This re release was made for consoles the PC game all ways looked good because games scale with PC hardware, so you wont see much difference. On PS3 and 360 this game was 720p at 30FPS, you can now play it at true 4K 60 fps on the 1X and 1440p 60FPS on PS4 pro and 1080P 60 FPS on base consoles, this is a massive upgrade, IF you cant understand those number than you wont understand just how amazing they are.
Yes the art and assets are the same, thankfully because the character models in the original game are more attractive than the character models in modern games made today, thanks to political pandering. Yes the animation looks dated but this isnt a full priced release and re animating 1000s of characters would have made the project way to costly to risk.
Its meant as a performance upgrade so modern console gamers can experience this amazing game. After the cry baby reception that the game has received for not completely over hauling everything, and them not spending 500 m on this risky project dont expect many more of histories hidden gems to be brought to the new platforms. Its just to much of a risk with today's entitled modern You Tuber community and their hungry for out rage audience.

My initial review for the original was a 10 out of 10, but since this has clearly aged graphically mechanically, I have to lower it for the remaster if you want to call it a remaster and not just a re-release, which is pretty much what it is. But I can't stress enough that this is still an extremely fun game that I hope everyone picks up, especially if you haven't played it in the past. The negative reviews that you see are usually from people who rated only as a remaster, but don't elaborate on how great the game actually is. Great story, combat and music combined make this a solid game in and of itself.

In terms of gameplay in combat, this pretty much has even most modern-day RPGs beat. It's extremely fun and arcade-like and being able to pick and choose and even mix classes together very seamlessly make this a pretty great experience.

Back in 2012 when this was first released, I felt that this was one of the best RPGs released, in my opinion of the game is still the same today. I really hope that this re-release is successful and that we get a sequel. The great news is that there is a new DLC coming out next year, which most reviewers failed to mention also.

PC gamers have said they can’t see much of a difference, however, having replayed some of the original on Xbox 360 recently, I can say that the PS4 Pro version is very much a step up. The graphics have been given a HD lift, resulting in sharper detail and more vibrant colours. KoA has never looked so amazingly pretty on consoles. The new version has also tweaked and balanced game play, including much needed improvement to the loot and area level system. All the released DLC is included (including the Mass Effect inspired ‘Shepard’s Armour’). The game is still awesome and fun to play. The combat is excellent, the content immense, the visuals have a colour-rich vibe, and the fabulous score by Grant Kirkhope is big, bold and suitably high fantasy epic. Expand

It's a remaster. The same thing that was done here was done with darksiders 1 & 2. People need to realize that remasters will only look slightly as better as its original. The game is great as of now as it was back in 2012. With an expansion coming in 2021, fans of the game have something to look forward to.

Fast-forward almost ten years later and, thanks to THQ Nordic prying the IP from the filthy clutches of EA, we have Kingdoms of Amalur Re-Reckoning. A title which when I first heard it I was thrown off by, but now having played the game I feel it suits it far more than was actually intended.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning, whilst still a blast to play, offers little more than the original. THQ claim that the game now runs at a higher resolution and with more detailed textures. I can’t speak for the console versions of the game however I struggled to notice a difference when playing on PC. Both looked nearly identical, aside from some colour correction, and offered the same high and ultra-wide display options. Perhaps this is why the game is being offered at a discount of 50-60% off for the first few weeks of release.

Aside from this Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning is the same game that 38 Studios released in 2012. It’s bright, colourful, charming, funny and definitely worth a play if you haven’t already. Even at the current discounted rate though I can’t recommend purchasing Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning on PC if you own the original. It may be worth picking up in a future Steam Sale at 75-80% off, but until then the original will surely suffice.

Great game. To be honest, I slept on the original every time I went to gamestop and now I know why it is a hidden gem and beloved by its fans. It's fun with basic combat and a great story. Played it on launch and had no problems with bugs, crashes, framerates, etc. likes others claim to have had. Overall, I'm glad I decided to give this game a shot.

Anyone who has not had the pleasure of encountering THQ Nordic's current intellectual property on their path is strongly advised to purchase it without reserve.
I spent about thirty hours in the game, but at the time it took me more than a hundred to finish the game on PC: it is certainly a long-lived title that allows you to have fun for a long time.

I am very happy to replay this game with some ameliorations, it is fluid and I enjoy to replay the game. I don't put 10/10 because the loading times are sometimes long and there are some graphical bugs, especially with some loot containers. And 40€ is a little too expensive, even if there is the two DLC.

THQ should have wait till the game was finished to let that game out. Currently It's a cash grab. Played 29hours, get hit by dissapearing bug, Cynric Carrier crash bug, Adessa Armory bug just to name those few. Look that up. When they will patch it, it's gonna be playable. As now i'm trapped. I think the people who gave this really bad reviews were expecting a reMAKE, which is a completely rebuilt game. This is a reMASTER, so you have to judge it on that standard. It's the original game running better on new hardware, with some quality of life tweaks added. Let's review what they've done with this game:

-1440p 60 fps instead of 720p 30 fps -inventory space doubled

This 'remaster' seems pretty good to me but I also did not play the original so I can't compare. The graphics are indeed a bit dated but they still look good and the game plays really well. I play all the RPG's - the MMO's you name it - and I have to say the combat in this game is it's shining star - it's crown jewel - in fact the combat in this game is so good it might be some of the best I have played in any open world RPG like this. The world looks really cool and has this half-fable half-warcraft feel to it - great colors and ideas and overall it's just really well done. The lore is in my opinion a bit overwhelming. Every single sentence from every single NPC is loaded with names and history and lore and as a person who truly loves that stuff in these games I gotta admit it all got lost in the overwhelming mix. Where other games kinda slowly introduce you the lore and allow you to discover it - Amalur grabs you by the ankles and dips you head first into a rushing river of fantasy names and concepts and lets you sort it out later. I kind of just got used to the idea that I have no idea what or who anyone is talking about and just wanted to know who's ass I need to go kick and where they are. Final words - this game is huge , it's got lots to do and it plays really well. If this game had a 2020 look to it it would be one of the best RPG's out today. I really really hope that the devs on the next Elder Scrolls game takes note of how awesome the combat is in this game and how well it works for an open world RPG like this. Expand

A great remaster of the best “single-player MMORPG” ever. The original seemed to have everything it needed to shine, but some external factors (poor marketing, the closure of 38 Studios) robbed it of success. I’m happy to inform that the remastering was done expertly and this charming, fun, unpretentious game resembling Fable is still worth both its price and all the hours needed to complete it. I’m really happy I got this chance to revisit Amalur, and I want to believe that Re-Reckoning foreshadows the revival of the franchise that died prematurely years ago. [11/2020, p.48]

If you’ve never played this game before, or if you want to dive back into it but don’t have access to an older copy, Re-Reckoning is easy to recommend- but only because the game itself is as good as it is. If you were hoping for an impressive visual upgrade, this isn’t it, and those who already have access to a copy of the original game should probably save their money.
