    The Good:
    Beautiful environment, chaotic car combat, great world building

    The Bad:
    Repetitive fetch quests, shallow hand-to-hand combat, inconsistent difficulty

    Verdict:
    Good, not great. Mad Max is fun albeit pure fluff. Worth playing if you're a fan.

    one of the best single player experiences i have had this year... i just don't know why this game gets poor ratings from other reviewing sites ... i am just loving this game .. combat is great almost identical to batman arkham trilogy .. visuals are great... driving is good too... but .. jump button feels a bit awkward ,,,

    A game the height of the Mad Max series, breakneck combat both on foot and in vehicle direction. Beautiful graphics and landscapes that yield good pictures. Live and intriguing universe. Although some physical errors and short story , the game provides hours of fun and worth every penny. Recommend!

    Mad Max was created with hardcore fans in mind. Tons of useful upgrades and scrap that help you build your Magnum Opus in an extremely bleak world. You may find yourself overwhelmed at first by the games Map and all the side quests, but it seems just about everything you do comes with some kind of reward, big and small. Some players may be disappointed just sticking with the main storyMad Max was created with hardcore fans in mind.     Only minor complaints: yes, it gets a bit repetitive but only after many, MANY hours in, and button arrangement could have been tweaked.     Don't really understand the mixed reviews of this - this game was immensely fun and the attention to detail of George Miller's world is just outstanding! It's visceral, brutal and the driving mechanics are brilliant! Some of it can be rough around the edges and the story isn't all interesting but the amount of technical heart that has gone into this makes it worth a recommendation.

    It's one of those games like MGS5,Ubisoft games where there's a huge map but you are basically repeating chores over and over without any effort into creating a story driven narrative. Once you get used to the novelty of the visuals, it's extremely dull

A simple story but in keeping with the universe to which it belongs, I especially liked the setting of several of the dungeons to explore in secondary missions or to find new parts for the car, with a dark and terrifying atmosphere.     This was the first ps4 video game i have ever played and it was a blast. Mad Max at first may look boring, but at the end it surely gives you a feel, that your precious time that you have spend on this game was worth it. Graphics are great, the story is suprisingly good (btw the latest movie had no plot what so ever), and gameplay is fun.     Another open world game of rinse and repeat. The repetition is mind boggling and depth is shallow. It is worth a play for the desert environments and driving alone, without the distractions. The game will become a bargain bin game sooner than later.

    An underrated fun game. When i bought this game i was expecting a game where you drive around and do stuff along some car combat mechanics, and it is exactly that. Al-tough it may get repetitive for those that want to complete the game 100%, for me it never got old. Taking camps, scarecrows and looking for collectibles is fun, and the main story is enjoyable.     This game was cruelly underrated on release and deserves to be played, yes it borrows off other games but it so much fun you soon ignore its failings , please ignore the poor scores on here and search out a copy , and here's hoping to a sequel.

    I have seen this melee style of combat done before and better in Batman Arkham games. It takes a lot to get me into a third person and/or driving games these days. The scenic driving and car combat was fun. The melee combat worked, but nothing woo hoo.

    The overall game was a lot of doing the same stock stuff over and over again, but with more added intensity the further I progressed. I personally never got bored, because I was always seeing new locations when doing the same stuff. The map is huge and for a desert it had many a new nook and cranny to explore. The scripted end game BS was kind of annoying, but they wanted to push that cinematic look.

    Some small bugs and a few annoying glitches which led to very cheap deaths. Poorly optimized at times on the legacy PS4. With very bad slow downs in the frame rate when several cars are on screen. I had a lot of fun with this game, but the technical problems do effect the score.    … Expand

    You can't platinum this game because of discontinued servers, which basically makes the "Up to the task" trophy unobtainable. So if you like to finish your games all the way through, I suggest you stay way clear of this game! (1/10 instead of 0/10 because it's not a bad game in itself)

    Good game. It's a shame, there won't be the second one because the gameplay is strong and visuals, while not technically ideal, are artfully and immersive. We would only need a bit better story and a little more complication in fighting and looting (f*cking scraps...). Kudos to people who had developed it. You were just unlucky with unfair reviews.

