The game seems to have a lot of copy/paste side quests and exploration padding. I could spend literally several hours messing about here and there and not have any main story update. That did leave a disjointed broken feeling when getting back to the main story. Mining, research, upgrades strike teams and inventory management got to be a micro mange time waster drag.

Exploring new worlds was a load of fun. Lots of reading to do like the good old Mass Effects to keep the lore junkies happy. The flashy jet pack based combat and flashy driving was fun fluid and fast and never got old.

Pandemic retry and well this has not aged well. Seeing Mass Effect related stuff is always cool. The gameplay and combat is now kind of ( DAI ) repetitive and shallow. Already knowing the story and game world nothing any more new to see here sadly. The mystery box level or writing was really so much time wasting BS. MEA was a missed opportunity for sure. Looking like it was made by less talented people. compared to who made the previous three ME games.

Hard to believe this is made by Bioware. If you had told me this was a studio's first shot at an rpg, I would've believed you. There is definitely things to be enjoyed in this game, but it fails utterly as an rpg. There are no meaningful choices, you do not define anything about your character and the relationships with the companions don't change meaningfully either. The saddest thing is the lack of diversity in the planets. It feels like most of them are just some variation of 'desert', and I don't think it started like that, looking at concept art.
Just as bland are the companions, with most of them just being the bargain bin versions of the OT characters. The romances are equally disappointing. A couple of them have some nice scenes, but nothing on the level of other recent Bioware romances.
The game play is fine. Just fine. But I can't get over the fact that a game about space exploration has so little to explore.
The main story is incredibly shallow and you've seen it all before (in the other ME games!). Near the end they hint at some bigger things to happen (one hidden behind a boring collection quest), but those teases are left for a sequel I don't see happening.
Besides these issues, it's painfully obvious this game needed more time or better leadership. From things like the asari all having the same face, to the lack of a personality for Ryder, to the state this game was launched in, all make it clear Bioware was rushing near the end.

All in all I can't say I had NO fun with this game, but I couldn't be bothered to replay it and that's never happened to me before with a Bioware game.

Overall, I think it is a good game. The gameplay is the best in a Mass Effect game yet, but its thin paper characters and unsubstantial plot don’t let this game excel as great, and more importantly, as a remarkable Mass Effect.

Second: The open world element is just a huge disappointment. Bioware gave us a huge map with nothing to do. The maps are beautiful, but kind of the same. Big maps with some side quests and main quests and looooooooooooooong walks of nothingness.
Third: The combat system is the greatest things about the game. They've improved it so much in comparison to the other games in the series. It's more fluid this time around.
Fourth: I hate the Mako. I hated it on ME 1 and I hate it now.
Fifth: The graphics are good. The whole game is gorgeous and that's something a Mass Effect game must have. Beautiful places everywhere, whether it's a desert planet, a night-club or a ship.
Sixth: The music and the sounds are good, but those things in ME 2 and 3 were better.
Seventh: The romance and friendship factor is good.
Final note: Even though the game launched with horrendous facial animations and bugs and the story not being that interesting, the game succeeds to keep the player going for it's Mass Effect feel, with different worlds for you to go and races for you to meet.

There's a long list of poorly done thing about the game.
Starting with the characters, they are far worse than the characters of the original trilogy, way less memorable, some of them annoying and pointless to the story. Your crew (and other characters as well) is just a world's 'cultural' parade. Being a tanned, redhead, religious, lesbian scientist with Finnish name, Arabic surname and super thick Scottish accent will not make you an interesting character! The poor voice acting of Ryder, the protagonist, finishes the remains of the characters' hypothetical charm. Also, a 'Slavic' character speaks C2 English with thick-ašš "Russian" accent while pronouncing his name completely wrong. I'm tipping my hat.
Secondly, the graphics. They're fine but what's wrong with the faces! They look terrible and completely soulless like in many Frostbite games. What's worse, it's their face expressions and eye movement. Taken straight from the PS2 era.
Thirdly, the AI and combat are totally broken. It's just unloading clips and spamming super powers to finally kill those dumb enemies.
Andromeda follows up to M3's trend - decisions don't affect the story. Nevertheless, the story itself isn't that bad. The missions and bossfights keep repeating. At least the levels are much bigger than in the older games.
I'm a Mass Effect fan and I can say with a clear conscience this the worst Mass Effect game.
I, somehow, drowned 50 hours in this game. It kept me playing, worked on stable fps but I feel like 7/10 is rather a very generous score.

