I wanted to like this game but instead I found it profoundly average. Basic go kill it quests, repetitive gameplay, and simple builds make for a game that's just not much of a long term thing. There is a first for everything and Monster Hunter World is the first Monster Hunter game that I decided to sit down and give it a try. I am glad that I did, I became obsessed with this game and played it non-stop for a week. You know how there is Shark Week, it was Monster Week.

To boil this game down to its simplest, its eat, hunt, craft. Before a hunt, you want to sit down and eat.

Eating can give you a boost in health, stamina, attack, defense or give you some elemental resistance. Personally me I chose to always go with the Chefs Special because it always gave the max stamina and health. Plus it would then give a boost in the other three, its always random but I liked going into each hunt with max health and stamina.

Next on the list is hunt, sometimes you go on a hunt to carry on the story or sometimes you may be looking to craft something. Which brings me to the last of the loop which is craft. The stronger monsters have better armor and weapons so your goal is to keep fighting stronger monsters so you can craft better armor and weapons so that way you can be better equipped to fight stronger monsters. That’s the loop and you just keep doing that over and over again until your heart is content.

The game has plenty of weapon options which allows for almost any playstyle. When I first played the game in the beta, I leaned towards the bow and arrow which feels great to use but in the beta, I struggled against the Nergigante which forced me to try different weapons. I wound up using the sword and shield, really liked that so when the full game was released I immediately went to that.

What drove me to keep playing this game is, it felt unique. I am having a hard time trying to figure out what this game reminds me of. Yes, its another loot based grinding game but the combat itself doesn’t feel like any of those kinds of games. The combat itself feels very unique and its refreshing to play something so different.

If I had to poke holes in the game, it would probably be its story. It’s just a very bland story that feels tacked on, I didn’t find it interesting at all. The on;y reason why I advanced the story was so I could open up new monsters, areas, and quests. Also, this is just a personal pet peeve but in all of the cut scenes that your character is in, they’re just an empty vessel. They don’t do or say anything, they just stand there, it’s just odd because all of the other characters would talk or at least be animated but yours just stands there.

One of the tougher questions I could ask myself is what is my favorite monster? I think I would have to go with one of the Elder Dragons and that’s the Teostra. I just thought it was a very cool looking monster. It kind of reminded me of a Griffin. It has a lion head with a flying dragon body. Oh, and it breathes fire, yea its pretty cool. That was the final armor set I went with because I liked the way it looked and I enjoyed fighting it.

Personally, for me, I put in over 70 hours in one week and I think I’m good. I have had a blast playing this game but now I’m starting to get that itchy feeling like its time to move on and try something new. But this is a game that I highly recommend for everyone, give this game a try and I’m willing to bet you will get your money’s worth.

Patches buff and nerf weapons to insufficient extend where ppl still wont want to use garbage weapons. And worst of all, the way Capcom intend players to grind out jewels is almost predatory to keep the exponentially declining player base from becoming zero, where you are lucky if you got a second attack jewel within 500 hours of gameplay. Its just a glorified HD remake of the same old formula, where devs still dont know how to balance out AI and kept a lot of the useless frustrating element of the old game in (stand up dizziness, tremor, pinned down, etc). It is definitely easier to platinum the game compared to older series, but for $80 it is not worth to buy a HD remake of old MH with less monsters and content. AND FIX YOUR TRASH SERVER CAPCOM. 1) The premise of an open world, with a download size of a little over 14GB on PS4, almost around the size of an arcade fighting game, so obvious was the warning that no, there's no open world design here, it's a lot of back tracking and invisible walls and physical limitations, it's a false promise right there.

    2) Menus. If none of the game's challenges require one to skim through its mechanics, then they needn't be there! More so there's a newspaper worth of explaining that the developers take leisure to simply shove in the players' face before one even realizes why they're there.

    3) Oversimplifying. AI isn't really as well developed or "intelligent" as we hope to see it in this game, so the more complicated the game mechanics are, the more versatile an enemy AI seems, but given the tools available to the enemy AI as is, I fail to see how anyone can illude the player with the enemy's toolkit, it feels almost retarded and doesn't warrant of me any more than the mindless whaling of a 3 year old against the buttons of the controller to dish out combos or beat a certain "boss" fight.

The fight style, looks cool! I was taken aback by how awesome my move set was, with any weapon of choice, couple that with amazing graphics and stellar sound that marks my every jump or slash and I almost felt dazzled, but when I actually played the game, none of it made a difference, it's a button masher, positioning is made irrelevant by how easy it is to heal or escape a boss, and the enemies don't have the capacity to react to any move of my choosing, no more than running around or plainly attacking, so they're flat in a sense.

The whole game is rubbish, perhaps the most remarkably over-hyped piece of rubbish in the history of gaming.

I could forgive this game if it had the size, or the story, or even had as interesting a level up system as an MMO RPG, which this game shamelessly tries to be one, but there's no challenge nor reward to be had in it.

Monster Hunter World can be a bit repetitive at times, but what RPG isn't? It's a fun game and the most fun I've had with a co-op game since Left 4 Dead 2. Gameplay
The main and only course. I know games tend to be more wholesome, but this is not one of those game. The fun comes from doing one thing very well and that's fighting monsters. I'll be breaking down what I think about the gameplay and how the online attribute compliments it.

The weapon mechanics are impressive to my eyes. They are very unique from each other making fighting a monster with a different weapon feel completely different as well. I say they have depth because they take a while to master as stronger monsters make you doubt if you've really mastered your weapon and even when you've beat every single monster, you'll find that there are better and more efficient ways to fight. The skill cap for the weapons may vary, but all really reach for the sky. The people who made these weapons really outdid themselves.

The monster's AI and depth are decent. After a while playing, you'll be able to read monster's movements and fighting them become a bit stale. They tried to put in a more dynamic system but you'll know exactly where monsters spawn and how they act very fast. You'll also reach a certain point where the monsters under a certain threshold are not fun to fight because they lack any challenge. There are level types like high rank and tempered monsters that make you stay on your toes with a good challenge, but after 800 hours, you'll hit the ceiling pretty hard. But that's a lot of hours so I can't criticize that ceiling too much. I do remember the time it took for me to understand how monsters fight and I enjoyed it.

The game is immersive, but everything is going to feel the same pretty fast. It's a lovely environment and when the hectic hunt stops, you can appreciate the concept behind it. But it's not comparable to nature which it tried to replicate.

    Online
I want to dedicate this part to how online improved or failed to improve Monster Hunter World. About a year passed and I think in general it worked well. Still too early to see how things are gonna play out but it feels like a good direction.

There has only been one major weapon balance update. Since you're not fighting against other people, I don't think it's too necessary but I like how the devs pay attention to balance. Kudos.

At first, going online with your friends or just staying online was really shaky. You'd lose connection and find yourself fighting alone or just randomly disconnect from a session. It improved now and I haven't had that happen in a while. Good stability.

Three new monsters have been added to the game, free too I should add. One looks like just a variation from a different monster but once you fight it, you'll find them different enough to think of them differently. Good stuff.

