Everything that made this series great is finally back on home consoles and it's even better than before. And by that, I mean that MH has finally been ridden by the scourge of awful controls and now plays smoothly as any good action RPG should.
Constant support from the developers releasing new monsters, weapons, and cute little events every few months will have you coming back for more.

Constant support from the developers releasing new monsters, weapons, and cute little events every few months will have you coming back for more. Playing solo is great (and arguably easier) but this game truly shines when hunting in groups. The wide choice of weapons, 14 in total, allows each hunter to play their part in keeping the monster(s) busy, deal major damage or heal and support their party members.
The story is simple but charming, encouraging the player not to take anything too seriously and enjoy the adventure and occasional mayhem that the hardest hunts can provide.

Monster Hunter: World was able to maintain a balance and remained true to the ideals of the series with its battles, awesome monsters and meaningful upgrades that fans love, but at the same time the game made an impressive leap that betrayed to her a new kind, feelings, and size.

As a first timer of Monster Hunter, I'd have to say that this game is absolutely amazing. While it's essentially a grinding game, I loved the fact that the game doesn't have a loot box system nor does is it Pay2Win. The game doesn't feel all that grind-y too (already logged 400+ hours to the game before doing a review); each encounter feels like a new one, and there's a good variety of monsters/ playstyle you could do - plus free content is always great.

I guess the game's main weak point is storytelling, but I've heard that it never was MH's strong suit anyway. Don't get me wrong, there's a lot of lore and story in the game, it's just basically weak in my opinion. Another thing I kind of got disappointed was the lack of inspired weapon design. Seriously, a pair of clubs for dual BLADES? Aside from that, majority of the designs are actually the same but they just tacked in some weird monster part or something. Nonetheless, the game's strength's far outweigh the game's weakness.

To cut it short, here's the pros/ cons of the game:

    Pros:
    - High replay value
    - No loot boxes or pay to win systems
    - 14 weapons (aka playstyle) to choose from.
    - Breathtaking monsters & a beautiful "New World".

    Cons:
    - Weak story
    - Lack of variety in terms of weapon design/ uninspired weapon designs.

That aside, I enjoyed my time (which was a lot) in MHW and will come back when there are a lot of updates, as for veterans it will be amazing to see monsters like never before and for newcomers is the most friendly introduction to the series yet. This game is nothing for Casuals because this Game is for Gamers who know what to do in this kind of game and also investing a lot of time like I did.

We are welcomed back with the largest and most detailed maps, new, more complex attack patterns for monsters, and a quality, albeit small (at the time of this review) cast of monsters. The combat is still true to its roots Monster Hunter combat, with you fighting the animation frames almost as much as you are fighting that fire breathing T-Rex. All this means is you have to plan your attacks, and you cant just button mash your way to a victory. However, the many comparisons to the Dark Souls series are unwarranted.

The game also has a robust online multiplayer system, that does need a few QoL tweaks, but other than that, is fantastic.

My only true complaints with the game are the timed event quests, and the lack of G-Rank at the moment. Timed Event Quests, while fun for the daily player, are often harder to access for the players who have other obligations (work, family, kids, etc.) G-Rank will hopefully be coming in the near future with either a free or paid DLC expansion to add the true MH experience.

    Gameplay
The main and only course. I know games tend to be more wholesome, but this is not one of those game. The fun comes from doing one thing very well and that's fighting monsters. I'll be breaking down what I think about the gameplay and how the online attribute compliments it.

The weapon mechanics are impressive to my eyes. They are very unique from each other making fighting a monster with a different weapon feel completely different as well. I say they have depth because they take a while to master as stronger monsters make you doubt if you've really mastered your weapon and even when you've beat every single monster, you'll find that there are better and more efficient ways to fight. The skill cap for the weapons may vary, but all really reach for the sky. The people who made these weapons really outdid themselves.

The monster's AI and depth are decent. After a while playing, you'll be able to read monster's movements and fighting them become a bit stale. They tried to put in a more dynamic system but you'll know exactly where monsters spawn and how they act very fast. You'll also reach a certain point where the monsters under a certain threshold are not fun to fight because they lack any challenge. There are level types like high rank and tempered monsters that make you stay on your toes with a good challenge, but after 800 hours, you'll hit the ceiling pretty hard. But that's a lot of hours so I can't criticize that ceiling too much. I do remember the time it took for me to understand how monsters fight and I enjoyed it.

The game is immersive, but everything is going to feel the same pretty fast. It's a lovely environment and when the hectic hunt stops, you can appreciate the concept behind it. But it's not comparable to nature which it tried to replicate.

