Career mode is very good and extremely detailed. Offers lots of replay value. Jerseys and graphics are crisp. They've done a great job incorporating coaches on the sidelines. Very good game all around, for me.

Madden 17 is a game that has no value over its predecessor other than very bizarre additions and unnecessary tweakings. For instance, while the juke moves added were nice, the overall running animations remain awkward and unhuman-like. The fact that they didn't address this is a prime example of the half-done efforts Tiburon has become known for as a developer (paint the walls, ignore the crumbling foundation).

The tackle-breaking mechanic would've been fine as just a simple button-mash function, instead Tiburon turned into a game of simon-says with buttons popping up over your runner's head. To make matters worse, you can't even turn it off. What were they thinking? How they were able to screw up something so simple surpasses all reasonable understanding.

Did like you like the presentation cameras from Madden 16? Me, too! But, say goodbye to those, because Brian Murray decided to scrap pretty much all pre-play camera work and replace them shots of... the HEAD COACH, something nobody asked for and nobody really thinks is a good idea. Don't like that way overdone low shot post-play? Too bad, because that shot now dominates post-play. Why he and Tiburon overall seems to think cameras need to be some kind of artistic statement rather than just regular Sunday TV broadcast is baffling and it's also ruined the visual communication of the game. And don't even let me get started on that shot where the camera whips over to a player instead of cutting to him. Just absolutely awful, and dizzying.

Is the AI better? Nope. Lineman still run past obvious blocking assignments as if it's the right thing to do. The wrong animations play at the wrong times, and rules mistakes and clock management logic remain the same problem as it has for many years, unchanged, happening in the exact same ways in the exact same situations.

Are the animations better? Nope. They still look very disjointed, herky jerky, and unhuman. The Real-Time Physics engine only compounds the problem since limbs and torsos do very bizarre things on impact.

The kick meter is ugly and pointlessly more difficult to use. Pointless because kickers make the overwhelming majority of their kicks in the real NFL. Kicking shouldn't be less effective in a video game than it is in real life. It's these kinds of approaches that tell us Tiburon is pretty clueless.

Want realistic weather? Good luck. Despite what Jean Adams believes, every snow game is not a blizzard, every rain game is not a monsoon. There is something called flurries that don't stick to the ground. There is something called a drizzle instead of a heavy rain downpour. There is something called a temperature, but you can't control any of that in Madden. In real life, fields actually degrade in dry conditions, and they degrade in wet conditions, but not in Madden. Fields even have natural wear and look different from one another including its cutting patterns, but not in Madden. Do their artists ever watch NFL games? If they say they do, I don't believe them.

Jean Adams thinks Madden's weather is realistic. Jean Adams either needs new glasses or needs to watch an actual NFL game at some point in his life.

You've seen glowing reviews from unreliable sources like Polygon's idiotic Owen Good, and the rest of the joke gaming media which has no clue at all how the sport of football works based on what they say in their reviews. Don't trust those reviews. This game is a nothing burger. Totally skippable. I'm still playing 16 which in itself isn't even that good, but at least the cameras aren't a mess (I don't want to see my head coach that much in a lifetime as I do in a single drive in 17), and I'm not forced to see pop-ups while I'm running where I'm forced to play Simon Says.

I'm giving this game and the team that has kept it stagnant for over 2 generations a hard-earned ZERO. Why hard you ask? Because to continue to produce a product so devoid of logic and basic quality on so many of the most basic of things for SO long, a development team has to make an effort to be indifferent and complacent. This simply cannot happen by mere chance.

So I got Madden 17 by EA Sports and they did a great job on the game for the Ps4. The graphics for the game were outstanding and when you played the game it was very fluent and smooth to play. And when I play a game i don't want it to take a long time to update when someone gets traded or if they are putting a update in the game. This game probably takes only 3 seconds to update and that’s what I like in a game.

Some of the new features are just absolutely great they got a new ultimate team mode where you can draft your own team of fantasy players and play against other people with your team. When you play against other people the game’s difficulty goes up to all star so if you want to be prepared playing against someone i wouldn’t play on rookie. If you have had this game in the previous years i would make the game difficulty more challenging but if you are a newcomer to the game or the console I would recommend you play on the rookie or pro game mode.

Some of the new things madden 17 has is there is a new type of field goal meter and it is more challenging to kick field goals. But there are way better graphics and I felt like I was in the actual game being the quarterback the game is so realistic. Also if there is a trade in the NFL you just have to update the game and then boom the guy that got traded is on the right team it only takes about a second for the game to update. If you have any questions please comment and ask i will be happy to answer them for you.

