There are no mechanics carried over from Minecraft - no crafting, no destructible environments, no ability to build structures - and many features such as The Nether, Mushroom Bios, Ice Bios etc are absent as well. Also, only a few items such as the pickaxes and fishing rods are real items from original Minecraft, ever other item is a new item made for this game, it doesn't feel like Minecraft, just feels like a Minecraft re-skin of a game totally irrelevant to the source game.

The core game has a lot of polish, don't get me wrong. Game is a lot of fun to play, and the enchanting system allows for lots of diverse play-styles and customisation. Levels although repetitive are fun, the loot system is well balance, good variety of enemies, great visuals and music etc. However, the game is tiny, the story is almost non-existent, the gameplay is not good enough to warrant a second play through and the fact that there is DLC already despite the small size is a real low blow as well.

I'm kind of just confused as to why this exists? If you're not going to bring anything from Minecraft except a superficial reproduction of its exterior then why even bother? I can't help but feel this is a cheap cash in rather than a creative spin-off title. Not a bad game by any means, but not worth purchasing I'd say.

    Mind numbing game.
It's not THAT fun but just enough to keep you playing!
If you have young kids you want to progressively initiate to RPG/Dungeon games, that is a nice first step. I have to admitt that even I find it some kind of fun! I love heading into quests much MUCH over my level range just for the thrill of it. No overly complicated skill trees, level-up choices, every

No overly complicated skill trees, level-up choices, every "enchant" you spend are given back to you when you switch gear, allowing to reinvest on fresh gear upgrades.

Had it been a full MSRP game of 60$, that would've been thievery but for ±20$ that makes sense!
I wouldn't figure myself playing this for years but once every now and then with the kids, it's worth it!

Although Minecraft Dungeons was and is fun, to me, it is a missed opportunity.

The game itself plays good enough, but the item drops could be optimized (I had around 8 unique bows/crossbows and not a single unique sword/mace/cutlass) and the randomness of effects is somewhat disturbing because it prevents you from either upgrading to the same weapon type (which might have different effects) or other weapon types (for the same reason). Also Minecraft Dungeons has some minor issues with texture flickering and loeading times. They are not insanely bad but considering I run a PS4 Pro with SSD the times are not that fast. I encountered one bluescreen on the course of my playthrough and one game breaking bug which had me restart the level. Considering it took me around 5hrs with extensive exploration that is not the best ratio.

The world itself is nice and I was pleasantly surprised by the length of some dungeons giving you a great explorative feeling. On the other hand the game design does not feel well implemented with huge backtracks or different exits leaving you behind with that "oh no I missed something"-feeling. Difficulty progression is very strange. The beginning is very easy and the last two levels are way harder. The game prevents you to play on easier difficulties if you reach a certain level cap. Interesting, yet somewhat bad decision for people that need to tone it down.

Overall the game is a lot of fun. The different difficulties and drop modes are nice. The mechanics are simple but fun. It can be very well described as solid casual gaming. I still think the game missed a huge opportunity because it actually is very fun to play but an explorative playthorugh takes only 4-6hrs which is even for the lower price tag not enough to me. Mojang and Microsoft could ve started something big with Minecraft Dungeons but they did it half hearthedly or maybe just did a first test?

The game hub is overly simple, not many possibilities of customization and although the Minecraft feeling is deeply integrated it also misses out on the roots. You cannot build, you cannot craft. You are not able to customize much. The story is pretty flat too. There are no skill trees at all.

Would I recommend the game? Probably yes if you like a very casualized version of Diablo and vanilla Minecraft mixed together that will hold up for 5 to 20hrs depending on whether you go straight or completionist. I really do hope that they will pick up this concept and attempt to go deeper and provide a more extensive feeling to compete with genre kings. I think people will love it and people already will like this one. It is just way too short.

Are you into Minecraft? I mean are you really into Minecraft and know all the lore that goes with it? If so this game is for you. I am not into any Mining or Crafting (which neither exist in this game) so this came off to me as the most generic dungeon crawler I've seen in a minute. This game has a story I didn't care enough to pay attention. The combat is like a bare version of Diablo. ItAre you into Minecraft? Diablo is so addictive I'm now thinking about playing it. This game was just a game I was playing to get through while listening to a podcast. Furthermore you can beat it in a afternoon if you want to. If you have Game Pass on the Xbox give it a try otherwise fully skip this game it isn't worth your time. Expand

I would recommend this game if you have friends that own it and can get it on sale, or wait for additional content to be added. As it stands now its not a terrible game, but it does get boring after a couple of hours. Playing by yourself doesn't make it harder but it makes it a lot more boring. I see potential in this game but at launch it's a 5.

There’s plenty to like about Minecraft Dungeons, and at £15.99 on PSN it’s terrific value for a game that you and your kids could beat in a weekend. It’s not especially difficult with four players and the light-hearted nature of it all ensures Minecraft fans will find plenty to love. It’s just a shame there’s no sign of the Minecraft’s primary mechanic, which would have been a great addition to the overall experience. It’s a good laugh and as is so often with co-op games, you’ll get the most out of it with your pals/family.

The epitome of good things coming in small packages, Minecraft Dungeons is simple, wholesome fun.