There are rotating event quests and giant game events so it's nice to see the seasons pass to keep things enjoyable. I wish there was a little more though. And the creativity behind the event quest are kind of lacking. Although, Arch Temper Monsters were introduced that gives a better challenge. Could be better but not bad.

The people you meet are fine. I don't think there's actually a way to be toxic though. Almost everyone you meet have their mic receiver off. Family friendly here, I guess.

Playing with people is entertaining. I gotta say, it's fun hunting with people and it helps with the game's longevity, can't say I've met every type of player out there. This extra dynamic of co-op keeps the gameplay fresh.

That's it folks. Is there a story? Sure, not something worth mentioning though. Is there anything else to do besides hunt monsters? Well yeah, but warping back and forth to catch a giant fish isn't exactly great. This game is fun because there is a steep progression line, but I will admit, mindless grind is a better word for it at times. Is there a lot of content? Quite a bit, and quite a lot to do if you have the heart for it. That's about it, you fight monsters, build weapons and armors off them, then fight bigger badder monsters. It does this very well and I had tons of fun. Sure there is still room for improvement, particularly with the monster's depth, but I don't regret the time I've spent in this game and would recommend this game.

Allow me a comparison to demonstrate my point. I think Horizon Zero Dawn is what MHW wishes it could be. HZD makes hunting, crafting and traversing the wilderness a real pleasure, whilst MH turns it into a repetitive chore. Getting the materials you need to upgrade your weapons is far too cumbersome and monotonous.

Monsters take far too long to go down, and having them run away to lick their wounds is a nice touch of realism, but it makes for a drawn-out feeling whilst playing the game.

The combat mechanics are also dated and slow. The MH community try to excuse this by saying the game has a steep learning curve and is catered to hardcore players, but I think that's rubbish. The game is simply far too robotic and uses dated mechanics.

Graphics are pretty good, but I don't care much in that regard.

I don't mind grinding in an RPG, provided it's an enjoyable grind. A lot of this is not enjoyable. Quite often I'm not filled with the excitement that should come with the prospect of taking on the same monster again.

The layout of menus also take a lot of getting used to, and I think they could have been executed in a much neater and concise manner.

My biggest gripe with this game is that it's clearly aimed at multiplayer, and many quests seem to have been designed under the assumption that multiple characters would be working together. People are lauding this game for not having microtransactions, but to play multiplayer I'm told I need PS+, which involves a monthly subscription on top of the £40 I paid for this game. That is simply not good enough, and microtransactions should not be in a game anyway, so we should not be thanking developers for leaving them out when they shouldn't be in the game in the first place.

I'm going to play the game as much as I can, but I feel my patience is being tested and it may be on the shelf of my nearest CeX soon. If you have never played Monster Hunter OR Horizon Zero Dawn, get the latter instead. Even you are desperate for an RPG experience, there are plenty of other RPGs at a much cheaper price. Get this when the price is £20 or below.

The customizing and crafting seems like it would be effective which would be needed for this game, I don't think this game stands up well for any fan base not already initiated and not something I would pay more then 10 dollars at a local disc replay store. Visually the game is pretty well done graphics are not, I consider visuals to be for example, the beauty in this game and graphics to be things like your boot dissipearing into the dirt or voice and mouths not being matched up. Might not be exactly right but I don't claim to be a pro. I will say that I am automatically not going to like a game that is shallow in characters and story so that should be considered if anyone reads this review.

Loot is completely random, which is fine until you face the same boss 40 times trying to get a single, uncraftable item you need to complete your weapon's upgrade tree. Each weapon upgrade is meaningless unless you're at the highest rank. I do recommend you try the game if you're into grind fests. Expand

Sometimes i just dont get JRPG's they put a ton of mechanics outdated graphics and in some JRPG's the story is bad(like this game for example)(and lets not talk about the lip synce and the bad cut scenes) . But were here for the multiplayer are we ?.. right? well here comes the fun part, if you have friends this game for multiplayer is better than destiny 2, you have a ton to do and you can even invite other people to play with you via SOS flare or just joining other peoples quests. Overall this game is a 7 because of the poor design and outdated gameplay that mad me uninstall it i wish i could get a refund via PSN because its not worth my money and time the most awful part are the tutorials there are a ton and its like reading history books and it just makes the game boring AF !!!! and a ton of recycled elements in it. For example in the main storyline you must fight a beast that can take out all you helath even with max armoer/bonuses in a few hits...............oh wait, by the way the entire area is coveedr in poison which cuts your health in half, and btw even if you went back and hunted multiple preovious creatures to get the best defense and best possible elemental weapon that's its supposedly week to, you still get destroyed. Even though ites 4 times as big as you itm oves 3 times as fast, on top or the poison that you aren't allowed to conteract..;.ven though you have the matires, you just aren't allowed to cunsrut anything to stop the nonsense. Seriouslly "into the bowels of the vale' is the most poorly designed, crap, cheat "level' , I've in recent history in a game that people think is ood.

Forget about anything that a modern game has had for the last 15 years like auto -lock on target, you will miss constantly because the games controlse are irresponseive and hard to conttorl, and you cant correct an inch once youre started to swing.

Its not that its mimic realism, its simi;y puttiing tin absurdly unrealistic controls that aren't fair to create a "challenge". Unfrotunately this game puts in quests where skill and preparation don't matter. In some case that matters, but a lot of the time You either get lucky, another larger creature jumps in with an unresitalbe stun and then the first creature kills you befoe you do anyting. Assuming that ther fist creature doesnt' choose to simply spam its multiple roar/stun attacks, that leave you totally vulerable. Which, BTW it can do as often it wants to. tWorst of all EVERYTHING in the gam is subject to arbitrary time limits. This is total crap and stupid given that evven with a few levels o.f research you can spend all of the time limit even finding the trail of the creature your hunting.
There are a bunch of easy changes to actually make the game something resembiling fair iinstead or arbitrarily forcing players to get lucky to advance the story or post game progress.