    CONS
-The “wide open” elite receiver dropped passes percentage is just way too high.
    -Run pass glitch.

The Madden franchise is back again, just like every other year, and with a new year means new bugs. First off, there’s a new glitch known as the run and pass glitch. The Run and Pass glitch is pretty much where you are playing an opponent that knows exactly what play you are running therefor he is able to defend it. I will say, it’s extremely hard to beat an opponent that knows what you are doing. Second off, the fact that elite receivers are dropping wide open passes is just ridiculous, this percentage is way too high and most likely will be fixed. Some good changes to the game are the fact that the “Playmaker” function has been toned down to a reasonable rate. Last year, using playmaker was just “OP” (overpowered) you were able to control multiple receivers while in the pocket . This year, you are only allowed to control the nearest receiver to you.

When I first bought Madden 17 for the PS4 I was extremely excited to see what this season’s edition had to offer. Little did i know, i was in or a big disappointment. This year was just like every other year, same game, same teams, just tweaked some things here and there. Honestly, it took me a little while to find something new that’s been implemented into the game, but now that i have found just a few things i really feel that this year’s edition of Madden has a chance to be different from all the others. Overall, I think that Madden is developing and with the right updates and tweaks the game can be a much better product. I would recommend this game to somebody that doesn’t get mad easily, because it is a very rage inducing game. Also, if you are looking for a game to just play with your friends, I would stick to Call of Duty or even the NBA franchise.

This game sells for $60 at stores like gamestop, target, walmart, etc.. The game will keep you entertained for weeks with its many game modes. The game has gone to far lengths to make madden more realistic and improve the gameplay quality and it was a hit. They created a all new ball-carrier moves and started from the ground up. They didn’t change everything though and kept their classic gameplay modes like Franchise.
This year madden featured Franchise mode in their game and it played off. Their motto is “Take your team all the way and put yourself in the middle of your team's franchise mode. The game mode has 3 basic options in the beginning. You get to chose between being a player, coach, or owner. As a player you can either create one or play as a real player in the league. As a player, You can choose between 4 different positions. (Quarterback, Running Back, Wide Receiver, and Tight End) You earn points from playing games and practice. You use those points to Upgrade your player and make him better. If you choose to become a coach this is like the regular season mode. You set season goals and if you reach them you can upgrade your coach to help be more persuasive in free agency. In this mode you get to play as any of the 32 teams in the NFL. Your goal in this mode is to win the superbowl. You can play with up to 32 different people and each person has there own team. In the owner mode you can to call all the shots, you can move your team to a different city, sign free agents, and control your coaching staff.
Madden this year created a brand new ball carrier moves. This makes it easier to stiff arm, hurdle, dive, or spin move a defender. With all the detail going into one moment of the game, I’m really surprised it runs that fluidly. EA sports also, improved it graphics and online gameplay. Beside some glitches and lags, the online gameplay has improved extremely from madden 16. Some of the things it has improved from madden 16, is the brand new kicking meter which makes it possible to miss and extra point or field goal. Another major change is that player ratings matter when performing ball carrier moves, the ratings might determine if you perform the move or not, before it was just user timing. Online game modes include Draft Champions (draft player and compete against other online gamers with your team) and online franchise. (play a season against other online gamers)
This game is rated E for everyone and I really believe that everyone will enjoy this game. Even if you aren’t a big football fan, EA Sports has put so much work into this game that I believe everyone will at least find one game mode that they enjoy. Multiple people have said this is the best madden game ever and I agree and once you start playing, you will be spending endless hours of fun on it.

Trash. I hadn't bought a Madden game for four or five years and I wish that I wouldn't have wasted my money on this one. Everyone else has already mentioned the faults with it, but No.1 in my book is the disparity between how easy it is to pass and how absurdly difficult it is to run the ball. I won't be buying another NFL game until someone else gets a license to make them.

    Where to start?

    1. There is SOOOO much presentation, that it completely interferes with, dominates, and overshadows gameplay. It's immediately overwhelming and annoying. I don't need nor want to watch a replay and/or the coach picking his nose after every single play. Then, trying to "X" out of all of the BS fluff and presentation just so that I can call my next play, there is lag, which of course leads to you calling whatever play was on the screen for the X button.

    2. 6 minute quarters don't lead to enough plays, probably bc so much time is wasted watching presentations. In NCAA football, I could play 5 minute quarters and you could run a solid amount of plays in that time, not here.

    3. Passing is ridiculously easy.

    4. Rushing is almost impossible. I get it, the NFL is a passing league, but wow, at least let people who want to run the ball have SOME success.

