Madden NFL 20 has reached an additional milestone thanks to the addition of significant new features. It remains the best American football experience.

However it got here, it’s a distilled, slightly faster game that focuses on ironing out its rough spots rather than introducing anything that could cause new ones. And as much as we love the spectacle of an attempt at interactive story or the novelty of a quirky new side mode, enhancing the part people actually play could be of more long-term value.

The unveiling of Superstar X-Factors had long-term fans of the series cowering, but happily they inject welcome freshness into a stalwart that had grown a tad stale. [Issue#166, p.86]

Madden NFL 20 maintains important elements of previous deliveries, but it is still an experience of contrasts with successes and specific errors that may change in the future. Despite this, it is a good football game that will keep fans entertained throughout the season.

Madden NFL 20 takes a step in the right direction and I really enjoyed the X-Factor additions to the series. While I still think some form of competition would force EA to make more drastic changes, I’m not optimistic with any developers taking a spin with the football genre (maybe the XFL?). If you haven’t caught the pigskin for a few seasons, Madden NFL 20 is the right route to run for this year. With the new consoles coming (most likely) next holiday, I’m looking forward to seeing what EA builds upon from Madden NFL 20 and brings over to next gen. For now I’ll enjoy taking the Broncos to the Super Bowl, while beating up the cover pretty boy, Mahomes (not bitter at all).

The greatest show on turf gets a bit more personality with Madden NFL 20’s new X-Factor abilities. While this headline addition only applies to the sport’s biggest superstars, it injects new life into the on-field action. The new QB1 campaign may have potential in the future, but in its current guise it’s a step back from the Longshot story explored in previous entries, while the fan-favourite Franchise mode continues to see neglect. Ultimate Team is unquestionably the series’ underlying bread-and-butter, and with tons of new challenges to complete, it’s sure to become your new obsession as American football’s 100th season gets underway – just be wary of investing too much money into the mode.

Simply put, Madden NFL 20 just isn’t all that enjoyable as a whole. Gameplay still has unfixed issues that have been prevalent for years and Franchise is still lacking the complete overhaul and player control it’s needed for years. Face of the Franchise is a total flop, serving as more proof that it’s time for EA to give up cinematic sports stories. Sure, Ultimate Team got some needed improvements and some X-Factors are fun to mess around with – but this year is more proof than ever that Madden needs a serious overhaul in nearly every aspect.

All pro doesn’t even provide a challenge where as when I play on madden it is challenging but the main problem I have is fumbling, I will be running with an xfactor running back (also turned fumbling off because it pissed me off so much) and they will still strip me it is ridiculous Expand

The game has fewer features then it did a decade ago and has only increased the number of bugs and glitches. Leaves me feeling defeated, because of gameplay flaws, scripted plays, triggered animations, lack of depth, empty “new” additions, old useless features (challenging plays??), the list goes on - and yet developer continues to ignore our concerns and demands. I have high hopes that the NFL will not renew the exclusive agreement so that it will force EA to start putting out a product that listenes to the fanbase and proves to us that they deserve our $80. One can dream. Expand

Can barely finish a franchise game without something just weird for gameplay standards to happen. Its not worth the 20 dollars I paid you can tell its not a finished or thought out project whatsoever. Just all around extremely pathetic attempt at not only a football game but a video game in general. Take some time off and build off the foundation that 2k5 amd Madden 08 put down. Expand