    Online
I want to dedicate this part to how online improved or failed to improve Monster Hunter World. About a year passed and I think in general it worked well. Still too early to see how things are gonna play out but it feels like a good direction.

There has only been one major weapon balance update. Since you're not fighting against other people, I don't think it's too necessary but I like how the devs pay attention to balance. Kudos.

At first, going online with your friends or just staying online was really shaky. You'd lose connection and find yourself fighting alone or just randomly disconnect from a session. It improved now and I haven't had that happen in a while. Good stability.

Three new monsters have been added to the game, free too I should add. One looks like just a variation from a different monster but once you fight it, you'll find them different enough to think of them differently. Good stuff.

There are rotating event quests and giant game events so it's nice to see the seasons pass to keep things enjoyable. I wish there was a little more though. And the creativity behind the event quest are kind of lacking. Although, Arch Temper Monsters were introduced that gives a better challenge. Could be better but not bad.

The people you meet are fine. I don't think there's actually a way to be toxic though. Almost everyone you meet have their mic receiver off. Family friendly here, I guess.

Playing with people is entertaining. I gotta say, it's fun hunting with people and it helps with the game's longevity, can't say I've met every type of player out there. This extra dynamic of co-op keeps the gameplay fresh.

That's it folks. Is there a story? Sure, not something worth mentioning though. Is there anything else to do besides hunt monsters? Well yeah, but warping back and forth to catch a giant fish isn't exactly great. This game is fun because there is a steep progression line, but I will admit, mindless grind is a better word for it at times. Is there a lot of content? Quite a bit, and quite a lot to do if you have the heart for it. That's about it, you fight monsters, build weapons and armors off them, then fight bigger badder monsters. It does this very well and I had tons of fun. Sure there is still room for improvement, particularly with the monster's depth, but I don't regret the time I've spent in this game and would recommend this game.

Anyway this game sells console, the only reason I never owned a PS Vita was because of this game, the only reason I was forced to buy a 3DS was because of this game and I will be a stereotypical guy for saying this, that I practically bought PS4 only because of this game. And my next console will be the one where the next Monster Hunter fan base will congregate the most as usual. BTW you have to play at least 500 hours to be eligible to write a review for this game, I am like 3300+ hours and continuing. But there is a big challenge to the entry, you have to commit to it, learn this game, play it with passion and love. Oh and the developers of this game, probably the most generous bunch of people in the World (Pun intended). keep adding tons and tons of content for FREE. All the DLCs are pure cosmetic, you don't have to buy ANYTHING other than the game to win, this is NOT a pay to win game. Compared to the previous games MH World has completely revolutionized the Monster Hunter series. They have created an intricate ecosystem with competing monsters and countless ants crawling everywhere. I was expecting a bland, open map full of pretty bushes and some birds flying above. However, i was proved wrong, there are so many things! And you can abduct them and throw them in your home as well! The massive, polished map this game provides completely blew me away.

Throughout the series, combat has gotten more fluid (especially in MH Generations) but it always remained a little clunky. (Ignoring the fact that the controls are complete ass and you can't change them). Once you get used to the controls, the combat seems a lot more smooth, making it satisfying to land devastating combos on a massive wyvern yearning for your blood. The Great Sword, which used to feel kinda clunky is a lot more fluid, with multiple combos that flow well into each other, making feel bad ass after landing a fully charged combo on a monsters tail. The bow has changed as well. Although undermined by the newly added slinger, the bow still proves to be a fun weapon (noticed they made it more mobile and powerful). However, the guns are so boring, there is nothing special about them. They feel clunky, slow and under powered. Especially the heavy bow gun, been like this since the beginning. But this is just an opinion, you might take a liking to the bow gun.

For all you Monster Hunter fans out there, this is a must buy. However, for players that search for an immersive story that provides many hours of entertainment, you will be somewhat disappointed. The game's story is like an ocean that's one foot deep. When you open the game, you are kinda thrown into the story with barely any context and you chase some big dragon (won't reveal more than that). If story is what you are looking for, turn away. This game is mainly based on hunting monsters, not the story behind them.

Some players are saying that the combat is sluggish, weapons feel clunky, and it's for little kids??? For new players combat will definitely feel a little sluggish as you mindlessly spam two buttons for the first few hours. But you will soon discover that the combat is extremely complicated, providing a huge learning curve. Once you get the hang of these combos you will feel like a bad ass monster hunter. For some reason, I have been noticing reviews stating that the game is for little kids. I must admit, the game does have some weird Japanese **** that appeals to it's main fan base. But as soon as you have a monster eat you out like an Oreo you realize that this game ain't cute at all. This is real **** and your'e gonna piss your pants when you fight the final boss, trust me.

