There are some great moments with some of the other Avengers and their respective story lines, but the main story is mostly a snoozefest and doesn't really draw the player in, save for a few moments here and there. But Ms Marvel's narrative is clear it stays focused enough to earn a 5/10.

    Protagonist: 5/10
Ms Marvel just does not cut it. She's full of the cheesiest quips that add absolutely nothing to the experience and she has the most boring super powers where you're literally just spamming the same button over and over to attack. Out of all the characters, she was by far the least fun to play as.

    Characters/Interactions: 6/10
Aside from Ms Marvel (and maybe Hulk too), the rest of the Avengers were actually a blast to play as, Iron Man being my definite favorite. Flying around using Tony's blasters and lasers was the most fun I had playing this game. Black Widow was awesome too with her dual-pistols and impressive melee combat. Cap's shield was pretty fun to throw around for a bit. Thor was not bad, but no different than playing as Kratos in GoW. Almost every attack was the same, the only difference being that Thor can fly. And playing as Hulk was basically just jumping in and spamming the attack button over and over. zzzzzzzzzz

    Villain: 3/10
    BORRRRING

    Editing/Cutscenes: 8/10
There are actually some pretty cool action sequences throughout this game. The ones that stand out are the Golden Gate scene at the beginning and some of the final battles towards the end of the game.

    Gameplay: 5/10
Like I said above, playing as Iron Man was a lot of fun. The rest of the game? Ehhhhhhh not so much. The gameplay just mostly felt like a watered-down version of Marvel's Spider-Man. Where Spider-Man excelled in its gameplay (which was excellent all around), Avengers really fails. The combat feels clunky, the finishers are unimpressive, and it just doesn't flow as smoothly as you'd like it to. And don't even get me started on the looting. It might be the most pointless looting system I've seen in years.

Just make it an Iron Man game and lets call it good. ;)

Main story is enjoyable but very short. Well, that’s the best I can say about this game. It’s very buggy, runs poorly, has a generic grind for non-unique gear, and is very repetitive. On top of that the campaign is repetitive with such a basic story it’s just meh. The acting of the characters is the only thing to make the game bearable. Also the loot progression and unlocks is so bad. You can get a total of 64 credits a week. To unlock you’re hero card it requires 200 credits total. So you’d have to work for three weeks and a couple days just to fill up one hero card. The paywall is ridiculous they are super shady. On top of all that the cosmetics are trash buckets. I love marvel to death but they gave the keys to crystal dynamics and they dropped the ball so hard. Cosmetics you’re pretty much grinding for are reskins I mean for **** sake you have a rogue gallery of Avengers hero’s and instead of including iconic outfits they just decide let’s make the same outfit with just different colors and charge a **** ton of money to unlock them otherwise you gotta grind for a year to get everything. It’s a joke this game is trash and the only reason I’m giving it a 5 is because it has some fun gameplay elements. Graphics are no where near as good as say final fantasy 7 remake or last of us 2. Nobody wants a game as a service Marvel game. We just want fun single player experiences like Spider Man for PS4. I hope Marvel learns from this and they let a better developer make a GOOD game. Because this game is just sad. I’m a big Marvel fan and this is a let down and disappointment. It will be on my list of bad games of the year. Expand

Had the studios simply focused their efforts on making this a linear single player experience with a better fleshed out combat system, this game could've been on par with the likes of Insomniac's Spider-Man and Batman Arkham quadrilogy. But instead they decided to go for a half baked, unfinished cashgrab live service game that needed at least another year's worth of development.

But it still feels like there are levels and scenes missing. It was nice to frame the story around Ms. Marvel and introduce her to people who haven't read her comics, but even with her front and center, I feel like they didn't show enough of her life before her journey begins. You're also not given a lot of time to breathe between missions and a lot of them end very abruptly. It shocks me because Square Enix has been so good at this with their Tomb Raider games, but Avengers feels like a cheaper unfinished knockoff despite its massive IP.

I would say the singleplayer took a generous 8 hours to complete, but I wouldn't be surprised if someone else beats it in 6 hours or less. Only about half of those missions feel necessary and thoughtfully composed with cinematic moments, while the others feel like storyless missions you'd play in multiplayer. That honestly really disappoints me because I remember articles stating it would take 18-20 hours to complete.

