My score of 10 isn't overated, and i'll explain why.

I used to be an unconditional fan of the monster hunter series (Monster Hunter, MHF, MHF2, MHFU, MH3, MH4U, MHG...) and now, Monster Hunter World (MHW).
I felt kinda disappointed for the huge changes that were made with this title like the grind system, where you don't have to stand still waiting too much to collect than in the previous, but most shocking is that you now don't have to take an eye on your inventory or crafting on the go for pickaxes, bug nests or anything.

Difficulty is ridiculous easy, at least story missions, perhaps so damn easy for monster hunter veterans as me, where i'm not even in the need to carry anything from home to the quest (except for some specifically monsters where i prefer to capture them or they burst me because of my resistances). Camera still disgusts in some times.

Although those major changes (and those minor changes that i don't mention), there are huge improvements in this title which makes me feel more like a lover than a fan.

I've already played like 55-60 hours yet (starting on 26th January), and this is what I can say:

Graphic improvements are simply awesome, now enviroments feel more live than ever. There's always something to do than just the main objective where you should pick up everything you see because for new players, you won't know when you will need them.

There are a lot of new functions and mechanics, new maps (nothing recycled yet) which are gorgeous and amazingly huge. Now you find the game with plenty of tutorials, manuals and even a bestiary book, which makes it easier than ever to understand.

You'll find your role here, no matter what, each weapon is well distinguished and there are no bad ways to play it, just better ways.

The game itselft has an interesting story, multiplayer is the big point of the game where all the previous mentioned features become better.

Main content shall give you at about 60-80 hours of playtime, which is worth the price by the way, but also you may try out optional content (missions) getting up to more than 300-400 hours (and i'm not crazy).

DLC content will be completely free (regardless of cosmetic things) where you will find more new monsters (with its own armor and weapons i suppose), you'll be able to play event missions in coop with other Capcom titles (like the Horizon Event or the upcoming SFV) granting an interesting new experience by the way.

By the way, this is the most I can say, after almost 60 hours, even I don't like some changes, I realize that they were made for better, a big step in the right direction, because there is nothing wrong in changing, it is wrong to get stuck in the same for ever and don't explore all the opportunities you have, what Capcom, in my opinion, did it somehow good enough to get my full score.

But it's not Dark Souls so 9 out of 10!

But it has palicoes and you can have a little piglet as a pet... 10 out of 10!

i like how you can solo the whole game or choose to group up and its not revolved around loot boxes.the game is a little glitchy at times but its ok ,its not about just running up and spamming buttons to take out a monster you have to wait and move around and wait for openings some weapons are harder to master than others overall very fun and addicting

The game has plenty of tutorial text that teach you how to play the game, while that may seem tedious, if you take it seriously you'll have a fantastic early experience. Story is good enough and enjoyable, and makes your character seem like a bad A. The Palico companions are a good comic relief and super cute, and i do not like cats so that's saying a lot. Now to the main meat of this... the game-play loop: It's perfect. The way the grind rewards it's players is how Destiny fans wish their game was. Every fight is a boss battle, situations constantly change, and you can affect what parts you are rewarded with by which part of the body you attack on the Monsters. The online sessions can be a little annoying, but for this to be the series first big entry on a new gen system with fantastic online capabilities, it's not worth complaining about since i've had no problems playing with friends when i want to.
If you want a challenging game, a new series to get into, a game to grind, grind, and grind... and be rewarded for it... this game is for you. There is nothing more satisfying than landing a successful mount on a monster, or capturing one before time runs out. And with 14 different weapon types, traps, bait, armor, and skills there's not a play-style that's not in this game. To top all of this off, the soundtrack for the game is incredible and puts it all together.
Do yourself a favor, pick up Monster Hunter: World and give it a good chance. Get through the very early game patiently and learn the core of the game, and you'll be addicted to the game... just like this guy who has never touched a Monster Hunter title previously.

After moving from a portable system to a home console the world of monster hunter has become much more immersing, getting rid of loading screens and having many monsters typically fighting each other when they meet, either in what is called turf wars or just fighting each other normally. The game itself is rather simple in choosing between 14 different weapon types to fight boss like monsters and create gear out of their carves and materials. The game itself gives you, the player, a great sense of progression in that you fight progressively harder and more complex monsters and creating progressively stronger gear as a result. If you enjoy challenging fights, grinding gear, and seeing yourself improve this game is a great introduction into the world of Monster Hunter.
In the past this game has had a stigma of being rather hard to get into, whether that be the many gathering quests that are required in past games or the complexity of the game that was typically not explained to you in game. All that changes with World as the game is much more streamlined to help new players get into the game. If you’re someone who is new to the series or had trouble getting into the game in the past and want to try it out again this would be the best game to start. Instead of forcing you through many gathering quests the game quickly throws you into the world. The game constantly gives you tutorials to be able to understand the various mechanics involved with the game like crafting and farming instead of keeping it rather unknown like in previous games.
The gameplay has also been revamped to be easier to get into. There is a new mechanic in scout flies that help you easily get into the fighting as they lead directly to the monsters instead of forcing you to look over the map. The tutorials also expand to the weapons and show many of the combos and mechanics involved with each weapon, as well as a training area that explain the multiple combos and the inputs required. There are also many small changes like newly added damage numbers that help you, the player, get feedback on your gameplay whether that would be knowing where to attack or just how much your attacks do.
With the increased accessibility that many of the changes bring to Monster Hunter: World, this is a great starting point into getting into the series. One that you will hopefully enjoy!

