    Macnificent game! I can't understand what the bad reviews are for!!! Clearly its people who just don't like the idea of mad max and the desert like world! The only other reason there is pure stupidity! Thanks Warner, yet again you made a great game!

    Great post-apocalyptic setting, everything you would expect from an open world game (side quests, exploration, collectibles), all with the Mad Max style. It gives a bit more insight into the world and lore of Mad Max. A ton of fun to play... I can't wait to jump back on and explore more of this world!

    I bought MGS V and Mad Max last night, I figured I would try Mad Max for an hour before i would start Metal Gear. I still have not played metal gear a day later. This mad max game besides being beautufl graphically is so much fun, there is so much stuff to do in the game. My one little grip is that you cannot collect scrap metal by driving over it

    This game is everything that is Mad Max. It hits all the right notes with world building, sound design, art and characters. Vehicle combat is flashy and satisfying, melee is brutal and responsive. And the best thing - no feminist agenda anywhere. Just go there and have fun trashing countless bastards like Mad!

    I can only concur with what seems to be the consensus of most user reviews here: Do not let the mediocre metascore put you off this gem. Side missions might seem a little repetitive to some (which is a common problem of open-world RPGs, though) and the brawling mechanics are nothing to write home about. But the splendid mixture of intense and very well done car combat blended with RPG elements and an absolutely great Mad Max atmosphere make this game the surprise MAGNUM OPUS of the year. This game is what RAGE should have been.

    One last note on some reviews complaining about the "thin story": The story development in this game heavily relies on atmospheric story telling and action over exposition. Much like in MGSV, bigger cut scenes are mainly confined to the prologue and the the final third of the game. To me, this felt absolutely appropriate: The Mad Max series has NEVER relied on convoluted story twists or lots of dialogue to drive things forward. Conversely, it is all but about emotions, action (especially car chases) and atmosphere. This game just gets it all right. Life in the wastelands is no Disneyland. It is brutal, grinding, and desolate - and driven by the need for water, gas, and high-octane survival. This game absolute NAILS all this. In my eyes, it is an 8.5/10 as an open-world RPG, and a 10/10 as a Mad-Max-game    … Expand

    Reviewers have been overly harsh on this one. This is a solid 8-9 so should be hitting 85+ on metacritic. But as you can see the user scores are so much higher cos this really is a fun game. Great gameplay, solid graphics and loads to do. Bought this along with mgs v and although it's really good I'm having more fun with this. Give it a go it's well worth it.     I was a little scared by the reviews, but being a fan of the Mad Max movies i couldn't let the oportunity to be immersed in this universe splip away. I'm 4 hours into the game and it looks and feels amazing. It's got the movies spirit and it's definately a must buy for any true Mad Max fan out there.

    If you love Rage, Borderlands and Shadow of Mordor you will love this game for sure! Awesome game with a lot things to do. There is few things which are not done perfect like strange camera angles when you are near wall, but overall awesome and well optimized game!

    Great game, big open world with many things to do, brutal combat, smooth gameplay with nice visuals. Havent had so much fun in a game since years. Recommended.

    Most professionals treated this like a sequel in a long series of games. I don't see a number in the title, though. This is like a sister to the Saboteur and the critical reception is a near copy paste. If you enjoy beautiful open worlds, filled with activities ranging from scavenging to dismantling enemy camps to races, then this is the game for you. It's not stealthy, it doesn't have parkour. It's just flat out loud. The game aimed to make this about vehicular combat and it nailed. Nothing felt missing when I was fighting enemy cars pr using your car to take over camps. If you enjoy the Arkham series combat, vehicular combat, doing tons of open world activities akin to the Saboteur, Shadow of Mordor, Far Cry and Assassins Creed, then this is the game for you.    … Expand

