Overall boring game. Long and drawn out cutscenes, The characters feel like they are dead inside. The gameplay kept me playing, that's it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Unfortunately, this is not the game I've been all waiting for. It's still Kingdom Hearts, but there are many things that make it less than what I expected.

First of all, the gameplay feels dated. It's very similar to Kingdom Hears 2, but KH2 was released in 2005, and games have changed since then. A lot.
Secondly, the pacing is dreadful. The game plays very slow (though it's rather short at 30-35 hours), and truth be told nothing worthwhile happens for the first number of hours. As Sora we visit some worlds, but it feels pointless. The visits don't seem connected to the main plot apart from the fact the Organization wants to gather 7 princesses of light to counterbalance the 13 darknesses and... that's it. Going through each level is mostly tedious. In the meantime there's a bunch of cinematics that bring nothing new to the table in terms of plot.
Thirdly, the combat system is both dreadfully dated and incredibly easy. I feel like the game plays itself. I had absolutely no trouble with any fight, and I'm really bad with the controller.
Last but not least, the fact that I coudn't save the game whenever I wanted to triggered me a little. Why? Because the periods between the save points can be really long. At one point I wanted to stop playing, but I had to watch a cinematic, then there was an action scene, then there was another cinematic, and then another action scene - with no save points. I mean, WTF?! I had to spend another half-an-hour with the game before I arrived at a save point. Come on, that's just lazy development.

All the above-mentioned issues make KH3 a disappointment for me. I've waited so long for this, and what we received is sub-par - a nostalgia trip wrapped in a pretty candy wrapper, but with a sour inside.

Wow, has it ever been a long time coming for the mainline entry of the series to finally grace the fans with its presence. True, we've all had a fair few supplementary games in between (some good, some not as good), but seldom did they scratch that Kingdom Hearts itch that's been present since the end of the official second entry, when players all around the world reached the ending cinematic, treated to a gorgeous CG cutscene with "Sanctuary" (Passion, if you're a Japanese player) by Utada playing as the ending/credits song. A long enough time that a fair bit has happened in-universe to the KH series and in the gaming industry. A long enough time that the game had swapped engines and console generations (even added a new console under the series banner) to accommodate for the time circumstances and climate (among other things).

And, so, how did it fair?

Gameplay: Maybe with a few exceptions here and there, the gameplay itself is probably the best the series has ever been. Elements from every major game in the series plays a definite part in the game. Combat and exploration is fast, fluid varied, and exciting with KH2's gold standard basic combat meshing together with some of the unique features that BBS and DDD brought to the table. Secret/collectable hunting is fun and expansive with the huge worlds, high level of detail, and the sheer verticality adding a layer of depth that previous games (even DDD) just didn't have. Side gameplay bits, such as the Classic Kingdom minigames, 100 Acre Wood puzzle challenges, and the sidequests that you can partake in for a few bonus rewards also add a bit of breathing room to help players take a break from their adventures through the Disney universe. The Gummi Ship makes a full-force return, now with perhaps the most robust and balanced out experience you could ever get out of the system, taking elements from KH1 and 2, while also taking some Ps and Qs from it's own main game and making it a bit more open and exploration focused. With all of that said, combat did seem a bit over powered (especially with the Attraction Flow attacks), which made even more glaring considering the highest difficulty setting available (Proud Mode) is perhaps the easiest it's been. The Worlds, while expansive and lengthy, still felt like there were a few worlds missing, with one of the fan favorites that managed to make a return (Twilight Town) being cut in half significantly (made more obvious by the seemingly abandoned storyline said world had). The minigames are a good distraction, but a tad on the monotonous side, and the side quests available are few and far between. Finally, while the Gummi System is the best it's ever been, it is a little slower and less exciting than what was done in KH2.

Story: Let me just get this out of the way. To newcomers, the majority of the plot is almost impenetrable, and can only be deciphered by said newcomers that either utilize a Wiki and pay as close attention as possible, or take it upon themselves to play through the majority of the previous games (if you have a PS4, getting the "Story Thus Far" collection would be a good idea...). It is NOT recommended that, if you ARE a newcomer, you make this game your first in the series. Why do I say this? It has MGS4 Syndrome. Kingdom Hearts is a long series with a complicated story, and this game was made to finish the "Seeker of Darkness Saga", going to great lengths to tie up loose ends on that front. It will have A LOT of exposition and reminders to fans. A fan of the series on the regular will be required to pay attention at a bare minimum just to understand (just like MGS4). With this said, as a fan, I thought the ending, barring a few questions, was satisfying to me, with the final encounter being excellently executed.

Visuals: Considering what kind of set up I've had while playing, the game still looked absolutely beautiful, and still ran at a near solid 60fps. It was smooth to play and smooth to watch. The fact that just about everything was voice acted was a big bonus, and the "flat cardboard" faces that showed up in previous games for certain cutscenes/moments are nowhere to be seen is even more impressive. To say this would look great on a PS4 PRO and a proper HD TV would then be the most understated understatments...

Final: Barring a few issues (the feeling of the lack of worlds, overpowered Attraction Attacks, extremely convoluted story that didn't answer EVERY question, and somewhat monotonous minigames) this is probably one of the better ways to end the saga. While I WISH there was more in the game, what I got was a extremely satisfying dance across the universe with Sora the Heartfelt Dunce, Goofy the Observant, and Donald the Uselessly Overpowered, with the return of a lovable side-cast and rogues gallery.

And it most definitely was. As a fan of this series 17 years, and a fan dedicated enough to play a decade's worth of side games just to learn any bits of story the creator could possibly have to tell me... I feel the payoff so strongly. I cried so many times, usually with a big stupid grin on my face. Some scenes literally took my breath away and left me speechless, and others I outright applauded just after seeing them. This is one of those moments in life I feel, "Thank God I'm alive in a time where ___". The blank here, is Kingdom Hearts III.

Aside from a fantastic conclusion to the Xehanort Saga, the graphics were amazing and compelling. The gameplay was out of this world with a fantastic collection of everything the series has built thus far all in one package. And the soundtrack was easily their best yet, with both a lot of original music I loved and beautiful redos of some of my favorite tracks. I have no complaints in the slightest, save maybe that Pooh's world could have had more interesting mini games, but they made up for that with several other mini games throughout the worlds so I'll let that pass. I am content now and will be for a long time much like I was with II, and when IV is finally announced, I look forward to speculating what a brand new story could be!