    Pros

    1. Combat system is great and very complicated. I am veteran in Soul Series. Combat can be clunky at first but once you get used to it, It feel great. Attacking the weakness never been so important. I feel satisfied every time I hammer the monster's head. Forget about lock on system, we don't use it in this game. Every weapon has its own combo and depth. You cannot master it in short time.

2.World dynamic. It is unique system you can't find in any game. Map designed is great. Monster can roaming around and fight other monsters. It sparks excitement everywhere, although it gets repetitive later on but it leaves good impression to me. Visual is beautiful

3.Great BGM - get pump up every time when fight monsters

    ------------------------------------

    Cons

    1. It does not encourage people to play multiplayer as it should do, especially duo. Monster health will get 2.6x when someone join, regardless of number. (2 players will be at most disadvantage). Reward money will share among players ( more people = less money) and Faint also shares (meaning if someone die 3 times it can cause game over even you don't die). I don't see any benefits to play multiplayer if I am good enough to solo monster myself, unless you want to enjoy playing with friends.

    2. Tutorial is not effective enough. Surely, this game has tutorial but it is not enough. Most of the times, you have to go online and search for information. There are a ton of things the game does not tell you or clearly explain to you. Watching guide on youtube and pro player playing your favorite weapon are a must, or else you will miss some technic. A lot of confusion here, you need to read wiki, where to get this XX parts, how to unlock XX, search and read, search and read to your heart content.

3.Lack of objective - This game has its story mission but the main problem is this game does not have EXP unlike others. You will get better by forging new weapon and armor. However, weapon and armor you want will come from few specific monsters. Once you are done your gears, you have no reasons to hunt other monsters that you don't need its part. Sometimes, I just stare at the screen and don't know what to do because I can't improve my character further and if you solo all the way, you have plenty of money. There is jewel random drop from monster but it is random. If you love grinding, it is ok but if you don't then that is it.

    4. Roar ??? - I don't know what others think but I hate monster roar's system. I know you can nullify it with Earplug skill but it is not easy to get lv5 Earplug. I think this system should be removed entirely. It is not fun to wait 5 sec when monster roar, or be forced to use certain skill

    .... ....

Story is not focused here. At least Capcom has tried. I don't want to complain. They are good cinematic btw.

    .......

In sum, Monster hunter world is an awesome game with some serious flaws. Some people will love, some will not. Combat system is good enough to win over repetitiveness but still I prefer the game with less RNG, and please adjust monster's health based on number of players as well (not just 1 or 4)

There are some downsides though, it is a pretty grindy game, but not in a bad way. You will be in 40 hours play time and still not fight every monster or type. The hitboxes are not the best. There will be times that you look like you're away from the monster and they will run by and you will still get hit even though it doesn't look like you're close to it. The camera can become annoying with the bigger monsters. Depending on the angle a wing can take up your entire screen rendering your efficiency in battle. There are however ways to avoid this in the camera setting, but you're giving up some freedom in your movement to do so. Here you play as your own created hunter with your kitty companion and you set out to slay monsters, which I feel are doing nothing wrong, theyre just minding their own business, living life and humans come around to mess that up for them..
Im not some peta vegan, but at first I felt kind of unconfortable just running around slaying monsters for being a nussance…
I felt like I was the monster… but the fact this game evoked that kind of emotion for me means that theres something special here… the world of monster hunter feels alive and real.. I felt immersed tracking down my targets…
The experience youll have with this game is going to be completely dependent on how you choose to play…
If you play solo, this game is basically a boss rush dark souls with a cat companion that will aid you in battle and heal you, and if you play with friends it’s a destiny feeling game
The game starts out giving you 1 of every weapon type so you can find the right one for you.. and then build your character around it.. this is a decision that’s crucial you make early on if youre not the grind type…
But basically you can investigate the worlds, gather materials to craft potions antidotes and possibly ammo, slay monsters and pick bone piles for parts to craft better armour and weapos for both you and your companion, do side quests for rewards or you can straight up stick to the story which will have you on essentially a boss rush mode quest of monster contract after monster contract…
If you have a crew youll have a decently enjoyable and addictive experience here…
When you start am assignment you can go in solo or with a party of up to 4 players,
You then follow scout flies to tracks that will lead you to your target, and you can pick up items along your way for crafting
and if you go in alone, once you track down your target, you have the option to shoot an sos flare which will bring in random players to help you…
However no matter how you play, solo or with friends… you only have 4 lives to kill this monster.. but heres where my annoyances with this game comes in.. everything is constantly being timed…
I actually love that there are only 3 continues allowed… but the timer on literally everything you do just makes this game feel frustrating.. the most of which is the 30 second timer that starts once the monster is slain… if you die and youre running back to your team and they kill the monster before you get back.. congrats.. you don’t get to skin it for its materials…even if youre the one that did most of the work taking it down, it doesn’t matter… if youre not back in 30 seconds you get nothing but the rewards for completing the task… its annoying that the game doesn’t let you choose when to leave after completion…
Even more annoying is that even the expeditions which is essentially the games free roam mode where youre free to hunt and grind for whatever materials you want with infinite lives is secretly timed as well… I got closed to slaying some dragon and I get a warning that its about to leave soon… then a message pops up that it got away and I felt like I completely wasted my time…
But despite these massive annoyances I had with this game, I just couldn’t walk away…
The fights all feel so different and so engaging, you can trap monsters, you can luer them into turf wars with other monsters, its amazing to think back to a previous battle and realize that that battle was in the same game.. it feels like a distant memory.. and the experience felt so unique.. but it was all in this same world…
its almost magic how great this game does at mixing up basically the same loop of over come the odds and slay this beast… the battles will take you to new parts of the map, youll deal with new challenges and attack patterns
    But its no easy feat…
The dark souls comparisons are made not only because battles are so tough but because of the combat feeling.. its stiff.. its slow… youre juggling your stamina and attacks, youre breaking to sharpen your sword, youre fleeing for new materials.. but one thing the souls games do that I with this game did was show a health bar
the game manages to give you that one more try feeling.. but not nearly as strong as it would if you actually could see the progress you were making.. sure youll cut of tails and sometimes they’ll limp away
But I still had no clue if I was close or not.. if I could keep trying and do it on my own or if I needed to call in for help..
This may seem like a little thing, but I feel this small addition could push this game to the next level.. at least for me, as in its current state bosses just feel ridiciously spongy
And in general the feeling of a lack of progression is the negative aspect that sticks out the most for this game..
    I give Monster Hunter World
    an 8.5/10

