    Pros

    1. Combat system is great and very complicated. I am veteran in Soul Series. Combat can be clunky at first but once you get used to it, It feel great. Attacking the weakness never been so important. I feel satisfied every time I hammer the monster's head. Forget about lock on system, we don't use it in this game. Every weapon has its own combo and depth. You cannot master it in short time.

2.World dynamic. It is unique system you can't find in any game. Map designed is great. Monster can roaming around and fight other monsters. It sparks excitement everywhere, although it gets repetitive later on but it leaves good impression to me. Visual is beautiful

3.Great BGM - get pump up every time when fight monsters

    ------------------------------------

    Cons

    1. It does not encourage people to play multiplayer as it should do, especially duo. Monster health will get 2.6x when someone join, regardless of number. (2 players will be at most disadvantage). Reward money will share among players ( more people = less money) and Faint also shares (meaning if someone die 3 times it can cause game over even you don't die). I don't see any benefits to play multiplayer if I am good enough to solo monster myself, unless you want to enjoy playing with friends.

    2. Tutorial is not effective enough. Surely, this game has tutorial but it is not enough. Most of the times, you have to go online and search for information. There are a ton of things the game does not tell you or clearly explain to you. Watching guide on youtube and pro player playing your favorite weapon are a must, or else you will miss some technic. A lot of confusion here, you need to read wiki, where to get this XX parts, how to unlock XX, search and read, search and read to your heart content.

3.Lack of objective - This game has its story mission but the main problem is this game does not have EXP unlike others. You will get better by forging new weapon and armor. However, weapon and armor you want will come from few specific monsters. Once you are done your gears, you have no reasons to hunt other monsters that you don't need its part. Sometimes, I just stare at the screen and don't know what to do because I can't improve my character further and if you solo all the way, you have plenty of money. There is jewel random drop from monster but it is random. If you love grinding, it is ok but if you don't then that is it.

    4. Roar ??? - I don't know what others think but I hate monster roar's system. I know you can nullify it with Earplug skill but it is not easy to get lv5 Earplug. I think this system should be removed entirely. It is not fun to wait 5 sec when monster roar, or be forced to use certain skill

    .... ....

Story is not focused here. At least Capcom has tried. I don't want to complain. They are good cinematic btw.

    .......

In sum, Monster hunter world is an awesome game with some serious flaws. Some people will love, some will not. Combat system is good enough to win over repetitiveness but still I prefer the game with less RNG, and please adjust monster's health based on number of players as well (not just 1 or 4)

Monster Hunter: World is a very fun time-killing game worth anyone's time. It features multiple different monsters, an (almost) overwhelming supply of different weapons and upgrades for them, as well as an evolving game that changes to reflect your skill growth and gear upgrades in the game.

For anyone who doesn't know, Monster Hunter's core gameplay mechanics are gathering and hunting, and not much else. You run around in five different places on this continent each varying in size, gather materials to craft all sorts of consumable items used to craft ammunition for weapons, potions, or buffs, as well as items used to negate status effects and more. This is it. There are 30 unique monsters (31 with the coming addition of an MH veteran, the Deviljho), each one with their own attack patterns and weaknesses.

This game's controls do feel a bit clunky at first, but this game's mechanics makes you a better player for it - If there were any points in the game that made me feel as if they were inevitable, I improved my understanding of the dodging and other animations, and these moments disappeared.

Monster Hunter: World's weapon variety is a little bit lacking, however. If you're looking for individual weapon models for each and every upgrade, you'll be disappointed. Most weapons of the same tree look the same until the latter weapon upgrades, and even then there's little variety to be found until upgrading into weapons that are designed from specific monsters. Graphically, this game is also a little lacking. Running off of the same engine that ran the very first Dead Rising means that there is not a lot of optimization - frame rate can drop on the non-pro PS4, and while I cannot say that it is better or worse on the Xbox as I do not own one, I can expect that it is not much different. That being said, this game's graphics are very pretty for what they are. It will not impress many people looking for the best graphics consoles can see, but it is more than acceptable for casual play.

One of the largest problems people have with this game is the fact that it is very grindy, and this is a fair argument. With the main objective of the game being killing or capturing monsters, carving their corpses, using those materials to craft better equipment to kill more monsters, there is not a lot of gameplay variety outside of a few different types of quests involving gathering or killing a specific amount of the endemic creatures.

All in all, this game is a very good game worth peoples' money if they believe that this game is for them. The game is a much more accessible Monster Hunter compared to past games of handheld fame. For people that enjoy just chilling out and nonstop boss fights, this game is for them. Multiplayer, while a little bit tedious as it requires cutscene viewing to set up, is a very good experience, and this game is perfectly catered towards single-player gameplay as well.

The game has a lot of depth, holds your hand at the start but then lets you go pretty early to explore and figure things out, the mechanics, the upgrade system, the monster fights as the games ecosystem, monsters trespassing in another's area will stur up fights which can be amusing to watch.
I've sunk nearly 200 hours into this game, something I didn't plan on doing so, it's just a credit to the game and the world that has been created.

And what a game this is! The learning curve is a bit steep from someone who never has played a monster hunter before. There were lots of new stuff to learn, especially in the first 20-30 hours. I still found out how lots of things work in the game even to the very end, most of which the game doesn't really explain to the player. That's probably what some might find charming about the game.

Let me just start by saying that I really love this game, but it's by no means perfect, so here's a few annoyances I have with it.

My first annoyances is that you have to go into a main quest and see the cut-scene before being able to do the quest in coop with a friend. This is something a few other Japanese games also do (Nioh especially does this and Dark Souls to a degree), they want you to play this how they intended, not how you want to play it. This was really frustrating in the beginning, but after a while you get used to it. I would much rather they didn't do it this way at all. I think this is a Japanese mentality, as I've heard that going into restaurants for instance, you have to eat the meal as they intend it, it doesn't matter if you don't like an ingredient, or is allergic or something like that. I do believe in giving people choices, and if they want to make a coop game, then let me play it coop all the way through if I so chooses.

A few other annoyances are for instance when your character get's stunned/dizzy, and you loose control of the character. I really don't like it when a game makes me loose control, and just has to sit back and watch me die because I couldn't do anything to stop it. I get that it's part of the game and there probably are some armor or skill that can make this a non-issue, but for me this simply isn't fun, and was a major annoyance through-out the whole game.

My last annoyance has to do with me interrupting my friend I was playing coop with. This kind of friendly fire (don't think they take damage) is really frustrating, as I'm sometimes mid-combo and can't stop that combo, and I would just interrupt my friend's attack or something. About two or three hours before completing the game I found a skill that negates this interruption, but both me and my friend would have had a better time without this feature. Playing with strangers, it's super annoying that they can grief you while you carve for instance.