I did play the game through once. I played the ME trilogy through several times and still do so from time to time.
I tried to play Andromeda again just a couple weeks ago but couldn't find any motivation so I quit after I arrived at the first big main planet.
There are only a few characters I did like and care for.
All Asari look the same except for one or two.
    The combat is good.
The graphics are up to date.
The story is okay but the main missions are mostly the same just with a different planet setting.
The main villain looks anything but threatening.
This game is a slap in the face for every Mass Effect trilogy fan.
    I want Shepard back.

Update review - having just finished the game 50+ hours later I would avoid this game. It is so unbelievably repetitive and boring. You spend hours and hours driving around empty planets on meaningless and disjointed side quests. This game is so boring it has actually put me off gaming. Technically it looks great but its empty and hollow. 30 % of it was enjoyable 70% dull and I mean dull. Do not be tempted to play this as you will finish very very disappointed. Recently I played the original metroid on the NES and I was hooked for 15 hours straight and that game is over 30 years old because it was fun to play. This game is honestly like watching paint dry, doing maths or accounts.

The story was quite okay and I very much liked the idea of making a planet inhabitable again. I really grew close to the characters especially Drack, Jaal, PeeBee and Cora. The jetbag is a good improvement. On the bad side one must mention the (after years of time for improvements) still aweful looking facial animations. Especially the eye movement is it what ruins their expressions. The dialogues are often very weird and sometimes super creepy when flirting. There is too less main content and too much go-there-and-do-this-really-uninteresting-thing sidequests. It's a pity they didn't include a day-night cycle for the planets. Plants and other ornamental objects mostly have no physical structure you can touch, you slide right trough them like a ghost (I remember Mass Effect 2 already had a bump-into-things mechanic). Generelly the main character never touches things when you interact with something, he just taps on his multitool - this is lazy programming. Not to mention the huge amount of bugs and even some game crashes, I played this game 2021 on a PS5 - I am scared to think about how it must have been at realese date. EA really messed this up as usual but I love the Mass Effect universe so much that it was enough to like the game. In total I enjoyed playing and I think a Part 2 really could save this story. The Mass Effect trilogy was one of gaming's finest entries. Bioware, in creating Commander Shepard and his memorable allies in an iconic war against an alien species threatening to destroy all life, took a massive risk in creating a new Mass Effect game outside of the original trilogy. If I had picked up this game, having not played the original titles, and it was simply named "Andromeda",The Mass Effect trilogy was one of gaming's finest entries. Bioware, in creating Commander Shepard and his memorable allies in an iconic war against an alien species threatening to destroy all life, took a massive risk in creating a new Mass Effect game outside of the original trilogy. If I had picked up this game, having not played the original titles, and it was simply named "Andromeda", would that change how I viewed the games strengths and shortcomings? Possibly. During the 30 hours I spent in Andromeda, I attempted to play it, ignorant to the ties it had with one of the greatest game series of all time.

Andromeda is a big game. Its scale is enormous, but it fails to utilise this with anything particularly meaningful outside of the main questline. Lazy dialogue marrs contextually significant conversations, poor facial animations mean conversing with other humans feels a bit of a chore sometimes, and a strange lack of music or ambience in its hub areas means large parts of the game genuinely feel devoid of life. Poorly developed enemies mean there is no real feeling of threat other than in combat, and Andromeda unfortunately tells a lot more than it shows through characters' choices and actions. Andromeda also suffers greatly from lacks in sub-context, subtlety and nuance. You play as a good guy, and there are characters that will help you stop the bad guy. This is fine, if there are multiple layers around it. There aren't really with Andromeda.

Positives? Combat. Combat is genuinely fun and fluid, and the many customisable options mean that taking on hordes of enemies never feels like a job. Andromeda has beautiful, vast environments that you can traverse on foot or the Nomad (Mass Effect's multi-terrain vehicle). Exploring these gorgeous worlds is fun, and hopping out of the Nomad to kick some baddies butts before getting back in and driving off to complete side quests is mostly satisfying. Andromeda just fails to connect this to anything particularly interesting.

