    Good, but an unfinished product and marred by Kojima & KONAMI office warfare.

    Upon playing this game a lot, AI is incomplete and incredibly exploitable as well.

    A real shame that this was the end of the Metal Gear franchise.

    This is some good stuff, the gameplay is just incredible and the story is good too... but the gameplay mmmmm the best, ya gotta play this (I like the cassette thing too cuz you can listen to the final countdown in the game while doing a mission)

Unfinished, uninispired, absolutely no care put into anything other than gameplay, the story feels like a bad fanfiction written in the early 2000s, the main voice actor replaced in a disgusting fashion after almost 20 years of voicing the character...

    The gameplay is good, not amazing, just good, but what is the point, if what awaits you after it is an empty soulless base riddled with free-to-play mobile app mechanics and the entire game is worse than FFX-2's "open the map and go do a quest there, then come back to the ship".

    A disgrace to the series, literally the worst way to end it on, and I hope it stays dead. MGS4 was the only end we needed.    … Expand

    Конечно же увольнение Кодзимы...
    Вырезанная последняя глава... Из-за чего игра как-будто обрывается на полуслове.
    На старте я и куча народа, независимо от платформы, не могли поиграть в онлайн. Их кормили странной ошибкой. Хз как это решилось, но щас в онлайн пускает...Тока там никого нет уже...    … Expand

This game is a PS4 masterpiece, the best in the series in terms of gameplay/mechanics, genius diversity of controls and choices, the base building and recruting is complicated and fun, which gives the multiplayer the meaning it needs, the intro is the best I’ve ever seen in a video game, the smart/shocking plot twost ending makes you relise the greatness of this game and it’s plot, the characters, bossfights, soundtrack were all badass and great, not to mention the cassette dialog, long but never bored of it

    It is such a pity that the last few missions are just harder versions of the former ones. And the online features seem quite annoying to me. If there were no drawbacks above, it would have been a perfect game.

    A mission by mission structure where you choose your loadout before each mission but unlike Peace Walker, for a cost, you can change your loadout mid-mission via supply drops by individually selecting an item or by calling in a pre-made loadout. Great for switching play styles without wasting too much time.
    The gameplay is great from the stealth aspects to the gunplay. I personally didn't use the reflex mode but it is a good addition to the game as it preserves the flow of sneaking through the large areas. I found it to take away some of the challange and if you're quick enough (or lucky) you don't need it ;)
    The difficulty is where it should be. Not a hard game but can get the better of you if you're complacent.

    As a story, for what little it has, it's just kinda meh.

    The game has one of the best openings as a long narrative sequence escaping a hospital thats being attacked by people that want you dead.
    But if you like this style of game then too bad! Go spend 30-50 hrs doing run around missions until the game feels like exposition dumping the rest of the narrative to you.
    Granted the missions aren't bad to play. But not even half of them need to exist as they have no real purpose in the story other then building up Diamond Dogs and "bringing the legand back to life". In other words: get money, kidnap solders, waste time (especially the repeat missions).    … Expand

You cannot actually determine when an enemy will realistically see you or not based on things like lighting, stance, distance. It may as well just be random, as there's absolutely no consistency from what I've experienced. Enemies can only be 'held up' if you approach from behind, which again, makes absolutely no sense. Instead, you have to make your own workaround where you choke an enemy, let them go, and then hold them up, just to then tell them to lay down. All of this...or the developers could have just had a bit more common sense and let you 'hold up' enemies from the side and front if you get close enough.

    People calling this the greatest stealth game of all time are out of their minds. Of the dozens I've played so far, MGSV pretty much just average at best. You do get a lot of bang for your buck, but half of that bang isn't worth the time, honestly.    … Expand

    This may be my entry to the Metal Gear franchise but it's one of my favorite game from the last generation. I can say it has a lot to do with Moby Dick book since i was reading prior playing this. I really immersed into the story.

    This game is the best stealth game i have ever seen.gameplay is very extensive and i enjoyed it.story is good but not like the other game of the series.side_ops are repetitive and the whole map looks the same.
    At the end game is very ggoe and i recomend it.

    Metal gear games have never been my thing and this game shows just why. This game is missing fun and the world feels way too empty. The enemy AI is not good and story feels underdeveloped. There are some good things about this game like the graphics and stealth combat for example. But the bad things outweigh the good for me in this game.

    Picked this up on PS4's winter sale for $6. First and only metal gear game. I wish I got the enjoyment out of it that so many others do, but I found the story forgettable and most of the time I just drifted to my phone out of bordem, game play is clunky (even for a 2015 game). Graphically it's fine. It's not bad but also nothing special.

