now that the game is finally worth the price of admission. I am currently playing the game on PS5 mainly through PSVR and it’s a surreal experience. Flying into a planet while burning through the atmosphere and then seeing the strange beauty of the planet through vr is spectacular. The best of this game is the environment, sound and soundtrack. The place where you can see the things you are carrying reminds me the old free rpg games I use to play as a kid in my computer. Don't hesitate on destroying things because you'll see that you can't carry much things (destroy cheap things or things that you are not going to use or that are easy to find). The story is told as the old RPGs; I mean is more description about what's going on than dialogues. You could say this is a kind of an old rpg game but with good graphics (and a bit of action). I know I could beat the game but because is going to be more of the same with few new things I'm going to stop playing. It's not a bad game per se but in my opinion it should be shorter (and also let you carry more things when you start). If you play this game, you're going to need a few hours to settle and get used to everything. I myself thought on quitting more than once but I recommend you to play at least about 10 hours and from that point if you want to keep playing go on but that's up to you. Definitely not a game for everybody but if you want to try something new give it a try.

P.S: Also, go straight for the main story and don't do side quests unless you feel to.

And sadly I am still dissapointet. You can clearly see it got a lot better but for me the whole idea still doesn't work. Unlimited planets to explore sounds amazing in theorie but in reality this is only a game for people who really love the survival-colleting recources-upgrade&build things aspect. There is no exciting gameplay nothing happens on these planets. If you explore your landing zone you literally saw the whole planet there are no mysterious caves, forrests or other things you can explore. The animals and plants still look very repetitive. There is nothing happening on these planets only thing you can do is collecting recources thats the only purpose of them. I think this is very dissapointing because what's the point of a whole universe to explore when everything is so boring it isn't worth exploring. Like I said for me the idea sounds great and they did their best but in reality it doesn't work. It would be a much nicer game if there are only 100 planets to explore but every planet has the magic of a world like the worlds in Gof of War do. Sorry if my review is wrong and there are beautiful and exciting planets out there, but I never saw one sadly. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's far from perfect that's for sure, but some of the more recent reviews are either made written by gamers who haven't played more than a few hours (shakes beer) or gamers like Ianmack who clearly is lying, because in 100 hours of gameplay, I have never not found an animal. He probably didn't read that it is only found in the north or south emisphere...

What I miss and hope they will implement sooner or later are cities. What I think is really annoying is that sometimes the game gives you the option to scan a planet from space and right when you activate the scanner the option fades and you have to wait for the scanner to recharge. Another thing I would love to see, are snowy paradise planets. All planets with snow have automatically a harsh environment. What stands out in this game is the community. Never experienced such a helpful gaming community. The game is definitely worth it in 2021 and I am pretty sure that it will be updated a lot in the future, adding many more features.

Update: Game is complete now. Worth the price, also its often is 50% off on Steam. Very fun as a solo player, I never got into multiplayer but its there. Very fun and relaxing game, get lost in the universe.

This game has the potential to be a great game, closing in on a 10/10. But this game was released too early in development, it's missing features that were presented by the dev, it's completely missing the most advertised and expected gameplay features. Yet, the game was still released, at full price $60. This is half of a game. It's an unfinished alpha preview. It should not be on store shelves for sale. It should be on Steam as an early preview for $15 or $20.

Now, I believe this game will get there, I believe updates will be released, features added, and this will evolve into the game I expected and was promised/advertised.

My review has to be on the game I have, not the game I want or look forward to. With that said this game gets a 5/10. It's average. Interesting and at times beautiful. Exploring new planets, building new technologies to visit more distant and varied star systems is exciting. But after a while the game becomes completely repetitive and lackluster. Without a solid story, without a worthy goal, without multiplayer, without any RPG game elements, there is really no motivation to continue playing once you've upgraded you stuff to the max.

My advice is to wait on buying this game, but keep your eye on it. When the features are added it needs to be a great game then buy it. For now, hold off.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. No Man’s Sky has been one of my favourite games to play on the ps4 since it’s release on August 9th, 2016. However like many others I was disappointed with how the game was first released as the gameplay wasn’t quite as advertised, but in my opinion it didn’t make it a bad game as No Man’s Sky still had plenty of new and innovative aspects of gameplay mechanics which made it the unique game it is. As-well the developers of the game showed they had their fans in mind when updating the game, as many of the updates massively overhauled the game visually, aswell as with gameplay mechanics by adding in multiplayer, and adding more story content(in which the storyline for the game is easy to follow and keeps the player immersed in the world that is No Man’s Sky). If you weren’t like me and gave the game a chance or were hesitant of buying the game from the reviews then I think you should give the game a chance in 2020 as since it’s release in 2016 it is almost like a brand new game. Space exploration, base building, alien creatures, what could go wrong? Procedural generation, that's what. The designers could have crafted 5-15 beautiful and interesting planets with varied biomes. But instead we've got an infinite number of randomly generated planets, most of which inevitably wind up boring and empty.

So prepare to spend hours and hours and hours searching for a pleasant planet for your home base, only to find that once you've found one and started started building, you're in a constant struggle with your inventory size, the game's confusing mechanics, and refueling everything you own or use. Can't find a particular material on your planet? You'll have to fly off of yours, but oh wait no launch fuel. Oh wait no hyperdrive fuel. Oh wait can't find a planet with the material. Oh wait your mining beam is out of fuel. Oh wait you're out of storage space. It all feels much more tedious than in other survival games.

