One of the worst games ever made, EVERYTHING about it is bad. Broken, buggy, nightmarish looking faces and animations, awful voice acting and wokeness, bad dialog. Belongs on a trash heap.

I did not play this game at release so by the time I played the majority of the glitches and issues had been resolved. I like the story and characters. The ability to jump added new mobility to combat and the more open world feel of the planets was also refreshing. Definitely not as good as the Mass Effect Trilogy in terms of story and characters, some of them I really didnt care about. It just needs some polish. The combat is amazing and the story is engaging. And there is a lot of content. I put in over 50 hours and I am still not done with the main story. There are some bugs but nothing that is game stopping. Well worth the bargain price it is now for a fun few hours

The irony is, because the plot is so rote, there never seems to be any sense of urgency or anything at stake. I think my biggest issue with the game is just how low budget it all feels. Almost like the made for TV film equivalent of what was at one time an awesome masterpiece of a blockbuster. Even the combat is that basic bullet sponge exchange.

Honestly can't recommend spending any time with this game from what I've played so far. Although it may be worth experiencing for under $10. I guess it just follows that trend of once great licenses dropping the ball this decade.

An end of a legendary game series for me. I have spent hundreds of hours of previous mass effects but this is just unplayable. The shallow writing is just too much. Storytelling was the foundation of Bioware, but it has since morphed into this horror.

Update: After dropping support for this game within 6 months of release for an even worse game, Anthem cough cough, that they also gave up on review went down. The game really suffers by being developed by a c team with no fault of the people who worked on the actual game, but the bugs and incomplete tweaking of things that never happened really makes the game suffer. Honestly, I think the game would have done much better if it didn't have the name Mass Effect in its title. Instead, it should had been advertised as a game "based" in the Mass Effect universe. It is entirely possible for 2 different games to exist in the same universe. Just look at Apex Legends and Titanfall and I'm sure there are other examples out there. This is how I look at the Mass Effect original trilogy and Andromeda, 2 different games with different protagonist and different enemies coexisting in the same universe. If you play Andromeda before you play the original trilogy you will probably enjoy Andromeda more because you will go into it more open minded. As per the gameplay... Andromeda is what it would look like if Mass Effect and Dragon Age had a baby. If you played both those games, then Andromeda will be very familiar to you. There's so much to do that you probably won't beat the game in a week, it's possible if you just stick to the main storyline but there're a lot of side missions to keep you busy for a while. The online multiplayer community is still pretty active, up to a squad of 4 PvE. With all the characters and weapons, you can unlock you will be busy for a while as well. Multiplayer is connected to the single player campaign as there are some multiplayer missions if completed successfully will reward you with stuff that you can use in the single player campaign. Currently there are no DLCs for this game but I'm hoping one day BioWare with bless us with one or two. Expand

The outlines of the general plot and the setting are not bad at all, quite the contrary actually, however, whoever is responsible for writing the characters and their dialogues must've been taking huge dumps while doing so, because that's what the characters are — absolute shyt. Ryder is a spineless overgrown teenager whom (to whom! and your goddamn father…) most of his/her crew disrespect all the time. Tempest feels more like a freakshow whose members could use some time in the brig than a ship. At least Suvi can always "peck up something" for "Raider".

Another big issue is the facial animations or rather the lack thereof. I like to think the people got some Frostbite from the 600 years spent in cryo pods, and now their faces are tired from dealing with everything! Given that characters' lines won't make you laugh, the horrible animations is sadly the only thing that will.

The dialogue options don't seem to affect your game. You can only choose between being a whimp and, well, being a whimp with some extra cringe.

Also, why does every female krogan sound like a gay man?

The environments look great and the gameplay is pretty decent (not clunky like in the trilogy), which is a shame, as this shows the game had some potential. But unfortunately, some writer decided that only the most obnoxious people boarded the Andromeda Initiative ships…

With the launch of the legendary edition I decided to play through all the games including this one. I will say while not perfect it has a lot of major improvements over the trilogy. The overall combat mechanics are incredible. Combat is fast paced, responsive and highly customizable thanks to the new SAM profiles. Weapons can be crafted and modded letting combat really be whatever you want. The characters were great and some of the most engaging dialogue took place in the Nomad based on who you paired up. Some combinations like Liam and Vetra hated each other at first only to actually find a place of mutual respect as you continued to pair them together. Each character has unique attributes so playing with combinations always felt fresh and fun. Then there’s the Ryders. Bye bye rigid morality system. The new choice based system made feeling keyed into the choices so much easier. Some you felt the impact of in this game others will (hopefully) come down the line. It was nice to be able to approach situations more freely than simply good choice or bad choice. Ryder themselves was engaging and really had some incredible character development. The voice work was well nuanced (even if maybe the animation wasn’t) and your character’s confidence and skills grew as the game progressed. Now without any spoilers here, the story was awesome! Yes it’s way more open world than the prior entries but it’s meant to be. This is an unestablished galaxy for the Milky Way species and as such you have to form bonds of friendship and cooperation. There are a number of smaller challenges all over the locations to be solved as well as the main conflict. Speaking of, wow; talk about some big plot twists. All in all I found this to be an extremely enjoyable entry and look forward to hopefully getting a sequel as there were many many open plot lines. The future of the franchise is Andromeda. Expand

A nice RPG that allows you to build a colony in a galaxy far, far away. The gameplay is nice, even though they were plenty of known bugs that were never fixed.

Unfortunately, the storyline is a bit childish, predictable, and - in some places - incosistent. The idea of exploring a dangerous, new galaxy and meeting an unknown race that you can't communicate with was exciting, but ended up with your AI being able to quickly translate languages so there's no more mystery or "first contact" issues. Exploration is also flattened to a level of "Cold Planet, Warm Yourself". It could have been so much more than this.
What is more, BioWare quickly abandoned this game due to backlash and caused more backlash among those who actually enjoyed the experience. It was especially painful for those who focused on multiplayer, invested their time and money, and got a product that was worse than what the previous game (ME3) offered.

As a fan of the Mass Effect trilogy, I was heavily disappointed with what Andromeda offered. It seemed as if they had a nice idea that they turned into a generic "good guys, bad guys" game and then threw it away.

It might be the biggest, most complex and action packed game in the franchise, but Mass Effect: Andromeda is also the least convincing one. The dated facial animations, the inconsistent writing quality and the regularly occurring bugs take you out of the experience too often. On top of that, BioWare has not used the concept of a whole new universe to its full potential, which often makes it feel like Mass Effect: Andromeda has not left our Milky Way at all.