The combat has very solid base, but not so solid balancing. I get it that the main complaint toward this game relates to the story pacing, but tbh with Nomura saying he decided to keep the story as simple as possible I couldn't think of other way to progress the story other what this game has done. Some fans might find it disappointing, but often what's best for the game might not necessarily what fans think is the best for the game and I think KH3 fits this definition. There are three pillars that kingdom hearts has stood on, story combat and music. All three of core tenants don't come anywhere near the previous titles. Of these three the first one you notice being lacking is the music. The opening theme that sets the tone and the anticipation for the journey your about to go on is disjointed and sounds terrible. There is no soul or passion from it, Utada's stellar vocals are there but they are dragged down by the awful techno music accompanying them. This music does not inspire you and get you desperate to step into this world, it's annoying and you just want it to end. On it's own this theme is heart breaking when compared to the previous opening themes that were some of the greatest songs to grace video games; theirs a reason why kingdom hearts has an orchestra that performs its music. The other background music is not good none of it is memorable; why is frozen the only world that has musical numbers in it? It was weird and subtracted from the enjoyment of the world not add to it. There is still no background music during most cut scenes, it's weirdly quiet.
Combat is dumber than any of the previous entries in the series by far. Even on proud mode there is no challenge at any point. The previous games in the series were all difficult and challenging in the best way possible. The camera is moved much farther back to try and show the increased scale of the levels but it destroys the close, personal, tight feeling of the combat. You can no longer make out individual characteristics of the different heartless they all look about the same because they're so far away. With that you can't really see any choreographed moves to let you know when an attack is coming from the smaller enemies. Just because there are disney characters in this game doesn't mean its solely for children. The attractions are overpowered get out of jail free cards that go on far to long and don't fit with the gameplay. I would suggest never using them if you can do it. The key blade forms are cool at first but don't hold a candle to the forms of KH2. They reduce your options and remove your ability to guard in most cases, this screams how they don't want it to be about strategy at all. It's all about it being easy and looking cool unearned. You could level up your forms in KH2 which made it addicting to use them as much as possible to make base sora even more powerful, now everything is handed to you. It was possible to miss final form entirely in KH3, now the developers make sure you'll never miss anything. A perfect example of what was and how much worse the combat is now is the rush of heartless battles. Both KH3 and KH2 have them, but KH3 doesn't want you to worry about it or stress over it, it's all for fun and to look cool. There isn't a counter of the impressive amount of heartless that you have to kill in the battle just a health bar of constantly spawning small groups of heartless while your surrounded by cosmetic heartless for the illusion of this being more. You don't even have to kill them on your own the developers don't want you to be overwhelmed and give you an attraction that is a free end this fight button. There is no more strategy in the combat, no more grind, or fun. You smash X until all the bad guys disappear. The game gives you an endless amount of cure usage if you want it, there is a skill that let's you use cure when your mana is recovering. It's worth 0 EXP so it's obviously optional but that's what the difficulty you had the players chose at the beginning is for. I don't want to set a game on the hardest difficulty and see that it's not suppose to be a challenge and if it's too hard you can turn on easy mode at any time.
The story is also a disappointment, this is spoiler free so don't worry. It tries to bring everything together from the previous entries and it should be commended for that, but it does it horribly in a rushed fashion. Every lingering plot that was made to be a big deal is solved quickly and easily with no lasting impact on anything. Riku's arc over multiple games is no longer special or cool because everyone comes out of the darkness unscathed, why did you have such a problem at all Riku, everyone else was fine with minimum help and time. For a lot of questions answered there are more brought up about how exactly everything is working out, nothing new that happens is ever really explained. The big villains from the previous games no longer feel intimidating. The final fantasy characters have been removed completely and they were needed to balance out the disney happiness and love filled plot that gets a bit much at times. Now there's no Cloud to bring a little darkness to these happy disney worlds which was the original appeal of the games.
Any fan of the series should go into this game expecting disappointment from every direction, that way the letdown won't affect you to much.

I had a great deal of fun... for returners to the franchise it will be easy and everyone will slice through proud mode like a hot knife through butter cos.... attractions lol, but it is fun and the magic has been fixed so well it's broken there wasn't a single spell that I thought this time around... was a useless niche... mobility was finally balanced (yes i am looking at you dream drop distance) all around... solid game just missing a harder difficulty which I have faith will eventually come (critical mode was always a final mix thing and that is what made kh2 final mix the greatest of the franchise.... im sure they will deliver or come close eventually in the form of a DLC)

as for story... oh boy... it provided... it tied up loose ends and added new ones that mixed with some that were left untied.... pacing was a huge issue tho... there is a huge reason why most stories have this 3 act structure to them.... KH3... kinda just had 2... you kinda happy go lucky aimlessly do stuff in act 1... and then the HUGE super rush colossal mess that is act 2 the final act... no middle ground no build up a bit off wasted potential... the story is good... I liked it just.... needed a bit of spreading... which is a shame.

overall though a fun game cute moments and truly a beloved franchise... I played the first one as a kid and I still love this franchise to bits... but i admit story is crazy and requires time investment to understand... i mean just go look for an explanation or synopsis on youtube... shortest legitimate one is probably over an hour long

Ex. My favs are San Fransokyo and The Caribbeans

The graphics with Unreal engine continues to deliver here and even improves 0.2 Birth by Sleep further
The models for every character looks soo good; Kingdom Hearts have never been better!

Gameplay wise, it is the best in the series. It retains Kingdom Hearts 2 and Dream drop distance (not INSANE amount of free flow) combat with new moves like form changes and attractions.
The keyblades are soo vastly different from each other and such a blast to play!

Attractions hurt the flow of the game play for my experience. Though they are useful at times when there are a group of enemies

Summons are back and I loved it. I miss some of the Disney characters
I wish they had more of a role here xD

The music is really good too; Yoko and her team delivers again
There are lots of remixes and I enjoyed most of them
Some of favs are definitely towards the end of the game

I said a lot of positive things but whats the negative?

Well the story pacing is kinda off
It's definitely better than past games but I feel like for the conclusion of a saga
I was expecting the KH story to be more present and more build up before the end
Ex. I wanted to see Kairi and Axel's training etc

Instead the game really went all out at the final act of the game which is awesome!
But I wished some of the KH story is more relevant and evenly spread out in the earlier parts

I praised a lot for the final act but I was also expecting a bit more from it like the final showdown could have gone better
And the postgame is weak compared to past games
    hence a 9/10

KH has never been like a 9/10 or 10/10 to me
It has never quite reach the heights of my fav games

BUT this is the first game in the series
I was hooked from start to finish
In the past they re used worlds and I did get bored from some worlds due to the old design where you have to load every section of a new world

This is a fresh of new air for myself
Hell even the gummi sections are the best in the series
The gameplay has never been better!
This journey with Sora, Donald and Goofy has been a blast

This is my fav game of the series!
And I hope FF plays more of a huge role next time! Possibly more DLC story Nomura?

The game play was fun, but overly convoluted. I would have liked a tighter combat system. it was almost impossible to perform any sort of block move against the heartless when there was so many on the screen. The bosses at the end of the game should have been spread out throughout the game with a final conclusion at the end, but manly of the worlds leave you to usually fight a large heartless as the boss. After it got exhausting and unexciting. Returning characters seems like huge plot hole. but its more like the director just decided i want all these characters back so their back with some dumb reasoning behind it to justify their return. While i guess they did resolve Xehanort's story-line; i was left with more questions than answers at the games conclusion. It just simply wasn't a satisfying end to a game I've waited so long for. This is not a game targeted toward people who only have played KH1 and KH2. This is a game that is more targeted toward big fans who have played the other titles that are considered as spinoff.