Other than these annoyances, this is one of the better games I've played in a while! The animations on the creatures are top notch, and feels life like! When I see them limping I really feel sorry for the beast, and I find it hard to attack them because of it.

I thought I would get tired of the gameplay loop pretty fast, but I actually didn't, and it was fun to the end! There were always so much to do, that it never got boring. This aspect of the game is truly superb!

As a cat lover/cat owner, the Palico's was what made me buy this game in the first place! The charm of the cat chef and his team of cat cooks won me over pretty fast!

    The story is pointless...
You left your continent for what reason? These dragons left your land and came to this island, also you are the fifth group to come over. They way they talk in the game the first group came over I would say 30 to 50 years ago. So in say 60 years these creatures have stayed on this island, then why are you hunting them. Second your first mission is to cut down the number of the smaller monsters, why? They don't fly so they can't leave the island and if they over populate it would destroy the ecosystem which would take care of the bigger monsters.
The main point of the game is broke...
The main point of the game is combat, your job is to kill the monsters, but it doesn't even work. First, forget the lock-on...pointless, spent most of my first fight swinging at air because even though I was locked-on to the creature, I was facing the other direction. Second, the layout of the buttons is stupid. Three attack buttons R2, circle, and triangle + circle. Why not use R1, R2, and R1 + R2? Oh because R1 is to put your weapon away and sprint, notice I said put away, to get out your weapon you hit Triangle, why? Simple fix R1 and R2 as attacks Triangle to pull out and put away your weapon and circle for sprint.
    The game is pointless....
First off from what I said before you could just stay home. Second, it is such a grind fest. I have no desire to chase the same creature to the same four areas before I kill it, I am not going to grind for equipment if I have to chase the same creature in circles. Third, it is rinse and repeat. You track a creature, which in most cases wasn't there the last 5 to 25 times you went out but now you find tracks everywhere, you attack him, which takes seconds to figure out his moves, you chase him in a circle stopping to attack him for short periods of time (nothing but filler), you finally kill him the mission ends, you level up game items, and do it all again. I heard this is 80 to 100 hour just to finish the main quest, but if you cut out the bs, you could probably finish the sad excuse for a story in 10 minutes.
    Bonus...
People are saying the combat is like Dark Souls, if that is true, I am the richest man in the world. I love Dark Souls, The combat is a joke compared to Dark Souls, I have yet to die and lose anything, there is no fear, no drive, no danger,...no fun.
THE GAME IS POINTLESS!!! and that is the cold hard facts

There are some downsides though, it is a pretty grindy game, but not in a bad way. You will be in 40 hours play time and still not fight every monster or type. The hitboxes are not the best. There will be times that you look like you're away from the monster and they will run by and you will still get hit even though it doesn't look like you're close to it. The camera can become annoying with the bigger monsters. Depending on the angle a wing can take up your entire screen rendering your efficiency in battle. There are however ways to avoid this in the camera setting, but you're giving up some freedom in your movement to do so. Gameplay
The game has one hell-of-a clunky control set. Attacks take (up to) several seconds to execute and feel sluggish. MHW seems to forget about all achievements modern video-game-controls have.
In-game-menus are un-neccessary complex and mostly to small to read them. Tutorials are text-only and per feature you have to read a 2-3 page long manual.
Lock-on-camera in the game is mostly useless and jumps around wildly.
Also there's no difficulty-settings, so if you're not comfortable with what the game throws at you, you're out of luck.

    Graphics
Graphics are ok, but nothing breathtaking. Environments just don't look as good as you would expect them and the overall color-palette is mostly based on mud-brown, making it hard to distinguish between monsters/environments/items/yourself. This leads to you often missing out important stuff that would otherwise help you.
You definitely see that this game is based on a nearly 10-year old game engine.

    Audio
The monster roars are nice. Music is ok, but sooooooo repetitive. After 1-2 hours it's just annoying (esp. the music that's playing in the main city where you do all the in-between-hunts-stuff).

    Multiplayer
Seems ok, but you can't do proper multiplayer during the main story. So you'll play the first 20 hours of the game by yourself. Multiplayer itself is also very poorly implemented and way more complex to set up than it is in basically every other multiplayer game.

The main problem this game has beside the online connectivity issues that make you try to join a quest 10 times before being actually able to join, its its gameplay. It s fun but not engaging and while playing I didn't feel invested at all. It s kinda like an arcade game where you kill things just to kill them and pass time. So yeah, if you are bored its a fun game to kill time, but if your time is limited it could be spent in other games of quality because in all honesty this game is just ok. Its a beautiful, fun but mediocre game.
This game has a "story" which is just watching cutscenes of characters you don't give a damn and looking at beautiful monsters arriving before you ll hunt them.
It should have had a true story/ campaign. In this game none of the characters are interesting, and nobody explains nothing or gives any context to what is happening other than "yeah that monster is bothering us , could you kill it please?"
Why are they monsters in the first place? Who are these "fleets" 1st,2nd,etc? Why were we sailing? Where did we come from? None of these questions are answered.
Then there is the first "boss fight" which is just a set piece of you shooting at a giant mountain and then climbing it to shoot at some rocks. Was it pretty? Yes, but boring as hell.
I should also talk about the combat , which is quite deep and there are 14 different weapons to try which is cool but in reality you ll end up using 2 or 3 tops depending on what monsters you face.

    TLDR:
    +Beatifull environments
    +Monsters feel like living creatures
    +Deep combat mechanics
-the story mode is a joke that doesn't explain nothing
    -uninteresting characters
    -outdated graphics
    -mirriad of online connectivity issues

I understand why some (most?) people don't mind this and have fallen in love with the series; there is some variety in the way different weapons and monsters play, after all. That's what's kept me playing for so long. But it's a mixed bag and not for everyone.

But, then what? The multiplayer aspects feel half-arsed, with no real feeling of playing together. Rather, your pals help you out when you're too weak to handle yourself... Okay then...

The game also gets very repetitive, very fast. I like grinding for meaningful stuff, but in MH:W, you just end up grinding ONE monster for ONE drop that allows you to make ONE weapon. I can't really put my finger on it, but it feels... meaningless. To put it in other words, you "hunt" for one specific item to make any progress and everything else that happens (other drops, other events) is utterly pointless.

While I score it a perfect 10, there are things I would like to see improved and that is MORE content, in previous Monster Hunter games there have been more weapons and armor variety, a lot more monsters to hunt and I hope that capcom add this back with DLC, with Deviljho a good sign that we will be getting returning monsters, there are a lot of classic monsters that I would love to hunt in Monster Hunter World.

