    Remember that feeling when playing Demon/Dark Souls for the first time? When you realise that a master of his craft is at work here and you cannot help but carry on and see this through? Buy this game.

    First of all, this is not a game for everyone. This game is more like a graphic novel whereas the plot is carefully layered and told in an indirect way. You won't get to enjoy it unless you beat the game multiple times and get the true ending. If you are looking for just another action rpg where you just slash and mash your way to the end then this game is not for you.

    The gameplay is refreshing and comes in different forms - normal hack and slash, 2d scroller, top view shooter, Macross type shooter, etc. My first playthrough was in Normal mode, which is relatively easy for non action type players to get through, If you want more challenges, you should definitely play in hard mode.

    Similar to the original Nier, this game has one of the best soundtracks in gaming. I even dare say it beats the original Nier. I would even go AFK and stay in a zone just to enjoy the beautiful music when I want to take a break.

    Overall this game delivers, both as a Yoko Taro game, as well as a JRPG.    … Expand

    NieR:Automata is one of those games thats really difficult to describe how amazing it is without spoiling anything. If your not familiar with Yoko Taro's type of storytelling, it's of those games that's way much more complex than it looks,
    But unlike Taro´s past games, this one is made by platinum games, master of the action hack n' slash genre, ands it's truly a match made in heaven,    NieR:Automata is one of those games thats really difficult to describe how amazing it is without spoiling anything.     But unlike Taro´s past games, this one is made by platinum games, master of the action hack n' slash genre, ands it's truly a match made in heaven, combining a weird and amazing with fast action gameplay, running at 50-60 fps on a regular ps4.
    Its has imense replayability, with second playtrough revealing new story twists and sidequests.
    And last but no least, the godly soundtrack thats a trademark of Taro's games that complements the beauty of this game.

    A game that surpassed my expectations and helped me recover from my shatter expectations of Horizon Zero Dawn. Nier: Automata has a great Story, great characters, philosophical themes, game play variety, and is the best RPG to come out this year so far.

    Absolutely everything is amazing about this game and it is well worth the price. The sound track is unbelievably good and every single track has multiple versions that the game flows between to fit the area or timing of events happening. The combat is fluid and fun as well. The story is some of the best writing I've seen in years, and after getting the platinum trophy for the game I amAbsolutely everything is amazing about this game and it is well worth the price.     Every once in a while a video game comes out which strikes a chord inside of me. The story, characters, gameplay and music are so amazing and beautiful that the fantastic experience stays with me for years to come. It reminds me why I love to play video games in the first place. Nier:Automata is one such game.

    Featuring a complex and intriguing story and smooth mix of hack n slash and bullet hell gameplay and one of the greatest video game soundtracks ever, if all that sounds good you will love this game. Just make sure to see it through to the end.

    Nier Automata is a masterpiece on it's own way. From the characters design, unique stages, the in game combat mechanics and not to mention the amazing sound track the game has to offer. For a hack and slash game i would never have thought that the strongest point in the game is the story plot it self. This is by far one the best game platinum games had ever made.

    Aside from Taro's extremely well crafted and atypical NARRATIVE , which everyone already expected from this title, this game just never gets dull. It brings elements from many games we have learned to love througout the gaming industry's history and blends them all together to deliver an unique and never predictable experience.     The SOUNDTRACK is just as astonishing, it succeeds in setting a great atmosphere while fitting perfectly on the story theme. There's one great specific soundtrack feature that I will not spoil, but you'll come accross it on your 2nd playthrough and it's jaw-dropping.

    The VISUALS are beautiful, even though the game never pushes too hard on graphics department with super real textures, which is actually good once loading screens also tend to be quick. Elements placed along ambients are well distributed and the lighting does create beautiful moments to just stare and rotate the camera (the CAMERA, by the way, delivers amazing angles that you don't see in every game). The main character models and animations are beautiful, side characters do not have as much detail but can also look great. To make a long story short: amazing art direction without being pushy on graphics.

    PERFORMANCE does fall off at certain areas/points in the game, but it never really gets in the way.