The story definitely has a lot going for it, maybe a bit too much. The lore of the series is deeper than general people could've imagined. But if you are the type of people who likes intriguing story which will make you curious of what happen next, the story of KH3 and KH series in general does exactly that. The story might be confusing but confusing story does not necessarily translate into bad story. There is so much details that easy to miss, therefore sometimes people brush it off as convoluted, but its is not. If you look closer attention to the interactions, conversations, etc in the previous games, you can definitely see that the story is well-constructed and the development of the story has been hinted for a long time. As long as it makes sense, personally I don't really mind confusing story. Many people complained about how the pacing in this game is the worst in the series, but imo the pacing although definitely can be improved, it is perfectly fine considering the goal of the story they are trying to achieve. I couldn't really see them doing the story other than what has been presented because I feel the narrative doesn't have that much leeway for Nomura and the gang to do what has been done in previous entries. KH3 is meant to be the conclusion of a saga that has been built through years and it succeed in doing that. It might not the way some fans wanted it to be, but it is still a satisfactory story imo.

The voice acting in this game is pretty good. The lines can be a bit childish and cringy, but that's how Kingdom Hearts has been and should be. I often found myself smiling throughout the game because I just love the characters' interaction and lines.

The worlds are just beautiful and the worlds they have chosen into this game are great. Every worlds have different type of environments, each have different gimmicks and the world design is a step up from KH2. Although there were less number of worlds than KH2, the worlds feels so much bigger. It might feel a bit empty due to this increase in size, but overall I'm happy with the world design and the effort put into each world.

The characters are what makes KH so special for me and fortunately the character in KH3 still retain its charm. Each character has some role to play with each has different motivation. Although some characters lacks spotlight, but it is understandable since KH3 trying to include a huge amount of cast into the story and it can't be helped that some sacrifices toward the character's screen time has to be made. I especially love the Trinity Trio in KH3, their interaction is so fun to watch and at its best compared to previous games.

Music is spot-on. The timing was perfect and it succeed in creating atmosphere and sense of nostalgia for every scenes and battles in the game. Although I'd prefer them doing more new ost for the game, I do like the fact that they are recomposing some ost from the previous games and make it better.

KH3 has always been a game with a big heart and charm. It is a defining game of many people's childhood. This is a double-edged sword. While this creates nostalgia, it can also create unreasonable expectations from the fans. Some fans might end up not liking it as much as they wanted , but I believe this is partly because if they've grown up past the game itself therefore some of KH3's charm might be lost with time and some might be lost due to changing trends and people's taste. But for me, i really enjoyed this game. It is worth the wait. My suggestion for people or fans who are going to play it; go into it with an open mind. Do not set rigid expectations of what you want to see in this game. Take your time adventuring in each world and do not rush just to see the progression of the story. Pay a closer attention to details especially relating to the story, then you will be rewarded.

In KH1 and KH2 you traveled to a bunch of Disney worlds to fight of the ever increasing threat of the heartless. This spans multiple games and each one had a unique story with some of them following the story of the movie (In KH2) in KH3 they continue to follow this formula but do so in a way that seems to ignore Sora. I felt as though the game wanted to showcase the best that Disney has to offer, but by making sure they and only they can be in the spotlight.

The gameplay itself is the most refined part of the game with fighting feeling really good and whacking bad guys over the head feeling even better. I just never felt a good reason to be doing it. The story was lackluster, the character's motives were dull, the music and voice acting all took a huge nose dive.

I started this review by saying this feels like a game no one wanted to make. The absence of squareenix characters seems to make this more of a Disney project than a combination of Square and Disney. It just didn't complete the experience that many people were waiting for it. They gave us a decade of backstory and build-up to end with this that feels more like "Your time is up. Make way for the new." This is idea is even reflected in the games when Disney classics are basically trying to be pushed away and out of the spotlight for the new ones like Frozen and Tangled (two of the worst worlds because of issues earlier stated.)

This game accomplished what the greatest threat in the game series has been trying to do this entire time.

    Kingdom Hearts 3 is heartless.

So, I was excited for this third game expecting that in the year 2019, that the game would be bigger and better than the original released 17 years ago - nope.

First issue, was the story. How stupid and convoluted was this moronic story? Extremely. It's a joke. The voice acting is subpar, and every cutscene is cringy, with awkward pauses between speaking characters. I literally had to skip every single cutscene. Not to mention the loading screens... Then they just cram every boss battle at the end of the game, so that you literally fight everyone of these guys clones, one after the other, killing them one by one. Why introduce these characters, building them, only to remove them in the most anticlimactic way?

Second, was the choice of worlds, and how short the overall game is. There is really just eight full worlds, with them being Olympus, Twilight Town, Toy Box, Kingdom of Corona, Monstropolis, Arendelle, The Caribbean, and San Francisco. It's amazing that with all the Disney stories they had access to, these are the places they chose.

The game just feels so much shallower than the first game, and to be sure of this, I went back and played the first game to see if it was maybe nostalgia, and perhaps I was mistaken, nope. In the original game there were no less than 13 worlds - Destiny Island, Traverse Town, Wonderland, Olympus Coliseum, Deep Jungle, Agrabah, Monstro, Halloween Town, Atlantica, Neverland, and Hollow Bastion.

Anyways, I'd save my money until it's time for a sale. I wouldn't play for than $30 for this game. It's too late for me, but perhaps I can save you some disappointment, and at least $30.

I wanted this game my whole life too. I loved the trailers of it. And the excitement had me stoked to finally see my boy get his happy ending.

It ties up the ends it needs to, but I feel like there was something missing. I liked it, but I didn't love it, and ten year hype can't ever live up to what I hoped for. I still recommend the game. But it wasn't the finale I hoped for. Still.

Still. Have to admit. While some of it was bland, when it finally gets to the Kingdom Hearts portions, and not the Disney? That's when I had the most fun. It's just a lot of pushing through Disney to get there.

Most of the game is cutscenes. The funny thing is that you basically move forward 2 steps and you get a cutscene. Then you fight aaaaand another cutscene. Storytelling is awful - unnecessary complicated without any straight goals. Feels like a mashup of scripts written by different people. Even if you are up to date with KH story you will feel uncomfortable.
The good part of the game is climate and well-representation of disney/pixar worlds. Characters looks and feels like they came from these famous animations. Graphics changes according to the world you are in. Above that you have some really well designed levels as well as really bad ones. However, there is a noticeable lack of polish that is uncharacteristic for what I've come to expect from Nomura and Square-Enix. The main story suffers from some glaring pacing issues, feels completely dissociated from the Disney worlds, and most of the main characters feel frozen in place while the main trio goes on their adventure (which is put in stark contrast when you remember the fluidity of KH2's storytelling). Speaking of characters, character development is at its worst here for the series. The motivations of each character seem flaky at best and downright inconsistent at worst. I assume the narrative goes for an attempt of the old "trust no one" scenario, but it fails miserably in its delivery which causes the story to appear nonsensical at times.

I would love to say this game is one that fans will love while newcomers will find difficult to pick up, but I don't even think loving fans will be entirely satisfied with the overall quality of this game. My final impression is that this was the first draft of a piece that could have been perfected into a great game but was hurriedly released and is trying to pass as a final product.

It is clearly evident that the main thing they are trying to do in KH3 is to conclude Xehanort Saga and this game succeed in doing so. But it also clearly serves as a bridge to the upcoming games.

