    One of the worst games ever made, EVERYTHING about it is bad. Broken, buggy, nightmarish looking faces and animations, awful voice acting and wokeness, bad dialog. Belongs on a trash heap.

    To start, the game is incredibly ugly. I mean PS3 ugly. Flat, muddy textures make the "hdr" options a mockery. Add that to emotionless mannequin like faces and it's really hard to get invested in anything going on in the opening of the game. The plot is as generic as any other. Humanity's in jeopardy, need a new planet to live on yada yada. The irony is, because the plot is so rote, thereTo start, the game is incredibly ugly. I mean PS3 ugly.     Honestly can't recommend spending any time with this game from what I've played so far. Although it may be worth experiencing for under $10. I guess it just follows that trend of once great licenses dropping the ball this decade.    … Expand

    An end of a legendary game series for me. I have spent hundreds of hours of previous mass effects but this is just unplayable. The shallow writing is just too much. Storytelling was the foundation of Bioware, but it has since morphed into this horror.

    Unfortunately, the storyline is a bit childish, predictable, and - in some places - incosistent. The idea of exploring a dangerous, new galaxy and meeting an unknown race that you can't communicate with was exciting, but ended up with your AI being able to quickly translate languages so there's no more mystery or "first contact" issues. Exploration is also flattened to a level of "Cold Planet, Warm Yourself". It could have been so much more than this.
    What is more, BioWare quickly abandoned this game due to backlash and caused more backlash among those who actually enjoyed the experience. It was especially painful for those who focused on multiplayer, invested their time and money, and got a product that was worse than what the previous game (ME3) offered.

    As a fan of the Mass Effect trilogy, I was heavily disappointed with what Andromeda offered. It seemed as if they had a nice idea that they turned into a generic "good guys, bad guys" game and then threw it away.    … Expand

    Loved the Mass Effect trilogy (with the exception of the asinine "Citadel" dlc for ME3). "Andromeda", however, is an absolute steaming heap of tedium and unintuitive controls. A more appropriate title would have been "Lost in Space".

    An explanation of each character difference, backed up by history, is required. I don't want to communicate with a gay man, but with a thoughtful character who can be anyone. The story brings a fictional character to life, makes us adore or hate him. But not when they shout from the screen that it is absolutely normal to be like that. No, this is unnatural. Don't force it on us.
    This is not how to show that minorities are strong and have equal rights. Horizon just came out and shows you how to create a strong female hero.
    The main thing here is not a lackluster plot and bad graphics.
    This is just a very bad representation. An agenda that not everyone agrees on yet. An agenda that not everyone will accept.
    I'm very sad now. Because of this game, I lost a piece of my heart. Mass Effect is no longer for me.
    Please, if you don't want a bad script to come naturally, don't buy this game. Don't sponsor the death of the video game industry.    … Expand

    Darn, what a bummer. The Mass Effect Trilogy will forever be my favorite series, but Andromeda was an oops. I will say, the updates have definitely made it more bearable but as a whole this is just sloppy.

    The player animations are from previous gens, the menus are a headache, and the AI is just uninspiring. Enemies are just boring, don't even care about killing them half the time.     It is certainly not the worst RPG in the world, but as far as Mass Effect goes this is just not it. The first 3 left big shoes to fill, with ME2 being an absolute gem of a game; but this felt rushed and uninspired completely. If you have played the first 3 games, definitely still give Andromeda a play through. If for nothing else, you can get the achievements and say that you have played every Mass Effect game.