    CONTROLS are highly responsive and 100% customizable. Just moving feels great in this game. Combat is, well, Platinum at it's best.

    Reviewers who gave this game a low score either did not continue after 1st playthrough (roughly 20% of the game) or are just confusing personal opinion with a reviewer's duty.

    This game is a masterpiece. One of the best experiences in gaming I've ever had in gaming. Great characters that do nothing but grow on you as they develop individually as well as with each other, a strong relationship between the protags, an award worthy soundtrack, and great writing all round. Even if the story isn't for you, pick it up for the smooth and satisfying nameplate alone. 10/10

And goddam 2B and A2 are the most beautiful chicks I had in a game for a long time ;) I consider this game along my top three PS4 games (1. Bloodborne, 2. Witcher III, 3. Nier Automata). Probably it's in my top 10 games of all times (and I play for 27 years).

    Brilliant and unique game. If you like a deep and meaningful story which makes you think about it after you finished the game, this game is perfect. Easy one of the best games ive ever played.

    When this was announced, I was beyond excited and hyped myself up way too much, knowing I'd probably be let down in some way. Cut to me staying up till the sun rose the day after I got my copy delivered to me. Very good.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I would have given this game a 10 even if the gameplay wasn't great, because I enjoy all of Yoko Taro's stories. The gameplay is pretty satisfying for most of the game however, and slightly underwhelming when playing as 9S. However the soundtrack, the songs, and the plot are great. It would be a bit better I think if they left some major plot points less ambiguous, but I guess that's Yoko Taro for you.
    The bad thing is the ending section with the credits needs to be easier offline. I am pretty good at bullet hell games, but for the ps4 controller it was hard for me to navigate the last scene. I had to go onto multiplayer.    … Expand

    This game is unique, something different. Myself i compared it to undertale as it triggered similiar emotions. For me it's GOTY. For the Glory of Mankind!

    Put into bucket slasher, rpg, bullethell, sidescroller and a beautiful story which is the main point of this game!

    One final advice - See it to the very end, you won't regret it!

After playing through normal I can honestly say that 1 hit mode is for the extremely patient.     More a work of an art than a game. Nier Automata is a truly brilliant masterpiece that refuses to restrict itself to one thing. It is an action game, but it is also a bullethell shootem up. It can be very weird and goofy, but also very profound and deep. It will make smile and it will make you cry. My biggest criticism towards this game would be the difficulty , which can be very easy onMore a work of an art than a game. Nier Automata is a truly brilliant masterpiece that refuses to restrict itself to one thing. It is an action game, but it is also a bullethell shootem up.     MASTERPIECE:
    - It's a perfect combo of genres.
    - GREAT music
    - one of the best stories/complicated stories/with a message
    Yoko Taro blew my mind. He knows what I want and I hope he will have more budget for his next project, so I can die in peace.

    The fast paced combat is developed by Platinum Games, the king of hack and slash. The gameplay is very action based, but it does have RPG elements. There is a deep customization for chips that players can carry to combat.    If we rate our games based on perfection, none will get 10/10. There is no such thing as a perfect game. However, what NieR: Automata offers you is a 10/10 experience.

There is a deep customization for chips that players can carry to combat. 2B moves are thrilling and satisfying to look at, while 9S offers very interesting combat style that may not capture all players. The mix of game genre from the original NieR make it's way back fantastically. Overall, the combat is satisfying and smooth, but for replayability, one can only wish for a deeper, purchasable combo system.
    While gameplay is not perfect, the game delivers its story and its characters better than any game recently, which is a driving force of the game that should be reckon with. Yoko Taro's characters and narrative is something to be respected and, in some cases, feared. NieR: Automata's version of Earth fits it's story perfectly. It's memorable cast of expressive and lovable characters is something to be appreciated. The story is tragic and deep with a(or many) message(s) for more mature audiences.
    Of course, last but not least, it is a crime not to praise the amazing soundtrack written by Keichi Okabe.
    In conclusion, NieR: Automata is a gem for gaming this year that absolutely no mature gamers should miss.    … Expand

