I'm truly disappointed, as a recent Metal Gear fan (I've played the collection a few month before playing Ground Zeroes) this feel just like Kojima has been forced to take part of the Phantom Pain experience to cash in some money for Konami. It's a shame because the gameplay (but not as much as others MGS because of the lack of tool/weapons), the graphics and the story are still amazing (and I do recommend to play it if you want the link between Peace Walker and Phantom Pain). It was just way too expensive, half priced (15€/$) or a rent are the best way to play it without having the feeling of being Konami's cow.

Let me just start off by saying this game was extremely short, way too short. I know this is just a prequel to the actual game Metal Gear solid V: Phantom Pains coming out in 2015. But this was not even worth the money. The graphics obviously seemed pretty good, but for such a famous franchise, and to be on next gen, it just looked so rushed it's like they didn't even care.

i was aware this was a demo of sorts (although it wasn't ostensibly advertised that way if you ask me) and that i was probably being ripped off ($30 are you f*cking kidding me?), but what disappointed me the most was the fact that there is only one map in the entire game. 5 missions on the same map - not even close to being open world. a touch of the open world of phantom pain is what ii was aware this was a demo of sorts (although it wasn't ostensibly advertised that way if you ask me) and that i was probably being ripped off ($30 are you f*cking kidding me?), but what disappointed me the most was the fact that there is only one map in the entire game. 5 missions on the same map - not even close to being open world. a touch of the open world of phantom pain is what i think most people were hoping for. the missions got old pretty quick because of the redundant environment. decent gameplay, not great. the controls are a bit inconsistent, eg first person aiming while crouching or prone by ledges or mounds of dirt will work sometimes but not others, getting in and out of vehicles is not as fluid as it should be, the AI is very weak. adding an option for gameplay without the cheesy music would've been a nice touch, but alas, you're forced into hearing the soundtrack. i have huge expectations for phantom pain, and i'm sure it will be awesome, i'm just sad we weren't able to get a proper taste of it in ground zeroes. It took me 53 minutes to complete the main mission. There are five or so "side missions" USING THE SAME MAP. That's it, that's the entire "game". Yes, the voice acting, graphics, gameplay etc are outstanding. But to market this as a full game is very deceptive.

Also, the graphics and lighting are stunning; FOXEngine is amazing and produces the best lighting, shadowing, and graphics in console gaming to date. I highly highly recommend this game and series.

But besides that, the game it's simply perfect the better stealth experience that i have during all my life.

The graphics are the best that i seen in so many time!.

And even it's a ahortly history, i was schocked when i see Mother Base destroyed, the Miller reaction and all the Paz thing was simply perfect.

After you play this, the only thing you want is that the Phantom Pain comes quickly to your PS4 to play it!!!

Metal Gear Solid V was a great addition to the already great franchise of games Kojima has released. I'm not sure why people have given this game such bad reviews. Yes the game is short. but there are still a solid 8 hours of gameplay. At least it looked wonderful. the lighting in this game was beautiful.
I would suggest playing if your into Metal Gear Solid

Of course that is why this game is out to help us with the open stealth style of gameplay. There is sadly a lack of the CODEC system which is kinda sad for a fan of this game since the original MGS. The graphics are great and the options for infiltrating the camp are pretty varied. There are collectables and some bonus missions to keep you playing for another hour and a half or so. But that is a problem in its own. The game is extremely short, even my sister who is not the best gamer out there beat the first mission in two hours and twelve minutes. In total it took her about four and a half hours to beat the game. It took me about three. So to sum up the positives are graphics, fun, and makes me really want the Phantom Pain. The negatives are animations on running, controls feel a little stiff, lack of content for price, and no CODEC. Also as a side note oddly enough when interrogating enemies Big Bosses voice is audio but the answer the enemy your interrogating is just text at the bottom of the screen. I got this game at just 15.99 American dollars which is better then the thirty some paid but still not as good as Dead Rising: Case Zero which was only five dollars and took me about an hour or two more than this game. Others have mentioned the length issue so I won't retrod that ground. All I want to know is: What in the hell is happening to the Metal Gear franchise? As someone who played since the beginning of Metal Gear back on NES, I've watched as the game has changed from action to tactical action to tactical espionage and, modernly, a "cinematic" experience. MGS1 and MGS2 undeniably had some lengthy codex sequences but they usually came in between lengthy periods of gameplay. Beginning with MGS3 and increasing throughout MGS4 and now MGS5: Ground Zeroes, the player spends most of their time listening to dialog or sitting in cutscenes with actual gameplay limited to sneak-and-shoot just long enough to trigger more dialog or more cutscenes. Even the story telling falls by the wayside, lost amid the spectacle of "did you see that cutscene!" hype.