Part of the original Mass Effect trilogy's strengths were in its wonderfully realised characters, and the loyalty missions which enabled you to build meaningful relationships with them. Fortunately, Andromeda's cast of characters is good, and getting to know your allies, as well as assisting them in their character driven missions is a real joy. You can form romantic partnerships with some of your crew, and there's some genuinely heartwarming moments if you invest yourself.

The main issue with Andromeda it never becomes better than "good". At its worst, it's average. At its best, it's fun. It's a game that will give you hours of entertainment, exploring beautiful & dangerous alien worlds, and killing its inhabitants. Andromeda is just far too static and slow the rest of the time. RPGs have evolved, and side quests are no longer acceptable if they all involve travelling from point A to point B, killing or finding something then returning. Conversations should not feel skippable, and villains must have either some charisma, or a genuine reason for existing other than being another obstacle. There has to be tension; threat. Unfortunately Andromeda does nothing to really elevate itself above being an enjoyable space opera.

Mass Effect: Andromeda is one of the most disappointing games I have ever played. This was the last thing Bioware needed after the divisive reception of Mass Effect 3. This was the last thing Bioware needed after the divisive reception of Mass Effect 3. It was a game that was looking to make good on the original vision of the first Mass Effect game, running on cutting-edge new technology, and featuring a whole new cast of characters for players to potentially fall in love with. Despite having some genuinely good ideas and moments, it does not live up to the standards set by the original trilogy. A lot of this game's issues can be explained by its hellish development cycle, but it doesn't help make the game rise any further than average.

ME: A's biggest problem lies within its story and characters. A large scale number of humans travel all the way to the Andromeda galaxy, only to discover that their potential new homes are under the threat of a race of beings called the Kett. As Ryder, you set out to explore the galaxy with a rag-tag group of misfits to create habitable new worlds for people to colonize while also dealing with this new threat. It's story overall feels like a retread of the original Mass Effect, complete with similar plot points, cast of characters and a heavily predictable twist ripped straight out of Mass Effect 2. It makes the game lack its own real identity and just feels like a far less interesting version of the first game. The cinematography takes a considerable nose dive as well, whether it be from the uninteresting way standard conversations are shot to the general technical issues. Of course, there were the infamous character animations which caused this game to get memed into oblivion, and while those moments were hilarious, once they were patched they didn't fix the issues with its overall presentation. The new characters you come across don't leave much of a lasting impression either, save for a select few. Add to that the fact that the game often forgets about technology and lore set in place by the previous games and that your overall choices do not have any greater effect on the narrative (there sure as hell will never be a sequel to this). Even Mass Effect 3 was more impacted by your choices than this. To be completely fair, though, There are a few genuinely fun moments sprinkled throughout the game and a few of the characters like Drack, Jaal and Liam did win me over. The environments in this game can also look downright beautiful. Sadly, they don't make up for an underwhelming narrative.

How about the gameplay itself? Well, I can certainly say that it is the best part of the game, but not without its own issues. The core shooting mechanics are, quite honestly, the best feeling in the franchise. Clearly the most amount of attention went into the movement and gunplay. It feels and sounds great, and there's a solid selection of weapons to be had. You also have access to every character class and their special abilities right from the get-go, and you can also save these classes and abilities as shortcuts. However, I personally never utilized these shortcuts since I tended to stick with a winning combination that can absolutely decimate everything in my path. It's like getting the Crissaegrim in Symphony of the Night. As soon as you are given the best possible means of winning, there is absolutely no more reason to experiment. Unfortunately, the side missions found on each of the planets are not nearly as interesting, and many of them suffer from the same problem as most Ubisoft titles: a bunch of the same busy work scattered about to fill out the map make it seem like there is a substantial amount of content. This game also sees the return of vehicle exploration since ME1 (Hammerhead from ME2 doesn't count). Thankfully, unlike the Mako from ME1, the Nomad here is very fun to maneuver around in. You can also mine for resources on the ground like in ME2 and 3, but its far less important this time around.

As a Mass Effect game, it is by far the weakest of the series. On its own merits, its decent open world game with some solid shooting and a mediocre story. It's a massive disappointment to many long time fans such as myself, and it doesn't leave me with much hope for a future game (should there ever be one). I only have this game for the sake of owning it as a Mass Effect fan. Everyone else would do best to ignore it and just play the original trilogy instead.