Streamlining is what a businessman says when he means "we made it a lot easier to appeal to the casual market." MHW barely added anything that genuinely helped the formula, and removed FAR MORE than it gave and it's easily the worst installment to date, even maybe beating out the MMO.
I do like that they added the drops, drop rates and damage stats in game but it's not worth the casualized hunting and tracking mechanics. Not to mention they've basically buffed most weapons to the point that it genuinely doesn't matter if you're good with them or not. They sped up the combat significantly and now it feels less like you're wielding a giant 100 pound sword and more like you're swinging your big anime stick. the only outright positive thing I can say about the combat additions is the new mounting mechanic but even then it's made even MORE overpowered. If that wasn't bad enough they gave the glaive an infinite air combo making mounting even easier.
The new inventory changes are all pointless and the only thing about the new item systems I like are the item wheels and the quick crafting. The new crafting recipes are worse. They now allow you to walk while using items as well though they did try to balance it but its still not very MH. 90% of the monsters don't attack on sight unless previously provoked. no monster requires preparation anymore I'm kinda glad they didn't include g rank just because of how terribly they've balanced low and high rank. Gathering spots are everywhere and automatically refill, you could easily go out on a hunt with literally nothing in your inventory and come back with a successful mission and a full inventory of mega potions and whatever else you need, you know those things older games made you work for? There's no punishment. There's just no risk. There's just no fun.
Then there's the story. Voice acting was something MH was best off taking the minimalist approach, now they have full UNSKIPPABLE cutscenes. It was bad enough in past MH games where they had the obligatory excuse plot but you could still button mash through the story bits. Now you cant.
The slingshot was an okay addition but its implementation just feels hand holdy. You don't need to craft any ammo for it outside of dung and screamers, the monsters drop ammo that they're weak to, which is dumb. then there's the open world concept which could have been great but its implementation was just awful. The first map feels needlessly big. You could easily split it up into two and nothing would be lost. The sand area is fine but it feels half used. All the monsters stick to the same areas. However they ruin all the areas with multiple start camps and quick travel making the random spawn on HR quests a minor inconvenience at worst. I can think of so many ways to make both these mechanics leagues better and fit into the MH style of game without caving into the casual AAA way of doing it. Then there's the way equipment works now which is just garbage. No gunner armor. Skills being instantly granted by **** armor pieces and not through the efforts of minmaxing. It feels like someone who never played MH before came in and **** that his +1 attack gem didn't actually give a +1 to attack without understanding how the skill mechanics worked at all. The cloaks? Utterly useless.
MHW just feels like MH for people who don't like MH. It used to be fun, clunkiness was something that fans loved, but now it's all flash and "woah" and instant gratification and it's really just **** boring now good thing the game's content is **** abysmal because I got bored of it so fast. And all the paid DLC doesn't really give me hope for the future content updates.
I really don't mind other consoles getting it, especially if it one day means cross platform and cross region play, but if MHW is how it's going to be then I wish it died with XX. which was also incredibly easy but it at least retained the spirit of MH. There's more but I'm low on characters here.

Here's what MHW did good: Monster info in game, expeditions, Item and equipment, crafting conveniences, and The item wheel

Everything else was either a huge dump on the series or a pointless change. I pray portable 5th returns the series to its roots because MHW is just a mediocre joyless game. If I wasn't such a huge fan of the series I'd probably rate it 5 or 6/10 but I feel it deserves lower than that. I can't even recommend it to casuals as a jumping off point into the series because barely any of the mechanics translate well, I can at least recommend generations and XX still. But if they want to move onto the better installments like FU, 3G, P3rd, or 4U/G then they're going to have a bad time.

We are welcomed back with the largest and most detailed maps, new, more complex attack patterns for monsters, and a quality, albeit small (at the time of this review) cast of monsters. The combat is still true to its roots Monster Hunter combat, with you fighting the animation frames almost as much as you are fighting that fire breathing T-Rex. All this means is you have to plan your attacks, and you cant just button mash your way to a victory. However, the many comparisons to the Dark Souls series are unwarranted.

The game also has a robust online multiplayer system, that does need a few QoL tweaks, but other than that, is fantastic.

My only true complaints with the game are the timed event quests, and the lack of G-Rank at the moment. Timed Event Quests, while fun for the daily player, are often harder to access for the players who have other obligations (work, family, kids, etc.) G-Rank will hopefully be coming in the near future with either a free or paid DLC expansion to add the true MH experience.

First of all, the game has 0 story, 0 character charisma, zero point. What you are asked to do from day one is: "Go there, kill that monster, then come back so I could send you to another place to kill another monster" - that is it. If you are looking for at least bearable tale, run away.

Next: the fighting mechanism is terrible. My expectations might have been a little too high because I started playing this game after God of War 3: Remastered, God of War (2018), DmC: Devil May Cry and oh boy the fights on Monster Hunter look so slow, wobbly, shaky. The mechanics are just terrible (just look how the character climbs mountains - its more like a joke than a decent attempt to make it look good). I don't expect much, but hey, the guy looks like he is having a seizure!

The chasing part: If you have at least some masochistic ideas, then Monster Hunter: World is the thing you need in your life - ultimate satisfaction. How can you not love attacking a monster for 5 minutes only to see it fly away... Then you run! You run out of stamina and look more like a poor weakling who never ate the food his mom gave him and ended up failing every 50 meter run. Then you reach the monster you were chasing, then you attack him for 5 minutes, then he flees again. This time to the claws of a big dragon which kills you in 1 hit. Now you run from spawn point... Rinse and repeat - fun stuff I'd say. So I guess it should be called: "Usain Very-Tired-Bolt Simulator: World".

If you want more good news about being able to punish yourself for all the sins you have committed so that Lord would spare your poor soul, then there are some: you will be able to do this for hundreds of hours! All those annoying chases, all that annoying tracing, all the killing the same (SAME) monster tens and tens of time - YES, you can do that!

I have to admit that I am a fan of grinding, upgrading, crafting. I have ~700 hours in Warframe and I still pick it up because its fun, smooth, beautiful (sadly not intense and hard enough). But THIS game is a horror that even my worst enemies should not experience.

So my verdict would be: stay away unless you have friends to laugh with and make it fun to play. The only thing that can save this game is your friends. If not, I FORBID you to play it - you will thank me.