    I would like to bring the attention to the game's clever use of game mechanics as narrative through out the entire game.
    A particular example would be the opening top down shooter segment, where firing of your weapons is initially restricted, even after one of your teammate has been shot down, because engagement has not be authorized. As it is the tutorial, of course, you were not allowed to do many things because it was a way to show you different buttons one at a time, but the game does not waste that opportunity to give you a sense of the military rigidity the characters must conform to, even in the face of danger and death.
    The robotic reaction and adherence to the rule sets the tone for this game even within the first 30 secs of game play.
    Obviously, there are much more to this game to deserve my rating of 10, but the intricacy and attention to details is what stood out to me the most.    … Expand

    Just finished Rout A with 25 hours of gameplay, i cant remove this game from my mind, hes perfect in manny ways, still theres routs B,C,D,E to go, Nier Automata is trully a epic master piece!!!

    Best game played in years, the true ending is impressive and full of creativity. Character, soundtrack, game play, the emotions in this game will make me smile in years to to come. It is a truly masterpiece and one that deserve to be called art.

    The story of Nier: Automata is one such example, this game is beautiful both visually and musically. ‎Keiichi Okabe and Keigo Hoashi have delivered a wondrous soundtrack that fuels the imaginative side of my brain and keeps me coming back for more. Nier: Automata tells a story with such emotion that it cannot be so easily conveyed through writing, you cannot describe the journey of 9S, 2B and A2 to your fiends and expect to garner the same reaction you would have had playing it. The game is just like that, you need to play it to truly understand.

    This game is special, from the moment I first watched its trailer I knew it would be and so I bought a PS4 specifically for this game. The game play is fluid and fun with depth to explore as no 2 encounter need be alike, each character posses their own depth and style that you need to find out for yourself.

    So I advise you to give this game a chance, sit down and enjoy the ride, I finished the game in around 45 hours playing through and trying to do everything, and I still didn't accomplish that so I expect it to take me longer to achieve that, and this doesn't include a second run on a harder difficulty to see how deeply this story really connected.    … Expand

Everything about it is practically perfect from the plot, the ambience, the music, the animation, the fighting, the RPG elements. It has almost perfect balance. Also, it is a wonderfully intelligent and thoughtful game that could actually make you laugh or even cry.     Story: Simply beautiful in many ways, if you go through all the majors endings it will just blow your mind and will keep getting surprised by all the details and clever things happening. No spoilers, no clues, just go for it. So many emotions inside a game who the main protagonist is not even human...

    Characters: It was a doubt for me as we talking about androids/machines and some specifics design choices but I can easily says it’s one of the game's strongest points. They feel more believable and interesting than most humans in others games. I really enjoyed the antagonists as well.

    Graphics: It works very well in the atmosphere of the game, stunning at times. I liked (loved for some) all locations in this game. 60fps all the time for those who care. Beautiful cutscenes.

    Gameplay: A bit like the first NieR, the gameplay will switch smoothly from a shooter, small games to ARPG. It works really well, the fights are furious and explosive with a strong customization for your character. The open-world has a more limited scope which works well and avoid you the famous “fed-ex” subquests. The subquests are actually very intriguing, entertaining and sometime disturbing and they all work very well to serve the game’s universe. The way the game is made just creates a very strong replayability but you might still want to play it when you fully done.

    Music: This is the strongest part of the game in my point. The soundtrack is stunning beyond words… One of the best ever. There is a very clever sound design in the game that will let you enjoy it even better.

    Conclusion: This is one of the best games I ever played and it is currently the best game available on PS4 in my opinion. It offers so much in so many ways and will absorb you in its universe like nothing else. NieR:Automata is a gem and will offer you a truly unique experience unlike many others as it is a NEXT-GEN game not by its graphics but everything else.     One of the worst games I've ever played. Everything here is bad..history, gameplay, empty map and mostly graphics. I do not understand all the absurd notes, it's certainly an overrated game

    This is a pretty good game. 3 hours in and I'm sort of confused (note the confused tone in this review) but this is a pretty good game. Damn good, actually. Very confusing, but damn good.