First Monster Hunter game I really played in the series, others never really took off for me. MHW is by far the most first-timer friendly game in the series. I've beaten the game now at about 70ish hour mark, haven't really been rushing though, took quite a few optional sidequests etc.

Enjoyed the pace of low rank. High rank was grindier but ok. After that the game is basically garbage.

Enjoyed the pace of low rank. High rank was grindier but ok. After that the game is basically garbage. It is a combination of small things that make later gameplay a chore.

The controls are supper unresponsive, it feels like there is absolutely no input buffering whatsoever. Sometimes input gets ignored completely.

Everything is so drawn out, even outside of a fight. I mean do I really need to wait 10 seconds for that steak eating animation to play, or when drinking a potion to buff my attack?

Do I have to press X 3-5 times every time I go to pick up quest, hand in bounties, get my stuff from the botanist?

The game never bothers to tell the player that radial menu and sort order of the item bar are part of the load out, go figure why every time a loadout is selected everything gets resorted.

Story is meh, characters are forgettable and often annoying.

As a long term Dark Souls and Co. player, I have my own criteria for what makes a good boss. And one hit kills + RNG is a big no no. A player should be loosing because they consistently make mistakes, not because RNG consistently screws them over.

Big monster fights and turf wars, are very nice, but get really old really fast when they happen like every two minutes. Betelgeuse here is the worst offender.

The monster roar is used way too often. I mean can we fight already instead of being stunned half the time?

Uninspired achievements: hunt 100 of that, capture 50 of this, complete hundred quests etc.

Saw "honest review" of Monster Hunter series on youtube, although of course not a serious review, the statement at the end couldn't be more appropriate for MHW: there is a good game somewhere there it is just buried under a pile of garbage.

If you can play Dark Souls or The Witcher and embrace their unique mechanics, then you can play Monster Hunter World. Too many players expect the controls and combat to behave like every other Action RPG. But can you really call yourself a gamer if you can’t tolerate the learning curve?

For those of you who are enjoying this iteration, prepare yourself for G-Rank and a wide plethora of FREE DLC! Welcome to the family and may your journey be as rewarding and joyous as I would hope it be!

I will agree that the combat is similar to Dark Souls, but even clunkier, slower, and much more complicated. The tutorials aren't bad, but then you are thrown in on a monster hunt with barely any time and have to continually attack the monster, hoping that it won't run away (which it always does) and then have to keep on starting over again. Also, the learning curve is not very balanced: one monster would be really easy to capture or kill, then the next one had brutal AI.

What bores me the most is the grindy nature and time spent in menus. Most monsters have a nearly infinite pool of health and require a long session of attacking until dead, often becoming really boring toward the end of the fight. Then, the concept of building new armor is cool with monster parts, but it isn't, it requires a large amount of time spent in menus and crafting, and is very complicated.

The internet connection is slow and glitchy as well.
I kept giving this game a chance, and know that 8 hours isn't too long for this type of game, but I found it exceptionally boring, and I love action-RPGs like Dark Souls, Ys, Tales, etc, but this was downright boring. I give it a 1 because the graphics and monster designs are pretty cool.

However when you finally see the link between things, the expeditions, investigations, arena and finally get how you can team up the game becomes a lot bigger. There are so many details. The fighting feels not smooth in the beginning. I picked two short-blades. Fun but I got mowed down constantly and just having two buttons really annoyed me. It felt slow. Then again, it's something you have to get used to. I haven't played anything like this before - as in I have seen many aspects in other games, it feels like they combined everything in this game. Fans will still love MHW because ofMonster Hunter World is passable. My first Hunter game was Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate on the Wii U. I quit after a few hours. It’s marred by poor execution. MHW shares that problem. It’s better than its predecessors, but decent visuals only exalt it so far. Gameplay is rigid. The steep learning curve turns off newbies. Co-op doesn’t function as intended. Fans will still love MHW because of its many improvements.

MHW's environs are vibrant and sharp. They resembles Kingdoms of Amalur: pretty but cartoonish. The aesthetic is appropriate, but performance limitations hamper more impressive visuals. Details are skimpy. Get close enough to any surface and they appear flat and vague. MHW contains multiple visual modes that either boost framerates or graphics/resolution on the PS4 Pro. There’s noticeable differences between settings, more so than Horizon: Zero Dawn. The performance hit for selecting graphics over framerates isn’t worth it. MHW emphasizes quick reflexes, so frames always win. To activate the settings, players must pick one and reset the game—a cumbersome process that discourages frequent adjustments. Overall, performance is just OK. The long load times stand out.

The story is linear and threadbare. A positive for hunters who want to jump into action. For the rest of us, it's unimaginative and boring. Yet, the series modernized itself without tainting its formula. There’s tons of activity for players who enjoy walloping big things. They can free roam or play missions, and there’s no rush. MHW really shines in co-op. Playing with friends is a blast. However, tracking monsters is easy. Getting to objectives only takes a few moments, and the world feels smaller and smaller as time goes on. One of the biggest drawbacks to MHW is its undersized set pieces. If the fancy graphics were toned down, MHW's world could be reproduced on last gen systems. Xenoblade Chronicles X contains an equally large world on puny hardware.

There's lots of gear. The concept is simple: Hunt monsters, earn parts, use parts to craft gear. Upgrading is odd. Weapons need monster parts to upgrade. Players can pick different upgrade paths for weapons which affect their damage output. Armor requires parts to create, but only needs spheres to upgrade. Some armors look really cool, but their bonus stats are lame. Once armor is crafted only their defense rating can be improved. Unlike weapons, there’s no way to alter armor bonuses. Players must equip pieces of armor with the same bonuses so those bonuses will stack. This counterintuitive mechanic prohibits hunters from favoring whole armor sets. Crafting gear requires lots of grinding. The nonlinear gear progression penalizes players who don't carefully choose upgrade paths.

Character creation is decent. However, toons look awful ingame. Just awful. So cover those ugly mugs with helmets.

The learning curve is unnecessarily steep. Players will get lost because the opening tutorials suck and nothing is fully explained. Inventory management is a mess. The leveling system is opaque. However, players shouldn’t hesitate to experiment. A few crafting mistakes won't matter all that much as things progress.

Online functionality is broken. At launch, lobbies were full of players. Not anymore. They must manually search SOS flares to participate in co-op adventures. Considering the lengthy beta, online elements were tacked on. The base of operations only contains NPC’s. A big letdown for a co-op game. The online functionality needs an overhaul to stay viable. There’s too much competition for half-assed experiences. Questing works well enough once players team up. Lag is minimal. Unfortunately, teams are only as strong as the weakest members. Careless players will cause missions to fail. Some monster parts are difficult to farm with randoms.