Not following any of the movies, but taking a little from each film and making an original game is what the developers have done. The cars are accurate to the films and it is Maxes goal to reacquire his stolen interceptor. To do this he has to build an even more sinister car and defeat many gangs throughout the game. The missions can be repetitive, however it becomes addictive just to upgrade your car so you bear with it and keep playing. The story is average and could have been so much more, with the ending being very jarring. It is sad that the game was not more of a success as they would have made a sequel for sure. I don't have much to complain about this game, if anything I would say that there are many other vehicles, but they was never really a reason to use them as the one you are building is so much better. I would have loved to see more missions with other vehicles and perhaps missions where your dog goes with you.

    I feel this game will be a cult hit in the future and hope the devs revisit it again. Just need to utilize more of the map by including fleshed out missions and they would have had a winner perhaps a AAA game.    … Expand

    Great fun, stellar graphics on the PS4, fantastic customization and upgrade mechanics, vast and scenic open world, decent story, perfect survival mechanics, brilliant gameplay. Definitely worth buying, one of the best games I've played all year.

    Fun game, really beautiful. only thing that kinda sucks is the controls/movement of max, he can't climb simple things he should be able to other than i really enjoy the game.

    Everything about this game is great except for how repetitive it is. Doing the same missions over and over again mad bored of the game halfway through. The car combat was suprisingly great and the other gadgets the car had were impressive and plentiful.

I acknowledge that it seems underrated by the critics, Here, we have a game with a nice upgrading system, good driving mechanics, good shooting and also decent fighting. The gameplay is really fluid and smooth. I also really enjoyed the graphics and the unique vibe this game has. I would say that Mad Max is easier than most other PS4 games I playedThis game is really good for sure ! It means that this game is not frustrating (especially if you don't rush the main story and complete a few strongholds in order to upgrade properly).

    However, there is an important lack of diversity in the different strongholds that appear on the map (they all look the same). So, I can't recommend a 100% playthrough but I would say that if you complete the main story and do..let's say...half of the optional quests, you should have a great time with this game.

    We can easily compare this game to Far Cry and Assassin's Creed because of the open world design.

    I ranked this game 10 because I think this title deserves more credit. It has a good open world atmosphere. You can see a devastating sand storm coming your way and then you have to run for your life and take shelter. It has a very nice graphics, fair story, nice combat system, and very fun car combat.

The upgrades you need to do on your car so you can proceed on the main story are mainly based on eliminating a gang influence on the region and getting the upgrades from the enemies cars. Although the game can be boring in multiple moments, its still a great game for fans of the movies, and also, the graphics are lovely, also the map is nicely done and offers a wide open desert to explore.… Expand

    Mad Max está cargado de contenido especialmente secundario, y cuando digo cargado digo hasta los topes. Tanto que puede llegar a convertirse en algo repetitivo hasta para el mayor fan del farmeo de objetivos secundarios (Más de 200 puntos de saqueo, decenas de reliquias, campamentos, atalayas, estructuras que derribar, campos de minas, convoyes...). Por otro lado su campaña es más modesta en cuanto a duración y extensión, por lo que no se hace pesada ni repetitiva en ningún momento. Aunque tampoco brilla en ningún punto.

    El combate se divide en el cuerpo a cuerpo o melee y el combate de coches. El primero toma las mecánicas fielmente marcadas por la saga Batman Arkham y las reproduce de manera bastante satisfactoria aunque sin una profundidad que si se echa en falta. Por otro lado, en el segundo caso, el combate a motor es ágil y dinámico y cumple en todos sus aspectos, pero que le falta una pequeña chispa que le pueda llegar a hacer brillar todo lo que debería.

    Mad Max es un juego muy sólido que recuerdo en su día recibió duros golpes por la crítica profesional y no puedo entender por qué. Avalanche no destaca en nada con su obra, pero lo que hace lo hace bien y tampoco tiene delirios de grandeza en ningún momento. Aprovecharon para cubrir en el sector el lanzamiento de Fury Road y les salió un producto bueno.

And there's a guy named Max in it.

    The game is surprisingly fun. Tearing apart other vehicles and driving over NPC's is satisfying, and even the hand to hand combat is fun for a while. The map is HUGE! And that's where a big issue also lies.

    The Map might even be too huge. It does get the feeling of a desolate world across, but with little variation of what you will actually do in the world it feels like too much of the same. The combat gets very repetitive, and even the bosses are almost exact copies of each other. The only thing that changes is the actually location and hideout.

    So it's about shooting, fighting, racing and carnage. And there's a story! Not a particularly interesting one, but there is one. Some missions do immerse you, and others feel like ordinary fetch quests.