So far, I have been very impressed with the game. However, I have noticed, if you pay some attention, on the Xbox One the game is kinda blurry (thought I was going blind for a second). Not to much of an issue, only makes me more hyped for the PC version. You probably won't notice unless you look really hard as well. I still can't get over how bad the controls are. Hopefully they do something about that.

Biggest thing about this game is that they decided not to ruin the game with pay-to win content, loot boxes and cosmetic bull****. Gotta respect that decision. A company that actually listens to it's players.

    TL;DR

    Pros
This game has massive, well-polished worlds.
    Complicated yet fluid combat.
    Scary monsters.
    NO LOOT CRATES!!!

    Cons
Controls are **** and you can't change them.
Kinda blurry if you pay enough attention.
    A shallow story.

Game would be a 10, but the controls really killed it for me.

This is an amazing game, capcom brought MH to an impressive level.
The monsters are well built and make the battles as frantic as fun, the weapons are spectacular: each with its special characteristics. But the best part is crafting: deep and vast. It would take at least 100 pages to describe all the goodies of this game but the result is always the same: A pearl of this generation

The sheer volume of stats, menus, weapons, armour, items and customisation involved in these games is truly hard to comprehend in the initial hunts. I can safely say that after taking a few hours to familiarise myself with it all, and trying out each and every weapon before settling into the one I found most fun (the hammer), the game opened up into one of the most unique and enjoyable experiences I've had in a long time. You can really see the effort that Capcom have went through to open up this series to newcomers while staying strong with their distinctive gameplay.

The game centres round a solid loop. Accept a quest/hunt, prepare for it, research the monster in the field, slay it, make new equipment out of materials harvested from it, accept a new quest. This is interspersed with gathering herbs, plants, ammo and other items from Expeditions (basically free-roam mode) and repeating previous hunts to farm items you need for a particular set of armour/weapon. It's compelling, fun, deep and addictive, and after my third large hunt or so I was hooked. "Recipes" for equipment can be saved on a wishlist, so you know exactly what you need next time and by capturing monsters alive you can maximise the materials gleaned, Since materials are randomly generated (with a little adjustment by aiming for certain body parts) this can create some frustrating situations where you don't get what you want from a hunt but this is essentially the core mechanic of the play. I must admit that farming monsters for a single claw to make a new hammer CAN get tedious, but thankfully this is MOSTLY optional and only certain equipment requires extensive effort to make.

Hunts themselves are a joy, scary, exhilarating and realistic. You actually hunt the monster, gathering feathers, scales, claw marks and more in the field to research it before locking in to its nest and going at it. Injured monsters will try to seek safety but will also become more aggressive when cornered. Battles are tactical, methodical and as a result SO satisfying to win. This is not an easy game and will really test your abilities when encountering something new. The Tobi-Kadachi presented a significant jump in difficulty for me but by researching it, working out its weakness and farming a new super-effective weapon/armour set, I prevailed. The monster designs are incredible and essentially fighting a game of bosses is truly unique. Particular favourites were the Diablos, Rathalos and Legiana fights, and the final few monsters are gargantuan and awe-inspiring. They also REALLY want you dead and will claw, headbutt, flame and crush you with ferocity.

The story is pretty bare-bones and essentially sees a company of humans settling on a new monster-infested ecosystem where they try to survive and learn about their new home and its inhabitants. The voice acting is good and the visuals/score are stunning. Each new environment, be it a jungle, wasteland, inland coral reef or rotting cave system is gorgeous to behold ad I actually loved gathering expeditions where you get to casually stroll around collecting ingredients (with occasional monster interruptions). The crafting system is also expansive and uses bugs, flora, fauna, chemicals and other naturally-occurring substances to make better potions, traps, stat boosters, stamina replenishment, bombs and more. This can even be done during a battle by the handy shortcut wheel, meaning you can whip up a mega potion in an instant if you have a herb and a bit of honey in your pouch.