Gameplay is the weakest link. Navigating terrain is awkward. Combat is stiff and imprecise. In all situations, character movement lacks fluidity. Camera angles are erratic and controlling it is a chore. The targeting feature is awful. Monster animations can be unpredictable. In coop, monster agro constantly shifts which leads to unfocused battles. Even the largest creatures will instantly spin around to land fatal blows. These nimbly acrobatic moves are ridiculously unrealistic.

Without co-op, MHW isn't as fun because it feels dated and clunky. Dark Souls delivers better combat and straightforward progression. An apt comparison since both franchises share similar focuses. Horizon Zero Dawn is a better alternative for solo players who wanna smack dinosaurs. MHW is good enough, but things don't pick up until mid/late game. Many players will quit before reaching that point.

Once players grasp its nuances, they’ll see MHW's flaws can be overlooked. However, MHW’s success indicates Japanese developers may have another great year. I'm OK with that. Western developers are obsessed with FPS shooters.

The next installment in the Monster Hunter series is finally here with Monster Hunter: World. After moving from a portable system to a home console the world of monster hunter has become much more immersing, getting rid of loading screens and having many monsters typically fighting each other when they meet, either in what is called turf wars or just fighting each other normally. The game itself is rather simple in choosing between 14 different weapon types to fight boss like monsters and create gear out of their carves and materials. The game itself gives you, the player, a great sense of progression in that you fight progressively harder and more complex monsters and creating progressively stronger gear as a result. If you enjoy challenging fights, grinding gear, and seeing yourself improve this game is a great introduction into the world of Monster Hunter.
In the past this game has had a stigma of being rather hard to get into, whether that be the many gathering quests that are required in past games or the complexity of the game that was typically not explained to you in game. All that changes with World as the game is much more streamlined to help new players get into the game. If you’re someone who is new to the series or had trouble getting into the game in the past and want to try it out again this would be the best game to start. Instead of forcing you through many gathering quests the game quickly throws you into the world. The game constantly gives you tutorials to be able to understand the various mechanics involved with the game like crafting and farming instead of keeping it rather unknown like in previous games.
The gameplay has also been revamped to be easier to get into. There is a new mechanic in scout flies that help you easily get into the fighting as they lead directly to the monsters instead of forcing you to look over the map. The tutorials also expand to the weapons and show many of the combos and mechanics involved with each weapon, as well as a training area that explain the multiple combos and the inputs required. There are also many small changes like newly added damage numbers that help you, the player, get feedback on your gameplay whether that would be knowing where to attack or just how much your attacks do.
With the increased accessibility that many of the changes bring to Monster Hunter: World, this is a great starting point into getting into the series. One that you will hopefully enjoy!

So what is the point? Going back and forth, killing animals, getting herbs, rinse repeat? Or am I missing something?

Also, I think it is EXTREMELY OBNOXIOUS to force me into creating an online session as soon as I want to load my save file. No. I want to have the option of playing this alone, don't force me into online play, Capcom.

The game is a great, grindy-fest, but after playing it for a couple of hours it's clear to me that this is a niche-game. So my advice is: do not fall into the trap of the reviews and videos saying this is the greatest game of all times. It's not. My biggest contentions however are the ugly character models with mass effect andromeda tier facial expressions, and the clunky and outdated interface for putting a party together for multiplayer, this really needs doing away with in favour of an easier to use matchmaking system more in line with today's multiplayer titles.

The game has plenty of tutorial text that teach you how to play the game, while that may seem tedious, if you take it seriously you'll have a fantastic early experience. Story is good enough and enjoyable, and makes your character seem like a bad A. The Palico companions are a good comic relief and super cute, and i do not like cats so that's saying a lot. Now to the main meat of this... the game-play loop: It's perfect. The way the grind rewards it's players is how Destiny fans wish their game was. Every fight is a boss battle, situations constantly change, and you can affect what parts you are rewarded with by which part of the body you attack on the Monsters. The online sessions can be a little annoying, but for this to be the series first big entry on a new gen system with fantastic online capabilities, it's not worth complaining about since i've had no problems playing with friends when i want to.
If you want a challenging game, a new series to get into, a game to grind, grind, and grind... and be rewarded for it... this game is for you. There is nothing more satisfying than landing a successful mount on a monster, or capturing one before time runs out. And with 14 different weapon types, traps, bait, armor, and skills there's not a play-style that's not in this game. To top all of this off, the soundtrack for the game is incredible and puts it all together.
Do yourself a favor, pick up Monster Hunter: World and give it a good chance. Get through the very early game patiently and learn the core of the game, and you'll be addicted to the game... just like this guy who has never touched a Monster Hunter title previously.

Somebody at Capcom loves huge, epic monsters, dinosaurs and dragons of all types an varieties. Monster Hunter has been the premier franchise for chasing these beasts down and battling, but for years and years was relegated to portable systems. Nothing wrong with that, but for me I could never get into it. The small screen felt like it was a disservice to how incredible the creatures were and how grand the hunts could get.

That's a problem no more. With Monster Hunter World Capcom finally brings its biggest franchise to the big screen and all of the depth, the nuance, and the monster hunter-ness of it all.

The transition to the consoles isn't a direct 1 to 1 conversion. Monster Hunter world has made a lot of changes to appeal to the mass market. the game has so many quality of life improvements to every single aspect of it. From the crafting, the information on certain monsters, and the core gameplay itself. In game flies help you track monsters, maps are massive with no loading between small rooms, the entire game is polished and a lot of the guess work and tedium of the prior games is gone.

Normally that is the kind of things to make veterans scoff. Dumbing down games is a major problem in today's market, with the appeal of the casual fan making some hardcore franchises incredible player friendly to the fault of the core game itself.

Monster hunter avoids that problem entirely. They take all the info that was relegated to online searches and wikipedia and incorporated all of that into the game itself. Need to know what parts you need and from what monster? The likely-hood of certain mats compared to others, it's all in the game. The ins and outs of using weapons and some of the particulars to certain combos are all in the game. All of these quality of life changes alongside superb online, great visuals and a game in 2018 free of the dlc micro-transaction mess that has become so commonplace all add up to a fantastic experience.

The best part of that is, it's all done without sacrificing depth. The gameplay is weighty, the hunts are intense and you can and will be defeated when you go against Rathalos or Diablos for the first time.

That is also what makes this game so great, the first time you land a trap, mount and capture or kill a monster its a satisfaction that cant be explained. So try it for yourself, and see why Monster Hunter World is easily one of Capcoms best games in years, and one if not the best monster hunter in a very long time.

