Amazing game. Just got Platinum after 110 hrs. of play. Very well-balanced. Story was good, but a little confusing with all the characters, names, clans, etc. Story got more interesting about halfway through, but still fairly tame.

The real shining aspect is the gameplay. Gameplay is superb. The weapons and variety are just right. The game is just FUN to play. I didn't find it that hard, but that's because I just played the first Nioh a couple months ago, so kinda knew what to do. Overall, they've definitely improved already great gameplay/fighting experience from the first Nioh.

The reason I didn't give it a 10/10 is simply because it felt like Nioh 1.5 (or 1.75?) instead of a 2.0 brand new installment. They need to be a bit more brave on Nioh 3 and really try some new things. A lot of reused characters/enemies/locations/UI/story flow in this one.M any locations followed the same pattern... always a locked gate right by the first shrine...or ladder kicking down... that sort of thing. Locations need more uniqueness and variety. Take another lesson from From Software, Koei. :-) FromSoft levels are amazing. That said, all the upgrades and additions were well thought out and a big improvement. I just wish they pushed to be a little more unique and change up UI, locations, Story flow... but overall, it's a really fun experience.

This game is HUGE. There is so much content, so much to do. As for the game itself, there is a short learning curve but the mechanic becomes second-nature and as hugely satisfying as anything in the Dark Souls universe. Plus the boss fights are truly fair — challenging but not petty and infuriating. I am loving this game.

Nioh 2 is an excellent game for those who like challenging games that feel rewarding. Not for the average gamer, but for those who get satisfaction from playing at the edge of impossible and winning. Similar enough to Dark Souls but different enough from Dark Souls to get give you a familiar but fresh experience on this genre.

First of, I have yet to finish the game. However I am on map 5 so to say.
This is a game that easily would have been 10/10 if it was balanced.
It looks great, it sounds great, it runs great, it plays great, the game controlls great. Yet it is draged down by poor balancing, and no I am not talking about how normal enemies early on can 1-shot you, I am fine with that. What I am talking

Yet it is draged down by poor balancing, and no I am not talking about how normal enemies early on can 1-shot you, I am fine with that.
What I am talking about is the bosses. 1st boss is difficult but beatable, so that is fine. 2nd boss is way, way, way to difficult to the point where you have to be a) really damn good b) grind until you cry c) be lucky. After the 2nd boss every single boss is easy until you end up in area 5 where you have yet another a b or c boss.
There is however a way for them to fix it, and that is called balancing the damn bosses. Make some easier, make some more difficult, if done right this is a 10/10 game for many people. Done wrong, or left as is, this game will be a 1/10 and even 0/10 for far to many, and rightfully so since there are no need to beat people over the head with their difficulty as early in the game as they do.

What makes a good souls-like game good is that it feels difficult but fair throughout the entire game. Where Nioh 2 therefor fail is that it has moments where it feels unfair instead of difficult.

This is a solid Souls-like game. Hell, I prefer it to actual dark souls and Sekiro. It's much more accessible and easier to get into, however... One thing Sekiro mastered was limiting backtracking to the boss room. This game does not have that and it's the worst thing ever. I'll have to run pass all the enemies and I get hit, so I have to run back to the shrine because I'm definitely gonna need all my health pick ups and it's just really, really annoying. If this seems like something that would really ruin your experience, then don't get this game, otherwise, this is a fantastic souls like worth playing. Expand

If you enjoyed playing Nioh and the DLCs, this is a must. It is still challenging even if difficulty is downgraded (would suggest to avoid if you have not played sekiro/soulsborn or other masocore games and do not have time). Few of the things i did not like:
-camera issues (you will probably die a few times because you cannot see anything when you are cornered)
-accidents (you will die because you accidentally fell off a cliff or in a river or a chimp jumped out of nowhere)
-set bonuses (special sets of armors, especially the ones I found interesting, are either hard to gather or heavy, causing you to lose flexibility)
-too much information (if you have not played Nioh before, then get ready to spend quite a few time trying to understand the various mechanics/combat systems/process useless armor etc)

It is a game that requires you to think and develop strategies to finish the missions, which is very interesting.

what a freaking amazing game! Team Ninja really did their homework with the Japanese mythology and the designs for the Yokai demons. the game play is the best one I´ve played with in a "souls" game. The music is phenomenal and the story and very emotional. i have dedicated more than 165 hours to the game, have the platinum trophy and will continue to play it! Can´t wait for the Dlc. I should preface this by saying I've loved all the Souls games, Bloodborne and enjoyed Nioh.

What makes Nioh 2 not as good as a Souls game, to me at least, is just how unfair some of the bosses seem to me. For numerous bosses, especially towards the end I found myself spending hours and hours, expending almost all of the elixir's and sacred rice that I'd built up just trying to beat a boss. Of the last 6 or so I think four of them must have taken me at least 3 or 4 hours each of dying. Something about the boss mechanics doesn't fair to me.

If I played through it again I'd make sure to cash in more souls earlier to make sure I leveled up quicker, but that's a lesson learnt.

So overall a great game that I'd recommend, but not as good as Dark Souls 3, Bloodborne or Sekiro.

It's a solid Soulsbourne game with looter aspects that could keep you playing. It allows for many different builds, but none of them feel like they are overpowered. I like to feel rewarded by power for spending hours and hours in an RPG. I just don't get that feeling here. But its still a good RPG.

The second Nioh is more than just a continuation of the legacy. The authors have been able to learn from the mistakes of the first game, and thanks to that this is an excellent action RPG that will not let you rest and you will want to keep playing. [Issue#303]

I love a great third-person actioner, and I’m hard-pressed to think of one that nails the formula as perfectly as Nioh 2 does. The systems are pleasantly crunchy and there are a ton to dig into, the moment-to-moment fights get my blood pumping, and the artwork and theming are all spot-on. Too much of a good thing is too much of a good thing, but Nioh 2 is exactly the right amount.

Nioh 2 does what a good sequel should. It capitalizes on the best parts of its predecessors while providing new content and mechanics to advance the franchise. While the story structure and level design are largely the same, added weapons, more build depth, and new combat mechanics all enhance what the game has to offer. It doesn't always hit the mark perfectly, but it's a solid addition to the series. And let's face it, being a samurai is awesome.