The story of KH3 is pretty simple at first glance, but it's arguably more complicated than all previous KH games. It rewards attention to details and penalizes poor attention to detail. There are so many subtle moments and connections in the story that are difficult to follow if you don't pay enough attention to the lores and each small details in the game. This is arguably what happened with some of the fans. They think they understand the story well enough to make judgment about the story, but actually they don't. For example some fans argued on why the 7 guardian of lights go to the Keyblade Graveyard just to be used by Xehanort, but they forgot that Xehanort can actually use the 7 princesses of light instead of the guardians to open Kingdom Hearts. This is not really a problem exclusive to KH fans, this is a problem with fans of games with extensive lores like KH. Of course the story is not perfect. There are still some unexplained plots that are intentionally left open or lack exposition. But despite those shortcomings the story of KH3 still shines just like the previous KH numbered title.

For Graphics and Music, I won't say much since both aspects are close to perfect in KH3.

For combat, there are many things that KH3 could've done better. But overall the base combat mechanics has a lot potential that imo is not fully-explored yet.

Overall, KH3 is a very good game. 8.5/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I've been looking forward to this game for years... I've played almost every part of the series and can definitely say that this is the most disappointing game of them all!
The fights are too easy and I get that they don't want to frustrate any kids playing this game, but that's what lower difficulty levels are there for. Think of your grown-up fans, please.
Speaking of kids: Kingdom Hearts is a game for kids, but fans of the franchise started playing almost 20 years ago. The series has to be balanced especially when it comes to the story-telling.
Boy, oh boy, the story is soooo bad. The first 20 hours into the game lack everything! You stroll through worlds without a real objective, nothing ever seems to be at stake. Sora is supposed to learn a power of which nobody really seems to know what it is, but Mickey and Riku apparently have it. Their storyline is far more interesting, but half of it happens off screen and the bits that are shown are spinning in circles. Same goes for the movie-stories in the worlds. I don't want to see the whole Frozen-song re-animated!!! Show me more about Riku or Kairi or get on with the freakin' story alltogether. There is no feeling of progress and at the end it seems so rushed and confusing. First, they explain everything they plan on doing and all of a sudden everybody dies, then they don't and we seemingly travel back in time, but not to try a different approach this time, no, we are saved by a higher entity that appears out of nowhere. Then people that were believed to be lost show up and nobody knows how they did it, not even the characters themselves. And here comes the biggest logical error in my opinion: Xehanort explains how he needs 13 darknesses and 7 lights. So wouldn't it make sense to avoid bringing him 7 lights??? Why do we try to get 7 lights and do all the work for him? For a long time, I was honestly convinced that Master Yen Sid is secretly a pawn of Xehanort. It makes no sense.
Way to go, SquareEnix, after screwing up the storytelling in FF15, you also ruined the story of KH.
I could go on and on, but I don't want to lose another day to rage on Kingdom Hearts.
I love the previous games, they did a great job, especially with Birth by sleep. That was a game that managed to embrace an older audience as well.
I don't get how people love this game... I am so unsatisfied with everything... despite the looks, the graphics are great and that's why this game gets 1 and not 0 points.

Some people are way too harsh toward this game. They set a rigid expectations of what a perfect game should be in their perspective while forgetting that many of their expectations are just unreasonable and often childish.

Let me get this straight, KH3 is not perfect. It suffers mainly from carrying the burden of the narrative of the previous entries. Story exposition feels lacking because of this. It also does not spoon-feed the details of the plot, likely because they chose to focus on resolving the saga. But this isn't really something new for the series, especially the part where KH likes to leave some details of the plot a bit vague to nurture discussion among the fans and to build anticipation toward the continuation of the story. Yet people acts like this is a problem exclusive only to KH3. It's not.

Gameplay-wise KH3 has some significant issues mainly related to the game being too easy compared to previous games. I agree with this, but tbh I have high hopes for this issue to be resolved through release of the critical mode in near future. The developers at least has shown some commitment to make adjustment to make the game 'hard fun'. Aside from it being too easy, the game imo actually has strong base. With some tweakings I'm sure the gameplay will be a lot better.

Aside from these two weaknesses, the game is almost perfect in other aspects. People should stop saying that they are waiting fro 13 years for this game and use that argument as a base to exaggerated demand for more content. the game has only been in development for 4-5 years at most and for the time they've used in making the game, KH3 satisfy a definition of a great game

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a long time die hard fan of the series, this is one ot the worst installments to date. What was supposed to be the epic end of the Xehanort saga turned out to be a very cheezy, happy and cheerful rush to get this story out of the way in order to further the later added lore and build expectations for the next game.
The game consists mainly of cut scenes, some of which look horrible and were probably made for ps3 while others are stunning but long.
KH3 is way to easy, features absolutly no fun boss fight, no extra boss fights, some final fantasy characters but not to the extent that we would like to see ( im talking moggles but no sign of cloud, sephiroth etc. ) The end boss fights were bundled together with no regard to the individual stories of the org. XIII members and the hardest "extra boss" is just a heartless with extra steps.
I am very disappointed as i expected a way darker kingdom hearts with a thought out story, instead i find myself annoyed with countless pointless minigames and frustrated with the way such a story is built and hyped for 13 years only to be shrugged and rushed off like this.
The Kingdom hearts story never made sense but it never made sense in a way that makes sense. Kh3 just doesent make sense even with kingdom hearts logic.
The fighting system is good but not great, the way magic flows out of Sora looks stunning.
Form changing keyblades are a great idea and fun for a few minutes but i miss the drive system of KH2 and the option to control myself when and how i would like to change my form. The excessive use of **** disney rides shoved down my throat is just annoying.
The worlds look good but many follow the original disney movie to the letter making you sit through just a remake of the movie rather than original fun story and where there are many options to present a boss character from the disney world, kh instead gives you another heartless boss fight.

In short, Disney probably **** this game up the way they did with Star Wars and other franchises by breathing down Nomuras neck. It looks great but plays horribly. I was a fan since 2002 and have loved every game up to this point. Never again, i am very sad.

Have been anticipating this game for a long time and it was worth it. The combat was fun though a bit too easy for my liking. The graphic is amazing. They put so much effort replicating the graphics from each Disney film into each world. The story though imo has some weaknesses it was a fitting end to the Dark Seeker saga. Great game

Complete and utter trash. Less content than a PS2 game, worlds are largely empty or full or mindless fetch quest filler, reused tons of old music, stupid story that retcons older games, bad floaty combat, extremely easy, not worth the 13 year wait.

Kingdom Hearts 3 is a well-made game with a lot of gimmicks that makes it enjoyable to play . It has some issues mainly with the combat and lack of exposition story-wise. But overall the weakness doesn't really ruin the experience and I can surely say while it's not a masterpiece, KH3 is a great game that satisfy my expectations.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game that i hyped for the past decade is a let down.

Yes, the graphics is amazing, the scenery is beautiful, every visual detail of the game looks amazing. None of the other predecessor could top it, even KH 2.8.

But the combat and story is a total letdown.

i'll compare my KH3 experience to KH 1/2.

    1. In the predecessors, when you land a hit on the enemy, will stagger them and open up a chain of combos. However, in kingdom hearts 3, they do not get interrupted majority of the time and you'll just get knocked back instead, taking heavy damage. It feels as though i'm being penalized for swinging the keyblade around.

    2. Guard is severely under-powered. Guarding in KH1/2 usually will stun the enemy on a successful block, allowing counter attacks and provides long invincibility frames. However, guarding in KH3 doesn't help open up a combo and instead, counter attacking after guarding will lead back to point 1., taking hits simply cause you cant even stagger with a counterattack. In KH2, You could cast reflect mid combo to protect yourself as a form of mid combo guard but with the removal of reflect spell in KH3, they should had made it possible to guard mid combo, similar to Limit Form. Yes, It is a good upgrade that you can use guard midair now.

