Incredible amount of bugs ruining a decent open world RPG. Difficulty is very high at start, quickly falls off around mid-game. Abnormally high amount of bugs on PS4 specifically. Recommended on any other platform.

Basic things, like the story is very bland, at about 15-20 hours into the game I was still waiting for plot to start, something to happen, anything interesting at least, but soon realized this must be it.
Once you get to explore the map, it’s all about boring conversations with dull characters, dull questing (very dull side quests), trekking to a quest marker for several minutes while watching posters on your wall because the graphics and the environment are so harsh on PS4. Traveling by foot stamina consumption is a joke, on horse it’s bit faster, until you find an insurmountable tree trunk, or bushes.

There is realism for sure, but all in the wrong places; seemingly adult Henry needs to be fed and slept far too often, hints for items appear only when you’re close enough (it is fun to lick every corner of every house you come across). Battle system may be somewhat realistic, but the feel of it is more like a bum fight. Perks are irrational, you can teach Henry to consume less food and such.. Right there realism goes though the window.
Menu system is really non-user friendly. Inhibited saving is a joke also (no wonder a save mod was made within the first week of release for PC) And lockpicking on PS4 controller, really..

Firewatch on PS store offers you better plot, price and gameplay, if you want a walking simulator.

This negative review is not to scorn Warhorse Studios by any way, I only wanted to write an honest criticism of an overpriced product which in my opinion should have been 20 euro on PS store.
I specifically avoid to compare this title to any preceding games, which may have set the standards too high. Kingdom Come pretty much made me wary to pre-order any full-priced first releases from unknown developers. If they believe in their game, give us PS4 users a demo first.

This is not a "Souls" game, where after many frustrating attempts you finally succeed and be rewarded in some way. No, it's just frustrating most of the time. Even the simplest basic stuff is so annoying difficult, like lock picking. After some hours trying to unlock even one "very easy" chest, I gave up. Games should be challenging, not unplayable.

I loved the game from the beginning to end. I really enjoyed most of the things that the game tried to do but then again, I started playing it at version 1.71 .

I would still love to have motion(gyro) option for the bow tho. It's no excuse for games in this day and age not to have motion controls for things like archery. I understand why many do not like them but I've always used them

I understand why many do not like them but I've always used them on my Nintendo games/consoles and it feels like trying to split wood blindfolded. Just add an option for the likes of us that do like using gyroscope to make fine aiming adjustments while running and/or on moving targets.

And sure, there can be many more adjustments made to make the game a lot better but what the developers did here is a jewel. You can just tell how this kind of games are completely lacking for some years now. I still play Mount and Blade to fill this medieval fighting need :) and there are so many of us that crave for a proper medieval RPG.

KINGDOM COME: DELIVERANCE it the one that fills a lot of this need but it could be a lot better.

Please don't stop adding content, fixes and DLCs to this game !

Almost everything about the game is poorly explained. How does the upgrade system work? How do I prevent food poisoning? How do I fight multiple enemies? The game never helps you with these things, which causes a lot of frustrations. Another bad thing is the lockpick system, even the very easy lockpicks make me feel like I'm playing dark souls, which is not great for something so simple. The story is full of cliché with endless and often pointless talking during cutscenes, graphics is fine but with glitches and the loading times are very long. On top of that there are tons of bugs - some of them not fixed even two years after the release as this game is such a mess that it is not fixable.
So if you are masochist as some fans of this game, play it. Otherwise avoid, there are many much better games. BTW: I tried the game out of curiosity also on friend’s PC and it was similarly bad experience.

KCD makes a lot of its modest possibilities: The independent combat system is great fun (the only criticism here would be the combos, which were almost impossible to implement at least for me), the open, beautiful game world is atmospheric and immersive due to its "realistic" design (completely without volcanoes and other crap, there is still enough to discover), the character system with its perks is super coherent (learning by doing), the quest are well written with hardly any repetitions and several ways to solve and and and and ... What for me as for many others were also very well received: in KCD you are not the designated hero with overwhelming abilities, but you literally have to fight your way out of the gutter and, thanks to the skill system, naturally develop your skills according to your own playing style. If you expect a lot of action, you will be disappointed, KCD is more for "slow gamers" and develops its full fascination over time.
The start might be a little hard and even contains some light "survival" elements which makes it even more rewarding fighing (or sneaking) you way through it.