From your first monster hunt of the Great Jagras, to the dreaded Nergigante, there are a lot of things to look forward to when playing this entry. It is one of the most accessible Monster Hunter game to date with many tutorials on gathering, hunting, weapon controls, and more. The world feels much more realistic and many of the old monsters from past games got their moves reworked to feel more fluid and looking like an actual creature rather than just acting like a robotic homing missile, though there are still some monsters that tend to do that. Armor skills and sets are now completely customizable. No longer do you need to get a full armor set to activate skills which is a great thing. Gathering is much easier and quicker with the new scout flies highlighting areas that you can gather and also track down monsters. Movement is much better and you have more freedom and feel less restricted. All weapons you wield will allow you to dodge in all four directions. Forward, back, left, and right. The biggest changer is being able to dodge backwards since in previous titles only the gunlance and lance were able to dodge backwards, however those weapons won't allow you to dodge forward. In World you have that ability to step forward while blocking with lance and gunlance. You can also move around while drinking potions, eating ration, and even well-done steaks. These are all very nice changes, but what about the combat? The previous Monster Hunter game that made combat incredibly fun was Monster Hunter Gen/XX. Well there are no hunter arts around World. At first I was kind of sad to hear that, but after playing it really did not matter. Combat is really fun and every weapon feels powerful. I use every weapon and never found one a did not like. Lance having the ability to have the power guard after using counter guarding. Dual blades down slopes doing the LEVI! Great sword having 3 charge slashes with the last one being immensely powerful. Sword and shield having the ability to mount, change your direction when swinging your blade, and use items without having to sheath. Gunlance dishing out even more damage with exploding bayonet. Bowgun and heavy bowgun having special ammo and the ability to move while firing shots. Bow and arrow with dragon piercer and improved rapid fire shots. Longsword with more options on your sword swings. Hammer with the ability to charge up your attacks and absorb it to do more damage and flinch less. Insect glaive with more aerial attacks like being able to dodge in midair and a much more refined kinsect upgrade mechanic that is much less time consuming. Charge blade with phial charge that runs out over time rather than one usage and the ability to charge up the sword for some extra elemental or impact damage. I have said a lot of good things, but there are definitely flaws. The story isn't that interesting and not that memorable. I only listened to the Japanese voice, but I have heard that the English voice acting was pretty funny to listen to, especially the commander which sounds like he yells all the gosh darn time. You also can get any help during story mode only after you have seen the cutscene or met certain requirements. The upgrade system can be a chore and money consuming. Previous games allowed you to get the weapon you wanted from that monster you played. In this game it is now in trees which means if you want to get let's say, Bazelguase switch axe, you need to go through part of the iron tree, then the Tzitzi, and then the Bazelguase. There were some weapons in previous game that required you to do this, but it wasn't many. The gathering hub is also kind of a let down. Rarely anyone shows up there and there are reasons as to why, the biggest one being that the many of the important things you want to do say the smithy and upgrade weapons is not there. Load times are quite long when switching from the gathering hub to HQ for those who use standard PS4 and not the Pro version. It also makes doing Arena quests harder since no is there around the gathering hub and Arena quests can only be done at the gathering hub. The only reason there are now more people at the Gathering Hub is because of Kulve Taroth. Camera can sometimes be an issue and the lock on does an okay job at best, but it can be disorienting at times when monsters move around very quickly and the bigger ones in closed areas just makes the camera even worse. The mounting is sometimes inconsistent as well. There will be times when you deal the finishing blow and taking it down, other times you can do it twice, other times you cannot do the final blow and just stab it to submission, and others when you are thrown off completely for no reason. Monster Hunter World is an amazing game and if you are new to the series, this is probably the best entry to play. Expand

I guess the game's main weak point is storytelling, but I've heard that it never was MH's strong suit anyway. Don't get me wrong, there's a lot of lore and story in the game, it's just basically weak in my opinion. Another thing I kind of got disappointed was the lack of inspired weapon design. Seriously, a pair of clubs for dual BLADES? Aside from that, majority of the designs are actually the same but they just tacked in some weird monster part or something. Nonetheless, the game's strength's far outweigh the game's weakness.

To cut it short, here's the pros/ cons of the game:

    Pros:
    - High replay value
    - No loot boxes or pay to win systems
    - 14 weapons (aka playstyle) to choose from.
    - Breathtaking monsters & a beautiful "New World".

    Cons:
    - Weak story
    - Lack of variety in terms of weapon design/ uninspired weapon designs.

This definitely my favorite poster hunter game since 4 Ultimate and is a masterpiece with some network kinks there and there

However, I must say that this game is a long-term investment in gameplay time. Although it is a lot easier to not have to grind for things, It is something you ill have to do in order to achieve the state/acquire the equipment that you want, but the game is so engaging, It doesn't really feel like grinding. The series originally started on PS2 and has moved on to other consoles while mostly retaining it's look and play-style. With MHW the graphics are for the first time upgraded giving a new look to the game. New mechanics are introduced, movesets are upgraded from previous games, and the game is updated for a more modern system.

    Story

The game now actually has a story and while not necessarily a deep story it is certainly a start compared at previous games which had almost no story. The game has cinematic cut-scenes that showcase the monsters right before you start fighting them for the first time.

    Gameplay

Combat is very different from many games which might initially put off players that are used to instantly responsive controls, dark souls games, or other action games. It might feel initially clunky as you get used to the combat. Some weapons are very slow and once you have pressed the button to attack there is no cancelling the attack. Every button press is a done deal and if you spam your way through it then you will be punished. There is no lock-on and you must aim all attacks in relation to where your character is facing. Each weapon has a varied moveset that must be practiced before one can finally start feeling comfortable with the weapon. At the beginning it feels weird but once you get the hang of it it's the best feeling ever.

Mastering your weapon and predicting the moveset of the monster go hand in hand. Each monster has a specific tell that will give you insight at what kind of attack is going to perform. This expands to it's health as there is no health bar in Monster Hunter. The developers behind this game want you to use visual signs of a monster to predict it's health. If there are scars on it's body, if he starts getting tired and having trouble attacking, and if he starts limping trying to get some sleep are all actions that can use to determine the various stages of health left.

Each monster has elemental weaknesses, weak spots, and specific strategies that can be employed to optimally deal damage to the monster. Some monsters are weaker to being stunned, paralyzed, poisoned, etc. Knowing your prey is the key towards being effective. To help you in your endeavor the game comes with a monster guide/encyclopedia that fills up with relevant info as you investigate the monster by examining their footprints or by slaying/capturing a monster. The hunter has access to traps, darts, tools, and other items that can maximize their performance on the hunt.

The true point of this game is of course loot grinding. It's a cycle of beating a monster to obtain more powerful armor and weapons to challenge stronger monsters to then repeat the cycle. There are a great degree of weapons and armor available that can completely change how you play the game. Different parts of armors activate special skills that can make you hit harder, perform critical attacks, sharpen your weapon faster, increase your health bar, etc. Building armor configurations to fit your play-style is some of the things that make this game great.

The game is designed on a quest-based/mission based manner in which you are given an objective. The most common objective is slaying or capturing a particular monster. By fulfilling the quest you receive quest rewards. If hunting a particular monster then the quest rewards are usually parts from the monster. These parts can be used to craft new armors, weapons, and other items.

    Multiplayer

Monster Hunter has always been a multiplayer game starting all the way from PS2 when Online multiplayer was still beginning on PlayStation. Monster Hunter World supports cooperative multiplayer with up to 4 players. The monster health is scaled between one player and four players. The lobby rooms support up to 16 players. There are squad/guilds and you can also invite players via friend list.

    Conclusion
MHW is a game that provides countless hours of entertainment. It is a fun game with a lot of different playstyles. Capcom has made it clear that they will continue to add new content for free while only charging for cosmetic stickers and gestures. While the game has some few mechanical flaws they not detract from the overall experience. While I believe the game isn't a 10 and instead a 9.2, some reviewers have been extremely harsh and inaccurate. As such I'll round off my review to a 10.

If you are the a player that enjoys loot based combat with friends and don't mind learning the different gameplay then you will surelly enjoy this game. Give it a try. I'm sure most of you will enjoy it.

Great game with almost unlimited content. Lots of hours of joy even if you only go straight for the "history" missions. It's true it doesn't have as many monsters as other MH games but it has enough to make you play for (in my case) 95 hours. Furthermore, it will be receiving more and more content in the future so I will probably come back and play it more someday soon.

It may have been because I do believe there is potential here for a really gripping game but it just falls short in my opinion. It may have been because I do believe there is potential here for a really gripping game but it just falls short in my opinion. I've put maybe 30 hours into this game and sadly I came away unimpressed.