    I brought this game when it released played though it and went it was alright but not as good as the trilogy that came before it put on my shelf and never gave it a second thought. Even years later there are glitches. I've had areas of a map not load. The game game freeze while loading. NPC's just look unfinished. I've had to quit and restart to get a quest to load or finish. The story feels weaker and feels like a poor copy of the trilogy. I didn't feel as invested with the crew our given. The new galaxy feels lifeless 2 new races and one of them is the enermy. I remember hearing that after this game came out there were so many problems with it that Bioware went f**k it and abandoned it but it.
    Again I know this review is years late but with the remaster out I want any new players to have a chance to read post from someone who tried to come back to it years later.    … Expand

    This game destroyed the mass effect franchise and I hate it for that. It was boring as hell and the complete opposite quality of the original trilogy.
    I didn't even make it past the half way point, I was done with how boring it was.
    This game was also far to buggy and the AI also sucked.
    And don't get me started on the facial expressions.

    Just finished it (without Liam loyalty mission because it hasn't triggered - bug). It is bad. Main problem for me is that it is game about loading. One of final missions of one planets (no spoilers) looks like this: you are on your ship - go to system -> LOAD -> go to planet -> LOAD -> land on the planet -> LOAD -> run few meters -> LOAD ENTERING DOOR (opening these doors take longer thanJust finished it (without Liam loyalty mission because it hasn't triggered - bug). It is bad. Main problem for me is that it is game about loading. One of final missions of one planets (no spoilers) looks like this: you are on your ship - go to system -> LOAD -> go to planet -> LOAD -> land on the planet -> LOAD -> run few meters -> LOAD ENTERING DOOR (opening these doors take longer than other to allow objects to load) -> run few meters -> LOAD ENTERING DOOR -> watch dialog (while choosing responses that are irrelevant to story and gameplay), run few meters -> LOAD ENTERING DOOR -> run few meters -> LOAD ENTERING DOOR -> run few meters to terminal -> LOAD -> run few meters -> you can ride for 2 minutes or fast travel so LOAD -> run and watch cutscene, make one decision (changing model appearing at the end of the game) -> go back to starting position so LOAD -> terminal transit -> LOAD -> first door -> LOAD -> second door -> LOAD -> watch dialog and it's end of the quest. Except main quest all quest are like that - lots of loading, a bit of running, some shooting/scanning, dialog and go to other planet, so again lots of loading. Gameplay is ok, but a massive amount of work were placed to create all dialogs and lore but most ware created just to fill blanks without any creativity. Cinematics are bad. Mechanics of dialogs are bad - it sound like a "FRIENDS" without lough track - speaking, pause, speaking and all lack any emotions, and if there are some emotions, bad animation makes it look bad. Same few animals across whole galaxy cluster. No music so gameplay is a bit flat (final mission has music and is way more entertaining). Whole game looks like some scrum or agile management where creatives ware used to fill gaps, not to shape whole experience.… Expand

    Now for the constructive part;
    the game play is smooth, the actions switch in a smooth manner and there are things added and improved (as expected). The worlds are beautifully rendered and in some case even magical.
    However, with worlds so beautiful you'd expect pleasant facial animation and better than 2012, but no, it looks like they just look so stiff and unexpressive. HELL the first mass effect looks way superior compared to this animation! (I do believe they have aged pretty nicely though). And the glitching, the glitching! As I said, I bought this game 1 YEAR after the release so patches had been created and still had characters disappear and never to be found during battle, people speaking to the wall and me replying to their backs, tired faces with the characters telling me how they felt cause I couldn't tell, got killed and the game kept om going without me while the game over was hovering over my character's body and wouldn't transition to the loading screen (kept it on to see if my squad mates killed the boss and I'd revive for kick but nothing), etc.
    The story is boring, I never feel the urgency of the story nor the investment in the characters, they could all be Kaiden or Ashley for what I care. The character conflict is always short lived or their relationship among each other (Ryder and father for example) are odd at best and very detached. I understand having a distant parent in the story, but there is a distant father or a apathetic character that has no feeling of any sort with no explanation with no sense of the characters being connected or somehow disconnected. Bioware used to be able to tell amazing stories in it's golden age, where did they go? This story line feels like a Buch of ideas glued together, which I understand its basically what happened behind the scenes and it shows.
    Combat and enemies are always the same (it's not 2007 anymore you have the tea now) and for how beautiful certain worlds are, they are just too big and there is way too much exploration which takes away from the story and it has you forget what you are doing and why you go in that position to start with. The colours are over saturated and it doesn't make it feel like it belongs in the ME universe. I personally prefer having certain abilities and classes from the start and get better at them, but here you can change your class and abilities whenever... not a fan; you are trying to grow with your character and focus on certain abilities and get better at them, but this system makes your character feel like a Jack of all trades, you know all but KNOW none.
    If it had been a game in and of itself and was mainly exploration based, sure, whatever, the beauty of the worlds and mystery of them could have saved it a little, but to be inserted in the mass effect universe and receive this it was basically DOA.
    However, because I hate the original Sarah Ryder, I created my own and, though there were few options, I created a cool and pretty character + brother and the autogenerated father was a silver fox that I would of personally romance if had the chance and understood why Cora was pissed he died (even if that was short lived).