I will continue and try the multiplayer because I did enjoy leveling up my favorite characters. The combat is definitely repetitive, but I do like the fight animations, learning new moves, and stringing everything together against multiple enemy-types at once. It's not particularly deep gameplay, but all I really expected was an Ultimate Alliance style game except with a Spider-Man/ Arkham series aesthetic. My only major disappointment with the gameplay is that playing Hulk is a completely miserable experience. I could feel a difference and even some advantages with each hero, while Hulk just feels like an unsatisfying and ineffective button-mash. Black Widow doesn't even have powers but I feel like I kill things twice as fast with her.

I do have fun playing it because I love the Marvel Universe so much. All the easter eggs were really cool and I always enjoy seeing new interpretations of the characters. But if I view this game objectively, it's definitely mediocre at best and downright bad in some places. I encountered a lot of framerate issues and glitches that made me restart the game several times. I get that this happens with a lot of triple-A games at release, but it feels more jarring in a game where the content is pretty barebones. I'll probably max out Black Widow, Cap, and Thor because they're my favorite to play as, but after that, I'll set the game down until more characters and stories are added.

I think that for anyone who is indifferent about the Marvel Universe or to the Super Hero genre as a whole, this game will be one of those that you will pick up, play for 5 to 10 hours and then you will forget about it.

Having said that, I do believe that despite it's many flaws, the people who consume this type of stuff on the regular (the Marvel fans who watched every movie, the people who collect tons of comics, the audience that follows Marvel the same way the Star Wars's audience follows that universe), those people will try their best to like this game and they will succeed in doing so.

If you are willing to give this game a chance, despite the occasional crash, the somewhat clanky gameplay, the not so great optimization or the destiny like grind, believe me that this game can be very fun!
If you are able to enjoy it with friends, than the experience becomes even better.

Despite it's lows, the character development in this game can really make you enjoy the characters a lot more... Together with the voice acting from some of the best in the business and a story telling that can really get you immersed, in conjunction with the despite clunky but still fun gameplay and the promise from the developers to bring even more, if you are willing to oversee it's flaws you can really have some good moments in this game.

The gameplay is not easy... It is not hardcore either, but the casual Joe will have some trouble grasping the fighting patterns. In a way, it feels kinda like a Batman game except you are not so safe whenever you are doing your moves. It can be simple to understand, but it will require some experience fighting with every different Avenger and against all the enemy types (especially when they all jump on you at the same time).

In the end of the day, I truly believe this is the best representation these characters have ever had in videogame form. Not only by the way they look, but also by they way they sound and by the way you control them. Each character truly feels unique and hopefully the characters to come will be as fun.

    [EDIT REVIEW]

The game's crashing bugs have been fixed and I give props to SQUARE ENIX for the fast act in patching this up. I have finished the campaign and it is amazing. Even though it is very short it is filled with amazing moments that looked and felt like I was in a movie. I enjoyed each of the voice actors even though some are better than others (for example: Bruce and Kamala) There are still tons of things the developers need to tackle in order to make this game more enjoyable. Once you get to the end game and you start doing repetitive missions for better gear and power everything starts to get boring very fast. The open world missions are a not enjoyable as you have to jump or fly your way to the objective. The surroundings feel dead unless a random group of enemies show up. The gear is by far my biggest let down in this game. In my opinion it is ANTHEM level bad. I still have not gotten the exotic gears but I have already gotten golden gear and I just do not feel any difference. I love the foundation of Marvel's Avengers but it needs a lot of work and fast response in order to stay alive and not die. PLEASE PLEASE ADD CROSS PLAY. If you are an Avengers fan I totally recommend this game if not I would wait for a sale. At this time Marvel's Avengers is a 7.5/10.

    [ORIGINAL REVIEW]

I am trying really hard to enjoy this game and it just keeps crashing on me. It has crashed already 3 times in the middle or at the end of a mission and it is really annoying. The campaign so far is very enjoyable. Hopefully they fix this bugs ASAP. Will edit this review once I progress more into the game.