Sure, the technology doesn't blow anyones mind on a normal PS4, which has bothered me, especially with the somewhat stiff NPC movements and the frequent pop-ups of textures, buildings etc. Luckily, many other early issues such as the annoying lock picking with the controller have already been patched.

With the story you could go a step further here and there, but the variety of the quest design, the many side quest and greats dlcs, the game world etc. are absolutely covering all the technical issues . The anticipation for part 2 could hardly be bigger. This is a real immersive rpg you can spend many hours with. Its not a perfect game but it makes many things different in a positive way than other so called rpgs like Witcher 3 (dont get me wrong, it loved this games as well) which all in all makes KCD a wonderful experience.

A lot more issues that takes an hour just to write about.

These are NOT OKAY for the price they are asking!

KCD is trying to create brand new mechanics for the RPG and open world fans here.

Many rpg's nowadays are very easy , combat is hack&slash, you have detailed maps and quest markers so questing is piece of cake. Well if you're happy and comfortable with these games KCD is not your game. Many negative reviews here are said to be game breaking. No, they are the developers' choices.

This might make it seem like the game is broken. But in time your character will get better and it’s a great feeling when you start to get good. Other than that the story is engaging, even though its simple, and there is a lot of things to do.

At release this game had a lot of game breaking bugs, therefor I originally had it rated as a 6, but most of that is now fixed. Even though it’s still quite buggy, it’s nowhere near the level it previously was. However, the game is not as polished as a many other games which is one of the biggest drawbacks with the game. But the atmosphere and immersion this game manages to provide outweighs the games lackluster polish.

Overall this is a solid game that provided me with much enjoyment and was different enough compared to many other RPG’s to stand out in my mind, much thanks to the games approach to semi-realism. Would recommend to anyone who likes RPG’s with a little slower pace than normal.

I hadn't seen or heard much about Kingdom Come: Deliverance up until about a week before release. Seemed exactly like the type of game I was looking for after drifting between various titles for the past few months and feeling quite mehhh about them all.
If something doesn't grab my attention whether it be book, film or game within the first half an hour I will put that thing down and never go back to it without hesitation. Kingdom Come NEARLY fell foul of this. I'll explain why.

    1) Day 1 patch - 23gb - basically everything on the hard copy I'd bought was redundant as it was replaced by an entirely new set of files from a server. Not a good start, BUT I persevered. Having worked in the games industry for over 10 years, I understood Day One patches are par for the course.
    2) Day 3 patch 13gb - Now this one did irk me. I'd still only given over an hour or so to the game and there was suddenly another huge patch.
    3) The opening title sequence where it gives you a brief history of when and where the game is set. To this day, I still don't know what button to press to skip this. I hammer everything. Sometimes it feels like its circle, some days its x, other days its the Start/Options button. This is basic bread and butter stuff for any game, come on guys.
    4) Lockpicking - I've seen people hate this, I've seen people love the difficulty of it. I am well and truly in the hate camp. It just doesn't work on console. At all. Fully appreciate its a new way of approaching lockpicking, but its executed so badly on console that I just don't bother with it. I'd rather suffer the ramifications of beating someone to death to get a door or trunk key than to sit trying to bother with it. I'm really glad they're looking into it and patching it for console as it is needed. It sticks out glaringly from every other trainable skill as being flawed.

So I'll be honest, I put down Kingdom Come based off the above. I just thought 'clunky' and would be trading it in within the week.

As chance may have it, I ended up having a days holiday from work last week. At a loose end, I decided to start afresh, give it a solid chunk of my time to give it a fair crack, after all I'd spent £50 on it.

I played through the Prologue, and then once I was left to my own devices out in the world, this is where the fun started.