Everyone complained about metal gear 4 not having enough gameplay and too many cutscenes that it seems like thats why they made this game like this, its a open world game now and you use horse to get around lot of the time.     And it has the best gameplay, i dont think one can get a gamplay better than this, it is bugless and actually gives a feeling of tactical espionage operations Great game so 9 of 10.

    It is a must buy if you play games on the basis of gameplay rather than srory

    the game is devastating boring and repetitive, the story is just stupid, with weak characters and lame plot. the open world is completely empty, and there is literally nothing to do, except hiding behind rocks waiting the alarm goes down.

    If it wasn't for the story it is the best Metal Gear solid game so far. I played over 80 hour before I got tired of this game. I would say this is the best sneaking stealth action game soo far, even by now at year 2020.

    This was the first metal gear game series I had ever played and I enjoyed it none the less and simply became one my favorite video game series.if you haven't played it yet know that you are missing out on a great game and if you can please play the older ones ( start with MGS 3 )

    This game is simply a masterpiece. The story is great as always in a Kojima game. Great creative, intelligent plot with nice plot twists. The gameplay is a lot of fun. The open world is great. The characters are loveable. In my top 3-4 overall favorite games.

I know the MGS series require a certain taste in video games, and I did enjoy MGS IV, even though those cutscenes were a bit long and dragged on a bit. After seeing how good the reviews were for MGS V, I got it. The intro was definitely interesting but after a few hours of playing the game, it was not only frustrating because the controls weren't very precise (hit a bottle and the entire complex discovered me) or the fights weren't that interesting. The story got even weirder and I gave up after about 5 or so hours of playing it. This is definitely NOT a must play and you gotta really LOVE the series to like this game.… Expand

    I agree with the masses on the fact the story feels unfinished, but the stealth gameplay is second to none. Very innovative action gameplay and even after I'd completed the game I wanted to carry playing going from area to area finding new ways to trick the guards and complete objectives. Part mostly comes from the story which is supposed to be engaging if you are really long time fan but for me I just skipped it and have fun with the game play.     MGS 5 is a very polished game. Upgrading your mother base and equipment is very rewarding. Missions can be played out in numerous ways which adds a lot of replay value. The controls are intuitive and graphics are amazing. Overall a great game.

    My absolute favourite game of all time! If you like realistic stealth or action this game is perfect. The story isn't the best compared to other mgs games but it's still good and is giving the player a reason to care about the missions. The rest of the game is basically perfect.

    Even if the game has no proper ending and feels like an unfinished work, it is an out of scale masterpiece. Perfect gameplay, super robust game mechanics and enormous scale.
    It can be long and monotonous at some points...

    A god damn masterpiece. Worth every single penny, even if you don't like stealth games... because you can approach a scenario any way you want. It gives you so much freedom and creativity sometimes I wonder if something I did wasan't even meant to be in the game. And if even all that sounds bad, there's a cute puppy so just get the game for the puppy. But, there are some problems. TheA god damn masterpiece.     The best game i´ve played for the ps4, top notch gameplay mechanics, interesting story and characters, enviroment is great, missions are great, this was my first platinum trophy, a must play and is only like 5 dlls, what a joke.

    El gameplay de MGS V es increible, creo que llega al punto de ser perfecta, pero en lo que falla totalmente este juego es en su historia. La historia no llama mucho la atención, los personajes y los jefes solo están ahí porque sí, no hay ningún interés en profundizar con los personajes del todo. Es un muy buen video-juego pero su historia deja mucho que desear.

It's a very tedious repetitive game but you will find yourself in a lot of wtf???!! moments that make you laugh. The sound of his thighs rubbing together when running is ridiculous. The desert playground is just lazy. I don't really know how to rate this game. I liked just as much as I hated. solid 6 Igot ever trophy but one.     Bel gioco anche se perde molto nell'open world, stealth fantastico con dei bei personaggi comprimari. Note dolenti il fatto che sia uscito castrato ed anche il finale segreto che ci sta ma la grande conclusione di una saga come questa doveva avere un'altra fine.

    When you finish the intro, which is roughly 2hrs you could rate this game really so high. But that's not the case with the rest of the game. After the 5th mission you are done with the game. Its literally the same again and again, mission after mission. You just hope to end sooner.     As a MGS fan, i hated the game during my 1st playthrough on launch date for ps4 . I was hooked with the gameplay mechanics and the cassette tapes, loved the big boss creating outer heaven setting, but when i was near the end I could see something wrong about the whole story and events. By the time i completed the story I was so disappointed that I wish I never even played it. Almost 4As a MGS fan, i hated the game during my 1st playthrough on launch date for ps4 .     Gameplay is absolute genius, incredibly fun. Sadly, this is an unfinished game. Storytelling is very lackluster and all the motherbase stuff doesn't fit very well.