How to level up a game series which never really made a mistake: this.

Multiplayer could have been better. To only join your friend's expedition through SOS-Signals is a bit strange. The connection in general is a bit unstable. That was the only negative thing I have to say. New monster and the old monster feel new. Just impressed how they were able to set up the game. PS:

This is the best game I’ve played in a long time! Much more fun than Zelda BOTW and pretty much anything else that was as highly rated as that within the last few years.

I also find the game play to be a lot more fun than the 3DS versions Monster Hunter.

Ignore all the whiners, this game is easily a 9+ once you learn how the whole thing works.

Somebody at Capcom loves huge, epic monsters, dinosaurs and dragons of all types an varieties. Monster Hunter has been the premier franchise for chasing these beasts down and battling, but for years and years was relegated to portable systems. Nothing wrong with that, but for me I could never get into it. The small screen felt like it was a disservice to how incredible the creatures were and how grand the hunts could get.

That's a problem no more. With Monster Hunter World Capcom finally brings its biggest franchise to the big screen and all of the depth, the nuance, and the monster hunter-ness of it all.

The transition to the consoles isn't a direct 1 to 1 conversion. Monster Hunter world has made a lot of changes to appeal to the mass market. the game has so many quality of life improvements to every single aspect of it. From the crafting, the information on certain monsters, and the core gameplay itself. In game flies help you track monsters, maps are massive with no loading between small rooms, the entire game is polished and a lot of the guess work and tedium of the prior games is gone.

Normally that is the kind of things to make veterans scoff. Dumbing down games is a major problem in today's market, with the appeal of the casual fan making some hardcore franchises incredible player friendly to the fault of the core game itself.

Monster hunter avoids that problem entirely. They take all the info that was relegated to online searches and wikipedia and incorporated all of that into the game itself. Need to know what parts you need and from what monster? The likely-hood of certain mats compared to others, it's all in the game. The ins and outs of using weapons and some of the particulars to certain combos are all in the game. All of these quality of life changes alongside superb online, great visuals and a game in 2018 free of the dlc micro-transaction mess that has become so commonplace all add up to a fantastic experience.

The best part of that is, it's all done without sacrificing depth. The gameplay is weighty, the hunts are intense and you can and will be defeated when you go against Rathalos or Diablos for the first time.

That is also what makes this game so great, the first time you land a trap, mount and capture or kill a monster its a satisfaction that cant be explained. So try it for yourself, and see why Monster Hunter World is easily one of Capcoms best games in years, and one if not the best monster hunter in a very long time.

If you can play Dark Souls or The Witcher and embrace their unique mechanics, then you can play Monster Hunter World. Too many players expect the controls and combat to behave like every other Action RPG. But can you really call yourself a gamer if you can’t tolerate the learning curve?

It is also possible to completely ignore many of the systems when they are introduced until you are ready to engage with them. You won't be punished for ignoring some of the new things you are shown, so feel free to come back and revisit them whenever you want.

Anyone can drop into this game and have a good time from the very beginning, assuming of course that you enjoy this sort of gameplay loop. Some would call it grindy, much like an ARPG or lootershooter, essentially you are killing things to get parts to craft gear to kill bigger things to get better parts and so on and so forth.