    It's a lengthy review, but this game is so bad that just saying it's garbage is unfair to the team that I understand was pushed and shoved during development and had to release a game that was broken from pre production. I would have given it a 1, but because the devs were under pressure a pity point is earned.    … Expand

    Man...this is sad more than anything else. All 3 games of Mass Effect was so fu**ing good. Yes ending of Me 3 was small mess but anyway game was fun. But Andromeda is all the way is mess. Only thing is better is combat...thats it

    The game is quite good, at least now after all patches. The animation is not that good i agree, but overall game experience feels good as well. The plot isn't very complicated and it's not bad after either.

    Intensely bland, ham-dashed gameplay with poor balance, unreliable servers, and a janky campaign. Even three and a half years after release it's still a dumpster fire of glitches and instability. The ONLY redeeming factors are a few supporting characters. That's it.

    I love Mass Effect so that is why I so hate this game. It is doing everything wrong. Story is boring, characters are very deep. Please back to Original trilogy and do something there.

It is all tedious crap that you hae to go through in order to finish the uninspired story, in a generic sci-fi universe popolated by barely functional characters.This game doesn't do anything better than mediocra, and it isn't coming from n angry ME fan.

    Uninstalled it after 10h. The game looks like poorly stitched together micor missions and activities known from asian MMOs. The plot starts almost like the first part., but rewritten by teenagers, I did;t care. Characters? Mostly bland and dull. Tons of items, crafting, resource gathering. All the boring stuff, which the devs put instead of good plot and interesting world

    They really blew it with this. Mass effect held such a special place in my heart, then BioWare went full EA and released a clearly unfinished game with a sub-par team, hoping the previous 3 amazing games would carry this pile of crap. No. I was super let down by this.

ME Andromeda is so poorly written that even my dog can write better dialogue lines. The combat is just good because EA wanted MULTIPLAYER, that's why they put effort in combat mechanics in detriment of the plot and choices.     Un juego que aun a día de hoy con los parche instalados está lleno de errores por todo lados, una vergüenza y una falta de respeto absoluta hacia los compradores sacar un juego sin termina. Una pena podía haber sido un gran juego y esta saga ni los Fans se merecían esto.

    The game is fun but when in first 20% of it you have bugs where you cant finish quests, and also cant move back or forward as doors wont open at certain point then i would call it unplayable and a scam. None of it will be fixed as nobody is working on it. Enjoyed it but ultimately shame on you EA and Bioware.

First step, try and make a female Ryder that actually looked like her facial model instead of that horrifying thing they made as default. The character creation was a pile of poodoo to work with, cruddy sliders but finally managed to make her and her brother look good enough to look at for a gameplay.

    The scanner is one of the worst additions to the game ever, you literally have to use it in every area you walk through to find data pieces, codex and story mission info, you can't find it or access it without it. Jetpacks are stupid, it's only included because it's inevitable that you'll be stuck in different parts of the map and need it to get out.