    It has some of the best music I've ever heard in a game.

    NieR: Automata is, probably the best game I've ever played so far. I have not played the first NieR (and I regret it now the most) but I can guarantee this game is a masterpiece in every possible way.

    Spoiler free.

    The story is incredible good and deep, even more if you care to read lores and data (Dark Souls style). Everything is well written and even there are small holes in the main story, the characters and their growth are there to compensate it in the perfect way. To add more depth, when you finish the game (route C) you can understand some small hints given at very specific points of the game that seemed irrelevant, and you start to realise how well developed the story is.
    Endings of every route are incredible. Specially the True Ending. One of the best moments I've lived in my gaming life.

    Side quests, even though they were a pain sometimes and very repetitive, helped me to understand and valorate more the doomed world the Earth was. In addition, they put more value in the main characters as you could see how 2B, 9S or A2 reacted to some of them.

    The design of both the characters and the world is just beautiful. Altough the game does not have the best graphics ever (not that it needed), they have so much quality and it's a fact the developers put much effort in it.

    Gameplay is fantastic. It's fluid, fast, deep, easy to learn and hard to master. And the best about this is how Platinum Games implemented it with the story. I'm having flashbacks from the last part of the game when they start to switch between characters and how well done it is.

    OST is... the mOST (jk) beautiful soundtrack I've ever seen (and listened) in ages. I thought it was not possible to see an OST better than the BloodBorne Old Hunters, guess I was mistaken. There are tracks for every single situation, and they are perfect for every single moment. Voice actors are superb, I've played the game with japanese voices and they are so freakin' good!.

    3 days later I am still overwhelmed by the sadness after beating this game [A-E]. Story is Yoko Taro standard and the music worth the price alone. Masterpiece. GOTY.

The story had an ending that was an ending and I wanted more afterwards, but Yoko Taro can do that every time. This is the GOTY for me for sure because of all the things it did right.
    The story is amazing and emotional.
    The soundtrack is the best I've ever heard, better, even, than the original Nier.
    The combat by Platinum Games is solid and (minor spoilers)
    When you play as 9S the mini game of hacking is interesting.
    There is more good but there were a couple of things that I didn't like as well.
    The hacking gets a little repetitive by the end but that is forgivable.
    Some lore of the story is in side quests. That is not a problem for me but for people who do not 100% the game it may be. Overall this is one of the easiest 10/10s I've given.    … Expand

    Welcome to the world of Nier, depressing, altruistic, monochromatic and most of all engrossing.

    I was unfamiliar to Yoko Taro's Drakenguard series as well as Nier, but after playing this game I was enticed by the story. The writer made a fair point regarding a connected universe separated by vast amounts of time which allows new players to join into the story without knowledge of the previous games.

    The color palette used in the game fits in thematically with a post-humanity earth, with Yoko Taro's distaste for humanity bleeding through the cracks, placing you in a proxy war against alien machines as an Automaton with human emotions in order to regain footing for humanity on Earth.

    The alien machines have begun to display strange patterns and begin to mimic humanity and places you, the player, in the eyes of 3 different Automata with different ideals, and the ever changing prerogative of the machines made by humans evolves with the different playthroughs.

    The sound is captivating, a second to none soundtrack with sound queues that warn you in combat of incoming enemy attacks in order for you to execute that perfect dodge to continue your robopocalypse.

    The combat was refreshing, as you are placed in different perspectives at times, and the combat flows really well from 3D to 2D, showing the technical expertise of the programmers. A different and fresh approach to the hack and slash genre.

    Overall the game is a must own title on the Playstation 4, and PC.    … Expand

I pay full price for games very seldom, but I did pay full price for this and it was absolutely worth it. If anything I have said or will say seems confusing, it's because I'm intentionally being vague to avoid spoilers. This game is very complex and unique.

