Although a fairly decent game, this didn’t amount to much of a remake. It is essentially a port of the old game brought to newer consoles.

This is a freaking disgrace of a remaster, or even a re-release. The game is utterly broken. How? HOW did THQ screw this up SO BAD? The game is 8 years old. I LOVED the original. I can't, in good conscious, recommend this to anyone. It's unplayable for so many people. Just look at the reddit thread for bug reports. This really sucks, because I was hoping this will sell well enough to warrant a sequel. But in it's current state, anyone playing this for the first time will likely hate the game and lose all faith in future installments. I would not buy a sequel created by the same developer. This is disgusting. Expand

They really didn't do much in this port. If you have the "old" version you're not missing out.

Kingdom's of Amular re-reckoning is completely unacceptable, the "improvements" that have been implemented could have been done by single person in under a week and they believe this warrants a full price release (69.95 Aus)?, disgusting. The complete lack of respect for the people who originally developed this game, the customers and their money is appalling, you should be ashamed ofKingdom's of Amular re-reckoning is completely unacceptable, the "improvements" that have been implemented could have been done by single person in under a week and they believe this warrants a full price release (69.95 Aus)?, disgusting. The game is great though, if you never played it before i do suggest picking it up, as someone who already owns the game I feel disrespected and I can't give this shotty re-release a decent score in good conscience.

Game completely broken at launch and missing all of the advertised new features.

Patch finally comes 2 days later but will not apply the changes to an existing save.

First of all, disregard the apologists yelling "This is a remaster, not a remake." We all KNOW it's a remaster. The problem is, this barely qualifies as a remaster, if at all.

I absolutely LOVED this game when it was released. It stands as one of my favorite games of all time. When I heard it was being remastered, I was overjoyed - but that was short lived. The first red flag was THQ's reluctance to show any gameplay until days before release. The second red flag was two mistakes in their released gameplay that the company had to apologize for. The third red flag was the comically bad pre-order "Statuette" that looked nothing like its packaging (including the basic color of the character).

All of this pointed to a half-*ssed, low quality re-release - which was all but confirmed by looking at gameplay videos: The graphics are the same as the original. All they did was upscale it and crank the contrast to 11. There is literally no discernible difference between the PC version from 2012 and the PS4 version from 2020. And don't tell me that's an unfair comparison - the versions are EIGHT YEARS APART. A remaster with (as THQ said) "newly polished gameplay" should look better that a version that existed 8 years ago on ANY platform..

On release day, the game was riddled with bugs, including a documented game-breaking one. Furthermore, xbox players (more than one third of the gaming community) couldn't play the game because the day one patch became a day 3 patch. Even so, the game is still a buggy mess with unacceptable load times for a so-called remaster of a game that ran on hardware from 2012.

All of this would be forgiven if THQ simply called it a port and charged $19 for it. Instead, they had the gall to promote it as a remaster and charge $40 (!) - $54 for the collector's edition with the as-unyet-seen dlc that's purported to be released "sometime next year.". lol

The original game is a blast and one of the best RPGs ever made, IMO. But charging $40 for a bug-riddled, load-time heavy upscaled port that 1/3 of gamers couldn't even play on release is a crime. Contrast this to the recent Saints Row 3 remaster - a game that ALSO used an open world and non-photorealistic graphics - and this is an embarrassment.

if you feel comfortable spending $40 for a port, fine. I'd advise people to wait until it drops in 1-2 months to a more appropriate price. Spending full price on this only serves to enable software companies to take advantage of gamers for a quick buck. Don't be that guy/gal.

    Not warranted a re-release.

Remaster of an 8-year-old game that hardly brings any new features. New dlc will be added which comes in 2021, dlc of a then 9-year-old game. Of which no content is known other than its title. Remaster of an 8-year-old game that hardly brings any new features.
New dlc will be added which comes in 2021, dlc of a then 9-year-old game. Of which no content is known other than its title. So no one knows what they are giving them money for. But it has been announced. To have a reason to create another version above standard for more money. The true incentive. Because, you know, 55 for a 2012 released, decent game with unspecified dlc and some minor tweaks is normal yes? Could've (and should've) included that in the already overpriced standard edition, but that would be a missed opportunity for these leeches.