And once you've built your base, a couple cool vehicles, you realize - there's nothing of interest to actually be explored and there isn't much story to speak of. There are barely any threats to your health and safety, and the variations among different kinds of flora and fauna basically amount to: wow, a vaguely cow-shaped thing with longer legs than the last cow thing.

That's my 10-hr story with No Man's Sky. I tried. I really did. And I wanted to like it. Some people do find this infinite randomly generated space exploration thing interesting. But for everyone else, go play Subnautica, The Forest, Conan, Ark or The Outer Worlds, Mass Effect, Astroneer - really any other survival or space game instead.

I've been playing this game since day one. At that point I probably would have given it about a seven, it was still pretty wonderful and didn't deserve all of the hate that it got. But over the years they have added on so many features and basically everything that was promised and so much more. I absolutely love this game

Gioco esplorativo e contemplativo. Soffre di moltissimi bug e generalmente né la trama né i combattimenti riesco a risultare minimamente interessanti. Almeno l'esplorazione dei pianeti con un amico o in solitudine risulta molto appagante ed immersiva.

No Man's Sky is one of those games you'll love or hate, I've given a generous score here because it seemed like when I started playing at 6 pm, 5 minutes later looking at the clock, it was 10 pm. The drawbacks of this game when I played was it felt lonely and some times the graphics would appear shaky. Other than that it's a game they are continuously improving and I will not be trading in or selling my copy as it just might continue that way! Expand

when I first bought no man's sky I was so hyped for the game I look awesome and all of that but when I played it I got disappointing cause I wasn't what I expected although with the updates is better still doesn't look like the game I imagine..

After many updates and patches finally is a really good game. There is still a lack of diversity on the planets, too many times animals are the same and the plants also. We need more variety and types of planets.

I have played this game from the beginning, and wow has it changed. The additional vr support is extremely emersive, and makes for a great time. Thanks for keeping up with the title Sean Murray.

Very similar case to Elite (which I still take as a scam and thus a clear 0/10). I understand what might have been the purpose, yet the actual game.. Well it's not a game. It is an interesting and maybe promising concept alas absolutely out of the reach of a present technology. Such project requires enormous computing capabilities to deliver a truly playable and enjoyable experience. In vast future filled with quantum computers NMS may be given as an example of what our generation had wanted to create but was limited by very ancient technology (simple Turing machine principle). Therefore one simply cannot appreciate NMS as a computer game. I also dont agree presenting this "technological concept" to a broad public as a game. And there is absolutely no excuse for that in creating a "very sophisticated algorithm" for a full price. If an engineer wishes to create and design complex algorithms his place is either at a uni or private company willing to pay him for such activities. But to cover his programming ambitions for high complex algorithms with a creating and selling a computer game it's an inexcusable deception and should not be tolerated. Awarding this weird 'procedural generation algorithm' project 1/10 is therefore a completely and utterly deserved in my opinion.

It's very fun, the story is cool and the gameplay is good. But when I'm in a shuttle, the camera sometimes glitches down

Panorami spaziali fantastici. Personalmente credo sia stata una grande idea, un gioco dalle potenzialità incredibili ma scarno ed abbandonato a se stesso, certamente una buona base per un titolo futuro, comunque unico nel suo genere

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. While I appreciate that they have vastly improved the game over the last 3 years, it is only now approaching what was promised at launch. The game's base concepts are just not good enough to hold my attention or make me feel like I would rather be playing this than something else, which is a shame. The worst part of all of this is that they feel that they are still sensible in charging $59.99 for this, which is absolutely obscene.

My advice is that if you want some good fun with randomly generated stuff (including space) then go pick up Spore for a third of the price (or cheaper if you can find it on sale). Also, I have about 35-40 hours but I originally bought the game when it launched from the GOG store.

I had to correct my rating from 2 to 8. The developers have really put themselves into it and made a good game out of this catastrophe from the beginning.
Many futures that were missing at launch are now in the game and the needs of the players have been addressed. The game is now really a space exploration game with Survieval elements. Good jop hello Games.

Still has not apologized even once for lying and misleading all his fans due to pressures to get an influx of cash. It doesn't matter how much you go back and fix retroactively until you acknowledge misleading everyone.

While I’m sure developer Hello Games is still tweaking things and perhaps even creating more content for No Man’s Sky, the current state of affairs is a strong one. This galactic opus still offers an infinite amount of content for those who want to lose themselves among the stars, but now also contains a concrete throughline that will satisfy a wider array of players. It can be irritating at times, but it’s also full of stunning moments and the satisfaction of building a virtual life among the stars. Four years after launch, it’s finally a journey worth taking.

The world of No Man's Sky is insanely vast and beautiful, but there’s nothing to do in it! There’s no goal, no destination, no ending, nothing!

While No Man's Sky is engrossing for the first few hours, repetition starts to set in and the proceedings grow dull. The developers stated that they plan to add significant features such as base building which could dramatically change the game for the better. There's a promising foundation present, so it's possible to envision a more substantial game down the line. As it currently stands, though, our excitement to cross the universe faded sooner than we expected.