This has got to be one of the worst games I’ve played in my life, horrible controls, some times you end up fighting a wall and enemies just standing there like deer in headlights, boring story, stupid voices, outdated game play, childish characters. This game could have been a hit in the early 90s

You really live in fear sometimes of the roaming monsters. One time my main target was a dumb bird that carries rocks and eggs but a stone dino came and attacked us! Both me and dumbbird ran away and continued our fight elsewhere.
There is so much content here and even though it´s a lot of online components all can be enjoyed offline alone, or with your CAT!

Your Palico will be your most precious companion and the outfits your cat wears will be top priority. Everytime I downed a new monster I checked if the new catfit was good and usually it was SUPER KAWAIIIIIII!

There might be some time to learn all there is to learn but if you find 1 weapon you like just go for it. You will get the chance to change it up. I started with Hunting Horn, played most with insect Glaive and now feeling around the Switch Axe and Sword & Shield.

I will give it 10 cause it has so much to experience for the price tag.
Free Monster DLC will come and there is paid cosmetics. I bought an outfit for my "Handler" (She is annoying, embrace it) for a small amount. There is also a little face paintings and hairs that can be bought.

I knew next to nothing of this franchise before World and nearly 2 weeks in I have over 110hrs on my hunter and counting. Gameplay is addictive, combat is satisfying, graphics are well executed. I hope they make many more Monster Hunter games on console in the future. World is a clear 10/10 game for me.

Each monster is unique with different attacks and you need to use strategy to figure out how to take the monster out. To give an example, prior to hunting a certain monster you need to track it and gather information about it. Then as you prepare for battle you need to think about things like do I have any pieces of armor that may protect me from the certain types of attack this particular monster uses, do i have enough health potions, does the monster use poison and if so do I have antidotes made, what weapon will I use, do I want to focus on a specific type of damage, if I eat before what stats do I want buffed so I can select the appropriate meal, what side tools do I need such as do I want something that can stun a monster with a flash of light? Is it an area with lots of monsters where I may want a tool to drive off other monsters who may jump into the middle of the fight etc? Do i want to bring traps to make an attempt to capture the monster? You inventory that you take with you is limited space so its best to pack according to the particular hunt. What areas of the monster are weak points and what are they weak to? Is there a way to minimize the monster's special attacks via targeting certain areas of the monster's body or using specific attacks? What about the environment? Are there things that could collapse and catch us in the middle of battle? Is there nearby wildlife that will jump into the fight? Are there nearby plants or animals who if triggered in a fight will create issues? How can I use the environment against the monster? Then assuming I kill the monster and carve it up I take those components and see what I can make in terms of gear for the next monster and the cycle continues. Its incredibly addicting and there is sooo much more to it than just this very brief and vague description. The combat can feel a bit clunky but this is not a game for button mashing. This is a game where you pick your spots, where you observe your opponent and anticipate its moves and then strike when there is an opening to do damage. Almost every fight is a boss fight. Between the crafting, the looting, the gathering, the combat and all the quests its quite a bit of content and works well together. If you are on the fence about this game I'd recommend picking it up. If you do not have a long attention span and want a game you can finish in 30 hours then this is not the game for you. This is a game that requires a commitment to learn (the game only explains the very basics so you will need to go online and watch videos etc to really learn how to be the best with your chosen weapon- it most certainly is not game that will hold your hand but it does a decent job of providing the very basics to get started) and have your character grow with. I'm really enjoying my time with it and I was deeply hesitant at first. There is a ton of content for the value.Ignore the low scores of 0 or 2. Even if this game is not your cup of tea the game still deserves well above those scores. Its not a perfect game but it is very enjoyable and is a contender for one of the top games of 2018. Expand

-Quality of life changes are extremely abundant. Some are very welcomed such as the Hunter Notes being an ingame wikipedia after a few hunts of whatever monster you are farming, whereas others are unnecessary and make the game easier than it already is.
-Low Rank monsters have extremely low health and their parts are easily broken. However, their damage output is still substantial.
-Weapons have new combo strings which makes each weapon type even more interesting.
-Maps no longer have loading between zones and have a ton of verticality. You interact with the wildlife and the environment in a number of ways which makes you feel immersed and connected.
-All but one of the new monsters have unique and interesting designs. Each fight is extremely entertaining.
-Load times between the online lobby, the town itself, and preparing/departing on missions can get lengthy at times on a base PS4 (not pro).
-The weapon trees are a little limiting in terms of planning your upgrade path. Further upgrades aren't even shown until you 'unlock' that level of the tree.
-Armor skills give the skill innately instead of having to add up to (handicraft needed 10 points to get +1 sharpness before, now you just need an armor with handicraft to get +1 sharpness). Some skills have multiple ranks. Overall, it is much easier to get the skills that you want.

The game is extremely fun once you get past the first few hunts and start facing more formidable foes and get the hang of the new systems. If you are a fan of the older games, keep an open mind going into this one as it is certainly easier but the difficulty picks up substantially at HR. If you are a newcomer, take your time in the beginning and find a weapon you enjoy.

And not being able to cancel various movements is so frustrating. Like I'm carving a tail and see a godamn mosquito flying over to bite me and I can't do anything to prevent it. Or sharpening a weapon and clearly see a pissed off dragon preparing to charge my face and my character just keeps on sharpening. Let me drop the weapon and jump away or something please :(

The story is weak with light and childish presentation accompanied by horrendous lip-sync. The online matchmaking is often unreliable and the arena seems to be socially dead. Worst of all, the entire game is basically a grind with no means to an end (this could probably be said with all Monster Hunter games though).

It's just not fun for me. I tried so hard getting into it, but after 30+ hours of doing the same objectives over and over again in different missions I just wasn't enjoying it at all. I will give it props for good music, beautifully detailed environments, and the game itself to be very solidly made and nearly free of technical issues. But aside from occasionally having fun in co-op, I can't help but feel like my money was somewhat wasted by being pressured into thinking something rather repetitive and generic was worth investing time into. I would never dare call it an awful game in a public place, but it's just not for me. This is my first and last Monster Hunter.

