[Update 4/24/17] - A lot of the technical issues have been patched and I haven't run into anything crazy in a couple of week. Bumped from 8 to 9.

This is simply put the best baseball video game I've ever played. The graphics, controls, feel are all top notch in my opinion. So far I have only played RTTS, but it has been great so far.

I've been buying this game since it first came out and it gets better and better each year.
I've sold my PS4 because my Xbox One S sufficed for my gaming,, ended up buying a PS4 Pro just for this game. So i'm playing a $400 game right now lol.
In any case, I figured it would be the same as last year. It is somewhat. Graphics seem a bit sharper, more animations, movement looks much

The main thing about this game is that I have an unusual last name, but somehow when I create my player, they have my name there even announcing it as well! That is a SUPER PLUS in my book. Other games like NBA, Fifa, Madden do not have this. This goes to show you the attention to detail, especially the littlest things, matter to these group of developers and team that make this game.

Get this game, you will not be disappointed. It especially has a pretty fun throwback classic mode where you can pick up and play with a friend like the old RBI Baseball days.

A couple bugs and an unresponsive server bring this game down from a 10, but I'm sure they will be fixed, just like last year. Road to the Show's new RPG elements bring a fresh new twist to the mode. A worthy addition to the series.

MLB The Show 17 has to be one of the best in the series. The graphics has improve a lot and if you run PS4 Pro it will look gorgeous. The new road to the show is also great they added an rpg element to it making it that much interesting. This is a must buy for all baseball fans.

P.S. This game needs a team relocation option in franchise, create a team to replace a current one at the beginning of the season and have the ability to create a stadium and replace current ones.

MLB the show 17 is a step up from last year's installment, you instantly take notice of this by creating your character in the Road To The Show mode. You start off by choosing your primary position, throwing hand, and your batting hand. Once that is complete you will then choose which region you want to represent West, Central, East or International; from there you will go through the customization process of your character. The customization in this year's installment is much more depth this year compared to others. Once you are done creating you go right into scouting day and hope you perform well to impress the scouts to go play for a major league team and they're farm teams, and from there you will go through the MLB draft. Another great installment this year is dialogue and the more personal interactions with your coaches from batting all the way to the head coach, this makes me feel like there are good and bad relationships with the coaches depending how you perform on the field. So you take control of your created custom player and make your impact on and off the field in the MLB and win the world series and become a legend and hope to be inducted into the MLB hall of fame.

That is not all that is back, Diamond Dynasty makes it's creating your fantasy team by opening up packs of players spending currencies on players etc , you can also unlock equipment in various modes especially in the road to the show, but in diamond dynasty it's all about building your fantasy team and proving your the best.

Ball physics plays another major role in this year it's no longer linear when the ball is in play it can change direction a little if it hits the slightest bump, hits a foot or even bounces off a glove this is quite a nice edition because it makes it that much more realistic and I love that it feels that way. Another new edition that has been added this year but is very lackluster is Retro Mode if you remember games like Ken Griffey Jr present Major League Baseball that came out in 1994 it's almost exactly like that and it is a mode I did not enjoy at all because of the controls, but if you are new to the baseball this may be a good mode to get you started.

MLB the show 17 is a step up from its predecessors with the all new ball physics, the dialogue in The Road To The Show mode, dynamic difficulty adjusting, and deeper customization this is a must pick up this spring.

    MLB the show 17: 9/10

I am so good at this game. I hit a HR every time up and strike out everyone on one pitch.

I was a great athlete when I was younger and people would ask me to give them a kiss for luck before I would play an athletic exhibition. My best sport was called disco dancing and I would wear the most velvet of garments that would not leave nothing to the imagination because they would be so

I have always loved the Show and the fact that you can carry over your franchise from YTY makes it a definite annual purchase.

I have been an avid Show player over the last four years, and I think the newest rendition of the game is the best one yet. The smooth actions and reactions of the players has made the game the most realistic version yet. One thing I have always had a problem with with these games is the baseball IQ of it. Still the best/most authentic baseball sim there is, nothing comes close. However I have to say this year's version feels off. Loved the new fielding animations, extremely loved the new ball physics, loved the new ways you can get a hit (grounder between 1st and 2nd). However the graphics to the gameplay (especially hitting) feels off, almost like its arcadey now. In mlb 16 when you hit a line drive up the middle you smoked it, in this game it feels like "pew pew pew" slow liner up the middle. Hitting this year also feels way more luck based than prior years, you center a recticle on a high fastball to and get "good" timing to get a bloop fly to shallow center? Theres like 25% more lag in online play than mlb 16, the whole rewards aren't as fun to achieve as last year. New modes like retro and revamped story rtts is nice, but it's icing on a cake (and i don't like icing). Difference asside from last years the show, as a baseball fan I can't complain nor should any baseball fan, it's the same game and same studio, just not as good as last years imo. Expand

Another year and another MLB game. I like baseball and The Show games so I was excited to get myself a copy of the game. With the mentality of if it ain't broke don't fix it works here. And honestly there isn't much you can add to a perfect sports game anyway.

I did, however, play MLB 15 the show and didn't particularly like it. But this one has gotten a good old groove back. While having multiple modes to play with like the ever so popular Road to the show, this time it has added commentary in the back and guides you through what it's like to be a professional ball player. nothing so innovative but at the same time, it's a good change. And when you're trying out to be drafted it's always fun to compete with your friends to what team you get drafted by. I was chosen by the New York Yankees affiliate squad and felt at awe when they chose me. lol however if you don't like what team chooses you, you can always opt out and wait it out a year or more by choosing to go to college. it's really interesting all the new aspects they've shown. The graphics are definitely polished and clean looking and wonder how they would fair if you had a ps4 pro. And also the new game mode that I've barely gotten my hands into is Diamond Dynasty seeing that I'm fairly new to this mode I decided to buy some packs and man was I hooked. it feels like playing Ultimate Team on Fifa. It sure is fun, seeing what players or accessories you pull. Even though they cost money, or you could grind out and use your own stubs. Overall I'm pleased with all the new additions they've made and how you can seamlessly change the settings to how you would like to play the game. If you've come from the old mechanics when guessing the pitch and choosing what strike zone they will through. I definitely think this is a must if you're a baseball fan. Expand

The game has improved its graphics substantially and also the ball is more alive than ever. The gameplay is much more realistic and there is never a dull moment. Unless you are talking about the servers. SDS butchers the servers every year, lot of disgruntled fans right now. I am enjoying RTTS, the new RPG element is enjoyable. Game is a 9/10, servers cost it the extra point.

While it’s still got room to grow, what’s here is great for fans of baseball. MLB The Show 17 is a clear step up from 2016 in gameplay, presentation, and overall experience. Some control and commentary quibbles remain, but not enough to detract from what is the best in the series to date, and one of the best baseball games today. As a PS4 exclusive, Xbox players should be envious.

Changes in physics and AI make the game more realistic and enjoyable, but there are still some issues with AI player decision making that can detract from the final product. Road to the Show mode is still fun with a new documentary twist, but it's ultimately the same mode as last year. The Show 17 is a good title for baseball fans new and old, but don't expect anything mind blowing this time around.

MLB The Show 17 is still a great game of baseball but one that with each season seems less and less impressive compared to other sports games available. With a lack of competition, it's hard to not recommend. But with each year I'm still wanting to see the team at Sony San Diego push the envelope even if there isn't any competition to force their hand.
