    10 years ago I was dreaming of how amazing Madden would be 10 years from then with all the advances in technology, increased disc space and a decade worth of development to build on all the different game modes and innovate with new ideas.

    I paid $15 for the Origins PC download so I could try it out for myself without the full investment and have already cancelled my subscription. There once again has been no heart or soul put into the creation of this game. With the exception of a few minor, and I do mean MINOR additions and changes, this a repeat of the last 4 or 5 titles.

    They've stripped the fun out of anything that is not related to MUT... do we need to ask ourselves why or are we smart enough to figure out they are doing everything they can to funnel players into the cash shop?    … Expand

    Face of franchise is just a stupid little 2 game section that spits you into last years player controlled franchise mode play style. The passing controls are frustrating. The graphics are not that better from last year. Madden ultimate team is basically the same as last year. They didn't even bother to update anything the announcers say.     Game regressed for the first time ever. Awful unfinished game. Plays like it in alpha. Servers also suck and can end a mut season for you. Don’t buy!!

Seriously guys, if you want to support the game industry and help stop this gambling virus that is plaguing the industry, then don't buy any of these EA games, not any time soon.

    I will say you will enjoy this game if you want Madden 2018 with an updated roster or if you enjoy spending real life money for digital collecting cards

    Literally the worst football game I’ve ever played. Still ran by poor animations, No fluid mechanics. Story mode is complete garbage. 2k PLEASE save us from EA. I will NEVER play another madden game again after this.

    The game is the same as last year and even worse the removed the refs during the the play. Do not buy this game, take the 60$ and invest it its a way better alternative.

    Same ol same ol' Madden for the past 3 years, Code=Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V, Save. Seriously, check out some of the reviews. There honestly is Madden 19 banners in the practice game. Absolutely unforgivable EA. And this is 100 year anniversary for the NFL? NFL, fire EA!!

    1. CBs will sometimes run away from receiver in man coverage (without any fakes or change of direction from the WR).

    2. Kick meter disappears (usually in 3rd or 4th quarters)

    3. CPU will go for it on 4th down in the 4th quarter even during laughable blow outs (most recent was a 45 - 3 game with 4 mins left to play)

    4. CPU will also attempt onside kicks during blowouts, the more frustrating aspect is that the game will not allow you (in my experience) to audible into the formation to counter their onside kick attempt.

    5. AI defenders (even all pros like Kuechly) often watch the ball sail near them with no reaction.

    6. CPU receivers (even average receivers) seem to always make highly contested spectacular catches.

    7. When attempting press coverage with a safety blitz the safety(ies) will run back to their usual safety position upon adjusting coverage to press. While attempting to reposition the safety to be brought back to the line of scrimmage only to face the sideline (or sometimes even turn his back to the offense) after switching to another defender.

    8. Man Coverage in this game is essentially useless on 3rd down(or when CPU begins 2 minute drill), even the best CBs in the game get burned regularly.

    In the end if you were expecting a "polished" experience as has been advertised you will be quite disappointed, this game is more like 3-4 / 10 with all the bugs, if they cleaned it up it would definitely be a 7 because there are some interesting new mechanics (X-factor). It is EA after all though and they have proven to be inept at creating a true NFL simulator so I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for them to fix anything, also don't waste your money, buy something that does what it was meant to do.    … Expand

    The games are all pre-determined. Oh you have a game winning drive? Nope, your NFL receiver will drop a wide open pass with no defenders in sight, because the game doesn't want you to win. Oh you for sure will stop the opponent's game winning drive to seal the deal? Nope, their mediocre tight end is gonna make a one handed grab on fourth down while in triple coverage.

Sure Face of the Franchise and MUT try and rope you in, but after 30+ minutes in to either mode you realize how broken this game is. Then you have idiots from EA saying they can’t add more helmets to the game because of video memory?!?! Mother **** You had over 100 helmets in the NCAA games on **** PS2s?!?! **** this game man.     I firmly believe either A) the critics were paid or B) they just flat our lie. As of now there is no critic negative review. Yet.... the game is absolute filthy (in a bad way). I was done with the AI. I was done with the glitchy running. I was done with the same gameplay with minor graphic tweaks but not gameplay improvements. This game gets a 2 because of the NCAA play.