MHW is an expansive game that is really not for casual play. It took 50-60 hours to complete the main quest (with farming between) but I know people who have clocked up 100s of hours playing it with friends. You can switch your weapon class (which has a HUGE impact on the way the game plays), but I must admit that I did have a bit of hunting fatigue by the end. When later monsters are so challenging, take up to 50 minutes to hunt and don't give you all the materials you need for a shiny new weapon, it can take its toll. However, if you love looting games and RPGs this will satisfy a huge part of your gaming life. I'm grateful for the accessibility of this game and it has been a joy to play and be involved in. Just expect a LONG haul if you want to get the best monsters, equipment and experiences.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I am new to MH games and coming straight from hundreds of hours of DS3, the game felt super easy at first and the combat system was clunky and slow ( i started out with the Greatsword, which is also what i preferred in DS3). After a few quests I gave up the game and went back to DS3. After a couple weeks my friend insisted that I pick it up again and give it another try, and I did. This time I switched to charge blade and got further into the game and encountered harder dragons that one shot me a few times (that's you Nergigante), I have to say the combat felt more fluid and being able to land a super element discharge feels execelent.
It's true the game has literally no story, but now i just skip all dialogue and just go about hunting monsters to craft armors and weapons and charms etc. it's rewarding when you finally get the parts you need after dozens of grinding, meanwhile you git gud and take less time to kill the same monster. It's more enjoyable now that i'm learning more about the game. I'm really sad i missed the DMC sets and really hope it comes back in the future.

All in all this is a game worth buying if you are into grinding for ingredients and crafting equipment. if you're here for the story you will be severely disappointed.

The game is amazing, of course is easier for most parts (like gathering, combining and monsters tracking) but even so, even the most experimented players can still get one shot with any late monster A.K.A arch temper ones even not being the popular G rank level.
Despite the graphics, this mhw achieve what most earlier tittles dont have: a totally connected and gigantic maps without loading zones and a live ecosystem where the player can interact .
For most people the controller can be a bit rusty, slow and hard to move, react and so but this depend on the kind of weapon you are using: while light weapons gives great mobility but deals light and fast damage, heavy weapons deals great damage but at slow rate than the light weapons but none of this matters when you get use of the weapon of your preference, all content can be complete with any weapon.
Even most people say the game is too easy compare to earlier tittles, dont forget MHW doesnt have a "G-rank"level content which basically is the hard game of earlier tittles ultimate ver., and even so late game monsters on MHW can be hard to deal on their arch-temper ver.
Finally, i love this game and will wait to receive any extra content they release on future (lets wait for the 1 year anniversary), and even if they release a ultimate ver. i"ll buy it instantly.

However, if you can push past the barriers (as well as many unskippable cutscenes and an insultingly hand-holding tutorial that does little to actually teach you more than the simplest basics of the game), this is a downright awesome game.

Having played about 2 hours of Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate on the 3DS and being equally bored and frustrated by it, I went into this with lowered expectations. After 5 hours of groaning and whining about the Handler being unbearably annoying, the Palicoes (cat companions) being insufferable and the combat being stupid, I found myself enthralled by this game's beautiful environments, its ability to make grinding far more entertaining than it is in other games, and the constant challenge new monsters provide.

Unfortunately, after a solid 400 hours of gameplay, I do feel this game has worn out its welcome. While an expansion (Iceborne) is on the way, my urge to dive back into the game and continue the grind is not as strong as it once was. While the game did provide me with some solid entertainment, the act of slaying bigger, badder monsters wears out its welcome after a while. Certainly, the maps are quite large, and the game can feel quite like an open-world game at times, but there doesn't seem to be enough variation in Monster Hunter's core gameplay to pull me back in. That is more of a subjective criticism than an objective one in my mind, as Monster Hunter is an unapologetically unique series, and I believe it deserves credit for making a game that was once abhorrently obtuse (to me, at least) much more accessible.

To conclude, I would absolutely recommend this game to anyone who likes to hit big monsters with a wide variety of interesting weapons and feel a consistent sense of accomplishment for doing so. As I stated earlier, however, be prepared for a steep learning curve and a frustrating introductory experience.