The good first; its a beautiful game to look at. The worlds are sprawling, dense and lively. It really does feel like it's own little ecosystem and there is so much to see and discover. Every zone is just as good as the last and it is clear they put effort into building a game world. Graphically it is stunning. From the hub world to the monsters it really does look very, very good.

The monsters are designed wonderfully and are quite diverse. There are a whole host of dragons, rock monsters, sea creatures and they all live together in the zones independent of one another. This leads to some jaw dropping moments when you might be hunting one monster only to find you both stumble across the path of another. A huge battle between two giants then occurs and it gets quite thrilling at times.

Special mention is required also for the sound design, the soundtrack is fitting and well done and it scores these battles with these fearsome creatures all too well.

Unfortunately the rest of it fell flat for me and my biggest disappointment and the biggest thing hindering this from being a truly great game is the combat system. No matter which weapon I tinkered with I never felt truly engaged with the combat, it feels clunky. Your lock on will disappear at random. You have to un-sheath your weapon at the most inopportune moments. Everything just seems to take that half second too long to feel engaging. I read a review that claimed this was "Dark Souls meets Jurassic Park" and that was my "shut up and take my money" moment but the combat system is way short of those games and frankly quite a few others as well. This was a crying shame to me because you are presented with this lush world with interesting things to hunt but the hunting itself is unresponsive and quite dull. It really amounts to, if not quite a button bash a very repetitive exercise.

Which leads me to my other issue, the monsters as wonderful as they look never really get much beyond mildly difficult. If you've played Souls games then it'll seem like childs play. Any serious attack they mount is usually telegraphed to high heaven which is handy because the evasion side of the combat system has the same struggles as the attacking side of things. More irritatingly the battles can take an age. I have no issue with that, it adds to the epicness and so on but the length is usually attributed to the fact the monster runs off after you've hit it for enough damage, then you chase it, attack it some more and the cycle repeats until finally it dies. There is a sense of elation when finishing a battle which is quite good but often its more of a "thank god thats over" than "that was awesome!". There are ways to stop them running but like most things in the game it isn't made very clear or obvious.

For all the talk you'll have read of this being the most accessible game in the series yet I can only wonder how obscure the previous games were. There are some middling tutorials but there are swathes of the game that are inadequately explained or not explained at all. I'm all for a game not holding your hand but you shouldn't need to be playing alongside a wiki guide to get the most from it.

The voice acting is awful. Even for a JRPG it is corny, stilted and gave me absolutely zero interaction or relationship with the characters who might as well not be there. The plot is non-existent. You're on a ship, you're a monster hunter, a monster wrecks your ship, here's the hub world, there are lots of monsters out there. Kill them all. For reasons. Honestly sometimes you just feel like an A-hole chasing down these magnificent looking creatures. Quite a few are actually quite docile before the idiot in the weird armor starts bonking them on the head. I get that the plot isn't necessarily what this game is about but really some effort should be put forth to give us a reason to go out and hunt these things. The missions are nearly all related to going out and hunting and the reasons never get much past "they're in our way".

Thus the game basically becomes "hunt this monster to get materials to make this loot" and it doesn't try to hide it either. That is really the whole premise. I'd be down for that, so down for that if the combat were better and you gave me even a hint of purpose for doing so. They have this huge world but without a story it feels pointless, empty. It's a grind with the carrot at the end of the stick constantly regenerating

I wanted to like this but to a new player of the series its just an average game that could have been so much more

Comparing to the stories in the Division and Destiny, the silly story in MHW is much better.
There are, however, and of course, features that can be improved. Art work of weapons in this game is lazy comparing to previous games. Most of the weapons are made too realistic for a monster hunter game, and end up being ugly and boring. Gathering hub is completely ignorable due to the unfriendly loading screen and automatic commute back to base, until they fixed part of this issue recently. Also, continuing update of content is crucial to a grind game, as players lose their interest after two months of hunting the same kind of monsters in the same maps day after day.
This game is not in fact comparable with Dark Souls and Bloodborne as some people think it is. It's all about hunting and crafting, and becoming good with different type of weapons and builds during the process. Be sure if that is what you are looking for and you will love it.

This game takes some elements of those games and could have been so great except for two major issues: 1. The combat is awful.

This game takes some elements of those games and could have been so great except for two major issues:

    1. The combat is awful. There's virtually no skill or strategy and the animations are so robotic. It was fine at first but then you quickly realise you are spamming the same buttons over and over and over.

    2. The way the monster fights progress is boring. Hit the monster until it flees, chase it across the map for 5 minutes, hit it again. Repeat about 3-4 times and you win. It's just so tedious and again, at first it's fine but it gets old after several hours.

It has so many good qualities, I love the way the game progresses with lots of things to collect and do but ultimately the process to get through the game is ruined by the issues I've written above.

I would actually rate the game more like 6/10 but because of all the ridiculous 10's I wanted to balance it out slightly.

The setting is wonderful, the premise genius and the depth... well, it's quite unreal how many things you can and pretty much have to master to get the most out of the game.

... but that's also the problem. See, this is very, very hard to come into as a newcomer, which I myself am. The combat system is so heavy and unintuitive - not BAD as such, but incredibly difficult to just pick up and play (even spending hours in the combat training area and I still barely felt competent). Nothing is explained well, with the overall feeling being that this game is a love letter to those who have played prior titles on the 3DS and beyond, because it barely explains anything to you, both in terms of story and mechanics. I'm not a rookie gamer either - but even for me it's just... inaccessible is the word.

The cut scenes suck (lip syncing here... well, they haven't even tried), the story (from what I've seen) is bland and not a focus and there's performance niggles even on a PS4 Pro. They are the only negatives I have.

You don't have to enjoy good art to appreciate that it is good art. That's the position I'm in here. Hopefully one day I'll pick it up to play and it'll click - until then, as a purchase recommendation I'd say try before you buy, but be prepared to be either blown away or very frustrated by what you find.

At first, the controls can be intimidating. They seem a bit complicated and mixing that with the fast-paced gameplay of MH might scare some players off, but it just takes a little bit of time and practice to master. The Handler is... one of the worst/most annoying characters in gaming history (in my opinion) - she's always trying to get herself killed. Online trolls, as with any other game, will try to ruin the experience, but luckily devs are looking into ways to prevent this.

The result is that I don't get help with anything around the house anymore - I can be walking by clearly struggling to carry something or do something, but he can't leave that couch because he is battling a monster, and that is clearly more important than helping his wife. We were having my parents come for a visit for my mom's birthday, but he couldn't get off the couch to even say hello to his in-laws (that we only get to see every couple of months) when they arrived. Why? Oh, he was battling a monster. If you are in a committed relationship that you care about and that you prioritize, please think about how you will use this game. Plan to play only at times when you know you will be able to play uninterrupted and when there aren't other people counting on you to be a supportive partner in running a household. Don't plan on spending the entire weekend playing it while your partner does all the household work unassisted. It will lead to major resentment and tension. FUN: The graphics are good - scenery is varied and beautiful and definitely adds to the enjoyment of the game, though screenshots on my Pro show up the poor resolution. The monsters are pretty cool and well animated and in some cases spectacular. The sound/music is good enough. The variety of weapons, armour and their upgrade systems offer a lot of scope and I enjoyed the process of diving in and getting my head round them. Really enjoyed trying out different weapons and the diversity of game play style they offer. Playing co-op worked okay once I worked out the (admittedly annoying) steps required. Low tier monsters were challenging enough to be fun but manageable until the Anjanath hunt. Got my butt kicked many times (alone & co-op). Eventually an experienced MH & higher level friend helped me out and once I got some better gear I was able to progress without insurmountable difficulty, though the fun/frustration balance was steadily tipping in the wrong direction.