    Just complete and utter garbage. They consistently do nothing to improve any of the modes that don't make them money from microtransactions. Franchise hasn't had an upgrade in years and the "big" new feature this year is the pro bowl, which was already in Madden in the past.

Literally the same garbage football game as the last few years, but with a slightly altered user interface.     After trying the 10 hour trial, this is exactly what Madden 20's $60 (to $100 for you idiot MUT supporters) gives you , hence my first ever ZERO rating for anything on Metacritic. This has been the model for EA Tiburon's terrible Madden series that is in dire need of a complete top to bottom overhaul BADLY!

    Speak with your wallets those that are upset about this for years now, and those that are fine with this, YOU are ruining gaming by being compliant to this current corrupt Triple A gaming economy. STOP giving them money for half assed efforts! It didn't use to be like this just 10 to 15 years ago, games were actually released on day one completed with tons of content already included for $60!     This game is painfully average. I wanted more from Face of the Franchise and the gameplay in general, but it's better than Madden 19, which was atrocious. I'd take 2K5 with updated rosters over this game, so only get this game when it's on sale. It's not worth sixty bucks.

Its a normal part of the NFL season. They are still missing create a team, training camp, offensive coordinaters, (sorry if spelling is off) newspapers (and not the bland social media thing they have been using since madden 13),This is not a good game. I like the scenraio engine. But it could get bland after a while. They also decided not to upgrade the relocation as they have the same designs. Face of the franchise is pretty much the create a player with the franchise (With the college football playoff games). But still the story is cringe and you still cant even skip the cutscenes. After the playoff ends. Its pretty much create a player that you use in franchise. Superstar x factor is one of the only good things about the game. As now superstars play well like superstars. Gameplay got alot better as it feels more smooth on both offense and defense. But its not like there still problems. Computer AI is still lazy at times and it is still scripted at points. MUT is still the best mode. Whinch isnt saying much. I do not enjoy it. But for hat its trying to put out. Its fine. But the game is still awful. As franchise is still shallow and Face of the franchise is not what it was hyped up to be. In my opinion im giving Madden 20 a 4/10.… Expand

    I laughed the entire time playing this game. It’s sooooooo glitchy a lot of the times they would tell me I got a touchdown when I never crossed the goal line and the animations are terrible.

    Total garbage AI gameplay. Every game will have several mind blowing terrible plays, which stand out as very far from reality. This is not an overstatement and is unacceptable this far into the franchise.

    While the RyanMoody21 YouTube channel exposes just how fake fixed & garbage this game is. Allow me to explain further on this monopoly.

    The game is designed to keep you online as much as possible to increase the odds that you will spend money. Its best exploit is by not matching you up against players of your skill level or simply anyone, but they make sure that you play who they want you to play AND when you play, EA will help the team that they want to win. Why? I've never heard anyone explain this yet, but if EA can keep everyones record close to even, everyone will think that spending money to attempt to get just another player or 2 that they will be able to dominate and tip the scales on their winning percentage. It never works that way though. You still win the same amount. Your new player will perform like a true champion but other players will be slacking. The new players play hard for a month when released and then EA slows them down which makes you want to upgrade again and then you find yourself paying EA again.
    There's a number of different types of crypto currencies in the game except this is not able to be cashed in ever. It just serves to get you to again reach for your wallet.

    All of the different game modes that were a part of Madden and the fun things you could do before Ultimate Team took off are gone. You can play without Ultimate Team but Ultimate Team is EAs ONLY focus with the game.

EA has done the usual job of making multiple modes chock full of microtransactions, so if you have money to spend you can make an even better MUT team. That's if you can even figure out how to navigate through the menu, which a cluster bomb full of information and updates encouraging you to spend money.

    Also, Madden is pushing online play heavily, and no longer can you really experience a great football simulation as a single player when buying this game.