    5. Players get tired WAY too quickly.

    6. Players get injured WAY too frequently.

    7. The cpu automatically substitutes backups in WAY too often.

Overall, I feel like I'm being forced to watch a presentation of an NFL game and have very little control of the actual game. When I do actually have control of the game, I'm being forced to be a pass happy team and get punished for even attempting a running play.

I bought into the hype that franchise was improved and that they really focused on it this year. HUGE MISTAKE!!! They've done very little of substance to the franchise mode. I actually think they've made it worse.

So let's get into this further. What really kills the franchise mode for me is the menu's. Why the Madden team can't settle on a decent functional menu is beyond me. I mean a key part of your season is your record and you can't even seen your record on the main menu screen. You have to search through millions of different screens to find the stats and info that you want. It's almost like they're so ashamed of the little addition they've made to things like scouting and the draft that they through it on the back page to hide it from people. I've had issues with Madden games in the past but this is the first one that I've bought and literally only put a few hours into it and said to hell with it.

The reason I did give it a few points though is that I do think the gameplay is improved. I admittedly haven't played a Madden since like Madden 13 so I don't know if the improvements were in past years games but the gameplay has a little better animations and the tackles flow better than in the 13 version. With that said, this is a pretty low bar I'm setting here. Overall I think to catch up with other sports games they need a completely new engine. The IGNITE engine is/was a complete failure imo. It seems like it was just a reskin or the older generations engine.

So just to sum this up, unless you only buy Madden purely for the gameplay and nothing else, STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS GAME!!! All the so called improvements in the franchise mode are minimal and most of them are terrible.

I understand the game gets a lot of hate from people saying "its the same every year" and I am not one of those people because its football its going to be the same pretty much. This is by far the most bug filled Madden or almost any game I have ever played in my entire life and I've played some terrible games. The new "features" are mostly big flopping turds. In order to address the past issue of a qb squirting the ball out animation ea has overcompensated by making almost every sack becoming a fumble. This does not fix the problem and all it does is substitute 1 bad animation for 1 game breaking one.No qb at any level anywhere would fumble this much. It would easily equate to 35 fumbles per season. How is that realistic? Well it isnt at all.The fact that people can spam the strip ball button to generate a strip is terrible. The way to fix that is if someone spams the button the game makes that player whiff and stumble. It is never a good idea to reward bum players. The same with the interception. People shouldn't be able to spam y or triangle because it should be about reading the offense and making a play on the ball. Middle linebackers are still able to bat and pick balls that would realistically be well over their reach. a linebacker who is 5 yards off the line shouldn't be able to get close to a 25+ yard pass and in real life you would look like a complete moron trying to jump in that situation with your hands out expecting a interception and your coach would throw you into concussion protocol right away. Its nice that ea makes patches during the season to address some of the bugs but games shouldn't be released with day 1 patches in mind as in my mind a game that needs patched and still releasing it is just spotty work and sadly is the norm in the gaming community as a whole and shouldn't be accepted. Instead of fixing glaring legacy issues with the game such as above mentioned mlb issues and warp tackles the game wants to focus on presentation and the need to change the kicking meter as if that is what the fans were clamoring for. At the end of the day this game is nothing more then a shiny turd. Yes to a review publication it may look all nice for those unearned high review scores but the more you dig into it the more you see and smell that it is just a turd. Sadly Madden 17 you belong in the trash. Its just to bad that ea doesn't have any competition in this genre because im certain it would rate higher among fans and reviewers alike and the only reasons this game sells is because it is the only option and mut. With decreased pack odds over the past few seasons ea just wants to milk more money from the players and that is a extortion scam I no longer will be apart of. Expand