    On a surface level, each type of gameplay the game offers is a bit basic, but handles incredibly well. The mechanic of switching between types of gameplay keeps things interesting, but it isn't very challenging. There are different difficulties, but to me hard does not equate to challenging. Hard would mean I take more damage or enemies are tougher, etc., which the game has, but isn't fun. Challenging would mean that the gameplay holds depth and requires you to develop skill or carefully think. I have only once ran into any bug while playing, and unfortunately my game crashed from it. The graphics are beautiful and I haven't noticed any significant frame rate drops.

    However, despite these complaints, the game really shines if you are academically educated. I'm only in college and I'm sure a great deal of references go above my head, but the deep commentary of the references I catch have multiplied my enjoyment of the game tenfold. Specifically, I would say that the more you know of literary and philosophical references, the more you will enjoy this game.    … Expand

    Every once in awhile a game comes along that has the potential to either significantly change you or gaming as an industry, or both. Nier: Automata is both.

    Even more interesting is the brilliance of this game revealed in the contrast of the burdened by politics and poor development games like Mass Effect Andromeda. In that contrast, Nier shines even more brightly. I'd give it an 11 if I could.

    This is a FANTASTIC game, a amazing story, amazing game play, phenomenal music, there isn't very much like it, besides other Yoko Taro games, also, don't finish the game after getting an ending, there are 26 endings, tho 5 of them are the main endings, 1 of them is a secret ending that fans of the original NieR will get, and the rest are just joke endings. This is my GOTY! :3

    This game is simply amazing with amazing soundtracks, well done characters, amazing story and the fast pace fighting style. At first the story is great but in the third part playing through the game, there were the story pick up and get even better with unexpected plot holes. As for me this game will be one of my favorite game of all time.

    Obra maestra, had a blast incredible plot, delightful fighting mechanics, cool weapon leveling, really interesting chip customization to enhance your abilities, amazing OST, nice graphics. In my book this is the game of the decade and most definitely GOTY -at least for me-, 50 hours played, all save data gone, a must play.

    I bought this game without knowing anything about it except the trailers combat.
    I expected action and a nervous game. I got that, but I got way more with it : the best and most beautiful story I ever saw in a video game, with a wonderful ost using both to play with your feelings.
    You will need to buy it to really understand why this game is a masterpiece.

It has the prequel stories of NieR:Gestalt and Replicant tied into it in ways that make sense, great art, amazing music, all the elements of an action game that made Devil May Cry and Bayonetta great, and some RPG elements in the form of leveling up and leveling your weapons. But that's the charm of N:A for me, and probably because of my age and my life experience till today. I can absorb and understand about the message that was hidden behind the stage play of this game. The combat system is nice and difficulty level easily adjustable with chips, and far from boring buttons smasher like Dynasty series. Really really satisfied with it :)… Expand

    Toute cette richesse scénaristique apporté par les jeux PS1, PS2 n'existent quasiment plus maintenant et il est rare de trouver un jeu actuel qui rivalise ne serait-ce qu'un peu avec les chefs d'oeuvre que nous avons connu auparavant

    Et au passage, la DA est somptueuse, l'OST est incroyable (probablement une des meilleures OST de jeu vidéo que j'ai écouté de ma vie), le gameplay est fluide, prenant, diversifié, nerveux, parfait ! La durée de vie est plus qu'acceptable, les quêtes annexe ne sont pas toutes Fedex, la plupart approfondissent certains éléments du scénario

After all that??".

    After finishing the game for the first time it is only about is not even 1/4 of the game and it's story and content it gives you. The game truly start to shine after the 3rd play though. This is what makes the game great because it never really gets bored with all the new stories and contents that gives you. Additionally the music is simply beautiful not just 1 or 2 track that was great. it was very single one of them I had so many moments I had to take some moments to just listen the tracks. Finally I want to talk about the narrative of the game and the story. I do not want to mention any spoilers however philosophy behind is vey strong, as you progress the the game(more and more endings) it start to make you wonder if what you are doing is really right? Well this game gets a 10 in all those catergories but what makes this game great is how it connects to you on an emotional level.     On the side note people who complain about autosave clearly is hardcore noob kid and not even cleared the prologue because they are just so effin bad, git gud son. back then on SNES there is no autosave feature. if this is hard then i doubt you can play Bloodborne/Darksouls    One of the best games in a while.     First play through and ending A is only 40% of the game. Replay for rest of the game and story. All replay will have different main story so it's not boring like other game replays. Main endings are A, B, C, D, and E.