As an Australian mad max lore is a part of my essence, my being, it is deeply ingrained in my psyche and my soul, so I was at first naturally apprehensive about a mad max video game as memories of Rambo the video game was still fresh in my mind. Firstly, it's set in Australia, something I've never seen in a game before and secondly a lot of the cars in the game are based on real Australian muscle cars that most people outside Australia literally have no clue about their existence or the sentimental value hardcore rev heads have attached to them, and lastly this game is fun to play and an absolute blast, it all works and it is truly a labour of love by the designers at Avalanche, bravo gentlemen. Ok that's it, I'm off to play it, so there turds at gamespot and polygon, your reviews were terrible because you were paid to make metal gear sound better to would be buyers who weren't sure which game to get, I bet they're sorry if they listened to you, have fun riding your...     This game, THIS game is like Fallout on STEROIDS. I love the post-apocalypse world, the landscape, skybox, is SOOOO beautiful and majestic. Just driving around doing missions/tasks is therapeutic. Avalanche has created a magnificent world in Mad Max. Astounding graphics! And i dont generally like driving in games but boy oh boy am I having a blast speeding across the sand dunes.

    Oh and the combat. My God is it addictive! I can feel the weight behind every meaty punch, dropkick and bodyslam that Max rains down on his enemies. It feels completely superior to Arkham Knight's floaty and easy combat. In Mad Max, momentum and direction matters if you want to pull off perfect combos. Seriously, to me, the combat never gets old and I in fact always look forward to the next combat sequence. It's THAT good!!

    Car combat is absolutely fun! It reminds me of Twisted Metal/Road Rash/Carmageddon. Like the fist combat, car combat never gets old. Every time it feels like Destruction Derby. Friggin awesome!

    The story is also interesting so far though at the time of this review, I have not finished the game. Im maybe 25-30% done but i just felt compelled to write one right away as the game is sooo good! I played like 10hrs, fell in love with the game, had the itch to rewatch Mad Max Fury Road, did that and it made the game feel even more ALIVE! As if Max came from the end of the movie right into the game as some sort of continuation. I'll be updating this review once Im done with the game but after 20+ hrs and still at the first base, I can safely say Mad Max will blow my expectations away.

I've always avoided car combat games because i find them so boring. This game was a breath of fresh air. Be sure to double tap Up D-Pad for first person view when fighting cars. Its immersive and rewarding.

    This is a very high-quality game. It's not the same compelling story as the movie Fury Road, but I think that's a good thing. Open World Mad Max is a great idea, but most importantly the driving is super fun and the physics feel solid.

    This is the best game I played on my PS4 so far. Amazing graphics, pure wasteland atmosphere, good mix of driving, fighting, upgrading etc. Story develops during the game-play as your skills. Open world with no restriction, good for exploring, levelling up in advance. I would definitely recommend this one.

    An incredible game, a sensational universe to be explored, very good, there can be repetitive missions, but certainly a very neat game with amazing graphics and customization of vehicles a touch of refinement to the game. Congratulations Avalanche Studios and Warner for this pleasant surprise. Note 1000 for this game.

    Ahh... A perfect Mad Max game, love it! And again his cars (The Interceptors) get stolen (again). But who cares? Anyway, the game was rock & solid, a truly AAA Mad Max game, where you ram (almost everyone) with your car, & beat every War Boys until their thick skull, CRACKED!

    Best Game ever! Unless you count Fallout 4 & Uncharted 4: A Thief's End

    Amazing game!! Great story, gameplay,graphics, everything.The world is huge and full of fun things to do, and everything is done with an impressive polish and atention to detail. This game balances on foot combat,looting and exploration with veicular racing and destruction in an unique and amazing way. Those critcs must be all retards.

    I haven't stopped playing this game since I started it, I'm about half way through the story and I'm loving it.

    The story is as bare bones as it gets, but it doesn't matter. There is so much to do between missions, it can get a bit overwhelming, they do get a bit repetitive but they're so damned fun. Max is a bit of a completionist's nightmare because of all the collectables and all the side quests, but again, I'm having so much fun with it I just don't care.
    Sure the AI sucks, enemies just rush you, or stand back and wait while you deal with their friends, the vehicle combat is fantastic with various ways to dispatch your opponents. The character upgrade system and vehicle building work perfectly and are suited to this type of game.
    I feel that this game really should be a 9, because of how its really just a glorified, violent fetch quest, but its pulled off perfectly.
    That and the fact that there is no redundant DLC or tacked on Multiplayer I'm going to give it top marks!    … Expand

Got a definite fallout feel to it so if you love fallout and GTA you should know they had a kid and this kid is MAD MAX.