    3. Removal of reaction command. Reaction commands was the essence that is what gave Kingdom Hearts 2 the depth of combat and environment interactions. Quick dodging a Neoshadow's dive, counter dashing a Soldier, grabbing claymores breaking Sai'x out of berserk mode, riding a whirlwind to launch into the air. You name it.
Just a comparison in the similar fight of Saix in KH2 and 3.
On 2, i can block his attacks with consecutive blocks or simply glide around to avoid, grab his claymore and break him out of berserk.
On 3, I'm forced to run around casting magic on Sai'x in order to damage him simply because i had no way of landing a hit without being flung into the air and no way of breaking him out of berserk.
The lack of RC dulled the fighting experience and added annoyance instead.

    4. Magic Abuse. With the melee being so difficult to hit land hits some times, as mentioned, i"m forced to spam magic. To put it bluntly, magic is overpowered here, able to deal heavy damage from a safe distance, just pop those ethers. Nice addition to make run casting possible.

    5. Attractions and Links. If you played KHBBS or KH2, I'm 100% sure you'll never use a summon or Link for fights in KH3 too. Attraction is too overpowered and broken with the long immunity time frames and heavy damage potentials.

    6. Form are locked to weapons. It locks out the flexibility of the form to use. The different mechanics deters me from using any other keyblade other than Kingdom key and Starlight.

    7. No way of recharging focus bar in combat without refocuser or focus orb.

    8. Lack of optional bosses. There's only 1 in this game. KH2 had 15 optional bosses and BBS had 5 at least.

    9. Shallow boss fights mechanics. The fights are just a bunch of barrages of attacks which some are so difficult to dodge or block that you become a punching bag.

    10. Lack of movement abilities till late game. Don't talk about flowmotions cause those are situational. Glide is received near the end of the game and Air Slide is ineffective in combat and replaced with Aerial Dodge, meaning getting into an encounter means moving slower. What happen to Quick Run from KH2's wisdom form growth ability?

    Now onto content and story

    1. So many worlds could had been part of this game. Radiant garden, Land of departure, Disney Castle could had been many of the potential worlds.

    2. If you have never watched the movies, some of the stories makes no sense and some has no follow-ups.

in Frozen, they mentioned Anna went back to the country to find her true love, Hans, but if they have never watched the movie they would never had known the guy trying to kill Elsa was even him.

Hayner/Olette/Pence agreed if there were any progress regarding details about Roxas, they would contact Sora, and yet, after the cutscene where they rescued Ansem the wise, they act as though nothing happened.

Why did Flynn tried to walk away with the crown? The Stabbington Brothers never existed in this story.

Lingering Will was fighting Terra-Xehanort and suddenly he disappear for the rest of the game as though he never appeared to begin with.

Riku Replica sacrifice his new body and left it for Namine, but Namine was revived using the body delivered by Demyx so what did he sacrificed he body for?

What happened to Demyx and Vexen? i know Vexen became Even again so what happened to Demyx who just up and vanished after delivering the replica body for Namine?

Where are all the Final Fantasy characters? what happen to Cloud and Sephiroth? 3. Earning the Ultima Weapon is way too easy and low time consuming compared to KH1/2. 4. Lacked too much contents. KH2 had load of minigames and rewards unlike KH3.

One of the absolute main issues is that fact this suffers from its franchise heritage so any new players will be completely lost storywise, it has useful flashbacks and explains partly some of the events that lead up to KH3 but really does require you to have played some of the previous games to really appreciate this game.

I liked the overall improvements to the gummi ship section, giving the player full freedom of movement and to explore finding power-ups, fighting bosses and waves of enemies is a fun distraction, the downside is that it can get a bit tedious after a while especially when your short of money and this is pretty much the only way to farm.

The voice acting is essentially, although Donalds voice occasionally sounds way off especially when talking about resources nearby, sounds like the poor VA has strep-throat or something =P

Overall, its a pretty great game, well above average but a few minor issues hold it back.

The honest truth, that no one will tell you, is that this game was bad. The only parts of this game worth experiencing, was the ending, in which they finally close off some of the long-awaited mysteries of this series. other than that, the game was dry. The overall writing (aside form ending) was just bad.

I've played every game and been obsessed with the series since the first game when I was eight years old. That being said, I knew going into KH3 as soon as it was announced back in 2013 that I needed to keep my hopes realistic. It's impossible for it to capture that same magic as when you're a kid and this proves true for almost every sequel and/or reboot made years later.

Even with reasonable expectations, I was still disappointed in KH3.

Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed it, I still cried at the beginning and at the end of the game. To be succinct, here's a list of my pros and cons:

    Cons:
The combat. Way too flashy, as I'm sure many critics have said before. The game was far too easy. The attraction rides were stupid and unexplained and just...dumb.
The story. Ridiculously convoluted plot. If this was the first game in a series (no prior established fanbase), the reviews for it would be far lower and a big chunk of this would be due to the insane story. Again, this is coming from someone who has played all the games and understands everything. I get it; doesn't mean it's still not stupid.
The characters! This is what happens when you try to force a ridiculous plot: you bend and break the characters to fit it. This game did not FEEL like the others. For example, Sora, Riku, and Kairi's friendship is a huge part of the series and has been since the first game. But honestly, they barely interact in this! Riku has very little personality, Sora is just full of sunshine to the point where (with all the foreboding evil taking place at the same time) is almost unnerving, and Kairi is by far treated the absolute worst in this whole game. Even XEHANORT, the VILLIAN of the whole series, is treated with more compassion and dignity than Kairi. Kairi should be the coolest character in the entire game! Not only is she a Princess of Light, but she also wields a keyblade! They had a huge opportunity to make her a big-name character, setting her up to star in future games, but no. They went back a thousand steps and turned her into this no-personality damsel in distress who literally only exists to further the half-baked plot.
The disney was also a huge let down too. Were the worlds beautiful? Sure? Was it awesome having multiple party members? Yes! But other than that? The words weren't that big, and most of the areas blended into one another. They weren't interactive in the same terms as the very first game (think of everything you could do in each area of each world. Wonderland alone was, literally, a wonder land, fun to explore to find secrets!). The worlds just felt like tasks you were supposed to get through to move on. You didn't get the chance to bond and learn from the characters (beyond the quick forced interactions). If you didn't watch the Disney movies, you'd have absolutely no idea what happened as you played the game. Rapunzel goes from saying Flynn to Eugene; what the heck is going on with Davy Jones? You're out of luck if you haven't watched the films, but hey, it's just as silly and unexplained as the rest of the game. We didn't get to really immerse ourselves in the world because all the stupid organization members no one cares about kept showing up to be annoyingly vague and mysterious on purpose. There were basically no Disney villains in this game, and the heartless were not catered to each specific world so honestly the whole experience was just very...disappointing, particularly compared to the other games.
WAY too many cutscenes. You literally play for a minute before a 10 minute cutscene is triggered. I LOVE Kingdom Hearts but even I was tuning out for most of these because they were so stupid and boring and just plain unnecessary. Like what was even the point of Maleficent and Pete? They contributed absolutely nothing to the game. Honest to God you could cut 75% of the cutscenes from this game and not take away from anything at all. So much of this game was just unnecessary. They really needed an English Lit major on their team to go in and read their script and cut away all the unnecessary bs.