The game itself was decent back in 2012, although a bit soulless. This because the game world felt like it was supposed to be an mmo first, with it being vast, empty, and flat. Also many fetch quests.
It definitely feels old now, especially for newcomers unfamiliar with the title. Hardcore fans will however be able to look past this.
Combat felt pretty good, and still is decent now.
This bad excuse of a "remaster" however, being full priced, with multiple editions that are even more expensive, is only attractive for the hardcore fans of the old, mostly same game. New players would be better off waiting for a sale, and/or til real dlc contents have been revealed. I do not expect much of this dlc, other than to attract buyers and having a reason to make another edition for more money. They should've just added this to the standard, already full priced game, but they did not. Missed opportunity there. The standard pricing would already have been high enough to include this dlc.

At 30 or so this game + dlc would perhaps be a better starting price. But 55 minimum (depending om region) for an 8 year, when dlc is released 9 year old game? Dlc of which no specifics have been given?
Only the most hardcore fans that want to play through the same of a slightly improved game again, should find this worth a buy. Newcomers and less hardcore fans would be better off waiting for a good sale, which will come way before dlc is even released.
Right now, with pricing at moment of writing and unspecified dlc, for a last gen game that has clearly aged a good deal, this is a cashgrab. Half off is a worthy price.

This game is so broken it's unplayable... Less than 10 minutes in the game and already one of the first secondary quest is bugged and I am unable to finish it.... 5 hours in the game and my screen begin to suffer from tremors!
I uninstall then re-install the game and now, the game stay on the loading screen FOREVER.

I am reviewing this game as just a “remaster” not a separated game.

The work done remastering this game is minimal. I know that a remastered game should maintain the original game look and feel, but the lack of improvements that were needed is disheartening. The performance impact compared to the original game is significant for the minimal amount of changes in lighting, texturing

Overall a disappointing job done by the studio responsible for bringing this hidden gem back into mainstream attention.

I‘m pretty sure the most of the 8+ reviews belongs to the original game which was awesome back in days. The remaster itself is just a joke. You won‘t get a last gen PS4 game, instead you will get a PS3 game with higher resolution, which is pointless along such low texture quality. It is just the original game with some minor patches which was bundled as standalone for the full price.I‘m pretty sure the most of the 8+ reviews belongs to the original game which was awesome back in days. For nostalgia only. For new players all the positive and interesting features are met with "that's it?" after a couple hours in. Interesting concept, bland execution. Leave it back in 2012.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Basically a worse version of skyrim in every way and it came out a year after skyrim. Very repetitive and the story was bad. Moments that were meant to be epic were dumb (like sallying out of a siege with zero tactics and no shields or archers against trolls). Tons of fetch quests and as a mage I could one shot any enemy the entire game and 2 shot bosses (including the final). Expand

A great remaster of the best “single-player MMORPG” ever. The original seemed to have everything it needed to shine, but some external factors (poor marketing, the closure of 38 Studios) robbed it of success. I’m happy to inform that the remastering was done expertly and this charming, fun, unpretentious game resembling Fable is still worth both its price and all the hours needed to complete it. I’m really happy I got this chance to revisit Amalur, and I want to believe that Re-Reckoning foreshadows the revival of the franchise that died prematurely years ago. [11/2020, p.48]

Reasons for playing, then? Nostalgia. Appeasing all those ‘best RPGs you’ve never played’ listicles. And as a reminder of why character– new ideas and memorable places – is so important to a grand adventure. [Issue#181, p.86]

If you’ve never played this game before, or if you want to dive back into it but don’t have access to an older copy, Re-Reckoning is easy to recommend- but only because the game itself is as good as it is. If you were hoping for an impressive visual upgrade, this isn’t it, and those who already have access to a copy of the original game should probably save their money.