    So now, a quick breakdown of the PRO/CON list:

    Pro:
    - Dynamic roster updates, Madden also has made more of an effort to patch or nerf out plays that don't work well, or work too well, this year. Better running mechanics, overall fluid moving game-play.

    Cons:
    - Franchise mode. This mode is terrible and hasn't been updated in years. When relocating a team, they still have the same uniforms and city options they've had for the past three games. Trading is still horrible and Free Agency makes no sense, because no marque free agents ever hit until the third or fourth year. It's been this way for IDK, the last 10 or so years of Madden.
    - Play archetype system: It's a great idea until you realize that only your special teams players actually upgrade quickly, and that player performance in no way translates to upgrades or downgrades. (Example: I had a player rush for 1,700 yards in his second year, and he actually regressed by 5 overall points)
    - Defense is still impossible to play well at times, and the AI will kill you on the quick slant over and over. It's been a reoccuring issue for years now. You literally have to look up a cheat sheet online on how to play defense and what plays to call.
    - The games default settings are trash and every year you have to look at someone online for how to adjust sliders for actual quality gameplay.
    - Lastly, there is just no immersion in Madden. The only mode they put time into is a mode to create a fantasy team of players, and the game doesn't focus at all on features that would make it a realistic football simulator. HARD PASS.    … Expand

    Face of the Franchise is really fun but the customization options for the game as a whole is a joke so you end up with a player that looks like a slug in his face.
    The game looks fine visually but my biggest critique is the same as it was with Madden 19. There is still the completely retarded and scripted plays during games where flags, rules, physics and common sense are thrown out the window. Defenders can remove your player with brute force, catch the ball through other players bodies, cause an incomplete pass if a receiver is hit in any part off his body during a leaping/jumping catch, the AI on offense doesn't have a clue where the goal line or line to gain is, Offensive Linemen give up on plays at the snap so the QB gets sacked, Running in the Redzone is 85% of the time impossible in goal line formation, reviews and challenges makes no sense, the commentary is terrible, there is no halftime show..... still, the music is still the worst of any game franchise since I have taste and don't listen to Mumble-Rap, the AI still has plays on both defense and offense you can't beat and last but not least Zone defense doesn't work for the 8th time in a row in a madden game no matter what players you have on defense.
    It's still fun to play at times but especially the scripted plays ruin it every single time. EA don't care about you as a player so you shouldn't buy this game until it goes on sale.    … Expand

    Beyond the horrible unresponsive gameplay, every single menu is delayed, because it has to look through 10 years of bad code just to load a simple screen.

    This game ignores every mode to filter you into the Pay to Play mode, which preys on kids and adults with addiction tendencies.
    This mode is designed to make you spit out a never ending stream of money as new players are released daily, and unless you do not require sleep or any other activity other than playing this game, the only way to acquire them is by spending real world money to acquire coins which then turn into another digital currency and so on and so on.

    In the Madden 20 pay to play mode however, you cannot simply "buy" an item, you have to GAMBLE for lower items, then combine them into bigger items which can then be "auctioned" and combined to obtain an item.

    EA calls this surprise mechanics, but it is gambling. An average pack is $2-5 but better value bundles of packs can range up to $100 and absolutely nothing is guaranteed.

    If they advertise a limited time top tier card, the odds are approximately 1 in 4,705.903, to obtain that card in a random pack but they advertise a guaranteed mid tier card "or better", not revealing the odds, so you spend $1000 in a modern day carnival prize scam.

    In conclusion, this is a very poorly designed game. It has a ton of bad code piled on top of each other, the game play is extremely choppy and unpredictable and has numerous fundamental flaws, and they only mode they attempt to up keep up is designed to suck as much money as possible as fast as possible from your bank account.

    The critics may be paid to give Madden 20 a bunch of 8s and 9s but I'm not,

    I’ve been playing madden for 30 years. Extremely Disappointed. They simply repackaged Madden 19 into this. I rented it from redbox, played one game and returned it. EA clearly is looking for transaction revenues (new rosters and trading cards) at the expense of solid game development. Capitalism at its best. No pride in your product, just make as much as you can. Live off your name for years.