Arena fights make a welcome change out. I have seen other reviewers make a distinction between 'capture' quests and hunts but really they're all hunts, there's not enough difference to count them as a different activity. Side missions are 'collect things' or 'kill things' - usual fare.

    Some non 'deal breaking' annoyances:
    - As a woman playing a female character I hated the ridiculous gear sets that had my character clacking around in bulky, ugly armour over stockings, suspenders and hideous high heeled shoes. Really pervy and utterly unattractive.
    - As many have said, the lack of other players visible in Astera is disappointing. Hardly anyone uses the Hub which is totally redundant.
    - Having to go through 2-3 lines of dialogue every time you interact with many of the vendors is a total yawn. In fact, the whole game feels bogged down with animations that may have been amusing the first few times (eating at the canteen springs to mind) but end up just being tedious, or in the case of sharpening your weapon, drinking potion etc in combat can get you killed when the monster decides to teleport from the other side of the area and land on you the second you start the animation,
    - not being able to see the full upgrade paths at first, especially given how much effort you have to invest in moving along a given path. I relied on the internet for this and a lot of other necessary information for this game which does detract from immersion
    - I got lost fairly often on hunts because of the verticality. The monster would suddenly relocate several times during in each hunt, which is a feature that I didn't mind except that too often the flying monsters would go to across the map, the scout flies would lose the trail and although I could see the monster on the map, getting there was like finding your way through a maze.
    - the story...what story?....it's minimal and entirely unaffecting,
    - the characters also are very minimal - I didn't care about any of them, including my own character
    - clipping through monsters, standing inside them even. Bizarre effect and not good enough for current standards

    DEAL BREAKING FRUSTRATIONS (for me):
Although I invested a fair bit of time in this game and did enjoy it up to a point, the level of grind and effort involved just wore me down in the end. I'm okay with grindy games (have played the Destiny & The Division for hundreds of hours) but the fact that each and every monster hunt is like a Big Boss fight, particularly once you're in the high tier, made it feel too much like hard work. Too often there would be one item that I needed to complete the weapon upgrade or craft the piece of armour I needed that would have something like a 1% drop rate that would require grinding that same monster for hours...& hours....& hours. The tedium of that is very much compounded by the game mechanic that you have 3 faints allowed per hunt for the whole team, so many MANY hunts would end, sometimes after 45+ minutes of huge effort, with absolutely nothing to show for it and very much stretching out the length of grind required to get that elusive drop.

I got as far as the final dragons but just ran out of steam, and interest. Fundamentally, this game is very unforgiving. I imagine that if you're playing with friends that would help tip the grind/fun balance a lot. Playing as a solo player in random teams was not so fun once it started getting really challenging.

Good game, but not a GREAT game - I can't see how it can justify all these 10's. Enjoyment is subjective, I get that, but there are some issues with this game that have to be taken into account when scoring. Grinding & difficulty level aside, it's not perfect.

There are fourteen weapons that you can bring along on your hunts like the defensive and slow lance or the fast and nimble dual blades that can suit just about any ones play style. Most people I see that complain about the game, complain about the combat being slow and clunky, if you find that's an issue just pick a different weapon or understand you cant dodge while you are in the middle of a swing with a giant sword. Many also complain about the game being to easy, and while it is the easiest in the series, it picks up fast around the time you fight the anjanath, a fire breathing t-rex. Yet still, the game is not for everyone. Do note that there will be a grind, in it you fight monsters, carve them up and make weapons and armor from their dead bodies and use them to fight harder monsters and in turn carve them too. Don't come into the game expecting a good story too, while it is somewhat passable nothing about it is note worthy except for the cut scenes you get when you meet new monsters. While I do wish more monsters had unique themes, and more of the weapons designs were a little more bold, mhw Is an amazing game that you will enjoy if you are tired of games where you just mash the attack button and want a bit of a grind.

First off this is a time consuming game, and expect to spend at least a hundred hours into for endgame / true ending. And its pacing is progressive, starting out quite slowly ( my initial hunts usually took longer than 30 mins ) and getting faster and harder the more you play it ( you eventually start doing speedruns ).

The story is just a placeholder, and isn't really good, but thats hardly the selling point / main appeal of the game. If you play games mostly for the stories and not its gameplay, than this game isn't for you.

The game is basically a huge collection of boss fights (the monster you hunt), with a LOT of harvesting and crafting mechanics in between. The monster (bosses) themselves are really varied and fun, and there are quite a lot of different weapon arquetypes (14 in total). Add all the different armor bonuses, and you have a gigantic amount of possible build combinations to fight each monster.

The combat takes some time to get used to, since usually both the direction and animation time can't be changed/canceled after you do an attack. So you have to pay close attention to the monster's animations to figure out your next move. Do you need to dodge, guard or counter attack? Do you have time for a slow but high damaging combo, or just a few fast attacks? I would recommend not switching weapons too much at the beginning. Just go with the one you like the most, and GET GUD with it before switching it out.

The multiplayer option is kinda of hit or miss. While there isn't any technical problem with it, I find it very frustating that the respawn stock is shared by all players. This means if someone dies too many times, the quest fails for everyone else as well. The good thing tho, is that you can play the entire game Solo if you so desire. However playing with a friend or good players is a total blast, and I haven't played such a fun co-op game mode since Mass Effect 3.

The crafting mechanic, which is quite a lot of the meat of the game is very fun and well polished. It makes it very easy to understand which enemies you have to kill in order to obtain what you want, And while there is some RNG when getting the mission rewards, the drop rate is high enought that you never feel cheated or bored from doing the same thing over and over.

In regards to its longevity, every week there are new events with special loot and new monster will be added for free, and if you want try out every possible weapon/armor combination expect to keep playing it for the rest of your life.

The biggest flaw that I see in it, is that a lot of tihngs go unexplained in the game. What does elderseal do? What does this skill actually do? What can a lot of the items be used for? How to use a given weapon? And so on.

So overall, if you like hard boss fights, have a lot of time to spare, and like to do character/build optimization, then go ahead and play this game, you will love it! However if none of those are of interest to you, you are better off playing something else.