All in all its a great game in its own right and for sure the best Monster Hunter game yet.

Minor gripes: Compared to the 3DS and previous releases, the weapon design is a little lack luster; in previous games the long sword would have a scythe design in the upper ranks that made it very pleasing to use, this is not present here rather the game uses the art design of the previous upgrade to build upon which is realistic, yes, but this is a game where you fight dragons with big hulking weaponry. Additionally the difficulty curve from 8* quests to 9* is MASSIVE and unlike anything i have ever encountered in a Monster Hunter game.

Minor Hypes: THE SWORD AND SHIELD GOT A MASSIVE REWORK IN HOW IT PLAYS *CLAPS IN SWORD AND SHIELD

And what a game this is! The learning curve is a bit steep from someone who never has played a monster hunter before. There were lots of new stuff to learn, especially in the first 20-30 hours. I still found out how lots of things work in the game even to the very end, most of which the game doesn't really explain to the player. That's probably what some might find charming about the game.

Let me just start by saying that I really love this game, but it's by no means perfect, so here's a few annoyances I have with it.

My first annoyances is that you have to go into a main quest and see the cut-scene before being able to do the quest in coop with a friend. This is something a few other Japanese games also do (Nioh especially does this and Dark Souls to a degree), they want you to play this how they intended, not how you want to play it. This was really frustrating in the beginning, but after a while you get used to it. I would much rather they didn't do it this way at all. I think this is a Japanese mentality, as I've heard that going into restaurants for instance, you have to eat the meal as they intend it, it doesn't matter if you don't like an ingredient, or is allergic or something like that. I do believe in giving people choices, and if they want to make a coop game, then let me play it coop all the way through if I so chooses.

A few other annoyances are for instance when your character get's stunned/dizzy, and you loose control of the character. I really don't like it when a game makes me loose control, and just has to sit back and watch me die because I couldn't do anything to stop it. I get that it's part of the game and there probably are some armor or skill that can make this a non-issue, but for me this simply isn't fun, and was a major annoyance through-out the whole game.

My last annoyance has to do with me interrupting my friend I was playing coop with. This kind of friendly fire (don't think they take damage) is really frustrating, as I'm sometimes mid-combo and can't stop that combo, and I would just interrupt my friend's attack or something. About two or three hours before completing the game I found a skill that negates this interruption, but both me and my friend would have had a better time without this feature. Playing with strangers, it's super annoying that they can grief you while you carve for instance.

Other than these annoyances, this is one of the better games I've played in a while! The animations on the creatures are top notch, and feels life like! When I see them limping I really feel sorry for the beast, and I find it hard to attack them because of it.

I thought I would get tired of the gameplay loop pretty fast, but I actually didn't, and it was fun to the end! There were always so much to do, that it never got boring. This aspect of the game is truly superb!

As a cat lover/cat owner, the Palico's was what made me buy this game in the first place! The charm of the cat chef and his team of cat cooks won me over pretty fast!

The setting is wonderful, the premise genius and the depth... well, it's quite unreal how many things you can and pretty much have to master to get the most out of the game.

... but that's also the problem. See, this is very, very hard to come into as a newcomer, which I myself am. The combat system is so heavy and unintuitive - not BAD as such, but incredibly difficult to just pick up and play (even spending hours in the combat training area and I still barely felt competent). Nothing is explained well, with the overall feeling being that this game is a love letter to those who have played prior titles on the 3DS and beyond, because it barely explains anything to you, both in terms of story and mechanics. I'm not a rookie gamer either - but even for me it's just... inaccessible is the word.

The cut scenes suck (lip syncing here... well, they haven't even tried), the story (from what I've seen) is bland and not a focus and there's performance niggles even on a PS4 Pro. They are the only negatives I have.

You don't have to enjoy good art to appreciate that it is good art. That's the position I'm in here. Hopefully one day I'll pick it up to play and it'll click - until then, as a purchase recommendation I'd say try before you buy, but be prepared to be either blown away or very frustrated by what you find.

