The story is very very good and the new animation for all npc's and Artyom is much more believable this time around. The game is still hard as dicks on Ranger Hardcore while playing survival mode so that means if you want a challenge you will find one. And hard one at that. The gun play and weapon customization is now on the level on last light and that means more weapons such as the bicycle gun, flame thrower, Kalash 2012 etc.
I honestly think this is better than the original in practically every aspect and if you liked Metro 2033 you will and I promise this, you will love the Redux to Bits. 10/10 4A knows what they are doing. Fantastic game !

Pure awesome. I haven't played the original game but the redux is absolutely gorgeous on ultra (running GTX 770 OC, 4.2Ghz i5 4670K). Loved the story, it's pure AAA+. I can see now why this game is so underrated. Can't wait to play the sequel!

I really enjoyed this game throughout. It seemed original, fresh, and challenging. If you are looking for something different and you enjoy first person shooters, go for this game. I got the redux package for $20, and played it almost non-stop. Worth every penny.

Three words: Atmosphere, immersion and horror like tension. Rarely has a game intrigued me as much as Metro 2033. In the age of big open world games, Adrenaline fueled shooters and games with shallow gameplay, Metro 2033 was a breath of fresh air.

Metro 2033 is a post-apocalyptic FPS game with horror and survival elements. Emptying your magazines to quickly will result in a savage death, but taking a careful approach by using stealth and precision will keep you alive in the metro and moscow.

The game is linear, with a well made pacing and characters who you meet along your journey. in between missions in the hostile metro you'll be visiting metro stations where you can buy, trade and/or upgrade your weapons, and stock up on ammo and equipment. The way this is done gives the player a moment to breath after an intense section, after which they will be thrown into a new challenge. In addition, this makes the game feel like a true videogame, as it is friendly towards the player.

The gunplay feels responsive and yet not too easy. Sound is exquisite, and even the graphics look good for a game that originally came out in 2010. As in the intro, atmosphere and immersion are key here, as you'll be carefull while travelling, and one mistake can end up with you being swarmed by mutants.

The game offers a very interesting story based on the Metro series books, which is one about survival and heroïsm. It has a moral system, which can give you two distinct endings.

This game astonished me with the way it entertained me, immersed me and made me feel like a was playing a videogame and not an over marketed engine showcase. This game blew my mind, and i award it a 10/10. I want more games like this.

    Excellent and very believable atmosphere
Characters and story are brilliant - amazing pacing
The gameplay is great but it gets repetitive sometimes times, especially for the lack of different monsters (something good in Last Light)
I loved the possibility of make different paths within a few levels - I love games that have this mechanics because it gives freedom to the player.

The game plays fantastic, I don't believe I encountered any major issues, and what minor issues I did encounter, they were so few and far between that I barely noticed them. The game has been updated slightly for the more modern audience, and to fit better with Metro: Last light. The weapons have been updated, there are new sections in the game that help bridge chapters together better, and the game allows for both stealthy play styles and Rambo play styles. You can do either of these on the new game modes, "Survival" and "Spartan". Survival is closest to the original Metro 2033's design, where ammo and supplies are hard to find and in limited quantities in the world, and more expensive in shops. Spartan is more Metro: Last Light and a more traditional FPS experience, where ammo and supplies are plentiful and a lot cheaper in shops. On top of the new modes, you can customize your experience even more with the intricate difficulty system. Normal offers your standard game play, and the higher up the difficulty chain you go, the more damage enemies deal to you, the more damage you deal to enemies, the less you find supplies in the world and the more expensive they get in shops. Your HUD gets more and more limited too. Mixing a beautiful and masterful blend of horror, survival and action, Metro 2033 Redux is a fantastic game, and a perfect example of how remasters should be done. Expand

Of course nonlinearity in the form of 2 endings is at all killed with the sequel. It is possible to refer firing (it is executed quite clumsily) to shortcomings and those that a game doesn't frighten at all. More true kind of there are frightening moments, but screenwriters as can't deliberately develop further them, there is no suspense.
Just one of the best corridor shooters in a post-apocalypse genre.

Everything from the story, to character animations, to the utterly brilliant use of lighting makes this an experience not easily forgotten. But this isn't a perfect experience. The limited resources offered to the player on higher difficulties mixed with large numbers of soldiers, mutants, and other enemies that can take ridiculous amounts of Kalashnikov fire to the face means that you will be constantly searching nooks and crannies to find just a few rounds of ammunition. This lengthens the campaign in a cheap and repetitive way that may take you out of the experience. Yet the strengths of this game are so numerous that a bit of cheapness on higher difficulties is a slight annoyance if any. 9 out of 10. Expand

If you play with Russian audio you don’t get any English subtitles for 70% of the npc dialogues. And to add to that, one time I could overhear an enemy talking by carefully sniping down another enemy and that quite hard to get unique dialogue goes on for like a 5 min which they for some reason decided to translate while many others are only in Russian. I don’t want to play it in English because immersion hey! All in all the translations seems very simplified since everyone speaks far longer than the short text shows up.
It’s often a bit hard to figure out exactly where to go next since you only got one compass pointing in one direction and no flashing spots on the screen. Both good and bad.
The female characterisation in these games feels medieval.
I find myself wishing this game were made by the people behind Dying Light. But it’s still a playworthy game today! I’m looking forward to get to the 3rd game Exodus but if you haven’t played any of those yet I suggest starting with Exodus.
Or why not try Fallout 4 if you haven’t already?

It may even be of interest to gamers who played the original game. 4A studios didn't just did this redux for easy money they wanted to do a better game.

The story and the atmosphere are among the best in the FPS genre (Bioshock, Wolfenstein: New Order level), it's unique, immersing and pretty damn cool. Unfortunately for a game that doesn't propose any other mode than its story it is a little short (around 10 hours) when I consider this kind of game should last at least 12-15 hours, like its sequel (Last Light) did, so it isn't ridiculously shorts but could have use more levels.

Gameplay wise the game offers the choice between a very action loaded style or a more stealth/survival style , personally I think that the survival style is more in line with the story but it's good that you have the choice. The different difficulties are well dosed and really go from extremely easy to almost impossible, really a great job to satisfy every kind of player. Now concerning the level design it is very good but not perfect and I feel like the game lacks of memorable moments. It's very good and regular but not exceptional.

So to summarize Metro 2033 Redux is a very good game and could even interest the owners of the original game, but it lacks a few more hours and great gameplay moments to make it a mandatory buy. Still a great FPS very advised.

Kind of easy to just snipe people but fighting humans is fun. The mutants get old pretty fast and are reused a ton but the occasional demon is cool. The librarians were fun as well and just barely didn't overstay their welcome. Great quick pivot to stealth there. I loved learning more about the factions that exist. Bad ending makes sense and is cool that we build off it and it is hard to avoid. Tihar/Volt Driver was fun gun as well, complemented the AR, Shotty to make a memorable arenal. Expand

The story-line itself is bordering on the crazy but also believable at the same time with humanity all retreating underground in the Metro after nuclear fallout and then end up starting small wars with each other over petty ideology. Throw in an endless supply of disgustingly mutated monsters coming at you from all angles without warning and you have an awesome few hours of fun!

My only gripes really are the small selection of weaponry available and the limited customization allowed on them. Also the somewhat heavy and slow feel to the controls. I had to increase the sensitivity level to maximum and it still felt a little slow, but that may just be me. Overall Metro 2033 is a basic game but has solid graphics and game play, a fantastic original story-line, but ends as quickly as it starts. 7/10.