    I read that the game was initially supposed to be Papa Ryder as the main character. At least that would have made sense as he was an N7 and had the proper training to lead this motley expedition as Pathfinder. When he dies, in no way should the Ryder kid be the next up to take over, you're literally just on this trip because you're traveling with your father as a family not because you've had special training to take over. He had a second in command, who had every right to be angry that kid Ryder took over as Pathfinder because you're completely incompetent in comparison!

    The people are still ugly to look at, actually found a hideous troll looking lady on the bridge of the ship and was ready to start making a scrapbook for the most horrifyingly looking people that I could find in the game. There is no background noises on the ship or on the planet or any ambient music, it's so eerie to wander in the utter silence and not even have your people talking. The worst part is that I'm pretty sure I could take any ugly looking animations if only there was a really good story to move me along but guess what? There's not even that. It's not even semi-decent where I could play through the end and be like well that was worth one playthrough. Nope, I kept falling asleep during this game and felt nothing pushing me to finish.

    It makes me angry that Bioware was destroyed in such a way. Anyone who thinks that Mass Effect isn't dead and there's still hope is kidding themselves. EA wouldn't even allow DLC to be released for this game and shut down the whole studio who was working on it. What does that tell you? Avoid this game if you value your time and energy.    … Expand

    I am a bioware fan, I almost always defend them. I can't do it this time. I don't care about the technical problems, or animations.     Broken game. Had some promise but it is so glitchy and the animations are terrible. I lost save states to glitches multiple times in the first few hours. Loved every other game in the series, but this was a huge letdown.

    In comparison to mass effect 2, this is boring and uninteresting. It was a struggle to get through and while the base mechanics work the writing and plot is meh...and the game was clearly rushed out the door when I had first bought it the animations and glitches were terrible. RIP Bioware..... EA strikes again.

Whoever was responsible for this monstrosity should be held to account, particularly for the damage it has single-handedly caused to the Mass Effect universe.

I played this for twenty-two hours before I encountered finicky save files. If I load from the menu, I get stuck at the loading menu perpetually. If I try to load from autosaves sometimes, none of them will load. Now, I've run into my latest manual save corrupting.

    Mass Effect 2 remains my favorite gaming experience. I replayed each of the original trilogy at least three times each. I love them so much. But I was turned away by this title's bad press for a whole year. Finally giving it a chance now, I am sorely disappointed. I keep having to convince myself to return to the last half hour or hour before the corrupted saves. I keep having to literally force myself awake during NPC dialogue and during the long drives in the Nomad between lame quest #1 and lame quest #2. I loved Dragon Age: Origins so much, but Inquisition was suuuuuch a drag with all of those soulless fetch quests and that's what we get here. Having to do the same ones again??

    I might have given this a higher rating if EA hadn't declared that they're done with the title. I expect no patch. And when [read: "if"] I get to the end and discover what all the fuss is about this missing Quarian Ark?? Why would I want to do this to myself? Please do not support this developer. Zeschuk and Muzyka are gone. The days of Jade Empire and KotOR and DA:O are sooo far behind us.    … Expand

    After a few hours of Andromeda, I couldn't even bring myself to care enough to keep going. I didn’t care for the main characters whether I play as female or male, crew is completely unlikable and lame, story is uninspiring, to put it in simple terms: Chemistry didn't happen. There is nothing Mass Effect about Andromeda except in name and the "sci-fi" theme.
    Big disappointment.

    Andromeda today in its current state is a fantastic game end of! Yes when it first released it was broken but today all patched it’s worthy alongside the previous trilogy.     This game is an absolute disgrace to the Mass Effect franchise. They basically managed to destroy what was one of the best game franchises.

    Way to go EA, always ruining all the good franchises that you touch. Just like you did with battlefront, red alert, generals and the list goes on and on.

