It's an ok outing featuring some of Marvel's most beloved characters. Enjoyed what was there, but throughout my time with the game, it felt like it could have been so much more at launch. I will say, however, that the characters are unique enough to differentiate from one another but despite this, combat and missions eventually feel repetitive.

Entertaining story-driven game that reimagines the Marvel universe in interesting ways. Gameplay can be repetitive but it is beautiful and I really enjoy playing as the different heroes. I bought it on deep discount during the holidays and it has been worth every bit of the money and time I have invested.

While I enjoyed playing it, the game has it flaws. The performance in huge battles can dip a lot, the camera is not the best and there are some bugs. But I enjoyed the combat and some of the big battles (sometimes it can be too chaotic)
And I like the main character but what I really dislike is Tony Starks character, normally I like Nolan North but I found him way too annoying as Tony

Having played through all the beta phases, finishing the campaign and starting up some multiplayer with friends in the Avengers Initiative post-game, the improvement this game has seen from its early stages can't be overstated. Although the game is an Avengers game at heart, the focal point of the story is centered around Kamala Khan and focuses on introducing this semi-new character (created in the early 2010s when Carol got her Captain Marvel revamp). To its credit, the story - while being your standard Marvel comics fare - has got some heart to it, and manages to do the unthinkable: it makes MODOK into something more than a hammy supervillain whose pinnacle of achievement was an appearance on the Marvel vs. Capcom 3 roster. However, the enemy designs run on the derivative side, and by the end of the game, you might be noticing if you played Ultimate Alliance 3 that the AIM trooper designs don't actually vary too immensely from those in MUA3, and the mechanical enemies such as Adaptoids feel very familiar to those who are used to seeing the designs of Marvel robots. Indeed, the artistic design never strays too far from familiar territory (with the excepion of each character's endgame Stark Suits, which are excellently-designed), and vibrant and memorable character, enemy and NPC designs are more the exception than the norm.

With that out of the way, the gameplay loop runs the gamut from predictable to amazing depending on situational context. In my experience, the open air 'Warzones' are where the game's best qualities lie, especially in multiplayer, and outside of some overzealous enemy respawning, represent the game's most enjoyable, stress-free experience. Side note: enemy scaling can be a bit strict, and there's obviously an aspect of power fantasy to playing a superhero, so if you ever feel like letting loose and enjoying yourself, absolutely don't be afraid of dropping the difficulty to Challenge I (although I recommend not changing the Campaign Difficulty to Easy unless you're truly struggling, as Easy difficulty goes all the way to making every attack blockable, which while a true boon for struggling players, can come back to punish players who will eventually want to jump up in difficulty and may end up being unfamiliar with which enemy moves to block/parry and which to dodge). There will be people who will want to play 'for the challenge', but the actual mechanical playstyle is in no way altered between difficulties; namely, the changes are in damage and power level. Higher difficulties do net better gear, but not so much that lower difficulties are punishing. So I would recommend playing around with all mission difficulties until you figure out which suits you best.

Now, the gear system: here's where one fault lies, but none so damnable that it can't be understood, as it's generally the same fault with every looter shooter and Diablo-like, even Diablo II itself. In general, your best bet is to auto-optimize your gear for the highest stats and scrap or bank the rest in storage. It can be a bit tedious in that way if you aren't used to looter shooters, but the smaller loot drop rate and inventory carry rate helps with that: generally speaking, gear is always scaling upward, and you can go quite a few missions without filling up a section of your inventory unless you're specifically hunting for gear. That said, the game *really* needs an auto-dismantle shortcut.

There is some weakness in the HARM Rooms and especially in the smaller Threat Zones, but the weakness is less low-quality gameplay, and more repetitive gameplay. And there is at least one main story mission with a boss that utilizes that infamous bad design choice of dropping waves of enemies to inflate difficulty, but the game does that far, FAR less than Ultimate Alliance 3 did, and I can actually only think of that one boss fight when it comes to it being done to the point of tediousness.