From your first monster hunt of the Great Jagras, to the dreaded Nergigante, there are a lot of things to look forward to when playing this entry. It is one of the most accessible Monster Hunter game to date with many tutorials on gathering, hunting, weapon controls, and more. The world feels much more realistic and many of the old monsters from past games got their moves reworked to feel more fluid and looking like an actual creature rather than just acting like a robotic homing missile, though there are still some monsters that tend to do that. Armor skills and sets are now completely customizable. No longer do you need to get a full armor set to activate skills which is a great thing. Gathering is much easier and quicker with the new scout flies highlighting areas that you can gather and also track down monsters. Movement is much better and you have more freedom and feel less restricted. All weapons you wield will allow you to dodge in all four directions. Forward, back, left, and right. The biggest changer is being able to dodge backwards since in previous titles only the gunlance and lance were able to dodge backwards, however those weapons won't allow you to dodge forward. In World you have that ability to step forward while blocking with lance and gunlance. You can also move around while drinking potions, eating ration, and even well-done steaks. These are all very nice changes, but what about the combat? The previous Monster Hunter game that made combat incredibly fun was Monster Hunter Gen/XX. Well there are no hunter arts around World. At first I was kind of sad to hear that, but after playing it really did not matter. Combat is really fun and every weapon feels powerful. I use every weapon and never found one a did not like. Lance having the ability to have the power guard after using counter guarding. Dual blades down slopes doing the LEVI! Great sword having 3 charge slashes with the last one being immensely powerful. Sword and shield having the ability to mount, change your direction when swinging your blade, and use items without having to sheath. Gunlance dishing out even more damage with exploding bayonet. Bowgun and heavy bowgun having special ammo and the ability to move while firing shots. Bow and arrow with dragon piercer and improved rapid fire shots. Longsword with more options on your sword swings. Hammer with the ability to charge up your attacks and absorb it to do more damage and flinch less. Insect glaive with more aerial attacks like being able to dodge in midair and a much more refined kinsect upgrade mechanic that is much less time consuming. Charge blade with phial charge that runs out over time rather than one usage and the ability to charge up the sword for some extra elemental or impact damage. I have said a lot of good things, but there are definitely flaws. The story isn't that interesting and not that memorable. I only listened to the Japanese voice, but I have heard that the English voice acting was pretty funny to listen to, especially the commander which sounds like he yells all the gosh darn time. You also can get any help during story mode only after you have seen the cutscene or met certain requirements. The upgrade system can be a chore and money consuming. Previous games allowed you to get the weapon you wanted from that monster you played. In this game it is now in trees which means if you want to get let's say, Bazelguase switch axe, you need to go through part of the iron tree, then the Tzitzi, and then the Bazelguase. There were some weapons in previous game that required you to do this, but it wasn't many. The gathering hub is also kind of a let down. Rarely anyone shows up there and there are reasons as to why, the biggest one being that the many of the important things you want to do say the smithy and upgrade weapons is not there. Load times are quite long when switching from the gathering hub to HQ for those who use standard PS4 and not the Pro version. It also makes doing Arena quests harder since no is there around the gathering hub and Arena quests can only be done at the gathering hub. The only reason there are now more people at the Gathering Hub is because of Kulve Taroth. Camera can sometimes be an issue and the lock on does an okay job at best, but it can be disorienting at times when monsters move around very quickly and the bigger ones in closed areas just makes the camera even worse. The mounting is sometimes inconsistent as well. There will be times when you deal the finishing blow and taking it down, other times you can do it twice, other times you cannot do the final blow and just stab it to submission, and others when you are thrown off completely for no reason. Monster Hunter World is an amazing game and if you are new to the series, this is probably the best entry to play. Expand

After a few months, watching other players playing with a light bow gun, I remembered how fun it was playing in distance with HZD. I tried with light bowgun and it worked for me pretty well (of course after some reading and tips on this gun). After 45h I finished the game and the elder dragons. The Elder Dragons were by far the best bosses/monsters in the game, incredible monster design and amazing fight and blasts! The multiplayer also gets interesting when fighting huge monsters like them. I give it an 8.8/10 and I'll certainly play the Iceborne expansion. Expand

The game-play is awesome in this game. The world was interesting and fun to explore. Plus there many other great mechanics. But the story was pretty dull, and there is a little too much going on with some of the mechanics. Still great overall.

The series originally started on PS2 and has moved on to other consoles while mostly retaining it's look and play-style. With MHW the graphics are for the first time upgraded giving a new look to the game. New mechanics are introduced, movesets are upgraded from previous games, and the game is updated for a more modern system.

    Story

The game now actually has a story and while not necessarily a deep story it is certainly a start compared at previous games which had almost no story. The game has cinematic cut-scenes that showcase the monsters right before you start fighting them for the first time.

    Gameplay

Combat is very different from many games which might initially put off players that are used to instantly responsive controls, dark souls games, or other action games. It might feel initially clunky as you get used to the combat. Some weapons are very slow and once you have pressed the button to attack there is no cancelling the attack. Every button press is a done deal and if you spam your way through it then you will be punished. There is no lock-on and you must aim all attacks in relation to where your character is facing. Each weapon has a varied moveset that must be practiced before one can finally start feeling comfortable with the weapon. At the beginning it feels weird but once you get the hang of it it's the best feeling ever.

Mastering your weapon and predicting the moveset of the monster go hand in hand. Each monster has a specific tell that will give you insight at what kind of attack is going to perform. This expands to it's health as there is no health bar in Monster Hunter. The developers behind this game want you to use visual signs of a monster to predict it's health. If there are scars on it's body, if he starts getting tired and having trouble attacking, and if he starts limping trying to get some sleep are all actions that can use to determine the various stages of health left.

Each monster has elemental weaknesses, weak spots, and specific strategies that can be employed to optimally deal damage to the monster. Some monsters are weaker to being stunned, paralyzed, poisoned, etc. Knowing your prey is the key towards being effective. To help you in your endeavor the game comes with a monster guide/encyclopedia that fills up with relevant info as you investigate the monster by examining their footprints or by slaying/capturing a monster. The hunter has access to traps, darts, tools, and other items that can maximize their performance on the hunt.