There are a deep crafting and gathering system various fighting styles and a decent amount of content. My issues come from having so many mechanics left unexplained that you will get punished for not knowing. There is a lot of stuff you will have to go to the wiki or youtube for to even stand a chance if you are not a series vet. Trial and error isn't a bad system if the length of trials wasn't anywhere form 30min -2hrs to walk away with nothing. The pacing of fights is interrupted by monsters running away at random or monster flying away to the other side of the map.
There are also a lot of smaller issues that don't make sense. Some actions will cause you to carefully put away your weapons in a fight. Some animations are overly long and you are locked into animations for a few moment after they end, making some combat and item use very clunky and some items take longer than others with no indication on what items will take longer Setting a trap is faster than drinking a potion. Single player doesn't feel balanced when monsters can chain stun and leap over or sometimes glitch through impassable terrain and are very much HP sponges until you have weapons beyond that monster's level, even when matching up against elemental weaknesses. Multiplayer is where the game shines. Having multiple hunters makes the fights go by at much more reasonable pace and adds a sense of excitement, but the multiplayer set up is not the best.
Once you start to get past the quirks and get some outside help the game can be very fun, until something brings it back down again.

It's a very easy game that's only challenging because of the clunky game play and huge volume of attacks required to kill a monster.

This game is clearly not for me, which is very disappointing because I LOVE dinosaurian types of enemies and RPGs. I thought this would be a surefire purchase and instead I'm walking away from it wanting a refund and utterly baffled as to the praise and high scores that it has received.

Here you play as your own created hunter with your kitty companion and you set out to slay monsters, which I feel are doing nothing wrong, theyre just minding their own business, living life and humans come around to mess that up for them..
Im not some peta vegan, but at first I felt kind of unconfortable just running around slaying monsters for being a nussance…
I felt like I was the monster… but the fact this game evoked that kind of emotion for me means that theres something special here… the world of monster hunter feels alive and real.. I felt immersed tracking down my targets…
The experience youll have with this game is going to be completely dependent on how you choose to play…
If you play solo, this game is basically a boss rush dark souls with a cat companion that will aid you in battle and heal you, and if you play with friends it’s a destiny feeling game
The game starts out giving you 1 of every weapon type so you can find the right one for you.. and then build your character around it.. this is a decision that’s crucial you make early on if youre not the grind type…
But basically you can investigate the worlds, gather materials to craft potions antidotes and possibly ammo, slay monsters and pick bone piles for parts to craft better armour and weapos for both you and your companion, do side quests for rewards or you can straight up stick to the story which will have you on essentially a boss rush mode quest of monster contract after monster contract…
If you have a crew youll have a decently enjoyable and addictive experience here…
When you start am assignment you can go in solo or with a party of up to 4 players,
You then follow scout flies to tracks that will lead you to your target, and you can pick up items along your way for crafting
and if you go in alone, once you track down your target, you have the option to shoot an sos flare which will bring in random players to help you…
However no matter how you play, solo or with friends… you only have 4 lives to kill this monster.. but heres where my annoyances with this game comes in.. everything is constantly being timed…
I actually love that there are only 3 continues allowed… but the timer on literally everything you do just makes this game feel frustrating.. the most of which is the 30 second timer that starts once the monster is slain… if you die and youre running back to your team and they kill the monster before you get back.. congrats.. you don’t get to skin it for its materials…even if youre the one that did most of the work taking it down, it doesn’t matter… if youre not back in 30 seconds you get nothing but the rewards for completing the task… its annoying that the game doesn’t let you choose when to leave after completion…
Even more annoying is that even the expeditions which is essentially the games free roam mode where youre free to hunt and grind for whatever materials you want with infinite lives is secretly timed as well… I got closed to slaying some dragon and I get a warning that its about to leave soon… then a message pops up that it got away and I felt like I completely wasted my time…
But despite these massive annoyances I had with this game, I just couldn’t walk away…
The fights all feel so different and so engaging, you can trap monsters, you can luer them into turf wars with other monsters, its amazing to think back to a previous battle and realize that that battle was in the same game.. it feels like a distant memory.. and the experience felt so unique.. but it was all in this same world…
its almost magic how great this game does at mixing up basically the same loop of over come the odds and slay this beast… the battles will take you to new parts of the map, youll deal with new challenges and attack patterns
    But its no easy feat…
The dark souls comparisons are made not only because battles are so tough but because of the combat feeling.. its stiff.. its slow… youre juggling your stamina and attacks, youre breaking to sharpen your sword, youre fleeing for new materials.. but one thing the souls games do that I with this game did was show a health bar
the game manages to give you that one more try feeling.. but not nearly as strong as it would if you actually could see the progress you were making.. sure youll cut of tails and sometimes they’ll limp away
But I still had no clue if I was close or not.. if I could keep trying and do it on my own or if I needed to call in for help..
This may seem like a little thing, but I feel this small addition could push this game to the next level.. at least for me, as in its current state bosses just feel ridiciously spongy
And in general the feeling of a lack of progression is the negative aspect that sticks out the most for this game..
    I give Monster Hunter World
    an 8.5/10

The gameplay feels so incredibly slow and clunky. Simple things like putting away a weapon take a needlessly long time, it may not seem like much, but given how much you'll be putting it away and drawing it during a fight for absolutely anything other than hitting and that this could well lead to you dying as a result, it's hard not to feel frustrated at it.

No, it being worse in the past does not magically excuse any criticism.

Even with the streamlining the depth of the environments can create some frustration for players, new and old alike. You'll constantly find yourself running out of time on a hunt when you're on the cusp of victory because the monster you were after bypassed a bunch of terrains to get away from you and you have no idea which one of the 8 branching paths through tunnels, rivers, and vines gets to them the fastest. These things will eventually be learned however at that point if feels more like muscle memory and less like an accomplishment. It has the same 'souls-borne' movement style the series originated. and sometimes it feels frustrating and overdone. For example; a character walking slowly and taking 5 times longer than the average human to drink a potion from a vial while a dragon charges you or lights you on fire.

It's still a good game but you shouldn't have to push through a barrier of frustration to get to that part.

In the future, I'd like to see them get rid of the timer. Just let people hunt and reward them for improving their time. I feel like Monster Hunter Online is a more enjoyable experience (provided you can read Chinese)

This is my first Monster hunter game and while I have partly enjoyed my 45 hours played so far I have also severely hated it at times. I think that this game IS good but it has some issues that make playing it extremely frustrating.

Below are some of the issues I had with the game.

    1. I find there is literally no point playing this game with other people, unless its in a squad with real life friends, even then if your teammates are bad it just makes it harder for you to get a kill.

    2. Monster vs Monster fighting is cool the first time but having to go through it every single fight just gets annoying. The number of times I'll be fighting one monster in a cave and all of a sudden this giant flying dragon, in a buggy manner starts spamming moves into this confined space and there is literally no room to move.... yeh so cool...

    3. Why the hell does the map need a lock on feature, can't i just aim the damn pointer and click where I want the way point without some stupid thing locking onto whatever is closest.

    4. Flying monsters change locations too often. This coupled with the fact that your scout flies will lose track of your chosen target every time you come across another small or large monster and re selecting the monster just seems to do nothing until you run away from your current foes.