    Pros:
The graphics. It really is a gorgeous game.
The versatility. Sora being able to run up buildings and dive deep underwater was nice.
I liked the magic. Though I prefer how it was set up in the first game vs the others. I really liked the effects too; because able to slide on the ice after using blizzard, Sora reacting to getting burned, etc
Nostalgia. It's KH. I'd take a bad KH game over no KH game. I'm still ticked off about the game (don't get me started on the 100 acre wood), but all in all, I'm glad I played it. It's okay.

The combat is painfully easy even on Proud (and downright boring on Lvl 1 runs due to how you have to abuse the mechanics). I've gone through some fights just tapping cross and occasionally triangle without moving and came out perfectly fine. The addition of the Disney rides was reprehensible. I have to intentionally skip over them every time they show up as a command because they give you free wins.

The pacing is pretty bad. There's only a handful of times that I have been able to go from fight to fight without sitting through a long winded cutscene that ends up being meaningless. It got so bad I had to start skipping some of them because I found myself looking at my phone anyway. That's not even to mention some of the strange pauses during the dialogue that feel super unnatural. I honestly asked myself at one point, if they wanted to make an interactive movie, why didn't they just release it on Netflix?

The gummy portion being open exploration is almost a nice addition.. until I realized that, in space, I can't point my ship straight up and down. So when I'm hunting items...I have to slowly spiral up and down to change my elevation. It's 2019, flying controls should not be this bad. Especially if the main/only open exploration is centered around them.

The amount of minigames is way too high. If they had focused even 20% away from this I feel like the gameplay could have been improved.

Also not a fan of the cooking meals thing. I didn't get KH3 to play Monster Hunter, especially when the buffs are unnecessary as Sora is OP. In fact, the design of the game makes me question why I got it at all.

I have had more fun grinding forms in KH2FM than I have had at any point in KH3.

Overall the game is very good, and most of it's problem are in the writing and some decisions around it. Graphics are great, OST great, everything runs fine. Seriously, for the absurd of things hapenning on the screen this game holds pretty well.

    There are two overall problems
    1. As a KH game it is great, as an ending to the Dark Seeker Saga, that's going on for years and years, is terrible.
This game spend so much time setting up the next installment instead on properly finishing this story. Characters have minimum screen time, and even when they do, it is spend setting up things for the future, like for exemple the short scene with Aqua and Ventus in Yen Sid tower, where they finally have a moment to rest and talk. Instead of they having some emotional talk after all they've been trough, Ven's dialogue lines are spend in explainning kind how he ended up in KHX ¬¬
You'll have this feeling that the game is not interessted in it's own story, the next thing (game) is what's important.
The characters, except for Roxas (OP as hell xD) and Sora (thanks to the power of potagonism), are dumb down versions of themselves, is sad seeing what they have become, after playing with them in the other games.

    2. The second overall problem, is that the game doesn't really knows it's audience. There are no FF characters so now what we have is disney and KH, stuff. OK, fine, but the majority of the game is focused on the disney side. And again, if this was just another game, this wouldn't be a problem, that's how it has always being. But the game had a long story with ton of characters to conclude, doing so only in the very end of the game, therefore all the complaints about the desastrous pacing of this game. In the end, the fans of the series will rush to the end game, 'cuz thats where things happen, while the fisrt time players will fall asleep during the cutscenes, that try so hard to give expositions on things that the fans alreday know, in the end it doesn't work for both!

The disney worlds (where you'll spend almost the whole game) are very good, probably the best till now, with exception of one or two. In terms of story I think BH6 is the best, because it merged very well and in a believable way the disney stuff with KH stuff.
The gameplay is brain-dead easy, there is no management of resources, no risk reward, Sora has so many options that cost nothing or barely nothing while the enemies will be very limited in their moves. You can tank so many hits before dying. Level 1 run, can be quite difficulty specially for how long the boss fights are gonna be, since you'll be doing chip damage. The game has very few combo modifiers and are not even good ones. The basic combos do not have a clear division line of ground combos X aerial combos, the game wants you in the air, as most as possible!
Now, there are some very good abilities like reprisal. Keyblade transformation and being able to upgrade them are really cool, the links are useful, specially level 1 run. Boss fights, even the last ones, are a joke, unoriginal and very basic (you know, take a monster, make it big, and there it is!)

This game needs DLC, implement things that the other titles had, and make use of so much empty space that are useless in the game, like the whole Port Royal, or Olympus for exemples.

I would like to start off thinking my self as a Kingdom Hearts buff. I understand and know most of everything that has taken place in the Kingdom Hearts series from Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep all the way until now. I may have not played every game But i have made sure to understand the story from the games I could not play.

The biggest let down of this game is something that was introduced into Kingdom hearts II. which was the Drive system. That system felt good. I thoroughly enjoyed the system. The Keyblade form changes were unique and felt good. but the dual wielding aspect of Kingdom Hearts II should have carried through to this game for Sora. Another thing disappointing was the fact the game left out some trademark Keyblades that been apart of Sora's arsenal in both Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Heart 2. I will not name names. but they are missing none the less.

While I understand the game requires to tie up a lot of Xehanort story lines, we seen not a single Final Fantasy character. this in my opinion made the game feel less Kingdom Hearts. The lack of Final Fantasy characters such as Yuffie, Leon, Aerith, Tifa, Cloud, and many other Final Fantasy characters has left the game feeling incredibly hollow. We didn't even here a mention of them. what is worse is we didn't even go one of the most recognizable Worlds in hollow Bastion or would be renamed after all the missions in it were completed Radiant garden.

The one thing i will give the Gummi ship is that it is rather enjoyable by comparison to its iterations from Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts 2. Free roam there are some missions you can do to break up the world hopping but its a dash of fluff. there are a few achievements to be gained from this part of the game its again fun.

the biggest issue i had with all the worlds was once their stories was done, that was it. there was a few times i would go back for the flan Side quests. But more often than not i didn't go back unless it was to collect all the treasures or lucky emblems. and once you get one of the best Keyblades for farming synthesizing materials. it comes from one of the first two selectable worlds and i cannot remember but at any given time it always felt like there were only two story worlds you could travel to at a time until you completed the pairing. which is not a bad thing as both Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts II did this. and the fact there are only nine worlds and Ten if you consider the book of Pooh a tenth which short lived and was almost meaningless to the game. Kingdom hearts one didn't have nearly as many worlds or places you could travel to like Kingdom hearts II did. But Kingdom hearts III further behind the previous incarnations. with only 9 worlds to explore and the final stage really doesn't have much to explore in it. which is hugely disappointing.

one of the highlights of this game has to be its combat and traversing systems. most of the attractions commands are novel at best. use them a couple of times before they where out their novelty. But the combo attacks with Goof Donald and the unique world companion are some of the most unique and great additions to the game. The days of burning through your entire MP reserve are now gone when utilizing combo attacks. one of the best implementations. i cannot say how this makes me happy as someone who would never use the combo attacks from the prior games with out feeling like i was left out in the wind due to MP resources being eaten away. the Keyblade form changes fantastic most are great that i have used. there is one that i find to be rather annoying but that is a story for another time. great system. i just feel its going to be left behind like the rest of the other systems.