The progression is very institutional (like AC, repeat the same objective types) and the agility of the hero on foot is abysmal.

    Surprisingly good, I'm very glad I bought this despite the mixed reviews. Feels like a bit of a grind sometimes, and has some annoying moments, but still made me fall in love the wasteland, and I enjoyed the ride with Max all the way.

    i haven't enjoyed a game this much since Dying Light. It's the kind of world I want to do everything in! I dropped playing Metal Gear Solid to play this, and at first It took a little while to get into (coming from an 80 Million dollar game to this), but once you get used to the difference in movement / controls and start unlocking things you won't be disappointed. My game of the yeari haven't enjoyed a game this much since Dying Light. It's the kind of world I want to do everything in!     I just purchased Mad Max new for $20 after selling Red Dead Redemption 2 used for $20. I enjoyed the graphical and narrative depth of RDR2, the ridiculous level of detail is insane, but I just couldn't commit the massive amounts of time required to complete the often times, very mundane objectives and gameplay. I liked it, I liked it a lot actually, but I wasn't having fun playing it. RDR2I just purchased Mad Max new for $20 after selling Red Dead Redemption 2 used for $20. RDR2 felt tedious more than it felt fun, and this was always one of my grievances with the otherwise brilliant Death Stranding. Mad Max was a game I wanted since it came out 8 years ago. That may seem like a long time ago but consider Grand Theft Auto V and Skyrim are nearly 13 years old. So I came across a rare instance of Mad Max brand new and finally decided to purchase it. Holy crap am I an idiot for not buying it sooner. This game is a masterpiece! The upgrade options are awesome as are how you earn them. I don't know what else to say, but this game truly seems amazing so far and the story is fine for what it is thus far along with some intense cut scenes. Good job Avalanche, great game engine too, lets hope Just Cause 3 can be just as good because Just Cause 2 was not my cup of tea that's for sure, but these developers do have some good talent there.     my votes a solid 9 I love this game the low critic scores are wrong the game runs without any hitch or bugs its fun the fightings solid the drivings battles are great theres loot everywhere upgrade paths lots of cars loads to do and did i mention its fun a real good time so ignore any score below 7.5 because its wrong

    after checking out the game it's to bad this game got a little above average scores on most of the review sites I still think it's because it is going to competing against MGSolid V which is a really good game. But just like this game it hold it's own. 2 great games for September next big release is NBA 2k16 baby.

    If you love the Mad Max world and seemingly endless activities to do in an open world sandbox then this game is for you. No, it is not groundbreaking or revolutionary in any way, but I love being immersed in the Mad Max world in the beautiful Wasteland. I'm writing this at work and I can't wait to get home to play some more!

    Great combat, both in and out of the car. Nice thematic setpieces throughout the environment like an abandoned airport, a dried out harbor, and etc. Decent story and really neat toolset to use inside the vehicle. Car combat is amazing btw, by far the best part of the game. Next to that though is the great customization you can do to you car to make it yours.

The wasteland and gameplay (IMO) are fantastic. The only issue I had was the lack of diversity in side missions. Also the first time I upgraded a base fully, I felt fulfilled. Then I saw they wanted me to do the same thingI LOVE this game. If you really enjoyed the films, you're going to love the game. This is achieved by the fact that all locations, and I mean ALL of them, are completely different. Basically, you never feel like you have done the sameMad Max is absolutely a great game.     This is the beauty of this game, and what makes it so enjoyable.

    The combat system is also great, but requires some getting used to. While it is a rhythm-based combat system akin to Batman games, there are clear tactics for each enemy horde on how to beat them clean, or get beaten up. Every fight also feels a bit different from the next one, even if there are only a handful of different enemies.

    Driving is marvelous, and extremely responsive. Weaponry on the cars is highly enjoyable to use as well.

    Lastly, it is Mad Max.

    It really is difficult to find anything negative to say about this game, except that I want more of it.

    I've been playing this game everyday since it came out. I play it all day, and i play it when I come home from work. This is a really fun game, and it never grows tired on me. The vast area of exploration is awesome. I'm already a level 13 Road Warrior

Sounds awesome on the tv and stereo but sounds even better on headphones and despite the beautiful music, turning it down enhances the lonely feeling of being in the desert plus you can zero in on some events youAbsolutely loving this game!     The game is a lot of fun, especially if you have just watched Fury Road. The car combat is very good and a lot of fun. Once you get hang of the time slowing mechanic and upgrade a few of the core parts of the car such as the harpoon and basic armour you will be able to chain together various moves to take out enemies in spectacular fashion.