I've met with this franchise in 2005 and I'm a huge fan of it since day 1. Series felt so organic everytime. I had to do simply "everything" in the game, like there was no shortcuts to anything. I had to do simply "everything" in the game, like there was no shortcuts to anything. Item gathering, mining, fishing, hunting... It was a fantasy world yet it felt insanely realistic. Not to mention it was a hard game to play, which I really love. Everything I did mattered in a big way. So you can clearly see that, Monster Hunter is my favourite franchise of all time. I've played every single title possible, even the spin-off's. And when World finally got announced in 2017 for the home consoles after all these years I was speechless. When it released, all I did was playing the game for months like a maniac. Did I like it? Answer is obvious but for sure there were some things that I did not like it. First of all, the minority of monsters, armors and weapons. It's understandable since the game had a brand new engine and they had to model everything from the beginning. Considering that, it had a good roster in it. Not to mention, game received FREE title-updates, which brought new monsters, new event, new difficulty levels, armors, weapons and items. With all those unwanted microtransactions, World got an amazing feedback with these free updates. My second complain is the Weapon designs. Monster Hunter team is absolutely crazy when it comes to designing "anything" literally. Monsters, Weapons, Armors... But there was something missing in the weapons. It all looked like a one weapon but undergo some changes with the given materials. The reason behind that was probably, they wanted to make the weapons look realistic for the game. But it backfired for the old players, because every single weapons had its own design in the old games which made each one of them unique and good looking for the players. My last complain is the games difficulty. Compared to the old games it was a little easier. Not to mention our character hunter had even more features to use on its arsenal, it had many advantages compared to old games. That also had a reason itself: the dev. team wanted players to experience a medium difficulty so that everyone could play. Surprisingly, World became CAPCOM's best selling game of all time. Not Resident Evil... Not Devil May Cry... Not Street Fighter... Team was not expecting such praise. So you can say their strategy worked. Thankfully, in their expansion Iceborne, Master Rank will be "tremendously hard" dev.'s say. "We wanted to make the first release accessible, now that we've gained players, we can easily make it harder in a balanced way." which makes me really happy. On its own Monster Hunter World is an amazing game regardless of their cons. It's one of the best co-op experiences in gaming history. It deserves all the praise with the mechanical depth it has in combat, smart monster movements and blood boiling action. Players around the world are waiting for expansion's release since the team revealed... including myself and the woman of my life that I've met in Monster Hunter :) It has been quite a while that I actively play the game since I finished the game 120% every armor, weapon, quest clear. We even caught every single rare pet every fish size. We are just waiting for master rank and hopefully Alatreon... I hope there are people around the world who cares about these games as well and my words speak for their feelings... If you haven't played Monster Hunter. Please give it a try. Accomplishing a victory is the best feeling you can ever imagine in this game... Expand

Maybe its not hard enough or the weapon designs are not good enough but I hope they will fix those in the Iceborne expansion. Game is a blast to play especially with your friends! A must buy and a must play for every hardcore gamer / fans of the series

I am a huge MH Fan since MH3U and Monster Hunter World was for a fan like me the best game I ever played. I have played 300h and didn't get enough of it and I have so many good memories about it that I doesn't want to quit it in the upcoming years (sorry for the bad English I am 14 and I am coming from germany)

Wonderful bosses, worlds and character customization. The music is jamming and the animations and fun. Combat is also satisfying. Put in over a hundred hours into this. Ultimately, the G-rank and the need to consistently grind the same monsters is what put me off continuing this otherwise fantastic game.

I have been a fan of the series since monster hunter 4 ultimate. The quality of life improvements are so substential that I could not go back to the older games. The one complaint I have is the design of the weapons. At the moment it's the base weapon plus a bit of fur / skin and teeth from the monster, which is considerable downgrade from insane amount of visual variaty of the older games.

The fights with monsters who were much stronger than human beings are always full of excitement, always. As a player of former monster hunter series, the design of new monsters in MHW is still charming. With the approval of console, there were much more details in both the models and actions of the monsters. The remake of the monsters existed in former MH was satisfying as well. However, there were also problems created by this evolution. Besides the bugs and weird movements of the monsters, the turf war was upsetting after saw them over and over again. Also, the landform full of steps and slopes made it extremely difficult to enjoy the combat in later game period. Besides, the music was too mediocre to be remembered. Anyway, I still agree that MHW is a necessary evolution for MH series. With this platform, the future of MH is worth expected. Expand

On PS4 absolutely love this game. From some strange reason it is so wonderfully satisfying to jump in and bash up large dinosaur type monsters. You get to craft all your gear with what you kill/capture. Just wonderful! The learning curve is rather steep but definitely worth taking the time to master. Graphics are gorgeous and the replayability is endless. A definite must buy!

The story sorta exist, it is kinda boring most of the time but i do like the game no matter what, the monsters are amaizng and really fun to go against, they actually take time to defeat so that is a positive. But again after you verse them 10+ times they become really boring and easy so it loses its sense of challenge. I include iceborne in this review but i beat all of iceborne without failing a single quest becuase the game is to easy at that stage. Maybe for others its a challenge but this was just me.

This is a shorter review but overall this game is worht playing including iceborne, its fun, combat feels good and it has depth. This game is what the genre should be unlike certain rip off games lie God Eater 3.

Honestly, if the Low and High Rank portions wasn’t as polished and an incredible experience to go through. This score would be 7/8 margin just because compared to previous games, the rotating event quests, RNG investigations for RNG loot, reduced weapon and quest pool, and less challenging solo player end game. But, with the incredibly constructed world, incredible combat experience, and cohesive experience, the downpoints are more just demands for more content.