    Incredible game. Would recommend for anyone. Had never heard of the game and didn't even really like the look but I guarantee it's worth your money - it's the most intriguing, beautiful game and Yoko Taro is an incredible writer. I could go for days about how much i love it but you've got to give it a go for yourself.

    The first play through (route A) doesn't do it justice. Please continue through routes B and C, they create an entirely new appreciation for the brilliants of the game in its gameplay and narrative.

Love the series for the lore and history which is quite hilarious considering that you need to dig through the internets to get the glimpse on what the heck is going on through the game.     Been a fan since the original Nier. Didn't have high hope for its sequel in terms of game play mechanism but it really surpasses my expectation. The plot and BGM are a 10/10.

    Highly recommended!

    Best story for recent years, It contains lots of philosophical ideas which truly make players think very deeply. You can feel those aren't robots, but humans and lives. If you skip this game, them probably, you may gonna lose a world with full of treasure.

    I play a lot of hack and slash and JRPGs. This game mixes the best of both worlds for gameplay. However, what really shines for Nier: Automata is the soundtrack and storytelling. I haven't fallen in love with a game since almost two decades ago (i.e. FF6 and Chrono Trigger) and this game rekindled that passion.

    This game is great in gameplay, with an emotioanl story and with fast pacce combat syle. People who play this game is important to know that you must not stop in the second round since that just a prologue to the story, the real story start in the third round of the game ehere it gets better from there in term of storywise.

I have been a fan of JRPGs since i played one of the Tales series from bamco, but never i have encountered a game that's both cool and emotional. This game perfectly express each and every moment during your gameplay, from the curiosity of entering a amusement park in a post apocalypse timeline to the last moments of your life leading to an inevitable death. IMO this is one of PlatinumGames' strenghts, since Metal Gear Rising they have hit the mark in the soundtrack, you can feel every moment as if you're living on it. In terms of storytelling, Yoko Taro may have created his greatest work in my honest opinion, the plot was perfect, the different perspective is perfect, the slight but great freedom of choice is amazing, even if its just for the joke endings still. NieR: Automata is no doubt my GOTY, Game of the Generation even. Out of the all reviewed games in metacritic, i think this game deserves to be on top of the list, this game is just to perfect to this imperfect world.… Expand

Some may say the Combat was repetitive and in a way it is but only if you limit yourself to the same weapon types. Some also say that the game lacks originality and doesn't imply new mechanics, I mean if it ain't broke why fix it, sure they may not have implemented new mechanics but they sure as hell did a good job the chip system was also great though not explained very well (Chips with a diamond means its the lowest possible Cost it can be, keep that in mind, Don't use the Offensive heal Chips as it makes the game too easy just my preference) but the further you play the more you'll understand. Difficulty wise i think playing on Normal mode is too easy and playing on Hard is probably the best way to play.

    Story 10/10 Story really reels you in the more you play it making more complex along the way. Completing side quests also adds to the lore of the overall game though its not necessary its a good way to fill some plot holes from the main story

    Gameplay 9/10 Sidequests are a chore and repetitive are what some negative reviews say and in a way they are, BUT and a big but like i said earlier sidequests add to the lore and if you're interested in the lore like i was it becomes less tedious and more exciting as you unravel the stories behind some of the sidequests. Combat wise its a normal hack and slash game that makes it interesting with the combination of weapons for new combos, the bullethell parts which i loved and the 2d, 3d, Top view parts are absolutely fantastic.

    Graphics 10/10 graphics were phenomenal and really captured the post apocalyptic feel of the game destroyed buildings, reclaimed areas, broken cars all the little details really add up to the total scenery of the game.