    A great and amazing stealth game, probably one of the greatest of all time. A terrible Metal Gear in every sense of the word, a former shadow of itself in the story department. A game that was clearly rushed with it's story and despite the amazing gameplay that is polished like no other in the franchise, it still is very hard for me to call this game a Metal Gear. A shame that KonamiA great and amazing stealth game, probably one of the greatest of all time. A terrible Metal Gear in every sense of the word, a former shadow of itself in the story department. A game that was clearly rushed with it's story and despite the amazing gameplay that is polished like no other in the franchise, it still is very hard for me to call this game a Metal Gear.     The game is great, The game-play, graphics, combat are just great but as MGS fan the incomplete story was very disappointing, it leave you wondering : why did they chose wait for years just to not let Kojima finish it....

    I love this game. I spent in its world. It really is fun how the mechanics are handled. While I like the mkre linearly designed MGS games, I was still able to have a blast with this entry. Story has its great moments, with the expected Kojima cheese sprinkled every now and then.

Este juego me gusto y esta muy bueno pero la historia al estar inconclusa perdio mucho potencial ya que despues de pasarmelo 2 veces y desbloquear la "ultima mision" es obvio que falta la verdadera conclusion pero debemos conformarnos con un juego sin final :(
    En gameplay y rejugabilidad si esta bien y me gustaron las mecanicas ya que los unicos metal gear que jugue fueron este el rising y el peace walker y megusto la evolucion que tuvo en terminos de movimiento le pondria un 8 o 9 si fuera un juego completo pero desgraciadamente solo nos queda como continuacion el survive y no gracias    … Expand

    For me is a surprise how they completely changed the game and still managed to make a master piece. Yes, i dont like this episodic missions system and the story end is not the best. But gameplay is perfect, performance and grapics are incredible, this new feature of building your own mother base is super fun in multiplayer. An open world MGS game sounds like a good idea but it just doesn’t work for me, this whole game just felt so foreign compared to all the previous installments.     Well, when this game started, my expectation was high. The opening scene couldn't have the metal gear face anymore. A real spy film from the 80's was like seeing an old friend, the open world added to the new basic management mechanisms that but it could be a mini game for mobile phones, they didn’t manage to take away the shine of solid gameplay that gives us infinite options to completeWell, when this game started, my expectation was high.     I imagine that if you have never played an MG this game will bring many new things that can please you without being too strange for taking a more modern model close to Far cry, now if you are a fan of the series like I say to lower expectations because unfortunately the part that suffered the most with the open world and being able to do the missions in any order was the story that seems often disconnected.

    The absence of big CG and the presence of only 1 really iconic boss fight and 2 others that are ok, this is undoubtedly a much better experience as a generic open world game than as a metal gear.    … Expand

    The mechanics and game play are absolute perfection. The music is great. The story was fun. This game was just all-around excellent. There are so many ways to approach every mission and still be successful. Upgrades and such were satisfying and didn't just feel like checking boxes.

    The ONLY issue is that, toward the end, something just felt off. I feel like this game was supposed to have several more chapters, but they just stopped. I know there were extra post-game chapters and some specifically that dealt with the kid (no spoilers), but they felt out of place with lots of filler missing in between. You'd repeat old chapters but they'd be stealth or higher difficulty, but then there would be new story chapters peppered in between. It was really odd.

    If the game had been 100% completed or just ended after the final boss battle, this would be one of maybe 5 games that I'd ever give a 10/10.    … Expand

    Played this game because it was a PS+ free games. It was ok but I've never played any Kojima games before and this type of shooter games are just not for me. The convoluted story also didn't help.

    Отличная игра. Жаль что не переведена на Русский, только субтитры. Можно и на 200 часов зависнуть. Очень много разных мелочей которые надо учитывать.

    The holy grail of world-building games, it’s argued, is a black box that lets players do as they like with minimal handholding. Pliability with just the right measure of accountability. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, a tactical stealth simulation wrapped in a colossal resource management puzzle inside a love letter to theatrical inscrutability, comes the closest of any game I’ve yet played to realizing that ideal.

    There’s no denying the Game of the Year potential of The Phantom Pain. The campaign is absolutely massive, it’s almost too much to cope. That being said, Chapter II is a huge let-down and feels like artificial padding. Still, this is about as good as tactical espionage operations can get in a video game. [Oct 2015]