    All in all it's a good game. I give it a 7/10.    … Expand

    This game surprised the heck out of me. It was like a wasteland RPG with awesome quests but a GTA style car you drove around F***ing people up in. Really well made, decent size world and solid progression. Didn't like being gated by how strong my car was and lost interest after a while, but perhaps I'll go back to it one day. The fact it was free on PS plus one month is a steal

    Dream game,Chumbucket and Magnum Opus are awesome.I want a sequel when they are finished with Rage 2.
    Altough all Top Dog bosses are the same with one swing animation and there are no interesting random wanderers.

    I actually thinks this game is solid 8. But it's massively underrated. Driving is fun. Combat is good. Graphics look very good even now in 2020. I think there no way to do better mad max game

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A really fun game. The graphics and physics simulation on the cars are great. The hand to hand combat moves also are a pleasure to learn. I really enjoyed the leveling system too.

    The one negative thing about the game is that at a few key places you’re forced to act in a way that’s pretty inconsistent with 95% of the way you played up until then. That felt kind of terrible and to happen at the end when you’ve invested so much was kind of really sucky. The ability to choose and then a little bit of time invested in two endings would have felt quite a bit more fair.    … Expand

    Hra je za mě překvapením roku. Perfektní vizual, se zabavnou hratelností dělá z Mad Maxe jednu z nejlepších Open World PostApo her. Super jízdní model vozidel, a jejich destrukce s výbuchy jsou vážně impozantní. Avalanche studios se vážně předvedli, a ukazali že to umí, pokud mají dostatek peněz a času na hru.

However, sometimes i switch to 3rd person in confined spaces to better see what I’m doing.There is a real sense of accomplishment that you get while progressing in the world. Between the skill tree, the upgrades to your abilities as well as to your car, you feel like a badass while you’re leveling up!!!!! For a post apocalyptic game, the graphics for the environments look amazing, not to mention the great effects of the sky & sunsets, etc. it even looks killer at night!!! I love the look of shadows of the clouds rolling across the landscapes! The hand to hand combat (which borrows heavily from the Batman games) has a real sense of weight and crunch to it, especially if you play with headphones! I love Avalanche games as I have played all of the Just Cause games since Just Cause 2. I would’ve loved to have seen a sequel for this game, but sadly i know we will never get one!!! :( I want to thank the team at Avalanche for this game, you branched out from Just Cause & made a KILLER game which unfortunately went way under the radar of many gamers!!!!!!!!… Expand

    Its not a bad game on any terms, but it gets so mindlessly repetitive that I had to stop playing for a while and get back at it weeks later. On its core, its the batman combat style with cool cars, but I feel like the game really doesn’t give you that much to do. Not good, but not bad either, for a movie inspired game, it could have gone waaaay worse

    Эти покатушки меня всегда бесят в играх, но здесь это типа фишка всей серии, куда же без неё. Но как же эта фишка ужасно материализована в этой игре.
    В начале игры не дают даже порулить полностью идеальной, прокачанной машиной, чтобы оценить к чему надо стремиться!
    Кстати это часто позволяют в подобных играх.
    Мало того, что управлять не прокаченной машиной ужасно неудобно. Первые три часа вообще бесят, ты вроде вкладываешь средства в автомобиль, а он практически не меняется!
    Короче мне было очень приятно проходить пешую часть игры, но когда дело доходило до покатушек, то после 10 - 15 смертей (это же не Dark Souls, где в этом смысл), от злости, удаляешь игру и забываешь о ней месяца на два.
    Короче, игра для меня заработала как надо в последние 3-4 часа, когда машина, наконец, то прокачалась, ездила более менее прямо и не гибла от одного столкновения.
    В принципе Mad Max мне понравилась, но если будет продолжение, то хотелось бы увидеть переработку гоночного геймплея.    … Expand

    Игру как будто недоделали, такое ощущение что это хорошая игра по фильму. Хороший сюжет, атмосфера. Минусы это пустота, линейность в прокачке, и обрезанная боевая система.

The only thing that pushes this game down is the bugs there are a ton of them, none of those who happened to me made me restart the game but I know that that happens.