    The hand to hand combat is suitably brutal. Each punch feels like there is some genuine weight behind it. And the variety of combat upgrades in terms of finishers makes it seem even more visceral. I have seen a few reviews state that the combat is flat and boring, yet it plays exactly the same as Batman and Shadow of Mordor, so I can't seem to get peoples conclusions on that front.

    The upgrading of both Max and the car are pretty wide. Most of the upgrades to Max are linear though, meaning it is just there to increase his armour states with various jackets, or his melee power with different knuckleduster gloves. The car upgrades are of a similar vain, with them progressing up the ladder of move armour, better weapons or faster engines, but you can make some genuinely individual looking monster to prowl the wasteland in.

    On the PS4 the game looks gorgeous. From the sun-bleached desert to the explosions and debris sent flying after you slam in to an enemy vehicle, the game looks stunning. I have not noticed a single bit of pop up that others have mentioned in previous reviews. All the animations are fluid as well, from Max simply getting out the Magnum Opus to hand to hand combat, it all seems to flow seamlessly from one to the other.

    All in all I love this game. I have spent 15 hours so far in the Wasteland and I have only just fortified my first stronghold, compared to Gamespot who said they had completed the game in this time. I am still a way away from completing to storyline and I am looking forward to sinking many more hours in to this to get it completed.

    In my eyes, if you enjoyed the movies and enjoyed Shadow of Mordor, then I am sure you will enjoy this game as well.    … Expand

    A great sandbox with much to do. I bought this because I did not like Metal Gear, simply because I am not a fan of the gameplay. AND I MUST SAY the carnage in this game is over the top. It was beyond fun. 10/10

    Just play it. There, in wasteland, you´ll find all the fun that a car chase needs. Don´t be bothered by such "Iknoweverything" reviewers. Combat system is solid. Missons do their job nicely. There´s nothing like beat a car in a highspeed dusty highway.

    Harcore action of Mad Max world. Fighting & driving systems, are awesome as f***. I think it's best racing game since long time. The way to make a сutscene and directing suggest that Miller himself was involved in the creation or advised minimmum. It is very a quality product. I was expecting less.

Driving through an open wasteland might sound boring, but theres a ton of things to do such as pulling down scarecrows, infiltrating camps, finding scrap and history relics in at least 100 scavenging locations and reading bios about every character, enemy, and location. The customization in this game isn't infinite, but its very good and uprading Max's jacket, shotgun, wrist armor, and more is very rewarding and enjoyable, and purchasing skills to upgrade Max's fighting skills makes the brutal melee combat even better. The Magnum Opus car is very fun and exciting to upgrade, such as weaponry, rims, armor, engines and more. The graphics are truly next-gen as different rocks and boulders break and fly aroound as you crash into them. The wasteland is truly dynamic and doesn't feel blank or bare in any way. The story wasnt the best but it was pretty good and resembles the Mad Max universe very well. It is one of the only games i ever played that had an enjoyable ending and unlocking special items to use after you have completed the story. There are also different Strongholds where Max can return and add vehicles to his garage, do Wasteland missions for the Stronghold leader, and upgrading the Stronghold is very rewarding. Finding Project Parts and building Oil Pumps to refill Max's vehicles, Maggot farms, Survey crews, and much more. Each Stronghold can upgrade as in donating scrap, and building projects will change the stronghold, such as adding new houses and decorations and more people, making it look way better than what it started with. Max can't do parkour, but he can climb ladders, certain ledges, shimmy trough small gaps, and jump a few inches in the air. This game has THE best camera editor ever.     Sure it's a Single player game but when it's made by Avalanche Studios, it's going to be a blast. My expectations were confirmed when I received this game. The satisfaction of the brutal on foot and vehicle combat takes me back to the good old days of burnout, but in a more mature fashion. Shooting the fuel tank with a shotgun or pulling off brutal takedowns on foot in fury mode is soSure it's a Single player game but when it's made by Avalanche Studios, it's going to be a blast.     Graphics: Just gorgeous. I would have bought ps4 version, but I got a discount for the PC version. PS4 version looks almost as good.