The true point of this game is of course loot grinding. It's a cycle of beating a monster to obtain more powerful armor and weapons to challenge stronger monsters to then repeat the cycle. There are a great degree of weapons and armor available that can completely change how you play the game. Different parts of armors activate special skills that can make you hit harder, perform critical attacks, sharpen your weapon faster, increase your health bar, etc. Building armor configurations to fit your play-style is some of the things that make this game great.

The game is designed on a quest-based/mission based manner in which you are given an objective. The most common objective is slaying or capturing a particular monster. By fulfilling the quest you receive quest rewards. If hunting a particular monster then the quest rewards are usually parts from the monster. These parts can be used to craft new armors, weapons, and other items.

    Multiplayer

Monster Hunter has always been a multiplayer game starting all the way from PS2 when Online multiplayer was still beginning on PlayStation. Monster Hunter World supports cooperative multiplayer with up to 4 players. The monster health is scaled between one player and four players. The lobby rooms support up to 16 players. There are squad/guilds and you can also invite players via friend list.

    Conclusion
MHW is a game that provides countless hours of entertainment. It is a fun game with a lot of different playstyles. Capcom has made it clear that they will continue to add new content for free while only charging for cosmetic stickers and gestures. While the game has some few mechanical flaws they not detract from the overall experience. While I believe the game isn't a 10 and instead a 9.2, some reviewers have been extremely harsh and inaccurate. As such I'll round off my review to a 10.

If you are the a player that enjoys loot based combat with friends and don't mind learning the different gameplay then you will surelly enjoy this game. Give it a try. I'm sure most of you will enjoy it.

So then I purchased this Monster Hunter World on PS4 thinking I should give it another try. I asked a couple of strangers to help me since I had no clue what I was doing because its was pretty daunting they let you pick over 15 weapons and looking at the entire screen with so many things going on.

I have to say without a couple of people showing me the basics I would not have enjoyed it as much because I wouldn't know what I am doing. So let me share you the pros and cons to this game -

Pros - Great Graphics, Amazing monsters to take down and challenging, huge open land with great ambiance. Create your own character and customize your weapons, and armor.

Cons - Loading times are extremely slow, No story had to skip most of it, Camera should be fixed. The lock on button should be corrected, and better inventory management system

Overall - I would give it 9/10 since I played over 100hrs and still enjoying it. I love playing with other Monster Hunter Veterans who can show me how to play it properly with the BOW, and other tips while hunting. It's just a great game overall and enjoy playing it with friends on the hunt for monster parts to build up your stuff.

However, I must say that this game is a long-term investment in gameplay time. Although it is a lot easier to not have to grind for things, It is something you ill have to do in order to achieve the state/acquire the equipment that you want, but the game is so engaging, It doesn't really feel like grinding. This has been true for many of the past games, but this one knocks that aspect out of the park. There is a first for everything and Monster Hunter World is the first Monster Hunter game that I decided to sit down and give it a try. I am glad that I did, I became obsessed with this game and played it non-stop for a week. You know how there is Shark Week, it was Monster Week.

To boil this game down to its simplest, its eat, hunt, craft. Before a hunt, you want to sit down and eat.

To boil this game down to its simplest, its eat, hunt, craft. Before a hunt, you want to sit down and eat. Eating can give you a boost in health, stamina, attack, defense or give you some elemental resistance. Personally me I chose to always go with the Chefs Special because it always gave the max stamina and health. Plus it would then give a boost in the other three, its always random but I liked going into each hunt with max health and stamina.

Next on the list is hunt, sometimes you go on a hunt to carry on the story or sometimes you may be looking to craft something. Which brings me to the last of the loop which is craft. The stronger monsters have better armor and weapons so your goal is to keep fighting stronger monsters so you can craft better armor and weapons so that way you can be better equipped to fight stronger monsters. That’s the loop and you just keep doing that over and over again until your heart is content.

The game has plenty of weapon options which allows for almost any playstyle. When I first played the game in the beta, I leaned towards the bow and arrow which feels great to use but in the beta, I struggled against the Nergigante which forced me to try different weapons. I wound up using the sword and shield, really liked that so when the full game was released I immediately went to that.

What drove me to keep playing this game is, it felt unique. I am having a hard time trying to figure out what this game reminds me of. Yes, its another loot based grinding game but the combat itself doesn’t feel like any of those kinds of games. The combat itself feels very unique and its refreshing to play something so different.

If I had to poke holes in the game, it would probably be its story. It’s just a very bland story that feels tacked on, I didn’t find it interesting at all. The on;y reason why I advanced the story was so I could open up new monsters, areas, and quests. Also, this is just a personal pet peeve but in all of the cut scenes that your character is in, they’re just an empty vessel. They don’t do or say anything, they just stand there, it’s just odd because all of the other characters would talk or at least be animated but yours just stands there.