    5. The targeting system is actually useless, I have started playing without using it at all. The random locking on to a target through walls when you do use it is actually laughable

    6. Fighting giant, flying (or even non flying) monsters in small, cramped locations with them spamming their moves over and over is simply not fun at all.

    7. The weapon and armour sets/skills just seem very boring and uninspiring maybe this is due to my inexperience but I have progressed into high rank simply using bone armour and a bone charge shield.

I really just don't see this game lasting much longer than a couple weeks as a popular game on Twitch and I believe it will pretty much die out soon with only hard core fans continuing to play. I am disappointed by this as i hoped they could have made this game into something much bigger, better and long lasting. I know it doesn't follow the traditional MH formula but why couldn't they streamline the multiplayer aspect, making it easier to find people to play with and having more incentive to actually play multiplayer. Adding in DPS meters or such to promote competitiveness, having some form of ranking based on skill not just how much you've played, Much more variety in possible gear builds. In my opinion its these types systems that make games last longer and stay popular. Anyway, just my 2 cents.

The monsters does almost nothing they only big and take lots of damage and if you are under leveled you're doomed. There is no skills or anything required for this game than leveling up and kill big brainless monsters that does 2 moves each.

The only thing most of the people are bragging about is the graphics which is nothing special at all for a 2018 game. For all of you who are comparing this to the Souls games then you have no idea what the hell you are babbling about.

Monster Hunter World adds on an already exceptional series to cater to both veterans and newbies, showing us just how powerful the game is on the next generation consoles. As a veteran this game has brought me back to my roots and now shares the masterpiece of the series in a greater worldwide light, much to the delight of fans who have already been singing its praises for the past decade.

Another staple of the franchise is the loot system and the grinding. You’ll see yourself battling the same monster 10, 15+ times to get that rare carve with 4% drop rate and targeting specific vulnerable parts to break them and raise the chance a little bit – but you’ll love every step of the way. Every fight feels fantastic as what differs in you killing a Rathalos in 28 min, using 10 mega potions and 10 potions, and you killing it with ease in 8 minutes with no need for heavy healing is your personal progress, your proficiency with your gear and reading the monster tells. The grinding treats you right.

This game is all about learning. Learning your weapon of choice, your environment, your target, and overcoming it with pure skill. Then you forge stronger weapons, better armor, and move on to harder enemies.

And enemies are king here. With numerous monsters to hunt, each with its own quirks strengths and weaknesses, learning how they act and how to best them, is part of the fun. You might not be able to avoid being attacked at first, but eventually you learn the tells, and know how much to push before retreating to safety. Monster interact between themselves, and it's common to go on a hunt for a monster, and a stronger monster attacking that monster, creating a dynamic turf war.

You have plenty of tools at your disposal that let you control the flow of the fight though. Most monsters will flee if pelt in the head with a dung bomb for example. Maybe you want to stop a monster from flying away, a flash bomb would be perfect. You can even lay traps and lure monsters with fresh meat that you laced with your poison on tranquillisant of choice. Just make sure the monster is a carnivore - a Diablos won't care for meat for example. Like I said, learning each monster is part of the game.

There are 14 weapon styles and literally hundreds of weapons to chose, each beaving closer to a fighting game, than an action game. There are a few combos and a "super" on each weapon, so you get an added layer of skill. It's not just about spacing and timing. Weapons might have elements, so choosing the right weapon for the hunt can make the whole difference. Take your water sword if you are hunting a fire dragon. Armor, likewise, has natural resistances and weaknesses, so careful selection of gear might make all the difference between surviving a barrage of attacks. Skill is still king though, the best players will often fight "naked", to show off how well they mastered that monster.

There is no RPG levels here. You only get stronger by the equipment you create and use. You'll only do as much damage as the sword you have equipped, and your skill permits. So there is a natural progression to the game. You slay a monster, carve his parts and move on to harder monster, with better weapons and armor made of those parts.

The game has so many systems, it's easy even for veterans to lose themselves, so it tries not to overwhelm you initially. It brings new concepts and systems one at a time, with stuff to learn even when you already put 50 hours into the game.

The game supports up to 4 players in a co-op mission, with a 16 player lobby. This is where monster hunter starts to shine. Hunting in multiplayer has the difficulty adjusted, so the monster will be slightly harder, but likewise, 4 hunters do more damage than just 1. Weapon diversity in the party will usually work best, as each weapon might excel at one task, but be mediocre at other.

The game looks stunning. We finally get to see all those monsters, weapons and armors in current gen detail, and it's glorious. Framerate is unlocked in the 3 graphical choices you are given (on the PS4 Pro), which can be a minor complaint for some people, it personally didn't bother me.

There are a few minuscule negative points I feel compelled to bring up though, and they all seem like hereditary problems. Old Monster Hunter games split single player and multiplayer missions. Not MHW, although it only lets you start the multiplayer mode for a story mission after you saw a cutscene in single player. This is cumbersome and unnecessary, but it can be worked around. Stuff like guild card list, works as a secondary friends list, and is completely unnecessary in the console versions. It comes from a time when consoles didn't have a friend list to begin with, and it made sense back then. Right now, there is no reason to be implemented as it is.

I feel I barely described this game, but I certainly would recommend everyone to at least try it. For hardcore gamers, this is a must.

1)My favorite way to play the game is solo. I hate that online play is pushed and shoved down my throat. 2)The "story" is weak and the characters are uninteresting. 3)The worst disappointment is the open world. Yes, it's bigger, and more visually satisfying, and there are more nooks and crannys to explore, but this game IMO is not a true open world game. You cannot go anywhere you like. Essentially this is the old system of areas, but the areas are bigger and more detailed. The areas are still numbered, and you still have boundaries around each one. The difference is that you don't cut from one area to another. You have to actually walk or run from one to the other. An open world game to me means that if you see a location on the map that is inside the map you should be able to go there, and that isn't true here. There are points that cannot be climbed or descended, so you can't get just anywhere you care to go.

All the complaints aside Monster Hunter is the best video game franchise I have played, and nothing has been done to put a dent in that. The endless number of collectibles, and the complexity and strategy around how to attack the monsters is still there, and presents an engaging challenge. There are some improvements too. I love the loadouts in the menu system. It's terrific to be able to create a loadout, so that I don't have to re-think each quest's provisions.

I guess one good thing about the poorly executed open world is that it give the franchise somewhere to go for the next entry.

So after spending a great majority of my three day weekend over indulging in Monster Hunter: World, here is my review.

This is by far the best Monster Hunter title yet. But there are some new issues despite some great quality of life improvements.