    What I did not like: Nothing so far.

    This game is must have. To me personally it looks so much better than Fallout 4. Fallout is a sore topic for me so I won’t get into it.

    UPDATE #1: Read all the BIOS to enjoy the story.

    One thing that I would like to see in this game is Stealth System, MAD MAX need stealth system.

    Also, 'I would love to see people in the freed outpost notice you, cheer. It just looks like Max is nonexistent.    … Expand

    Great game for the fans of Mad Max, very enjoyable. I have been playing for over sixteen and a half hours now, and am satisfied as someone who knows the game's universe since waaaay back, in the old days.
    Great car physics, speeding up and slowing down, the wasteland atmosphere is also there! Great job, Avalanche Studio.

    I lost my 24+ hour save by mistake and had to start all over. That didn't put a damper on the entertainment as Mad Max is a game that deserves to be replayed. Just finding out about the world through historic relics is awesome. What happened to this world? Why did the ocean retreat?     If you have played Just Cause 2 you might notice the gameplay similarities in both mechanics and amounts of fun you get out of the game.

    The Magnum opus is fully customizable and the story it's very well integrated with the game. The polishing of the title it's incredible, like the various camera effects, the    Amazing game.     Playing it now thanks to PS plus. Great game, i got hooked with it from the beginning. There is some grind to do to max you car and character but it´s pretty fun to complete all the activities the game offers.

Being an Aussie I'm glad they used an Australian actor for Max's voice. Loved levelling up max and making his car as badass as possible.     What I enjoyed the most about this game, is how well developers have put on the effort to recreate and build on the Mad Max scenario and lore. Take a couple of minutes and Look around, the wind blowing, the vastness of the desert, the jerks and perks of the characters. Notice how Just everything went mad. There is cannibalism, people eating worms, a godlike culture of endless warfare and the struggle of all against all. When you find the relics, put the pieces together and notice how much they built on the original movies, adding more to the lore. And also, there are the missions and combat. It is repetitive to a point, yet no mission is the same, scenario wise. The learning curve is great because If you want the game to be easier, do all the side missions first; you will get better equipment and upgrades and the game will flow. If you want a challenge, focus on the main mission and you will find yourself constantly dying due to a beating, hacked by an axe, due to hunger or thirst, or run over by a car driven by hostiles. Finally, combat options are many, since the player may fight while on foot or while driving, using punches, guns, harpoons, flamethrowers, among others. If you like Mad Max, and is willing to explore more of its characters and lore, I recommend this game.    … Expand

    This game was cruelly underrated on release and deserves to be played, yes it borrows off other games but it so much fun you soon ignore its failings , please ignore the poor scores on here and search out a copy , and here's hoping to a sequel.

    Awesome game! I could not stop playing until I got the platinum trophy (the first one on PS4!). I can recommend it to anyone. Play it, if you still had not a chance till 2017! :)

Strongholds are great too because you also build additions to them that help you in the game and you’ll see the work you put in strongholds as well. It’s definitly my kind of game. I was expecting it to be much worse because of the reviews, now I keep trying to get all of my friends who haven’t played it yet to give it a try. The friends who have played it have been telling me it was a good game all along I just didn’t believe them until I tried it.… Expand

    I ranked this game 10 because I think this title deserves more credit. It has a good open world atmosphere. You can see a devastating sand storm coming your way and then you have to run for your life and take shelter. It has a very nice graphics, fair story, nice combat system, and very fun car combat.

    Hra je za mě překvapením roku. Perfektní vizual, se zabavnou hratelností dělá z Mad Maxe jednu z nejlepších Open World PostApo her. Super jízdní model vozidel, a jejich destrukce s výbuchy jsou vážně impozantní. Avalanche studios se vážně předvedli, a ukazali že to umí, pokud mají dostatek peněz a času na hru.

    Mad Max used its imagery well, and as a sandbox game, it's thematically pretty coherent. I actually liked this more than GTA V: driving around is more exiting, and Batman-style fist fighting is more fun than Gears of GTA -cover shootouts. [Oct 2015]