glaring aspects that cannot be ignored overly long cut scenes at the end each world. I appreciate all the dialogue and exposition. but it when it detracts from the game play thats a negative. I almost felt in some cases i was playing Metal Gear Solid 4 with all the Cut Scenes. and yes they were valuable to the main story. While they did tie up the Xehanorth Saga, they still didn't wrap it up like a bow like they needed to. The end of this game felt incomplete.

one of the best revisions to one of the more long lasting traditions was the synthesizing shop. the you get new patterns of providing new synthesizing materials is excellent fantastic change.

for a game that has been in development since 2013 and has been anticipated since 2005 for Japan and 2006 for the rest of the world. and took nearly thirteen years later to reach the hands of the audience this game shows how flawed it really is. a lot of the feeling that made Kingdom Hearts Kingdom Hearts just is not there anymore. its an unfortunate tale of dragging a convoluted story out too long over too many platforms. The anticipation for this game and the expectations were a let down. I spent 70+ hours on this game. at least i got my moneys worth out of the game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

In terms of audio and aesthetics, this installment blows all of its predecessors out of the water. The visuals are straight out of a fully rendered Pixar movie, and as always, Square never fails to deliver when it comes to KH music.

The story on the other hand, was poorly paced unfortunately. The high bar that was set as a result of all of the games in between KH2 and KH3 left the audience expecting a fantastic finale to the Xehanort arc, but the meaty portions of the story weren't covered until the final 6-8 hours of the game. There were a plethora of characters that we expected closure for by the end of the game, but all of their plots were tackled back to back which made the delivery feel slightly rushed. All of the stories in the Disney worlds felt like an abbreviated retelling of their standalone films, with Sora and friends watching from the sidelines when it should've been the other way around. The closure was there, but the delivery could've been done better simply by having the story progress slowly throughout the game rather than having it all back loaded.

The combat is very satisfying and flashy, however Sora now has access to so many overwhelmingly strong options that it feels like the enemies don't stand a chance. There are periods where so many Situation Commands are present, and each one is so gamebreaking that the enemies don't survive long enough for you to go down the list. Because of this, it never felt like there was a 'wrong' decision when it came to choosing which command and in which order.

Overall, the game is still very good. If it weren't for the pacing of the story and easy difficult it could easily be an instant classic.

It excels as both a love letter to longtime fans and a promising stepping stone towards the future of a series that has never feared change, just like Sora has never been afraid of the unknown. This game made me realize just how much longtime players have grown up right alongside Sora, how this series has grown with us.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Game was beautiful in every aspect with mind-blowing graphics and beautiful soundtrack. I did however expect a lot more considering the wait though. Don't get me wrong I loved the game, I just expected more but that's just me. It did answer questions that I've had with the series and it also did make me question more about it after watching all the secret endings. I was just hoping for a more.. dramatic ending and ***SPOILER*** I thought this was the end of Sora's journey.

The multiple trailers in my opinion did ruin a lot of my experience with the game considering the fact that I knew what was going to happen next but that was completely my fault on watching them.

I did enjoy the game-play but some of the action commands didn't really seem to fit in some spots but easy fix to that is to not activate them. They just felt more like cut-scenes if anything during battles, especially the summons from previous games also.

All in all I loved the game and I'm expecting to do a second game-play on a higher difficulty as I found Standard Mode to be fairly easy. The only reason i'm giving an 8 is because I just expected a little bit more from the worlds and the trailers shown. The secret endings definitely made my jaw drop and definitely felt some nostalgia after most things got answered throughout the game. Looking forward to the next DLC(considering one possible theory from one of the endings) or the next installment of the game. Lets just hope it doesn't take as long as it did though.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A lazy mess of a game. The gameplay cares more about being flashy then any sort of sense or skill, the execution is poor to the point that the 'acting' looks terrible and amateurish despite being cg, and there really isn't a story to speak of. The 'story' is a short and directionless pile of random tropes with another short and directionless pile of random tropes standing in for Sora. What makes it all the more tragic, is that the game had some good ideas and a LOT of potential, but it's clear that Disney cared more about advertising to you and protecting the image of every one of their properties in a blind fervor then making anything decent and it cost this game any sense of identity.
As mentioned before, the game is really short, but while disappointing, it's also kind of a blessing as it spares us more awful cutscenes that butcher the characters we've grown to love -heroes and villains alike. The most disappointing part of the game has got to be Kairi. Anyone who was looking forward to her being a keyblade wielder after kh2 will be disappointed as she spends the whole game training only to do nothing in the final fight and be damsel-in-distressed and partly fridged. By the end this game felt like a betrayal of everything the past games have built up...
As a game, it is sub-par. As kingdom hearts 3, it is downright terrible...
    For those interested, a quick list of my complaints about the game;
    terrible writing including
    -tropes for personality
    -out of place comedy
-0 subtlety or quiet moments -everything is overdone
    -sora understands nothing
    -tropes for events
    -sora's forced mc syndrome
    -terrible character motivation
    -and much more
    poorly remaking Disney films wholesale
only sora plays any major role anywhere
the utter departure from the darker themes of kh for sunshine and rainbows
unexplained, unaddressed random deus ex TIMETRAVEL in the final battle
villeins constantly showing up only to talk with the mc and be cryptic
maleficent constantly showing up to be inconsequential and hype the NEXT game
all villeins -including past final bosses- being utterly un-threatening
    really short
all worlds being one and done
flowmotion is interesting, but clunky and pointless
attractions show up all the time and can't be turned off
    loading screen fake-twitter
    no skill required for battle
hyper protectiveness of Disney ips getting in the way of the story (like donald calling every princess randomly strong like 3 times)
missing the point of almost every story told
no connection between worlds by plot and nothing being accomplished
each villein getting a redemption scene upon loss, even ansem
buzz gets lectured to about friendship despite being absolutely right about sora
awful directing, scenes go on far too long often
Constant and overdone use of the sparkle effect
    dire lack of ff characters
general lack of polish on everything but the graphics
and a lot more that i can't think of off the top of my head.

Graphic and music wise, KH3 is just spectacular. The music is awesome as always. It is effective in evoking your emotions in many cutscenes. The battle ost has never been this epic.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. These reviews are all paid for and are incorrect, not to mention read the same. This is by far the most disappointing game in the KH series.

If you choose not to fight every enemy that spawns you will be mainly watching 5min cut scenes every 20 seconds of gamplay walking (ToyStory is where you'll feel this really kick into high gear). in total my game has 18 hours saved and I watched every cut scene (theres 10.3 hours of cut scenes). This means that I spent 8 hours playing a game and basically a whole day watching an animated movie in which the plot isn't explained, but seems forced in the last 2 hours of the game.

The visuals are an amazing improvement however the game chucks gimmicks and tries to distract you from poor game design. For instance reaction commands that aren't cohesive, worlds that are one or two rooms (theres a few of them). Worlds where you do the same thing continuously (I had to climb Elsas mountain 3 times before I could get to the top), the most exhausting end game tasks in any game ("lucky symbols or mickey shapes that blend into the world or can't be seen unless from certain angles are nothing like trinity symbols in kh1 etc.) and the least amount of "boss battles" in of the main games.