I had quite high hopes as I loaded up Avengers for the first time, I had enjoyed the beta but hoped that there would be still a lot more to find out, and while there isn’t as much variety as I would like, the campaign is so much fun and definitely has replay-ability.

The game has one of the best beginnings of a game I’ve ever played. You are introduced to a young Kamala and have to find comics through out all the hustle and bustle of the A-day celebrations, now while I know this doesn’t sound to exciting, but what makes this such a good opening is Kamala, she is such a fangirl and personifies what everyone would act like in that situation. It makes the introduction to all the avengers so much cooler as Kamala loses her mind as they each talk to her. This is a thing that carries through the entire game and always makes you as a player think ‘Wow, I’m playing as the Avengers!’

Once this sequence has finished and you have played the A-Day mission from the Beta, is where I start to have issues with the first few hours of this game. The first hour of this game shows exactly how good this game can be with the quick transitions between characters and the awesome character relationship with the endless one liners and quips throughout the early missions. Then it strips it all away and gives you Kamala and Bruce, it’s disappointing that all of that potential is stripped away and you are given arguably the worst of the Avengers to spend the longest with.

This is the part where the game becomes a bit confusing because it’s clear that these style of missions, that are essentially capture the flags or destroy the objectives, it’s clear it is trying t gear you up for the multiplayer but you’re playing the campaign. It’s difficult because it’s clear they want to try and please as many people as possible but by doing so it never really commits to anything. The beginning of this game and the end of this campaign are as good as Marvel’s Spider-Man. It is story focused, great combat mind-blowing experience, but in the middle it tries to ween you into the multiplayer aspect which for me was rather annoying as I was trying to play the campaign not the multiplayer.

Besides the minor detour in the middle part of the campaign and the fairly frequent performance issues, which I wasn’t overly concerned by as most of this game is going to be on next gen consoles anyway, this is a really good game it’s going to take time to see how the game as a service part will perform but I will definitely play this campaign again on PS5.

I will do a separate review for the Avengers Initiative, the long term part of the game, a little further down the line as it’s difficult to see where it is going a week after launch,

Story and visuals are serviceable but the gameplay is very repetitive and boring. It doesn't matter how good everything else is if the gameplay sucks.

Oof. So close. Not even the fantastic voice acting, graphics, gameplay (which needs some tweaking in innovation/patching due to bugs/glitches) and story telling, can save this ONLINE only experience. I am so torn about this game because it could have been so great. Oh well. Everyone. Play it. Beat it. Move on. NEXT!

Sure missions can get repetitive and the game is, at this very moment filled with quite a lot of bugs, ranging from technical issues, audio bugs and also quite a few frustrating game breaking glitches. Nevertheless, this game features an interesting 10-12 hours long campaign with an entirely new villain. It also has over 50 missions that you can play with friends or solo and a great variety of heroes to choose. It surely can fall on the repetitive side of things with the basic mechanics, but the gameplay gets more and more Interesting with each character as you progress with them. The game also feature a descent amount of cosmetic items; including very amazing skins, nameplate and emotes. I would agree with the fact that it’s a shame the gear don’t affect your look, you mist instead farm units, gather blueprints or simply buy cosmetics through the in game micro transactions. Yet again, I found myself enjoying this game the most while playing with friends. My verdict? You should definitely get this game if you are a marvel fan and if you have a squad ready to hop in with you. Don’t be scare to come across bugs and glitches cause you will and let the narrative experience drive you forward as you develop and get attach to each character! It surely isn’t for everyone, but I think this game has a lot of future potential with Kate Bishop and hawkeye on the way and future dlcs being 100% free! Expand

And free characters and dlc coming soon like Kate bishop and Clint oh and of course Spiderman next year but something feels off about that last one oh wait he’s a PS4/PS5 exclusive i’ll talk more about this in the bad.