I spent the next 12 hours of gameplay doing side quests or doing my own thing. The game got its hooks in me. I spent time learning skills like hunting long before you come across it as part of your quest line. I love that there's no reticle and you have to simply, be good at using a bow, which makes the pay off during a hunt all the more satisfying, particularly when you head into a town and cash in on the meat and hides you earn (top tip: if you want to earn good money in KCD - become a hunter).

I've become so immersed in the world, that the main quests seem peripheral to my own goals of levelling up the various skills, improving my status within towns, taking care of bandits out on the road, and of course, hunting.

As for the quests, I like how you aren't gifted anything. You have to work for it. This where I'd say its more medieval simulator than out and out game. And it works. Why should you be gifted anything?

You want to beat a guy who is a seasoned swordsman in a duel, then you learn how.
You want to become a hunter downing stag out in the wild, don't expect herds of them rushing through the vast forests - you be patient and you track them (the bleed out feature on hunting animals is great).
You want to be scholarly and learn all their is to know - you put the graft in and you learn to read.

Oh and you want good prices when haggling in towns? Keep your nose clean. Keep your clothes clean whilst you're at it.

I've barely even begun to touch things such as herbalism, so my hunting yield is offsetting my expense on saviour schnapps, but has also netted me a good sum of money so I can get a better horse, and better saddlebags so I can spend longer out in the wild.

Yes there's graphical glitching. Yes the draw distance is a little sloppy at times, yes there are still niggling collision and game stopper issues that will hopefully get ironed out, but given the sheer size of the game you can understand why some of these are still to be ironed out.

It got an 8 from me. I'd have given it a 9 save for the lockpicking which i think hinders a whole other aspect of the game.

I'm enjoying it that much, I'm hoping once the issues from this one has settled, that there's plans to expand it. Would definitely buy more.

Those who have given it super negative scores seem to have encountered the issues I initially had and dismissed it off the back of them. Don't. Put the effort in. Its so worth it.

Yet, it's riddled with bugs, which is nothing unique, but its utterly Spartan use of auto-saves and its use of an archaic and expensive save-game mechanic makes what should be a minor nuisance to a near game-breaking problem (you must drink a rare and costly potion to save your game). A weird glitch caused me suddenly float into the sky while using an alchemist bench, before plummeting to my death. My last save-point was three hours earlier.

I don't know how my laptop survived being thrown out of the window.

Combat is next to impossible - single combat can be fun in a challenging way - but as soon as there is a second opponent it's utterly impossible. The game uses an auto-lock-on feature, forcing you to face one attacker at time, making it nearly impossible to keep moving away from the second attacker. If there were some way to disable this "feature" combat would still be very difficult, but at least manageable.

I really, really want to like this game. I'm crossing fingers and toes that they will release some desperately needed patches and re-work the save system. Until then, I'm afraid this game just isn't worth the price tag.

This review is for spanish people, I respect english, but I think too many reviews are available in English. Many people needs reviews in their matter language for know about this game. I cant understand about negative scores, because this is a wonderful incredible realistic medieval game. A patch solves and fixed numerous bugs including in the first day game. In my opinion this Kingdom Come Deliverance is a jewel on RPG games. Its realistic life and his variety and content is huge.

LIKE HELL IT WAS! You can't even change the sensitivity settings on PS4 for your analog sticks. You can't even remap any of the asinine non-intuitive controls. Why oh WHY is triangle not jump? What were they THINKING??

Combat is a mess as well. In theory it's cool but in practice all you do is cheese the AI because trying to fight anyone "legit" will just end up with you needing to use 7 expensive bandages to clog your wounds before you bleed out. I'm down with realism but at a certain point there needs to be ways to fight at least SOME of the enemies early game and stand a chance without being cheesy to the AI.

Every single mechanic in this game is unfun. Lockpicking? Oh here break a million expensive locks trying to pick an "easy" lock. Oh you broke a lock and someone is remotely in the vicinity? GUAAARDS! Hope you spent half your gold to stock up on a few "save your game" potions. Hope those save your game potions didn't make you too drunk to pick the lock. And even if you did all those, since you will break that lock 99% of the time, spend the next two hours of your life having zero fun while you reload your save and it takes 60 seconds each time.