This game is absolutely garbage...i can go down a list of pure foolishness that occurs on this game...1)the little "game-on-the-line Field Goal" feature is completely stupid. The camera view for that won't even let you see where you're aiming the ball at and the kick accuracy meter disappears before you even hit it...2)All it takes is for a defender to touch you when you're in the processThis game is absolutely garbage...i can go down a list of pure foolishness that occurs on this game...1)the little "game-on-the-line Field Goal" feature is completely stupid. Rolling out to scramble is a lost cause...AI capabilities are minimal, the computer will just let a ball fly right over a defender's head...you pretty much have to control a player for him to make a football move...the only penalties called are offsides or false start and sometimes the computer will line up offsides at the start of the play...4)you can't hike the ball with a defender on the wrong side of the ball in hurry-up offense situations...5) Big-Play receivers catch anything that you throw their way no matter who is in coverage...6) if the game wants a blocked field goal it will pause the kicker from moving to kick the ball just so the defense can block it...7)juke moves are terribly lethargic...the game is just terrible...far from realistic...way off the mark...the absolute worst madden yet... New commentary brings a better feel to the games presentation over the bland commentary of Jim Nantz and Phil Simms. Has finally included a practice squad feature. EA has succeeded in making this the worst madden to date! literally 20 fumbles in 1 game ...are you serious wtf is the logic here. terrible game play, graphics get no better than last year. only thing that is improved is the announcers other than that this is the biggest waste of 60 bucks I could think of and that includes giving homeless crackheads money. and don't get me started on allEA has succeeded in making this the worst madden to date! literally 20 fumbles in 1 game ...are you serious wtf is the logic here. terrible game play, graphics get no better than last year. only thing that is improved is the announcers other than that this is the biggest waste of 60 bucks I could think of and that includes giving homeless crackheads money. and don't get me started on all the exploiting already going on **** ridiculus! This is just pathetic. They have a monopoly on the NFL tag and it's showing now more than ever. They have changed all the mechanics to button mini games. They made the kicking the worst I've ever seen it. The run game is completely ruined. Franchise is ridiculously over detailed and obnoxious. MUT is still the same old cash grab scheme. Draft champions isn't fun even in the slightest. TheThis is just pathetic. They have a monopoly on the NFL tag and it's showing now more than ever. The soundtrack is God awful and they even blocked the ability to play spotify while playing madden. I heard so much about how great commentary is supposed to be in this one but I hear the same exact things EVERY SINGLE DRIVE AND GAME. I haven't bought a current madden since 2003 and I'm damned sure never buying another unless it's cheap and pre-owned. EA are the most disrespectful company around. Gets a 2 for alright graphics, even though Madden 2010 looks better on the 360. Just a total cash grab and insult to us. Expand

I'm a die hard Madden fan but this game by far is the worst Madden ever!!!!!!! Pass defense is pretty much non existent. The AI is completely dumbfounded most of the time and will either run the other way or don't do anything but stand there. The super tackles where you can just press X and the defender warps to the ball carrier and bring him down. This game just sucks. EA Sports get it to together Expand

Last year's game was one of the best Madden releases in a long time and they made it better this year.

Every year people say this is the same game...because it is the same game. What do you want? It's a football simulation game. They build on it incrementally. If you can't tell the difference in gameplay this year from last year you are delusional. Franchise Mode is much better.

Franchise Mode is much better. EVERYTHING is streamlined and smoother. Trades are easier to negotiate, the draft classes more realistic with hidden gems in the later rounds, and players who won't make the cut in early rounds. Free Agency is packed with superstars like it was in the previous years. You can edit ratings you disagree with or create superstars.

The running game is improved (and more challenging) the AI on Defense seems smarter most of the time. They finally call penalties other than holding and offsides. Even though PI is clearly a generated event with an animation as are INTs sometimes. It's getting better, NOT worse.

The new play by play guys and dialogue are worth the $60 alone. It appears the dialogue is getting updated every so often through a DL so it stays fresh. Phil Simms and Jim Nantz were the worst.

The level of customization to the gameplay is practically unparalleled in any other sports game. 2K would never let you edit players, have gameplay and xp sliders in Franchise Mode. EA isn't jamming microtransactions into every game mode (just MUT).

I guess the Madden developers don't believe in the saying if it ain't broke why fix it . Same theme every year 3 steps forward 5 backwards . 2nd review, it gets worse. I gave it a 1 the first time only to realize later that the game is broken. An entire year of my franchise was totally wasted because EA is to busy counting their money to even test this crap!!!. What is good about the game is a new commentary team and additions to the running game. Bad about the game, soundtrack sucks, player development is pointless because it is so slow, the draft breaks the game. Player ratings are not accurate, during the season unless you scroll through the tabs you have no idea what is going on in the rest of the league. Why can't we see highlights of other games during halftime (like you could with 2k 10 years ago!!!). Between games practice is a huge waste of time. Each week the game acts surprised that you don't want to do it. Why would I want to waste 15 min (6 of which are loading screens) to get an extra 200 xp which is worth NOTHING. I like the idea of improving my players but not if its done in some fee to play Clash of Clans Grind. God I wish there was another option for football but there isn't. Expand

A new madden that genuinely feels fresh rather than a half-hearted, contractually-binding annual roster update. [Nov 2016, p.91]

Quite simply, Madden NFL 17 is the best Madden game to date. The adjustments in the offensive and defensive gameplay mechanics really improve the realism and enjoyment of the game.