    Garbage ass game. Receivers drop every pass, you have less than 2 seconds to throw the ball but quarterbacks have a full second throwing animation so you can’t make a proper read, and receivers still drop possession catches. Horrible game I promise do not buy

Even in games like Madden 17, this wouldn't happen. Interceptions are scripted. I and others get 4+ picks a game because the newer Maddens have made it to where you can move 10 yards to the right, and run back for an easy interception. In real football, this would never happen. This game is extremely bad. Sometimes I can't tell if EA was making an NFL game or a FIFA game. It's off the charts in every category, and not in a good way.     Defensive AI is still horrible, blocking AI, all AI isn’t basically mentally disabled. It’s ok to play because it’s the only recent new football release. But EA have too much money and resources available to put out such a poor game. But well it looks good and the game sites and magazines still give glowing reviews.

Why is the challenge function even in the game if I can never use it?? I lost a game because Julio Jones ran out of bounds and my defender stopped covering him thinking the play was over, only to have Julio Jones step in bounds, catch the ball, and be called for a touchdown. I couldn’t challenge the ruling in the field. And the lack of AI common sense also didn’t allow for a booth review, which would ALWAYS happen in REAL FOOTBALL, it cost me a game. And it’s really frustrating seeing this year in and year out. This is another cash grab, and will most likely be the last time I spend my hard earned money on a madden football game for the foreseeable future. I wasted my money this year for a cash grab from EA. Don’t do what I did. Save your money, time, and hours of frustrating heartache. The passing is a joke, your WR can be wide open and your QB can be standing still and you dont even touch the stick just use a touch pass and he will throw it nowhere near the WR i wasted money on this game and i wont be buying another Madden game again

    It’s a buggy mess at times and EA only supports two of the modes for their game. It’s disappointing because it’s the only NFL game out there which is why people buy it. Madden Ultimate Team and Superstar K.O are the modes they pay the most attention to and they barely touch the other modes.

    To make a very long story short, Madden 20, like all of its predecessors on the current console generation, lacks depth. The game is shallow everywhere except for the Madden Ultimate Team mode, which is updated almost daily and receives numerous updates throughout the year. Unsurprisingly, this mode makes EA the most money by far.

    I did, however, give this game a "4", which means it has some redeeming qualities. The addition of X-Factor and Superstar players helps the game feel more alive and makes the good players feel good. I am not fond of the game-mode, but Ultimate Team is as good as its ever been. The franchise mode, which added a new scenario engine, is the best one we've had since Madden 12. Custom draft classes were implemented last year, and the Pro Bowl, which shouldn't have left in the first place, finally returned. Also, the new Superstar KO mode gives the Madden NFL series a little bit of that arcade-y feel that it's needed for a long time.

    Madden 20 is the "best" Madden game on current-gen consoles, game-play and depth wise, but we as frustrated players know that it can be so much more than a yearly cash-grab for EA.    … Expand

    I really enjoy the game but, the jump of difficulty from all-pro to all madden is ridiculous. All pro doesn’t even provide a challenge where as when I play on madden it is challenging but the main problem I have is fumbling, I will be running with an xfactor running back (also turned fumbling off because it pissed me off so much) and they will still strip me it is ridiculous

Would rather play head coach or madden 08 on pc than this garbage. no depth to franchise mode, all their energy seems to go to MUT. I do not find MUT fun or appealing. Bring back squads with regular teams. Bring realism, depth and consistency to franchise mode. At the very least,created an account just to say how much I hate this game and series. The X-Factors make the game super unrealistic. A special ability where you catch every pass over 50 yards? That doesn't happen in the NFL.     FRANCHISE - EA is letting us play the pro bowl again. After removing it. They removed and then advertised it like it was the biggest thing to happen to the game. The Scenario Engine is super flawed and there are a lot of issue that need to be fixed. Franchise still needs the overhaul it deserves cause it can't compete with franchise modes such as 2K's MyLeague and MLB The Show's Franchise. We still don't have things like training camp, better scouting(clicking 3 buttons isn't scouting), create-a-team, and a whole lot more.