    Korona salgınında ps Plus birikmiş oyunlarıma zaman ayırma kararı aldım. Bir çok oyuna şans verip bitirip aslında o kadar da kötü değilmiş dedikten sonra sıra Mad Max'e geldi. Şu an yeni satın aldığım Metro Exodus'a başlamadım, Mad Max'i bitirmeye adadım kendimi. Çünkü BU OYUN MÜKEMMEL!!!
    Kıymeti zamanında bilinememiş, harika bir oyun. Zamanla karakterin arabası, karakterin yaşadığı kaleler, karakterin yetenekleri ve karakterin üstü başı geliştirilebiliyor. Kendinizi Mad Max ile bütünleştirdiğiniz an oyundan çıkmak istemiyorsunuz. Dip not:kesinlikle oynayın.

В целом прикольдесно6/10.     One of the greatest atmospheric games I’ve ever played. It has this amazing texture and you can feel the heat and the madness. I don’t know about those who find the games Mechanics not good enough, for me it’s so smooth and satisfying.

    Davvero un bel gioco.....le esplosioni, la guida e soprattutto i combattimenti sono il punto forte di questo gioco, e anche la storia non è male. Anche se purtroppo a lungo andare è ripetitivo lo consiglio a tutti, soprattutto a chi è amante dei giochi open world.

    A 69 from critics? SERIOUSLY? In this game you play as Max and you can literally design your own car called the Magnum Opus and you can do so many things. There are 300+ scavenging locations, so many car possibilities, so many enemy types and a very good story. Yes it has its faults but rating it a 69/100 is terrible. It is a very good game!

As Max your primary goal is to build and modify the Magnum Opus - your new set of wheels, after your famous interceptor (Black-on-Black) is taken away from you in the beginning. After getting over theThere's a lot of fun to be had with Mad Max, unfortunately when it starts to shine you will also see the cracks that prevent this being anything more than a slightly better than average game. As Max your primary goal is to build and modify the Magnum Opus - your new set of wheels, after your famous interceptor (Black-on-Black) is taken away from you in the beginning. After getting over the initial hurdle at the beginning of the abysmal car handling, and Max being easily killed you start to settle into the open-world rhythm. You'll be scouring the wasteland for scrap to improve the Magnum Opus and Max's abilities. After about 3-4 hours you'll start to feel like the formidable force Max is in the films. Car customisation is a good driving force, and the hand-to-hand combat whilst not all that deep can be very entertaining. Unfortunately every facet of the game is serviceable without being stand-out. Car handling and combat can often be frustrating to control, even in the late game. The parry timing is just off in hand-to-hand combat to the point you just start to ignore the on-screen timing hints because they are plain wrong. The wasteland environment has some stand-out locations - old ships, oil rigs, canyons (and some cool surprise locations) etc - but eventually it just becomes dull driving through different types of sand. Mad Max will give you plenty to do in its 60+ hours game time if you want to get every collectable and piece of scrap, but ultimately most people will get so far in then just stick to the story missions to get it over with.… Expand

    Not a perfect game but a lot of fun although quite repetitive, looks beautiful on ps4 pro but sometimes suffers ridiculously from frame rate issues but the good definitely outweighs the bad, unfortunately for mad max though it was overlooked that year but definitely worth a purchase.

    This f#cking game here is bs to the max. The thing that pisses me off the most. The jump button. Its more like a hop. Dude doesn't even get 1 foot off the ground. The sand storms suck too. They can last from 1 to 5 minutes. A.I. is dumb as dog $#!+. Theres nothing special about this game just a lot of repetitive things. Plus the racing is trash.

    imo the most overlooked and under rated game on the ps4 . even as a fan of the original films i myself did not pick this game up until two years after it come out and boy what a great game . films made into games are norm a let down but not this one . i wish i could wipe it from my mind and play it for the first time all over again . its so cheap to pick up now in 2021 dont miss out

Пожалуй одна из лучших игр в жанре пост-апокалипсис, если нравится такая атмосфера то сюжет покажется интересным.

    Es un juego muy disfrutable. Me gustó en el apartado jugable y los escenarios visiten mucho la acción en el carro. Lo malo del juego es que tiene una historia muy floja. Ojalá saquen segunda parte y mejoren los modelados de los personajes. En fin, lo recomiendo.

    Very surprised how addictive this game is. When I first started I thought I would be annoyed with the controls and basic npc interactions. Hours later I was still loving all the tasks and plenty of things to do. Obvious problems are there but the overall experience is very good and you will get addicted to this game!

    Mad Max used its imagery well, and as a sandbox game, it's thematically pretty coherent. I actually liked this more than GTA V: driving around is more exiting, and Batman-style fist fighting is more fun than Gears of GTA -cover shootouts. [Oct 2015]