    The game itself looks decent, it has good visual's design and the soundtrack is good, the best part of the game is the game-play without it doubt, but everything else is a mess.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. the game looks very good at first glance but it s story is very disappointing indeed. there is good thing about that actually and that is when you "beat" the game (or get beaten by it) it is not less fun as there is no "real" plot going on at any given moment in the game. aliens look absolutely ridiculous and i can not accept them like superior creatures even though it s just a game. planets do look rather nice so that s a plus and uncovering them is fun too . and that idiot Jaal when i played the game it went in direction that shouldnt have existed in first place where Ryder was hit by Jaals romantic nonsense and she ended up kissing him..OMG ..i skipped the rest of the cutscene ...maybe she jerked him off too AHAAHAAHAH ignorance is bliss sometimes but in my case i didnt last very long .in my further adventures in andromeda JAAL demands to have sex with Ryder ....awful ...just disgusting ....0… Expand

The game at launch was a complete mess and to this day facial animations are still awful and constant technical problems are still present.     I can accept an effort to make a fresh start and new game, not connected much with the old series. That's fine, do it. But this? Leaving all crucial principles of RPG and strongholds which made Bioware famous? Do it really takes only those people (behind original series) which left the company make a good game?

    This damage to the brand can be hardly restored and repaired. Only trough self reflection of the creators and management You can do something about it.

    For fan of ME its heartbreaking experience.

    Forget about the technical problems. The game is worse than average. Indie RPGS, action RPGS, Sci-fi _____ (insert whatever game) are better than this. Pointless dialogs, shoved in. Uninteresting characters, boring quests, boring crew, boring galaxy. The villain is a joke. Immersion: scraping paint from a rusty bucket is more immersive and fun.

    The tens and zeros are both jokes. It is IMPOSSIBLE this is a 10. It is buggy and poorly optimized, it has graphical glitches, and poor animations and textures. All facts. My opinion - its world is far inferior to Horizon Zero Dawn, Zelda Breath of the Wild, and The Witcher 3. Games need to bring a lot more now. This isn't 2006 anymore. It's clear this is not the original Bioware crew.

    Individually speaking, this was the biggest disappointment of ANY series. It's not even the horrible animations, poor dialogues, lack of any emotional connection to the characters; the main thing wrong with this Mass Effect is the fact the missions are boring, nothing really happens. It's a very cheap spin-off.

    I was skeptical about this game because the ending of ME3 ruined the entire trilogy. I was so disheartened that I never play ME since I finished ME3. However, Andromeda's story is even worse right in the very beginning. The game was rushed so I tempered my expectation. I actually don't mind the graphical glitches because these issues can be patched eventually. But the story is so bad that I feel torn apart, even in the first hour. I was just speechless, after the first hour of play through, after three years waiting. I don't think I will ever want to play a mass effect game again.

As for the game itself I felt like one massive troll. 99% of the missions just have you running around the galaxy solving everyone's minor issues as if you were space Jesus (like setting up antennas or finding new ingredients to make beer or hooking up a Krogan with an Agaran). Also, most of the missions have NOTHING to do with the plot and everything to do with lazy colonists not willing to take care of their own **** I could not get invested in the main story and I could really care less about my crew mates (I despised talking to most of them, like Liam, that guy is a waste of time, I actually missed the first three games where I loved the characters - except Ashley, who is probably a Trump supporter). Loyalty missions don't matter and it seems they took out all the things that made Mass Effect awesom (the power wheel, omnigel, characters you could get invested in, a plot that was worthwhile, great antagonists, creepy aliens, control over your crew mates in battle so you can get biotic and tech combos, even weapons on the Nomad). The main antagonists, the Kett, are just a bunch of faceless rubes that are easy to put down. And the Remnant are a poor replacement for the Geth. It is also very buggy and glitchy. I had so many game breaking glitches that corrupted saves that I lost count. And what is the deal with making your character? Somehow they managed to screw that up as well!!! The main mission is complete write off Mass Effect Andromeda is a massive waste of time that actually hurt the franchise. Why does EA need to destroy everything it touches? Mass Effect is poor man's Fallout 4, completely lacks any imagination. Honestly, I could care less if they released a second one in the series.… Expand