Best of all, while the prologue portions of the campaign are required, everything else is totally optional: if you only want to play for the campaign, you can. If you want to skip ahead to the postgame multiplayer-focused content, you can (but will admittedly start at a disadvantage). So, is it worth it? While I don't feel 100% confident in saying so, I at least feel more confident in saying than the gamut of reviews that claim 'worst game ever' or spend their time finding fault in the Metacritic aggregate system that many of us have already acknowledged. And I can say that if you're even a casual Marvel fan with a dedicated group of friends for multiplayer, 100% yes. As for everyone else, the game could at least warrant a rental to play through the campaign or a view through the campaign on a Twitch stream, but this isn't a knock on the game's quality. It utilizes some Uncharted-style scripted action segments, but the perjorative 'walking sim' does not apply here.

The first 10 minutes of the game is already blocked by a sign up wall where you are bombarded with advertisements and links leading to their shops, from then on I knew that the game was going to lack heart and style. After finishing the beta it was obvious to me that this is just a money grab game and a horrible adaptation to the comic books. The gameplay feels very generic, and I'm a huge fan of button smash games in which you can see where I've put around a thousand hours into Diablo 3; but this game just felt so bland. In the end I never felt like I could create my own unique play style. There is nothing unique about the control scheme in this game. Maybe the final released version will have some things to uncover gameplay style .

This was my after thought after the beta...

I say wait for the actual reviews from critics, and see if this is worth it.

I feel like it shows a lot of potential, but would've wished the story-story to be another 10 hours. Obviously their main focus is on its endgame and loot, but it feels like a missed opportunity. I'm also worried of the longevity of its endgame is asides from levelling up your characters and managing to get the cosmetics you're after. I'm already at lvl 50 for Black Widow and she's feeling pretty stacked as is, so once I level up the others then what? Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal have A LOT of work ahead of them to keep its endgame fresh, let alone running properly on current console. There's certainly a lack in environments, enemy variety, and level verticality. Sometimes there's the odd change, but then you realize oh I'm entering a re-used asset moments later. The game overall is fine, but because it's The Avengers who are beloved by Marvel fans, I hope its post-game support exceeds expectations and its post-launch state is a distant memory for how far it's come since. But it still feels like there are levels and scenes missing. It was nice to frame the story around Ms. Marvel and introduce her to people who haven't read her comics, but even with her front and center, I feel like they didn't show enough of her life before her journey begins. You're also not given a lot of time to breathe between missions and a lot of them end very abruptly. It shocks me because Square Enix has been so good at this with their Tomb Raider games, but Avengers feels like a cheaper unfinished knockoff despite its massive IP.

I would say the singleplayer took a generous 8 hours to complete, but I wouldn't be surprised if someone else beats it in 6 hours or less. Only about half of those missions feel necessary and thoughtfully composed with cinematic moments, while the others feel like storyless missions you'd play in multiplayer. That honestly really disappoints me because I remember articles stating it would take 18-20 hours to complete.

I will continue and try the multiplayer because I did enjoy leveling up my favorite characters. The combat is definitely repetitive, but I do like the fight animations, learning new moves, and stringing everything together against multiple enemy-types at once. It's not particularly deep gameplay, but all I really expected was an Ultimate Alliance style game except with a Spider-Man/ Arkham series aesthetic. My only major disappointment with the gameplay is that playing Hulk is a completely miserable experience. I could feel a difference and even some advantages with each hero, while Hulk just feels like an unsatisfying and ineffective button-mash. Black Widow doesn't even have powers but I feel like I kill things twice as fast with her.

I do have fun playing it because I love the Marvel Universe so much. All the easter eggs were really cool and I always enjoy seeing new interpretations of the characters. But if I view this game objectively, it's definitely mediocre at best and downright bad in some places. I encountered a lot of framerate issues and glitches that made me restart the game several times. I get that this happens with a lot of triple-A games at release, but it feels more jarring in a game where the content is pretty barebones. I'll probably max out Black Widow, Cap, and Thor because they're my favorite to play as, but after that, I'll set the game down until more characters and stories are added.

I think that for anyone who is indifferent about the Marvel Universe or to the Super Hero genre as a whole, this game will be one of those that you will pick up, play for 5 to 10 hours and then you will forget about it.

Having said that, I do believe that despite it's many flaws, the people who consume this type of stuff on the regular (the Marvel fans who watched every movie, the people who collect tons of comics, the audience that follows Marvel the same way the Star Wars's audience follows that universe), those people will try their best to like this game and they will succeed in doing so.

If you are willing to give this game a chance, despite the occasional crash, the somewhat clanky gameplay, the not so great optimization or the destiny like grind, believe me that this game can be very fun!
If you are able to enjoy it with friends, than the experience becomes even better.

