Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 is an average but reasonable send-off to the franchise.

While engaging modes shake things up when it all gets a bit shallow, think twice if you're looking for a fighter with depth. [Apr 2016, p.89]

The simplistic nature of the combat system means that fights, though enjoyable, can become quite repetitive.

While engaging modes shake things up when it all gets a bit shallow, think twice if you’re looking for a fighter with depth. But as a series send-off for obsessives? It’s a knockout. [May 2016, p75]

While there’s plenty more that a true fan would get out of this experience, as a bystander, there’s not much of a draw here for me.

A licensed game that feels as nicely made as this one is a rarity indeed, and any fan of Naruto, even the casual ones who don’t wear ninja headbands while shopping for groceries, would do well to give this a look.

Funny rework of the original proves that even the fighting games can tell a good story. Game fans will be thrilled by almost everything – from the combat system accessibility to the flawless sounds and visuals. Hardcore players might be a little upset with a simpler combat system, but Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 will reward them with tons of game modes, and nearly endless list of available fighters.

A reworked yet subtle combat system, visuals that'll make you think that you've fallen under a Genjutsu spell and a story that has finally reached its climax. This final chapter is purely for the fans.

It makes for a better fighter than J-Stars Victory VS.

Between the gorgeous graphics, solid combat, and multiple game modes this impressive fighter isn’t necessarily just for anime fans.

Wait for this one to show up in a bargain bin because the few things added into the series at this point do nothing to make up for its shortcomings.

The final chapter in the Naruto saga is an underwhelming experience where long and bland storyboards tell the story before you are finally allowed to participate in some downright spectacular battles.

Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm's strong combat is countered hard by poor AI and connection problems.

I like the intensity of the combat, the visual design in the game and its faithfullness to Narutos story and universe, but it doesn’t hold my interest for more than an hour at a time.

Game looks gorgeous. Admittedly I ought it looked exactly the same as the last gen from all the footage. Had seen. But when finally playing itGame looks gorgeous. Admittedly I ought it looked exactly the same as the last gen from all the footage. Had seen. But when finally playing it on my own HD tv, I can honestly say that the graphical improvement is minimal, yet noticeable.

The trademark boss battles return in story mode, which brilliantly retells and captures the climax story of the fourth great ninja war. This is great because for anime fans who have had enough of filler, this game is a must play.

Also with regards to combat this time around, types are now gone. Which means no more having to choose awakening, drive or ultimate type before a match, you have access to a characters entire repertoire. The disgraceful counter system that was in storm revolution has also been adjusted, now in only knocks away your opponent instead of stunning them. The new leader switching is great fun and adds new dynamics to gameplay and of course the number of new secret techniques and combination secret techniques are just incredible. They are visual spectacles of beauty.

There's so much more to talk about, but what I've just mentioned is what I feel is most important. Online play is pretty much the same as it's always been, so I won't really go into that, few changes here and there but nothing huge. This is a must buy for all Naruto fans.

I have to say, this is a fantastic new take on the Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm series. The game looks, feels, and plays perfectly pristine. Beautiful.

A solid fighting game with a humongous character roster, artful story mode and plenty of unlockables make Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate NinjaA solid fighting game with a humongous character roster, artful story mode and plenty of unlockables make Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 one of the best anime adapted games to date. Graphically, the game has not improved much since it's many past incarnations on previous generation hardware, but the over-the-top action and drama sequences in the relatively short story campaign are quite stunningly portrayed. The frame-rate remains steady this time around, even with six interchangeable fighters using insane special moves and attacks on-screen at one time, so there is no slowdown during player combat, unlike the previous titles in this series. In addition, there are several survival, challenge and tournament modes, all of which are fun and rewarding. The addition of an after-story RPG mode adds to the overall length of the game, though it is nowhere as impressive as the main campaign mode. This game is definitely a shining example of what anime licensed titles should strive for. Full Review »