Monster Hunter is the definition of "pride and accomplishment" when you capture or slay a monster. However, the series seems to be in its shadow because not a lot of people have ever heard or talked about Monster Hunter. As time went by, the developers tried its hardest to get people to notice the series, but it never worked since their launch with Nintendo. They released one of their series on the Wii U and 3DS for Westerners to try, but it did not succeed as the developer hoped for because not a lot of people were talking about it. Jump into 2017, and the developers took a great big step forward to reveal the new Monster Hunter World to the current gen consoles and it finally got the audience’s attention. If you love grinding with no money grabbing practices, then this is the game for you.

60 hours into the game which makes it eligible for me to write this review. I will sort out different sections about gameplay, story, and visual. In that case, here is my review of Monster Hunter World.

Gameplay: While playing Monster Hunter World, I think the developers did a great job throwing in-depth tutorial screens because there will be players who are new to the franchise by explaining how to play, craft, progress, and upgrade. I must give props to Monster Hunter by releasing YouTube videos and explaining each of the different weapon types before release. In addition, to letting players have access and test out all the different weapon types at the training room that includes combo instructions. I was impressed with all the weapon types because they are all unique in their own way. The crafting system is simple and not overwhelming. I liked Palicoe AI system to be as your sidekick. I personally like the different kinds of gadgets they have to help you on the hunt, but sometimes they don’t respond if you want to manually activate their gadget, so the majority of the time you’ll be spamming to activate it. Monster Hunter World also allows you to go on an expedition, which makes the player explore around and fight monsters with no time limit. The online session is responsive. In addition, you could also have the option to enjoy the game in solo mode. If internet connection not your thing, then you could play it offline. Is it fun playing alone? Of course! Is it fun playing online with friends? Absolutely! Mounting a monster always satisfies me.

Story: There was only one minor flaw that I would address, but that shouldn't be a big deal which is the lip syncing during a cutscene. Overall, the story is a bit engaging at least for me. I will not spoil the game for you if you want to be surprised by every monster you encounter, but I will say that I personally enjoy all cutscenes that I came across because the majority of them just makes your character look like a badass.

Visual: The atmosphere and the environment are just gorgeous. I was stunned by the beautiful ecosystem and looking at what's around me. Everyone at the hub area matters and they have their own personalities. You will enjoy every cutscene you encounter because the majority of them just makes your character look like a badass. I personally cannot get enough on how adorable the Palicoes are. You too will adore them once you take them out on a quest or an expedition. In addition, the Canteen cutscene is just enjoyable to see as you watch the Palicoes cook you a big meal before your hunt. Note: You will constantly be visiting to the Canteen before your hunt because for new players it is a way to upgrade your stats.

Conclusion: This game deserves a 9/10. It would’ve been a perfect 10 if they made a more compelling story, but I enjoyed playing this game. It can be complex but that should never be a reason why players hate the game. The only thing newcomers should hate or complain about is the repetitiveness, the constant chases, and the combat. If those are the reasons, then I assure you that is not the case. Don't expect it to be like Dark Souls or Bloodborne because Monster Hunter handles it very differently. They may have similarities at some levels, but this is a grinding RPG game, so you are expected to be going back to the same monster to gather more material to craft better weapons, armor, or charm. If you don't like the grinding or RPG then this game is not for you. If you are interested in it and willing to put the time and effort, then this is the game for you. This is my first review and I want to thank you for your time reading this in-depth review.

Other triple AAA companies should take notes when they are making an RPG game *cough* Bungie....EA.

You might spend 15 minutes fighting a monster and then have to chase it across the map, only to have it "leave the area." Why build that into the game??? It's annoying and a waste of time. And as you're chasing it, the in game "GPS" - aka Scout Flies, just stops working so you have to keep resetting it. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Monster Hunter World : or how not to make a handheld game seem relevant on current gen consoles

I'll fully admit to knowing very little about the monster hunter series, prior to Monster Hunter World. The few things I did know was it was better know as a handheld title, was reallllllllly popular in Japan and sold more copies then then a Japanese school would selling Yaksoba bread. I'm also aware of the core idea for the game is to hunt monsters, as the title has helpfully explained.

The problems is that its mostly a handheld title. their have been titled on consoles like ps2 ,ps3, wii 360, PC and even wii u(for some reason) but it largely lives on the handheld market and for that reason, having it as the first major console port that most US gamers would play with reworked gameplay was quite the tall order.

Unfortunately, the order was mishandled and instead of getting of getting a salad, we got a salad with bird crap smeared on it. There are many things I can complain about, but i ll start with the "Story".. where you, a silent protagonist that blindly agrees to to anything your to, are supposedly part of an elite group of monster hunters and a have been send to study an elder dragon(that's less a dragon and more of a giant moving blob of lava) and help research monster that live on island and the dragon is going to be coming to.

What this actually translates as, is grabbing a weapon and killing some monsters... and that's pretty much it.. there are bits of story tossed out from time to time, but it feels more of an after thought then a core part of the game.

Most of the game is spent running at a monster that probably could give 2 **** about you and hacking and slashing at it for around 45 minutes.. not even joking.. there are plenty of weapons to use, 14 to start with, but they all pretty much involve hacking ,slashing and trying to doge out of the way of the monsters **** attack.

I say trying to dodge, because it seems like your character is thick in the head and seems to misinterpret DODGE as KEEP SLASHING. which inevitably either knocks your character down, into a stun lock or poisons them.. then you have to try and use a healing or poison curing potion as the monster gets in more free hits and even has free time to do his taxes while waiting for you to die..

and die you will .. a lot.. but you have limited numbers of times of dying before your sent back to the main village place and told to start the mission over from scratch. because Capcom are dickheads.

Even if you work out the brilliant strategy of hitting a monster no more then a few times before rolling out of the way, you 'll have to deal with them getting bored ad running/flying off.. Probably because he was as bored as I was with the same routine.

This is why the game give you 45 minute for the missions,.. because they knew they were **** and knew you'd only be able to use the method of attacking twice and dodging to defeat most monsters..

So looking beyond the barely there story and same old hack and slash combat, what is there?

Well, by killing monsters you get orbs and materials to upgrade weapons and armor.. in order to kill more monsters and get more upgrade points.. meaning the real purpose of the game is to join the cycle of continuously killing monsters, upgrading your character and repeating forever..

So what about positive things... um.. their are a great variety to the monsters, and it looks nice.. really nice.. the monster all have great animations as they fight you or other monsters and the environments all look really great with nice lighting, shadows, and effects going on. ...but looking nice has become pretty common on PS4, pc (and to a lesser degree) the xboner and switch.. I have plenty of games on my ps4 that looks great.. so looking great but doing nothing else doesn't get you a automatic oral fun time.. you need to have compelling story and gameplay to go along with it, if you want my tongue skills on display.. but Monster Hunter World is boring, repetitive and barely has a story in it.. Why would I willingly play this, when i can replay the superior Horizon Zero Dawn, Uncharted 4, The Last of Us, Little Nightmares,Yakuza, or any other game that has looks, good story and fun gameplay in them?

I didn't even mention the bare bones and basic character creation system where the female characters have fat legs and the faces look significantly downgraded in-game.