“The ok” The combat is good the first few times and even later on when you have a team of four A.I or online players but it gets stale after a while that’s for sure’ The game deafly does have its fair amount of bugs and glitches luckily you can just press pause and Reload checkpoint if it’s bad In my case I’ve only had to do it once other than that not too too bad and the game hasn’t crashed on me so that’s good at least’

“The bad” The micro transactions are very scummy feeling honestly it’s a $60’ all I’m saying is keep your eyes open for Loot boxes and battle passes there’s already free battle passes for all the characters it just feels a off Like they could at any moment paid battle passes in this game which is a horrible idea’ I play on PS4 and I hate the idea of adding in free content for one platform a.k.a. Spiderman I get it it’s a Sony thing it just feels wrong like that should just be content everyone gets to play and a game with a life service motto they shouldn’t be doing stuff like this’

“In summary” I honestly like this game and with updates I feel like it could be an eight Easily’ It’s a fun game with friends and it has a great single player Story and the voice acting is amazing’ i’d say if you’re a big marvel fan you should deathly pick this one up but if you’re not sure deafly pick it up on sale.

I dont consider finishing moves "cosmetics", but part of the gameplay and should be unlockable by challenges and not behind a paywall.

Story is good with plenty of cinematics. Post-Campaign activities is like doing strikes in Destiny. You'll unlock more activities once you've progressed through main post-campaign objective/quest (AFAIK, completing first step unlocked a new typ of activity)

You will get some premium currency (Credits) by completing Hero Challenge Card or HCC (Battle Pass) with each character. Launch characters has them unlocked for free. You'll earn points to lvl HCC by completing Daily and Weekly Challenges.

New upcoming characters will have HCC locked unless you buy it for 1000 credits.

Yeah you can do fancy combos and stuff but usually there’s so much happening onscreen that you’ll be interrupted and take damage before you can even get halfway through them. You’re better off just mashing the square button. It all just feels so generic and bland. You have the entire Marvel universe at your fingertips, with an endless roster of characters to choose from including the likes of Guardians of the Galaxy and villains like Loki, and you make a game in which all you ever do is go into AIM facilities on Earth that all look the same and you just spend all your time smashing some robots. The voice acting is good, but you’ve got the likes of Nolan North, Laura Bailey and Troy Baker in there so of course they know exactly what’s needed. Like I’ve said the story’s a bit dull and it doesn’t give them all that much to work with emotionally. Really feels like this is a missed opportunity that could have been utilised much better in the hands of a developer that didn’t just see this as an endless grinding cash cow for people with more money than sense to spend on skins, emotes and hero cards a la Fortnite. That’s without even mentioning the fact that each character has a battle pass that you have to pay for individually. Such a shame. Needless to say I’ll be trading it in and not giving them any more of my money on pointless cosmetics. Expand

But after you reach the Campaign there's nothing left. The multiplayer function simply serves no purpose as there are a limited amount of options left following the end of the campaign.

This game is still very buggy. Yes, it's mostly just funny visual glitches. But, sometimes, your allied AI will get stuck in the ground. Sometimes, your multiplayer partners will somehow launch themselves through an invisible wall.

This game should be global. It should feel global. This is the Avengers. Most of the maps are American focused with two outside. One being in Scandnavia, and the other being in Siberia. So, that's a bit disappointing.

No option to kick people out of your parties during multiplayer meetups. So, you always end up having to leave your strike team in order to get the party you want should you want to change things up.

It's by no means a bad game. But a $60 game? Not at this state. $30 sounds better with everything this game seemingly lacks.