One of the tougher questions I could ask myself is what is my favorite monster? I think I would have to go with one of the Elder Dragons and that’s the Teostra. I just thought it was a very cool looking monster. It kind of reminded me of a Griffin. It has a lion head with a flying dragon body. Oh, and it breathes fire, yea its pretty cool. That was the final armor set I went with because I liked the way it looked and I enjoyed fighting it.

Personally, for me, I put in over 70 hours in one week and I think I’m good. I have had a blast playing this game but now I’m starting to get that itchy feeling like its time to move on and try something new. But this is a game that I highly recommend for everyone, give this game a try and I’m willing to bet you will get your money’s worth.

Monster Hunter World can be a bit repetitive at times, but what RPG isn't? It's a fun game and the most fun I've had with a co-op game since Left 4 Dead 2. The only reason I'm giving it a 9 is because after you beat the main game, there isn't really that much left to do. The game lacks a lot of post-game content.

I didn't buy the game and would have never bought it myself, it was a present. The first 3-4 hours were really boring for me because I did not understand how to fight, what do the weapons do, how the monsters behave etc.

It's incredible ho much grinding is in this game. I have played more than 60 hours in the last 2 weeks and I just love to hunt, gather stuff and grind in this game. There is nothing I hate more than grinding in most games but it's something very satisfying about the mechanics in Monster Hunter World.

The weapons move and fight like in no other game. Holding the weapon in your hand feels like it actually has weight depending on the type of weapon and does what you would expect of that type of weapon. Many people say that the weapons are uncontrollable but I would say that it is only their lack of knowledge and skill that is uncontrollable. At first was having so much trouble controlling most of the weapons but then it clicked ! You start noticing what the monsters will do by the way they are moving, you learn their speed of attack, distance and you learn to time your attacks and movement. Dodging and then countering the monster's attack with an attack or series of attacks is just so satisfying. I started to play with a shield & sword until I learned how the fight goes and then tried all the other weapons. It is amazing how good some of the weapons feel in your hand.

I never thought I would like this kind of game but it's truly awesome.

It also has some problems too but for the most part the game is just awesome. I for instance would like to have motion controls/gyro aiming for the ranged weapons.

I could understand why some people would not like the game but that is valid when speaking about every genre/game.

Whatever it wants to achieve it does: hunt monsters and build equipment and your character in a very fun and satisfying way. Awesome job CAPCOM, you get a 10/10 from me !!! Totally worth the money especially since you can find it cheaper now than the release price. If I knew that the game would be so much fun I would have paid full price for sure.

There is so much content here and even though it´s a lot of online components all can be enjoyed offline alone, or with your CAT!

I will give it 10 cause it has so much to experience for the price tag.

First off this is a time consuming game, and expect to spend at least a hundred hours into for endgame / true ending. And its pacing is progressive, starting out quite slowly ( my initial hunts usually took longer than 30 mins ) and getting faster and harder the more you play it ( you eventually start doing speedruns ).

The story is just a placeholder, and isn't really good, but thats hardly the selling point / main appeal of the game. If you play games mostly for the stories and not its gameplay, than this game isn't for you.

The game is basically a huge collection of boss fights (the monster you hunt), with a LOT of harvesting and crafting mechanics in between. The monster (bosses) themselves are really varied and fun, and there are quite a lot of different weapon arquetypes (14 in total). Add all the different armor bonuses, and you have a gigantic amount of possible build combinations to fight each monster.

The combat takes some time to get used to, since usually both the direction and animation time can't be changed/canceled after you do an attack. So you have to pay close attention to the monster's animations to figure out your next move. Do you need to dodge, guard or counter attack? Do you have time for a slow but high damaging combo, or just a few fast attacks? I would recommend not switching weapons too much at the beginning. Just go with the one you like the most, and GET GUD with it before switching it out.

The multiplayer option is kinda of hit or miss. While there isn't any technical problem with it, I find it very frustating that the respawn stock is shared by all players. This means if someone dies too many times, the quest fails for everyone else as well. The good thing tho, is that you can play the entire game Solo if you so desire. However playing with a friend or good players is a total blast, and I haven't played such a fun co-op game mode since Mass Effect 3.

The crafting mechanic, which is quite a lot of the meat of the game is very fun and well polished. It makes it very easy to understand which enemies you have to kill in order to obtain what you want, And while there is some RNG when getting the mission rewards, the drop rate is high enought that you never feel cheated or bored from doing the same thing over and over.

In regards to its longevity, every week there are new events with special loot and new monster will be added for free, and if you want try out every possible weapon/armor combination expect to keep playing it for the rest of your life.

The biggest flaw that I see in it, is that a lot of tihngs go unexplained in the game. What does elderseal do? What does this skill actually do? What can a lot of the items be used for? How to use a given weapon? And so on.

So overall, if you like hard boss fights, have a lot of time to spare, and like to do character/build optimization, then go ahead and play this game, you will love it! However if none of those are of interest to you, you are better off playing something else.