I literally thought I was a third - half the way finished the game when suddenly it ended. This is a waste of money and im sure the producing studio will feel proud they wasted 2 days of my life in a game with zero nostalgia, painful cut scenes and minimal play after being a die hard fan for 17 years.

The worlds were boring and repetitive and i didn't even care to return to any of them. I struggled to get through this, not because it was difficult but because i just wanted to stab my ears off anytime someone mentioned hearts or the importance of friendship. The attempts to modernize the game by adding twitter like load screens and the gummiphone were so half baked and so lame, if they wanted to modernize KH they should have spend more time updating the story telling and gameplay to todays standards. Also where was the sound effects department when it came to the cut scenes? i noticed this in the trailer and thought it was just a stylistic choice, but no there is simply no SFX in the cutscenes which makes this game feel even more hollow and empty like the Nobodies or what ever tf they are called. The combat was flashy and varied for those who didnt just want to button mash to get through a level but the one thing that angered me to no end was the disney attraction summons, they were so frequent and annoying, that i felt someone strong armed Square to put them in to promote the park which didnt work and they were not fun to use. Also WHERE THE HELL IS LEON and the rest oft the FINAL FANTASY CREW. Did KH forget that FF was the reason alot of gamers bought the game in the first place?

Yes the visual and animations were great and the gameplay is solid and pretty to look at, thats why i cant give it a 0, but pretty graphics don't make a game great. I know the kids that play wont understand this concept because all they care about is graphics. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. KH3 is a nice game overall and it is worth buying even for new players that have not play any other KH games in the series. (But new players might want to go through some plots/summaries on youtube before diving in). But I must say I am a bit disappointed after completing the game. By completing, I mean getting all trophies. I am still craving for more contents. At the end, I still think it is a step down from KH2.

    Pros:
    - nice graphics ( Imo, this isn't necessary for a great game but surely add points )
    - great OST
    - easy and fluid combat for everyone at different age to enjoy the story
    - story progression ( Xehanort line done, I guess )
    - lots of mini games, ( diversity of gameplay?, good for a change of pace/mood )
    - space exploration for gummy ship , creative gummy ship editing
    - less grinding than before, easy money, easy xp, easy ultima weapon. (hardest part was to grind ingredients for synthesizing all stuff)
    - got to be the captain of the Black Pearl and sail in open sea

    Cons:
    - less worlds in total, worlds are small as in areas
    - easy combat even in proud mode
    - mini games are not that interesting, if not for getting Ultima weapon, I wouldn't bother to play a second time
    - Sora is like a bystander in most of the worlds, without much interactions with local characters and without involving in the original stories
    - no FF characters
    - unsatisfying last boss fight. not cool, not grand, not exciting, feels like a drag-on cut scene. Xehanort doen't look like a last boss, his attacks/skills doesn't match his power, pretty easy to dodge/guard. Got a feeling of "that's it?" after beating him. Actually waiting for his "3rd" form/fight at the first time but all I got was an ending. Can't compare to the epic boss fight in KH2. The laser blocking was tense as hell.
    - rubbish "secret" boss. It is not secret at all. It is not even strong. All 3 phases are basically the same animations and skills. Finish the fight even quicker than Xehanort. Give me back my Sephiroth in KH2.
    - Hearts-ception. hearts , hearts every where. hearts within hearts within hearts.

Let me elaborate more on my points.

    Combat:
I feel like it is concentrated on visual effects and fast pace rather than on the feeling of "hitting something" or "hitting hard". Sure, the attack animations are fluid, fast, flashy, colourful, massive aoe when doing pole dance. Most of the time, Sora's motion is unaffected/unhindered by how heavy the monsters are. It feels like going into a group of monsters hitting nothing but air. Not to mention the knock backs on both enemies and Sora are still fake af with them kind of floating backwards at a slow speed.
The situational commands (ie triangle) are alright i guess. The form change? Nice to be powered up and have a different combo and finisher. The grand magics? I love them. They are kinda cool. The "rides"? If the cut scenes can be skipped, that would be nice. They are nice to look for a few times but they got annoying real quick. And you sometimes take damage from monsters in the rides. So I either don't use them at all, or quickly trigger the finisher right after I started them.
The combat is just so easy (no lv lock of course)that you can keep pressing X through the whole game without problem. I am not asking for some dark souls level combat with stamina bar and recovery time management. But there is almost no technique involve in fights. I don't know, maybe some monsters can only be damage by counter attack? or magic? maybe can only be killed if Sora bait out some move? I know there are big fat guys with shield belly which can only be X at the back but that's about it. I can X X X X through everything else. Overall feels like a over simplify Disney version of devil may cry.

    Maps:
There are like 9 worlds? too little man, just too little. Most of the worlds are too small in size as well. The representative must be winnie the pooh world. Basically 3 mini games in a room. Winnie the pooh story is also coming out of nowhere and also finish very suddenly. The big hero 6 world is like a garage base and a big empty city. You have nothing to do on streets during main story. There is nothing to really interact, NPCs are doing NPCs stuff without giving a single fk about you. If I am not going treasure hunting, I will not have the chance to appreciate the work they have put into the city buildings. The twilight town is small. I love Jack Sparrow's world tho. And if you have watched them Disney films before, correct me if I am wrong, Sora have no effects on the stories whatsoever.

    Story:
Mostly "I have friends, our hearts are connected together. You lonely loser, fk you." The conspiracy from Xehanort, which should kind of linking up all KH series so far, turns out to be a really simple one. "The world is tainted, I want a reset." - Xehanort. What an unexciting explanation.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A half-baked cash in that feels like a rushed mess in order to clean up all the story arcs over 10 years in order to make a new series of games. The charm is gone, the fun combat is gone and replaced with pressing X until the next amusement park ride shows up. Oh, and thanks for an Ice Labyrinth that means nothing and is literal padding instead of say exploring the environments of Frozen. Glad Kairi got to be a true keyblade hero and showed your trained skil-oh. Nevermind. Dead for the sake of weak story necessity. I'm beyond disappointed in this 'final entry'. Expand

This game is just fine. It promised to close the Dark Seeker Saga and it did, but it feels rushed in so many ways: Many missing characters, many characters with no voice actors, scenes with no rhythm or coherence, missing Final Fantasy characters, very few worlds, terrible pacing, missing worlds shown in trailers (like Mysterious Tower)... Another problem is that if you saw all theThis game is just fine. Another problem is that if you saw all the trailers like many did, you pretty much saw everything the game had to offer. Nothing less, nothing more. That was extremely disappointing.
But it's still fine, it plays nice, combat is flashy, maybe too easy, and there are too many mini-games and gimmicks IMO. But if you want some kind of closure, you'll get it. It just doesn't do much else than that, it could've been so much greater. KH2 feels way more larger in many ways than this one, and having more than 9 games building up to this game, maybe the expectations were too high.

Kingdom Hearts III doesn’t go in the direction some RPG fans will no doubt have been hoping for. It’s unashamedly over the top in just about every way, from its barmy story and stunning presentation to its huge cinematic battles. There’s plenty of depth here too, though you’ll need to find your bearings first.

There is no doubt that Kingdom Hearts III will make long term fans moved or even cry. As for those new to the franchise, I believe they also can be satisfied because of tons of classic Disney elements and solid combat system, even though they could barely understand the main story.