    Characters 9/10 I absolutely love the protagonists of the game and were in a way even emotionally invested in them some scenes gave me goosebumps some made me shed a tear some made blow air out of my nose more than usual, but in all seriousness the character development and relationships and interactions between characters really gives the game a lot of points from me. Though the only thing keeping me from giving it that one is the enemies its not as diverse as i'd like it to be they all look somewhat the same though some have different weapons its always better to have a wider variety of looks for regular mobs. All bosses were awesome though.

    Sorry if this was a bad review, this was my first one and i actually made a metacritic account just to make this review. I was that in love with the game that i just had to give it my personal opinions. I don't know if everyone will like it but YOU! yes YOU the one reading this you should cast all doubt aside and buy this. In all honesty i didn't expect a lot from this game was just interested from a post i saw somewhere that you can play a goth Loli with bad ass swrods, i though why not and bought the game thinking its just gonna be some generic Hack and slasher game, but in the end i just shot past my most favorite games of all time up there with the witcher 3 and Last of Us. You will not regret buying this game. You never know you might be looking at the game that will be at your Top list like mine :D    … Expand

The action and depth of play is relatively unparalleled in games of it's type. I could not be more pleased with the experience the game has brought me. I have purchased the DLC merchandise and hope to see more games from this creator. maybe even a sequel of sorts.

    Play this game. You are doing yourself a huge disservice if you pass it up as you will be missing a truly unique and moving experience. Couple of caveats though if playing on PC. Use a gamepad. If you don't have one, buy one. Also, download the FAR mod program that fixes a number of issues. The PC port wasn't handled well, but get a pad and the mod and it's all good.    … Expand

    This game is a masterpiece. While the combat and exploration were fun, the story is brilliant and incredibly deep and I'll likely be picking the game up for a second full playthrough. The level design and music is incredible as well. Highly recommended.

The machines are now in ownership of Earth and it's the androids' job to retake their creators' land
    I gotta admit, I wasn't instantly hooked. The first playthrough goes by pretty quickly and is badass, playing the action-oriented character and all. However, in the second playthrough, you play as the data collecting one of the duo and uncover all the mysteries of the first playthrough, realizing how geniously written both of them are. Don't even get me started on the third one and all of its canon endings. Point is, this is the best video game story I have ever experienced.

    The gameplay? The gameplay is insanely fun. You can slice, stab and punch through enemies with a number of weapons while at the same time shooting barrage beams, missiles, and a laser, making insane combos each and every second of combat. The mobility is also amazing, with dodging dashing and jumping fluently, making it a joy to move around the map. Also, there are 3 kinds of bullet hell gameplay, each one of them being really fun.

    The OST is amazing, with both beautiful and badass tracks, the level of emotion given to the game by the music is giant. I listen to the whole, almost 7 hour OST on a weekly basis, that's how fantastic it is.

    The graphics are very good. The little framerate drops can be removed by simply disconnecting from the internet. The way it handles is graphics is very admirable, hardly ever dropping frames. The game just looks beautiful, no matter if you're in the vast desert, deep forest, ruins of a city from the human days or the digital world while hacking machines.

    There's also tons of side activities, collectibles, and optional endings. While some of them were a pain to 100% (fishing alone took me around 20 hours total), I still had a blast 100%-ing the game and getting all the parody endings, it's really worth it.

    In conclusion, everyone who can appreciate a genius story, dynamic gameplay and amazing music and atmosphere should play this. Game of the decade for me.    … Expand

The combat is very fluid, both the hack-'n-slash and the shooting parts are awesome and each character plays differently than the others (2B uses the triangle button to do strong attacks and combos, while 9S uses it to hack into the enemy and make you play a shoot 'em up section to destroy the enemy from the inside.     NieR Automata: Beyond Gods Edition was a total shock to me with how much I enjoyed it. It takes a very solid experience for me to enjoy an RPG lately and NieR grabbed me quite well from the beginning and kept me entertained throughout. It's the type of game where I want to do everything that I possibly can just to make the experience longer - a type of game I rarely find nowadays. I went into NieR Autamata with no expectations other than the good gameplay that I usually find from Platinum Games, I went away floored with a near perfect action game.