I finished my first playtrought in like 90 hours and in those 90 hours i might had like 20 hours i enjoyed. But still its not enough to carry the game by itself the voice actor are kinda bad the main character both gender has no charisma and the open world for me is the worst part its Extremely Empty and boring to explore i never saw such generic planets a Mars like planet, Asteroid,Desert,Ice planet, a mountain planet and finally a jungle that doesn't look half bad. I wished they would had more Story mission and Loyalty mission than empty planet i can explore. The soundtrack is forgettable the visual style on some part doesn't feel like mass effect especially the armors. The multiplayer while great is horde mode with loot-box kinda like Mass Effect 3 without any real upgrade. Also i almost forgot the game is optimized like ass and sometime i get 10 to 15 fps in the tempest a closed area with no fight and not a lot of characters and Facial animations were an abomination upon release the fixed a couple of them with patches but still. And finally most of the race from the original trilogy are absent Quarians batarian,Volus,Elcor,Hanar,Vorcha,yahg and Drells are completely absent of the entire game except a little mention at the end do you feel the DLC's or sequel bait i do.… Expand

    Bought ME:A on PS4. Don't know how it runs on PC but on the PS4 it's crap. As soon as combat starts it lags alot, the FPS seems to drop remarkably, this almost alone makes the game unplayable for me. It's now patch 1.06 and the animations are still terrible. Im no "gameexpert" and usually don't care so much for the graphics, but in this game it's so bad so even I notice. The lighting sucks, like one part of the characters face is bright as hell and the other is dark. I haven't finished the game but so far the story is really uninteresting and the dialogue seems to sometimes been written by a 12-year old. I don't even know if I'm able to finish this ****.

    They said they were inspired by Witcher 3, what a **** lie... Well, why do they still have quests like find beacon on 5 different locations and so on like an MMO? Why have this piece of **** quests in a SP game? Who wants to run around in a SP-world and do this? Farming minerals in absurdum.

    And the countless bugs! Characters that are invisible when you talk to them, you are in combat all the time on the map so you cant fast travel and talk to NPC:s.

    So to sum it up:
    the story and the sidequests almost all sucks, no where near the quality in W3 they aimed for.
    bad FPS (PS4) which destroys the only thing that have been improved in the game; the combat.
    graphics, like the lighting and the lack of details and love in the world.
    in an rpg like this you need to have good animations, as it is now it sucks so hard you get distracted.
    dialogue is sometimes so bad and childish it's like a comedy, cant laugh though because I've spent 70$.
    MMO-quests (as in WoW) like collect 4 spacecrapthings on a map and get some XP is totally unfun.

    Maybe the combat and the graphics runs better on PC but the core of the game is still bad. You can put makeup on a pig, but it's still a pig. Though, the game is not a 1/10, some parts of the story is fine, the combatsystem and effects are ok.

    was a fan of the first trilogy. Here we lost the grandiose of the previous game with weak characters, average writing, weak design and average visuals.
    it looks like this has been done by non-passionate people who just did not care. this is very disappointing game... If this game was not named Mass effect it would get an even lower rating

Playing through it once was more than enough to see how much it feels less deserving of the Mass Effect title. Shallow and forgettable characters, useless mechanics (i'm looking at the "profiles" thing that i've never used) and pitiful story.

    It might be the biggest, most complex and action packed game in the franchise, but Mass Effect: Andromeda is also the least convincing one. The dated facial animations, the inconsistent writing quality and the regularly occurring bugs take you out of the experience too often. On top of that, BioWare has not used the concept of a whole new universe to its full potential, which often makes it feel like Mass Effect: Andromeda has not left our Milky Way at all.