Despite it's lows, the character development in this game can really make you enjoy the characters a lot more... Together with the voice acting from some of the best in the business and a story telling that can really get you immersed, in conjunction with the despite clunky but still fun gameplay and the promise from the developers to bring even more, if you are willing to oversee it's flaws you can really have some good moments in this game.

The gameplay is not easy... It is not hardcore either, but the casual Joe will have some trouble grasping the fighting patterns. In a way, it feels kinda like a Batman game except you are not so safe whenever you are doing your moves. It can be simple to understand, but it will require some experience fighting with every different Avenger and against all the enemy types (especially when they all jump on you at the same time).

In the end of the day, I truly believe this is the best representation these characters have ever had in videogame form. Not only by the way they look, but also by they way they sound and by the way you control them. Each character truly feels unique and hopefully the characters to come will be as fun.

    [EDIT REVIEW]

The game's crashing bugs have been fixed and I give props to SQUARE ENIX for the fast act in patching this up. I have finished the campaign and it is amazing. Even though it is very short it is filled with amazing moments that looked and felt like I was in a movie. I enjoyed each of the voice actors even though some are better than others (for example: Bruce and Kamala) There are still tons of things the developers need to tackle in order to make this game more enjoyable. Once you get to the end game and you start doing repetitive missions for better gear and power everything starts to get boring very fast. The open world missions are a not enjoyable as you have to jump or fly your way to the objective. The surroundings feel dead unless a random group of enemies show up. The gear is by far my biggest let down in this game. In my opinion it is ANTHEM level bad. I still have not gotten the exotic gears but I have already gotten golden gear and I just do not feel any difference. I love the foundation of Marvel's Avengers but it needs a lot of work and fast response in order to stay alive and not die. PLEASE PLEASE ADD CROSS PLAY. If you are an Avengers fan I totally recommend this game if not I would wait for a sale. At this time Marvel's Avengers is a 7.5/10.

    [ORIGINAL REVIEW]

I am trying really hard to enjoy this game and it just keeps crashing on me. It has crashed already 3 times in the middle or at the end of a mission and it is really annoying. The campaign so far is very enjoyable. Hopefully they fix this bugs ASAP. Will edit this review once I progress more into the game.

Kate Bishop: now Kate is the daughter of hawkeye if you see in the endgame in the movie now Kate is already trained by his Dad so he can shoot a bow in the enemies and can shoot rope of his bow and can go up from there and do combat moves like Hawkeye.
War Machine: Now War machine is the friend of Iron man and Is like him. now War Machine can use his armor of Iron man but Unlike iron man, War machine can use more weapons including shooting rockets, use a sniper, and a minigun.
She-Hulk: Now She-Hulk is a cousin of the hulk that use his gamma radiation on her, Unlike The Hulk, She-Hulk can be stronger, more powerful, more medium-size compared with the size of The Hulk.
That's all the characters for the Avengers game I know it's sad to play Avengers without spiderman but it will be cool with 3 new superheroes than spiderman for Xbox and PC Players maybe one day we can have spiderman as the new playable Character For Xbox and PC

It could’ve been a great single player title. The publisher chose to go down the game as a service path though, and those who prefer to play solo need to tackle run-of-the-mill co-op missions. The multiplayer on the other hand is messy, chaotic and in the long run boring. When the developers manage to fix the most pressing bugs and find a way to bring more variety to co-op, this might become a solid game. Right now, I can only recommend it to the biggest fans of the Avengers. [11/2020, p.26]

This is the perfect example of "Games as a Service" done right. Marvel's Avengers offers up a superb campaign story to play through that is promised to be expanded on in the future. The gameplay may be repetitive, but it includes just enough to keep players interested and invested in the endgame content that is available now to keep this game going until the next step in its roadmap. The possibilities and potential in the future here are hugely exciting.

There have been plenty of moments during my time with Marvel's Avengers where I’ve genuinely had a great time. But this game keeps finding ways to drag itself down- at times it almost feels like it goes out of its way to do so. There’s just so much here that I can’t overlook, no matter how hard I may try. An unnecessary and broken loot system, a litany of horrible technical issues, uninspired and one-note mission design, and a story that fails just as much as it succeeds- it doesn’t matter how mindlessly fun the combat is, it isn't enough to overcome such a heavy list of problems.