At this point, I wish Kojima would just retire the series and turn it into the movie franchise he clearly has wanted it to be since MGS3.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. MGS GZ is not a game it is not a demo either, it is like a opening to a superhero show where the hero beats up other small time villains before getting to the main bad guy (skull face). There is no reason to buy this unless you are a hardcore MGS fan. There is no story here, you break into a base and you pick up Paz and Chico. You figure out Paz has a bomb and she dies jumping out of the chopper to save big boss' life. Then the credits roll. The overall gameplay is stellar, the stealth aspects of the game are incredible and the game is a marvel to look at (unless you look very closely at the walls and floors). The main mission can be beaten in a span of 10 minutes and the side missions are boring. All you do is rescue another guy or kill two guys or blow up some turrets. You have to collect various XOF patches to unlock the last two missions and it just feels like padding. This game is worth 5 dollars no more. While I am confident that the phantom pain will be an amazing game that will blow minds. However stay away from this title or wait until a price drop. Expand

Excellent graphics, the lighting and rain look amazing, seriously one of the best looking titles i have played so far on the ps4. The controls feel alot more fluid than the last metal gear i played (MS4), which i found clunky in the extreme. The narrative content is typical Kojima fare, which some people dont gel with and while im no fan boy i enjoy. Overall i think its excellent, as a preview for metal gear five, i have gone form being indifferent to the release to keenly anticipating it, i will def be purchasing it now based on this brief gaming experience. I would have been disappointed to spend $40 (here in australia) for a level i could blitz in 10 mins, but that cant detract from whats being presented, which is although short an excellent gaming experience, its a real shame to see the user score of this game drop to well below what it should be when reviewers only gripe by and large is the price they paid for the game and not the experience itself. The last time i played an MGS game was quite a few years ago, and its great to see how this prequel to MGS the phantom pain has expanded the options for how you approach each of the missions. Run in guns blazing or take the more stealthy approach. That's where this game shines. The stealthy approach offers a lot of opportunity for creative play.

Unfortunately, after a few play through's you start to wish for the expanded arsenal promised in MGS phantom pain. This game just serves to whet your appetite for the next release. And thats where it loses points for me. For all its got going for it, its just missing alot to be called a full fledged release.

First of all, I am a fan of MGS series. I didn't play all the games, but really excited to know that MGS V is about to release. So you can imagine my (and not only mine) surprise when I saw THAT. People can call this by different names, but definitely it cannot be called the GAME. But now I don't want to speak about how short this game.

But now I don't want to speak about how short this game. I don't want to tell again and again how unfair to pay $40 for THIS prologue/demo. Something happened to the game creators at the world, unfortunately including these gigantic game producers like Hideo Kojima. They, for some reason, began to lose. Something what they have earned by hard-work, something what can not be returned by simple ways - their REPUTATION. And if KONAMI allows itself to publish the game in state like this, so we, the gamers, can understand just one thing - it's not about the reputation, unfortunately it's all about the money...
Let's leave that behind. There is still some technical/game problem that make the game even worse:
    1) When you move the weapon sight from side to side, sometimes the sight just jump to the left or to the right or you see TWO sights together until you don't even know where you gonna shoot.
    2) Have you ever seen in some game that your suppressor can worn out??? Oh, yeah. In this game you can hear something like this :" Now your suppressor worn out, so think before your shoot". Any logic???
    3) Map - reaaalllyy could be better.
    4) HUGE FPS drop when you inside the tank and using fps mode.

Well,of course there is many positive things like AMAZING graphics, incredible sound and spectacular actors playing, but anyway, there is some smell of "we payed for the demo and this is f...ed it up"...

I don't feel like I can give a demo that is trying to be sold as a game anything more than 0, What's there is great, but this was clearly just the first mission cut out of TPP (I'll actually go into a few points that show that this just the first mission taken out) with a few extra generic missions added in order to make people think it's an actual game. Now many people will argue that this isn't a demo but there's a few factors that just scream unfinished. First off, tons of features that were in older MGS games ( even ones in PW and MGS3) are missing from GZ (knocking, the box, hidding in trash bins, etc) now you could argue that they were just taken out of the franchise as a whole, but these basic features of MGS are all coming back in TPP which we have seen in the recent tgs/e3 demos, the second factor which was just a slap in the face from kojima, is that all the side missions are just the backbones of what you would expect to see in a MGS game like a retrieve intel, find target, destroy enemy base guns, and a full blown action rescue mission. No, its an amazing game and doesn't deserve it! Just because you CAN beat a game in 10 min doesn't mean you SHOULD beat it in 10 min!