    FACE OF THE FRANCHISE: Ok. WTF is this. 2 college games. 2. Only 2. Without the NCAA games, fans have been wanting some sort of a licensed NCAA type game. But advertising 2 games is super stupid. I would've been fine with 1 full season. Acting is terrible, and the 3 voices you can choose from are corny as hell. The draft combine is just the passing drills. No 40 yard dash? No bench press? No broad jump? Also, you can only play as a QB. I understand why, as the mode is in it's first year. After you get drafted, it's just the career mode we've had for years! Nothing else after the story! This was terrible even for its first year.

    MUT - not many improvements. Still no practice mode and things like create a team like the other sports games. Micro transactions still ruin the game, and I feel like the pack odds have decreased from last year.

    SUPERSTAR KO - No one asked for it. The game takes up too many resources that EA Devs have been saying that they don't have. The reason this mode exists is for marketing. I'm not saying the mode is bad(it's kinda fun), but with problems in every other game mode, EA decides to add the **** Migos and DJ Khaled.

    the game is trash. but what is worse than that is microtransactions. they manipulate young kids to waste a lot of money and gamble. the same game every year with less content and more cost. this is not how a video game should be

Attempt to jump to left at snap won’t work if it’s predetermined that you should jump right. Marcus Mariota in 2028 is dominating my 88 rated defense with receivers averaging 77.     The Yard is basically what the gameplay was made for since Madden is an arcade style game, not an actual simulation football game. It was a game mode literally nobody asked for. And you guessed it,    Franchise mode is an exact copy and paste from Madden 20. All they did was change the menu color. All the work that should have been done on Madden’s most beloved mode was used on The Yard.

    The Yard is basically what the gameplay was made for since Madden is an arcade style game, not an actual simulation football game. It was a game mode literally nobody asked for. And you guessed it, more micro transactions! They finally added mouth pieces after 10 years but you can only get them in The Yard. The blocking is still broken. Lead blocking is joke, the FB or pulling lineman will run right passed a LB and watch you get destroyed as he continues up field to block the safety after you already got stuffed. Pass trajectories are still god awful, touch passes don’t exist. The game is still HEAVILY animation dependent which sucks. It’s the reason you get sucked into blockers and get weird unrealistic stops at the 1 yard line instead of scoring. The announcers are still bad. They don’t follow what’s happening on the field very well and sometimes just flat out make no sense. Example “First and goal from the the 10 after the costly fumble but they can still pick up a 1st down.” Meanwhile I’m on my own 10 and it’s clearly not first and goal. Or, play as the Packers and hand the ball to AJ Dillon and laugh as they call him Walter Payton lol.

    As long as Madden uses the Frostbite engine I don’t think the gameplay will ever actually get better. The same issues we’ve had for a decade still exist. It’s very disheartening at this point. If you were planning on getting Madden 21 I’d wait and see what it looks like on next gen consoles if you can afford it. If not just download the latest rosters from Madden share on Madden 20 and enjoy. Unless all you care about is MUT and you’re addicted to gambling and throwing money away, then this game is perfect for you.    … Expand

    Madden NFL 20 is still one of the best videogames if you want to simulate any sport but it's very clear that it needs more: more graphics, more gameplay changes, more news in its modes... X-Factor is a good new, but still insufficient to sense that gameplay is different that last year's edition.

    Madden NFL 20 takes a step in the right direction and I really enjoyed the X-Factor additions to the series. While I still think some form of competition would force EA to make more drastic changes, I’m not optimistic with any developers taking a spin with the football genre (maybe the XFL?). If you haven’t caught the pigskin for a few seasons, Madden NFL 20 is the right route to run for this year. With the new consoles coming (most likely) next holiday, I’m looking forward to seeing what EA builds upon from Madden NFL 20 and brings over to next gen. For now I’ll enjoy taking the Broncos to the Super Bowl, while beating up the cover pretty boy, Mahomes (not bitter at all).