This game has its moments, the beginning of the story is charming and stirs up hype on what being a super hero is all about and makes you want to jump in as one of the main avengers the game launches with, and then it falls flat. The Avengers Initiative is supposed to be your standard online looter shooter; run in, beat up the bad guys, do a tedious meaningless task or two, get your gear, leave, rinse and repeat. As someone who plays warframe and played it at launch I genuinely enjoy these types of games BUT! The types of missions available are repetitive and stale after a couple of hours of playing. Stages are reused and don't allow for some of the Avengers to shine with their specific abilities, the objective has been recycled from other types of games (use warframe as an example) When in playing as Thor or Iron Man you're able to do really cool abilities but you're objective is to heat up a reactor or server? No cool animations for heroes with actual powers just punching and kicking at a random object. The enemies range in types and can flood you at certain points making you feel smothered and not so super hero esque. Although there is a multitude of enemy types they are literally only robots. The only humans enemies you engage with are in the beginning of the game and a few other types that teleport or fly. Other than that you're fighting robots the entire game. This game needs a huge overhaul fast before they lose the hype. Matchmaking is abysmal and you end up playing with AI because you're tired of waiting for the Avengers to assemble. The gear you collect doesn't have any physical appearance and really doesn't give you an incentive to keep replaying missions which is the entire point of a looter shooter games as a service game. Each hero has its own season pass type set up that you can either grind for by daily and weekly missions or just pay for (surprise) right now after playing since the day after it's launch I haven't unlocked one item for a hero in the free season pass. Grinding different hero's seems like a chore at this point and doing so will make the game feel more stale. Others have said it best, if you want to be an Avenger with friends buy it. If you want to feel like your doing meaningless tasks as a super hero in an unfinished game for mediocre rewards at a premium price this is for you. If the developers were holding out for next gen they should've done just that. I want to like this game and hopefully with the poor reviews and the fan feedback they'll update the game to play and feel like I am actually a super hero until then it's just not that enjoyable for long periods of time. The end game content is next to none and the cosmetics were significantly overpriced recolors after the latest price drop they're slight more feasible. It hits in a lot of areas though like for example the combat feels great playoffs as Thor feels like a god playing as Capture America or Black window feels gritty and spy like. All the characters have unique fun movesets and if you like superheroes you'll have atleast a little bit of fun with this game. It just seems a little rushed and honestly another year could've done wonders. It seems the developers plans were to get it out even if it's not ready and fix everyone post launch. Problem is players leave and with an online game like this that's a big problem. I'll be honest I still boot it up once a day or so just to play as Thor because it looks and feels pretty awesome. This video game market is lacking very good superhero games so this is really the best multiplayer hero game right now. I have faith post launch DLC will revitalize this game but as it stands it's a decent fun experience I think everything should try the campaign atleast. 6/10 now. 4/10 at launch and at it's absolute best 8.5/10 Expand

I really love marvel and video games, but there are just so many bugs, quality of life improvements, and balancing. What I mean by this is heros like hulk and black widow get staggered and make enemies staggered at the same rate. Smaller enemies should not be able to continue throw an attack animation when getting punched in the face by hulk, and smaller enemies should not be able to interrupt his attacks. He also doesn't seem to have a crazy more amount of health or jump height compared to black widow. Expand

Скукота сильная. Было весьма интересное начало, поэтому и дальше стало интересно, что будет. Но дальше было настолько однообразно, настолько персонажи минимально различались, что доигрывалась игра через силу.

I think the low scores are a bit exaggerated, but I can definitely understand where they come from.

I got myself pretty invested, especially with the character of Kamala, someone I ignored since her debut in the comics. Unfortunately it feels like they got the license for ONLY the avengers, as throughout the story you barely meet any big comic villain apart from two or three,

Butthe single player alone was enough for me to see the gameplay loop doesn’t hold up for a game as service product. When you’re invested in the story you can manage to overlook a lot of the gameplay flaws, but when you begin to think the game was design to actually repeat that gameplay loop throughout multiple missions in a “games as service” mode, you realize it doesn’t work. If you’re just gonna be tasked with fighting hordes of generic enemies, only so you can fight a bigger generic enemy, for “no reason”, there really is no desire to continue playing.

So basically, TLDR, game has a very enjoyable campaign, but don’t really go for it looking for a great online mode. You can probably get a few kicks out of playing with some friends, but it will get stale pretty fast.

Overall enjoyed the game tho i wish the game would let you pick character outfits anytime no matter if you're playing them or not,set them to outfits based on what type of mission there on if one at all and also stopped forceing them into new outfits that you can't change right away they also don't always stay in the outfit you picked in cut scenes also Ms marvel's Mystic Marvel outfitOverall enjoyed the game tho i wish the game would let you pick character outfits anytime no matter if you're playing them or not,set them to outfits based on what type of mission there on if one at all and also stopped forceing them into new outfits that you can't change right away they also don't always stay in the outfit you picked in cut scenes also Ms marvel's Mystic Marvel outfit bugs out in the final boss fight. Also why does Nick Furry start telling you how to play the game as if you just started playing after you already beat the game?