I wouldn't.. but hey, if you like boring, repetitive games, with very little story, and very little going on other then visuals, then Monster Hunter World us the game for you.. enjoy.. I guess...

Minor gripes: Compared to the 3DS and previous releases, the weapon design is a little lack luster; in previous games the long sword would have a scythe design in the upper ranks that made it very pleasing to use, this is not present here rather the game uses the art design of the previous upgrade to build upon which is realistic, yes, but this is a game where you fight dragons with big hulking weaponry. Additionally the difficulty curve from 8* quests to 9* is MASSIVE and unlike anything i have ever encountered in a Monster Hunter game.

Minor Hypes: THE SWORD AND SHIELD GOT A MASSIVE REWORK IN HOW IT PLAYS *CLAPS IN SWORD AND SHIELD

I'm very much on the fence with this game. Safe to say after some 20 hours I've put the game down to play other more interesting games.

    Firstly the good.
+You get plenty of big monsters in this game to hunt and the variety of them makes each one interesting, fun and different.

+ It seems simple enough, the game has a lot of features that focus on preparation. Most of these are pretty easy to get into and utilise and don't feel like a chore.

+ Visually the game is very pretty , with some lush environments. Each major monster is fairly distinctive visually.

+ Multiplayer works, even if the whole Matchmaker/interface is a bit of a chore. So teaming up and killing big monsters with friends is a plus.

+ there tonnes to do, beyond just killing the monsters. There is plenty of gathering, hunting and capturing quests as well as an arena and such. Which really fleshes out the game.

    Now the bad,

    - Hunting isn't as fun as the adverts. Its advertised as being a game that focus on tracking and preparation and exploiting weaknesses to maximise your effectiveness. Sadly thus far tracking and understanding monsters is basically finding tracks and spamming a button on them. you don't actually read or learn anything yourself. The game just becomes easier because you clicked on a track and gained XP.

    - While its suppose to be fun and cool to have big lengthy boss fights with varying phases and gameplay. Monster Hunter doesn't really do that.... so far most monsters I've faced run away licking there wounds and can run a lot. then you hit them once take like 1% hp off and they run some more. Dragging the fight out into a massive game of hit and run. taking ridiculous amounts of time up for no reason.

    - Controls are a bit clunky. and a lot of the weapons make combat and movement very slow.

    - gets repetitive quick

    - no fixed targeting/bad hit box means a lot of attack either miss or are hard to aim properly.

    - some tutorials are non-existent such as how to capture monsters. Which makes whole components of the game unplayable unless you either spend ages figuring it out or use a unofficial guide.

overall a 7. it does some things really well but sadly the bad outweighs the good. This seemed like my cup of tea as a video game. As I love everything from Witcher to Final Fantasy/Dark Souls/SOTC and many games from similar genres/styles. But I've lost interest which means it wasn't good enough.

There is definately fun to be had, but I cant help feeling extremely disappointed with how much a better game this could be. You never feel like you are actually hitting the creature, moreover the games collosion detection is just the worst I ve ever seen, my cape clips thorugh my own fking shield for gods sake, I can pass trough ppl, objects, monsters, rocks etc, its just horrible and absolutely unacceptable. The map design is great on the other hand, there is a lot to do with the enviroment, and there are also loads of sidecontent if you like collecting **** Gear progression is boring as well, hunting monsters and making gear from their bodyparts sounds like hell of a fun, but progression consists of flat stat bonuses and visuals, it always plays the same. Overall ,this is a great concept done poorly. Expand

This is one of those games where you either love it or hate it.
I'd recommended anyone who is planning on purchasing it to see if they can't try it somewhere before laying down the cash.

I've given the game a generous 5 due to technical issues, even when you select the preset "prefer framerate" the fps goes down the **** often, on numerous occasions it was sub 30fps.

An amazing game that will draw you in. Bit slow to start but then what mh game hasn’t been. Has got rid of the annoyances from previous games I won’t post them on here best to find them out for yourself.

Graphics are great but still manages to capture the core gameplay which makes this one very special The only thing that stops it getting a 10 from me is the confusing multiplayer I

The only thing that stops it getting a 10 from me is the confusing multiplayer I kinda get it but I feel a lot of people aren’t as it makes the hub very quiet with only a few people I have actually seen.

A very good game, but it's not the best of series. Multiplayer administration is muddler and it was better in the past, i hope capcom change it. In general i expected better from technical production because on 3ds is normal but on a ps4 pro or xbox one x i don't want watch the weapons in the ground or that i can go throught the monsters. It a good game but it could be definitely better

Interesting and good concept game. but if you play, it's nightmare. Awful control, every single movement is so slow. u have to hit button 100 times to make one move. absolutely frustrating **** And monster disappears so u never get to beat down the big monster. I mean wtf?! spend hours and hours hitting and u get nothing. this is worse than dark soul series.

Monster Hunter i waited over ten years. Maybe its too easy till post game (tempered monsters) and simplified in some ways but still great and awesome in other aspects. Living world with plenty of details, great design and and never bore gameplay. Special attention to Palicos and turf wars. Second game of this generation (Bloodborne) and one best overall. Can't wait for bigger expansions.

Ok with over 100hrs+ in the game and hunter rank 55 I think I can give a proper review. First, I have never really played Monster Hunter but heard from other gamers its a great game! So i tried on the Wii and the 3DS and thought the game was a too much of a grind with an empty story so I passed.. .

So then I purchased this Monster Hunter World on PS4 thinking I should give it another try. I asked a couple of strangers to help me since I had no clue what I was doing because its was pretty daunting they let you pick over 15 weapons and looking at the entire screen with so many things going on.

I have to say without a couple of people showing me the basics I would not have enjoyed it as much because I wouldn't know what I am doing. So let me share you the pros and cons to this game -

Pros - Great Graphics, Amazing monsters to take down and challenging, huge open land with great ambiance. Create your own character and customize your weapons, and armor.

Cons - Loading times are extremely slow, No story had to skip most of it, Camera should be fixed. The lock on button should be corrected, and better inventory management system

Overall - I would give it 9/10 since I played over 100hrs and still enjoying it. I love playing with other Monster Hunter Veterans who can show me how to play it properly with the BOW, and other tips while hunting. It's just a great game overall and enjoy playing it with friends on the hunt for monster parts to build up your stuff.

Honestly, if the Low and High Rank portions wasn’t as polished and an incredible experience to go through. This score would be 7/8 margin just because compared to previous games, the rotating event quests, RNG investigations for RNG loot, reduced weapon and quest pool, and less challenging solo player end game. But, with the incredibly constructed world, incredible combat experience, and cohesive experience, the downpoints are more just demands for more content.

I won't rehash the problems I had with World simply because they make me profoundly sad. I wanted to like the game, I hoped the new direction would bring the series to a new level, but instead, the whole thing blew up in my face like a Marshmallow Peep left in the microwave too long.

Moving to real consoles has paid off for Monster Hunter. The fifth installment is bigger, nicer and funnier (a bit). In addition, a number of free addons will extend the entertainment for another dozens of hours. [Issue#283]
