Enemies scale at ridiculous rates. I punched someone for 99 seconds straight and couldn't KO them in time. There's a pointless level up system involved in their mission mode and nothing outside of it contributes to levels.
The AI spends so much running away and hopping around half the battle is spent chasing them around. It's not that fun.
The opponent can summon their assists at any time, even during your combos. This coupled with ridiculous AI scaling at later levels means you can get one shot while comboing the enemy AI...which is pretty stupid and a waste of time.
The wall changes are annoying more than anything. You can get stuck in a wall instantly and fail to wall someone after 3 combos. The gravity changes at different amounts of time which can screw up your combos, jumps, movements, etc and cause the enemy to just murder you. You can't fly away either so hopefully you land somewhere afterwards.
When comboing someone off the stage to try to ring out them, you can ring out yourself in the process. Since every character has 5-6 air jumps and flight powers for some reason, you can spend a long time air battling. The camera zooms in and you won't know if you're out of bounds when you fall back to the stage. You can only get back by jumping since dash only goes at the opponent. If you start jumping back to the stage... you still won't know if you're in bounds. Good luck
The game is good if you like the series and play through the story for the comic sequences or just want to watch supers done by the heroes and villains but that's about it. Don't expect an actual fighting game out of this.

That is about it for the good points however. The controls are awkward and are missing many of the staples for fighting games. Blocking is largely ineffective, throws are awkward and all the special moves and ultimate moves are done with 1 or 2 button presses and the use of a meter that goes up while you fight. All characters are able to move around very quickly and can change directions rapidly. This combined with the fact that most moves have to hit very precisely means most matches devolve into you and your opponent running back and forth and in circles at each other, occasionally clashing with attacks and every so often summoning an ally or activating an ultimate move, which will miss and expend the usage of the ability for the rest of the fight. It basically boils down to running around as unpredictably as possible while spamming the cheapest move you have.
Fighting against the PC is an exercise in frustration as it seems to be able to dodge even when pinned into a corner and pretty much always lands it's ultimates even if they're 25 yards away.
Oh, and the costume customization? While most characters do have 2 or so outfits, it's largely just palette swaps and stealing bits of costume from other characters, so you can have Uraraka running around with Toga's teeth..neck..thing and Stain's mask. Woo.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a habit, I always approach anime based games with a lens of mediocrity. That way I can be pleasantly surprised when they end up being decent. One's Justice fails to impress on multiple levels.

Story: Aside from the tutorial with Gran Torino, the story goes from Iida Vs Stain up to All Might Vs All For One with the UA Sports Tournament unlocked after beating the Villain's story. There're some What If fights as well but It's as abridged as you'd expect from a fighting game with with cutscenes played out with still images, character narration, lines that seem to come straight from the show (I mean archived audio), and the occasional in-game asset movie. This format leads to the iconic scenes from the show coming out as less than lackluster.

Gameplay: Actually pretty great, aside from a few points. The characters generally feel unique although I've noticed a few clone moves in certain fighters. The A.I. never really seems to know if it wants to run away from you or destroy every shred of hope in your body. Some attacks seem to have priority regardless of when they're used and others don't seem to work at all. Also the arenas somehow manage to feel cramped in some cases and you don't really earn much in game currency from fights.

Characters: 11 students,6 villains, and 3 heroes (excluding DLC) and only Kaminari and Jirou serve no real purpose. I wish I was joking.

Customization: Despite being one of the major selling points of the game, this manages to be both too much and not enough at the same same. The accessories you collect manage to reference nearly every named character from the show but only the students have an actual second outfit. And they all come in 4 or 5 color palettes that get treated as separate costumes. You can even change what they say before, during, and after battle but unless you speak Japanese, then you really aren't getting much out of it. You can even collect all these little things to spruce up your online ID card. I guess there's some kinda bragging rights thing involved but I don't really play games online.

Modes: Arcade, Local Match, and Online are the staples for the genre. Follow them up with Story Mode and Mission Mode to try and justify the price tag. Also, Customization so everyone can make their OCs out of their favorite characters.

Closing Thoughts: This game was not worth the $60 price tag. I would say 30 or 40 tops. There's just too much I personally don't see the appeal of to fully enjoy this game. I also had to turn my brain off during story mode just to keep myself from verbally pointing out every inconsistency. And I'm mad they didn't put the UA track suit in the game.

There's room for improvement but if you just want a casual fighting game about people with superpowers to play with your friends then My Hero Academia: One's Justice is for you.

I often found myself thinking as I ran about and jabbed at these balanced versions of very, very unbalanced characters from the series that I would probably have a better time just watching the actual fights again.

The combat is approachable and satisfying enough, but it's pretty clear that people are playing One's Justice for the Hero Academia characters, not the gameplay itself. Overall it's a decent fighting game mechanically but not enough to grip me or in any way enhance my love of the source material.

My Hero One's Justice is a fun game once you first get it. But as time passes on its just a repetitive mess you call a fighting game. Online is not fun it's laggy and buggy, story mode isn't even worth it, and player customization is ok.

This is definitely one of the most mid 3D anime fighting games i've played but it's not awful. The game doesn't do anything too spectacular or horrible either. All in all, My Hero's One Justice is a fun experience for fans, but that's about its limit. It's faithful to the source material almost to a fault, and it does a great job of including little touches and inside jokes that make it clear that a lot of love for the franchise was included in the game. As a game on its own merits, though, it is thoroughly average. The unbalanced gameplay feels appropriate for the franchise, but it can also lead to it not being very fun for head-to-head play. If you're a big fan of the My Hero Academia anime and manga, you'll get your money's worth from this game, but anyone else should wait for a price drop.

There are enough touches for fans to feel the source is appreciated, but outside of seeing your favourites smash each other in the faces, it’s bare bones. [Issue#157, p.88]

My Hero One’s Justice is not a poor offering, just a thoroughly uneven one that only the hardest-core Manga fans will be able to immerse themselves into. I enjoyed the fast-paced, accessible fighting with an art style that looks great in action, but everything around that gameplay leaves things to be desired.