This game is the biggest miss of this generation. I am a huge fan of the Mass Effect Trilogy (I even love ME3 without restrictions). This game pales in comparison. It is competent enough, and probably doesn't deserve all the hate it got, but the story is so forgetful (I barely remember any story beat one year after playing it, while I still remember all major beats from the trilogy). This game is the biggest miss of this generation. Apart from the story, the combat, side missions, and visuals are so generic. The soundtrack is forgettable.
It is not the WORST GAME EVER by any means, and I recommend people check it out.

Esse jogo tinha um potencial para ser fantástico, mas ficou no mais ou menos... Enquanto a trilogia original é inesquecível, esse é só pra passar o tempo e olhe lá...

The game can be fun at times. It seems as if the game was written by middle schoolers. laughable and corny characters. The open world is not too bad. The action, upgrades and experimenting with builds is definitely where this game shines. The romances are piss poor hands down worst part of the game and absolutely unnecessary .

Combat and world building is excellent, facial animations and storytelling not so much.

I played this on the PS5 and the input lag makes the game borderline unplayable unfortunately (unlike the Legendary Edition which is smooth). It’s a shame because the game looks great and the combat should be brilliant (massive upgrade from ME1/2/3), but it’s input lag breaks the experience. We’re it

Overall I enjoyed the game. For me it shines the most with the fun gameplay mechanics, the vast open worlds to explore ,the soundtrack is really good and the graphics are beautiful. This game looks like a hot garbage. EA, please don’t force devs that you bought make games on Frostbite, they don’t know how this engine works! Dunno what’s my opinion about the plot and characters because I dropped this game after 20 mins cuz of the reason I wrote in my review!

One of the most overhated game I've ever played. I heard a lot about bugs and animations around the premiere, but in my opinion, that game is still very good. That game has a good story, characters, locations, side quests, and more. It's one of the few games I finished two times, and I had a lot of fun doing that.

Is it the weakest in the series? Yes. Is it a letdown after 5 years of waiting? Yea kinda. Is it still a good game though? Debatable but I think so. Graphics are still good, and BioWare fixed a lot of the bugs (and faces) that were plaguing this game at launch. Plus the combat is the best in the series HANDS DOWN. I think it’s worth a playthrough.

I've played this game several years after the premiere and unfortunately this is not the mass effect I remembered. The maps are vast with many points you just want to explore, but usually there is nothing interesting. The story is not that epic that made me leave this game after ~10 hours of playing, while other games from the series I finished several times.

When I played the game, the glitches were gone, so I will disregard them. The story is mediocre, and the characters are not as likeable as the characters from the trilogy. The gameplay was enjoyable. I liked the return of the multiplayer. Overall a good game that doesn’t live up to its predecessors.

“I just think [it’s] neat.” -Marge Simpson

This game is not a masterpiece (or even close) but I enjoyed playing it. I played a bit of it on PC and it was a miserable experience, but playing it on PS4 a few years ago was fun. I didn’t experience any technical issues on PS4, but PC was an entirely different story. The frostbite engine kinda sucks (brave statements only on this

The game is not bad. It has fun gameplay, different builds and approaches, the characters are fine and it does have bugs, but now its not even noticeable. Its not the friend simulator that the first 3 were, but the gunplay is way more fun.

Definitely not as good as the Mass Effect Trilogy in terms of story and characters, some of them I really didnt care about. The dialogue is somewhat very poor and pale in comparison to everything we are used to watch with Commander Shepard badass attitude and his interactions with others. The level of threat represented by the antagonist is not really compelling. It might be the biggest, most complex and action packed game in the franchise, but Mass Effect: Andromeda is also the least convincing one. The dated facial animations, the inconsistent writing quality and the regularly occurring bugs take you out of the experience too often. On top of that, BioWare has not used the concept of a whole new universe to its full potential, which often makes it feel like Mass Effect: Andromeda has not left our Milky Way at all.

While it’s underwhelming in places, there’s a lot to like as you venture into the weirder parts of Andromeda. Frequent technical issues hamper the experience a bit, as does an uninspiring main story. [June 2017, p66]

A welcome, if slightly patch return for Mass Effect. The script has problems, but combat is bloody brilliant. [May 2017, p.62]