The monsters that you fight vary from giant vore lizards, to lava fish, to a dragon whose scales are made of steel and attacks by making tornadoes, and just by looking at them you can guess mostly what they can and will do to attack. There are fourteen weapons that you can bring along on your hunts like the defensive and slow lance or the fast and nimble dual blades that can suit just about any ones play style. Most people I see that complain about the game, complain about the combat being slow and clunky, if you find that's an issue just pick a different weapon or understand you cant dodge while you are in the middle of a swing with a giant sword. Many also complain about the game being to easy, and while it is the easiest in the series, it picks up fast around the time you fight the anjanath, a fire breathing t-rex. Yet still, the game is not for everyone. Do note that there will be a grind, in it you fight monsters, carve them up and make weapons and armor from their dead bodies and use them to fight harder monsters and in turn carve them too. Don't come into the game expecting a good story too, while it is somewhat passable nothing about it is note worthy except for the cut scenes you get when you meet new monsters. While I do wish more monsters had unique themes, and more of the weapons designs were a little more bold, mhw Is an amazing game that you will enjoy if you are tired of games where you just mash the attack button and want a bit of a grind. This game overall was great .It was very well done but it does have some flaw to it .I think the farming aspect of this was boring but i was never put off by it .To be honest ,i was kinda addicted. The combat system and how the game plays can be off putting to players that has never played a monster hunter game before but this is still a good transition from the 3ds to the other consoles

    Cons:
    - Controls can be intimidating
    - The Handler is extremely dislikable
    - Trolls
At first, the controls can be intimidating. They seem a bit complicated and mixing that with the fast-paced gameplay of MH might scare some players off, but it just takes a little bit of time and practice to master. The Handler is... one of the worst/most annoying characters in gaming history (in my opinion) - she's always trying to get herself killed. Online trolls, as with any other game, will try to ruin the experience, but luckily devs are looking into ways to prevent this.

Definitely at least give this game a try!

It a great Monster game and It introduced a whole new group of people to this awesome series. Great quality of life changes, new visuals, amazing monster themes and the best updates and add ons. Just wish I can play as a cat again. 10 out of 10 would pet poogie again.

The game is graphically incredible; the armour, weapons, monsters, characters are all beautiful. The game is content packed and also has frequent updates and free DLC.

Other game companies should really look to Capcom and the Monster Hunter series and aim to tick all of the boxes this game has.

What is my only negative? The game is a little slow when loading on the standard PS4.

Great game. Difficult to get into as it has many layers but the overwhelmed feeling you get to start transforms into pure happiness over the complexities of the game. It has a depth that you, as the player, feel like you are discovering for yourself. The story is whatever but nobody is here for the story. Monster fights are great, the grind is fun, a lot of hours put in.

    Beautiful and rich maps
    Glorious monsters with superb animation
    Nice music
A lot of armor sets and weapons

Amazing game, the only con i can think is that it become a bit grindy with all the Low or High Rank stuff

Comparing to the stories in the Division and Destiny, the silly story in MHW is much better.
There are, however, and of course, features that can be improved. Art work of weapons in this game is lazy comparing to previous games. Most of the weapons are made too realistic for a monster hunter game, and end up being ugly and boring. Gathering hub is completely ignorable due to the unfriendly loading screen and automatic commute back to base, until they fixed part of this issue recently. Also, continuing update of content is crucial to a grind game, as players lose their interest after two months of hunting the same kind of monsters in the same maps day after day.
This game is not in fact comparable with Dark Souls and Bloodborne as some people think it is. It's all about hunting and crafting, and becoming good with different type of weapons and builds during the process. Be sure if that is what you are looking for and you will love it.

Great game with almost unlimited content. Lots of hours of joy even if you only go straight for the "history" missions. It's true it doesn't have as many monsters as other MH games but it has enough to make you play for (in my case) 95 hours. Furthermore, it will be receiving more and more content in the future so I will probably come back and play it more someday soon.

The battles with the monsters with names the devs probably came up with when they were desperate to win a game of Scrabble last so long that the monsters either fall asleep or get bored and leave the area, allowing you to realize that you’ve wasted 5 hours of your day trying to chase down the fish monster from the Host. When you start to have a mental breakdown from constantly trying to kill a fat lizard only to have your progress go to waste because of that FRICKING T REX GUY, you should calm down, take a deep breath, and remember that Vanilla Ice is the greatest rapper of all time. Honestly, if the Low and High Rank portions wasn’t as polished and an incredible experience to go through. This score would be 7/8 margin just because compared to previous games, the rotating event quests, RNG investigations for RNG loot, reduced weapon and quest pool, and less challenging solo player end game. But, with the incredibly constructed world, incredible combat experience, and cohesive experience, the downpoints are more just demands for more content.

I won't rehash the problems I had with World simply because they make me profoundly sad. I wanted to like the game, I hoped the new direction would bring the series to a new level, but instead, the whole thing blew up in my face like a Marshmallow Peep left in the microwave too long.

Moving to real consoles has paid off for Monster Hunter. The fifth installment is bigger, nicer and funnier (a bit). In addition, a number of free addons will extend the entertainment for another dozens of hours. [Issue#283]