Costumes and mud: First off i love how your charcter gets covered in mud, not every game does this and even the ones that do rarely look as good as this, as for the outfits tho most of Ms marvels are pretty good i either don't like the way thay look or they don't fit the vibe i'm going for there's really only two i'll end up using Mystic Marvel for a homemade look tho her hair does clip threw her hood, over all i really like this one a lot , and Event Horizon for a "real superhero" look also shoud be noted that her bag clips threw her chest for most of her outfits i'm really not a fa of clipping in games and these would have been easy to fix if they second checked to make sure the outfits didn't clip but not a big deal it just pisses me off a bit seeing clipping like that.
I'm not really feeling any of the Hulk's outfits none of them really vibe with me or are just bad.
The only Iron man suit i really like is jet stream the rest are either meh or bad.
Black widow has two that i really like black and white and super spy.
Most of cap's outfits are pretty good shockingly, he does have a few bad ones but out of all the characters cap has the most good outfits and tho i should hate avenging archer for looking dumb i low key love it it's like he's making a statement now that hes back or something.
Thor's are kinda meh no real feelings for any of them.

Story: Fine there's some dumb stuff that happens and some cringe moments but over all it's fine, there's one pretty cool moment early in the game were you're being chased by the Hulk that was fun.

Gameplay: Tho i'm not a fan of button mashers as there all pretty easy no matter what difficulty you're on, but this one is actually fun with the right character and way more fun then the arkham batman games, marvel's Spider-man and the god of war games, yeah i just pissed off a whole lot people with that but it's true this game is way more fun even tho it's just a button masher.

Combat: Ms.Marvel good,Thor pretty good but pretty awkward in his part of the final boss fight,Iron man okay but awkward ,Hulk pretty good,Black window not grate but not too bad ,Cap pretty good, Hawkeye haven't played yet, Kate haven't played yet, Black panther haven't played yet,Mighty Thor haven't played yet,Spider-man haven't played yet,Winter Soldier haven't played yet. (Will update as i play them)

Platforming: The platforming in this game **** sucks and the floaty jumps don't help. Also why is Cap the only one who can wall run the fact that characters like hulk can't wall run and just stick to walls is really dumb.

Puzzles: All puzzles are easy in a good way but some aren't always clear and doing them solo is a bit of a pain since the ai don't help nor can you tell them to stay put.

Bugs: Enemies like spawning in walls/getting stuck in them sometimes even just falling out of the map not off of out of also Ms marvel's Mystic Marvel outfit bugs out in the final boss fight if you're wearing it.

Sem dúvidas é um game que deve ser jogado, especialmente por aqueles que são fãs e querem ver seus heróis em ação, principalmente se gostarem de ação frenética, mas infelizmente não dá para esperar nada além do que já mencionei.

The game has an interesting gameplay, but it becomes repetitive over time, the missions end up becoming more of the same and you lose interest as you progress through the game.

for what i remember its not really a complete disaster, but its so forgettable that i can't bear to go back and play again to se if its as uninteresting it looked back then, pure waste.

It could’ve been a great single player title. The publisher chose to go down the game as a service path though, and those who prefer to play solo need to tackle run-of-the-mill co-op missions. The multiplayer on the other hand is messy, chaotic and in the long run boring. When the developers manage to fix the most pressing bugs and find a way to bring more variety to co-op, this might become a solid game. Right now, I can only recommend it to the biggest fans of the Avengers. [11/2020, p.26]

This is the perfect example of "Games as a Service" done right. Marvel's Avengers offers up a superb campaign story to play through that is promised to be expanded on in the future. The gameplay may be repetitive, but it includes just enough to keep players interested and invested in the endgame content that is available now to keep this game going until the next step in its roadmap. The possibilities and potential in the future here are hugely exciting.

There have been plenty of moments during my time with Marvel's Avengers where I’ve genuinely had a great time. But this game keeps finding ways to drag itself down- at times it almost feels like it goes out of its way to do so. There’s just so much here that I can’t overlook, no matter how hard I may try. An unnecessary and broken loot system, a litany of horrible technical issues, uninspired and one-note mission design, and a story that fails just as much as it succeeds- it doesn’t matter how mindlessly fun the combat is, it isn't enough to overcome such a heavy list of problems.