Little things like being able to move and use items is a very welcome addition, but takes away some of the crucial decision making that was part of the fun.

Merging single player and multi player was a great idea but the execution is very flawed. You can only see quests posted in your session (max of 16 players) and in order to find anything other than the one or two that show up you have to search for an SOS flare. These quests are usually fine but I have dropped into a bunch of hunts where they are on their last continue only to fail the mission as soon as I get loaded in and make it to the fight.

With being able to harvest most resources just by walking by them and a quick press of the button, the scout flies are a great addition to help spot the now bountiful amount of harvesting points. It's also incredibly fun to do the initial tracking of the monster with them. But they've also aided in dumbing down some other elements of the series, as once you've found the monster they can always guide right whereit went. So you no longer need to paint the monster to keep track of it once if flees.

Finally moving to the more powerful hardware and making the maps one giant local as opposed to 10 - 15 small rooms is amazing. The areas feel fast and alive.

Overall, this is what the series needed albeit still with some fine tuning still. Pick this game up. It will eat up all your time.

MH has always being clunky with the PVP, but in every game they try to make it more fun or useful which is something that is appreciated from capcom. In this game is confusing but it is not bad at all... just need some adjustments. I don't get the 16 ppl room if you can only go to quests with 4 of them.

The only thing that I am disappointed at, is that the game feels so easy than in the previous games. I remember just getting all the types of healing potions and debuff stuff... now I just leave with 10 potions, 10 mega potions and I don't even use them.

Overall the game is perfect for MH veterans because it brings lots of new stuff for us, gameplay is the same that we love with major adjustments, but for new ppl I feel is just another game.

MHWAs a 14 years franchise fan, It is very hard for me to evaluate this game. On one side I couldn't be more happy of having back the chance to play MH on my home console with better multiplayer functions and graphics. On the other hand I coldn't help but being frustrated by comparing this game to all the others recent entries in the series. All things considered I gave it a 7 out of 10. MHW is infact a good, and very well crafted game; sadly it s flowed by some severe issues that could easly make it look like the worst entry in the franchise for someone. This is true expecially for old MH veterans, that surely have very different expectations than newcomers, or any other player wich is less awere of this game's heritage.

What follows is my personal review, divided by different categories.

    GRAPHICS -meh-
MHW Graphics don't shine mostly becouse low-definition textures, and clipping problem that afects armors, weapons and monsters all togheter. All things considered, I would have reasonably expected this part of the game to be a little better then it actually is. Same goes for Frame rate wich is sadly very far from stability and even farther from the 60 FPS threshold. I personally think that the game would have grealty benefited from having a 30 FPS cap, instead of having framest fluctuating constantly between 50 and 25, making all feel sluggish sometimes.
On the bright side, the PS4 pro comes with 3 diferent settings that let the player chose the way they prefer to experience the game ( one of these prioritizes frame rate, another does the same for resolution, and the third one is a mixture between the two). The game is also provided with full HDR support, and benefits of a very good art direction which makes it pleasent to the eye at first glence.

    SOUND -good-
The soundrak is on par with the older instalments of the series, many of the themes are still there in all their glory, many others have been rivisited without bein worse. Just one thing I noticed aobut the audio in genral is that it has been settet to be very low for some reason. I found my self forced to se the TV audio higher than I usually do with other games and with TV in general, just to be able to fully apreciate the beuty of the soundrtack, why this happens is a mistery to me, if it is a gamedesign choice than I can say it is a very bad one, but I realize that this is not the only factor in paly here.

    STORY -meh-
And here we come to the sore notes. For some reason, probably the one to appeal to a much broader audience, Capcom decided to focus more on the many story. For the old fans like I am, this reminded me a lot of MH4 that did the same, but in a way better way. This game has some quests that are sotry only and presents themselves avulse of the game very gameplay. You find yourself to run arround without bein able to attack or just for the sake of hearing people talking. This missions are not completely bad per-se, they are just boring most of the times and the purpose they serve would have been served much better by some dialogs or short cutscenes between real missions.

    GAMEPLAY -super good-
By far the best part of the game. Combact system is better then it ever was, all wepon types recived some rework to make them even better. Almost all the semplifications like the monster guide, weapons tutorial and weapon trees available at the forge make the game feel younger the ever. Also the things you can interact with in the maps environments make a big deal into making the world of MH feel alive. I won't deny that all of these are big semplifications, but I more then welcome them if they are done with the palyer's quality of life in mind.

    CONTENT -terribly bad-
MHW sadly suffers, if compared with ALL the other entryes in the series, of a severe case of lack of content. The situation is best explained with a confrontation between this game and MH4U (3DS).
    - Number of locations: 6 (MHW)/ 19 (MH4U)
    - Number of large monsters to hunt: 31 (MHW)/ 74 (MH4U)
I'm not reporting the number of quests since the data for MHW is not yet available on monserhunter.wika.com, wich is the source of these informations.
    However you should consider that:
    - MHW has NO class G missions
    - MHW has NO guild missions
Moreover the absence of the guild makes it so that, by a precise game design choice, most of the game content is made available to the player only after finishing certain parts of the main quest. Which is not bad per-se, but contributes to create a sense of lack of content and bore for the veterans wich will find the game very easy and slow in it's first pahses, being deprived of the extra freedom and difficulty that guild missions provided in previous games.
The only hope I have is that in the future DLCs and add-on missions will be added to the point that this lack is goin to be at least parcially cured. But it feels sad that content I was used to get for free from previous titles I will have to pay extra now.

MHW has addicting game-play with a well implemented crafting system. Your character progression is achieved through your own ability getting better, learning the monsters, and upgrading your gear. This all makes for a very rewarding experience. The bad - Matchmaking and getting your friends to play with you is pretty clunky. I feel like this shouldn't be an issue in

Overall 8.5, but since we don't have that option on the scale I'll round up to a 9.

Honestly, if the Low and High Rank portions wasn’t as polished and an incredible experience to go through. This score would be 7/8 margin just because compared to previous games, the rotating event quests, RNG investigations for RNG loot, reduced weapon and quest pool, and less challenging solo player end game. But, with the incredibly constructed world, incredible combat experience, and cohesive experience, the downpoints are more just demands for more content.

I won't rehash the problems I had with World simply because they make me profoundly sad. I wanted to like the game, I hoped the new direction would bring the series to a new level, but instead, the whole thing blew up in my face like a Marshmallow Peep left in the microwave too long.

Moving to real consoles has paid off for Monster Hunter. The fifth installment is bigger, nicer and funnier (a bit). In addition, a number of free addons will extend the entertainment for another dozens of hours. [Issue#283]