Oh you like alchemy? Here's the instruction book that you can't read, it gives you ingredients but no actual instructions on what the **** else you need to do to. Now watch as you spend several minutes going through the asinine and overly complicated process they force you to go through just to fail making the potion anyway. Time to google how to do it since the game is crap at explaining it, because constantly having to google things in games is FUN aint it!?

You'll be doing a lot of googling while playing this game because NOTHING in this game is explained or makes sense. For instance you go out and hunt an animal and take the meat. Oh the meat counts as stolen and you lose respect w/ the trader because you tried to sell the meat you just hunted? THAT SURE MAKES SENSE DOESN'T IT!? Then you google it and find out it's because apparently all land in the game belongs to some noble and they can magically tell which meat you hunted and consider it stolen if you hunted it on their grounds. What great design! Truly a masterpiece of our generation!

In short the game is just not very fun to play at all. And yes, after a while things become easier, but not because you learn their **** mechanics or anything like that. Nope, it's just because in true poorly designed modern rpg fashion you eventually spend the resources to level your skills up and you get "perks" that make the mechanics function like they should have all along (auto brew potions, lockpicks don't break as easily, etc.)

This game is 100% frustration and disappointment. The only positive thing I can really say about the game is the setting is unique and they do a good job of trying to make it historically accurate and are minimal on the fantasy elements which is a slight breath of fresh air. But it just blows my mind how bad most the mechanics are in the game. I didn't go over all of them but trust me every single one is not just bad, but god awful and horrible in fact. Archery for example is a complete joke. I would never recommend getting this game unless they patch all of this dumb crap. Especially don't get the ps4 version as it has zero options as far as tweaking your settings (which blows my mind because in the PC version you actually can control sensitivity)

Also I feel that this is made for the more experienced RPG type of player, I never play RPG normally but this type of game and story appealed to me. But for me the tutorial offers me very little as to what is ahead. I think it could have been implemented so much better to attract more people to the genre.

I have poured in just over 35 hours into K.C.D and I have never endured such a throbbing headache from a game so frustrating as this. On my PS4Pro, the visuals are blurry in the homescreen! The homescreen! Nothing renders good at all until I'm two feet away and once its clear it looks like something from 2010. The world is dull and seems empty except within townships, horseplay is dreadful, archery is down right broken and swordplay... I am not even going to comment on the swordplay. For the time I spent in combat no matter how many times I encouraged myself to try again, train in the training ground, get used to the controls, I just could not get over the learning curve. Maybe I just suck at this game, and maybe also if the game wasn't so awful to look at sometimes and somewhat boring besides the story itself which is not bad, I might be able to keep trying.

Ok so good things are the characters seem interesting enough, I certainly want to know what happens with Henry. The music is very nice and the sounds are wonderful in the wild. I applaud the devs effort, I appreciate their vision and the depth of this rpg. I hope they make some fixes patch this up and make it playable for me and those who feel the same way I do. I believe they are onto something here but current state of the game is simply not ready. A shame.

The cutscenes are beautifully directed, the gameplay mechanics are insanely creative (you even have to learn how to read before you can use books), and it’s incredibly historically accurate. It’s nice to just walk around and explore the world the development team has created. Combat is intense and your character isn’t actually bad at wielding a sword until you get good at it, which explains why a lot of people are complaining about the controls. They just don’t get it.

It’s glitchy and buggy, yes, but this is literally an indie game let’s not forget. Triple A budget titles are buggy on launch too. Their reach might have been further than their grasp, but at least they had the courage and tenacity to reach. If you want another game where you run in a straight line chopping enemies in half keep looking, but if you’re bored of the same old **** and want an immersive, historically accurate, mature, adult video game, give this one a shot.

Whatever happens you have to learn from, adapt and move on.
As for the lockpicking complaints, well those are valid. It's terribly difficult to pick locks at the start. So much so that I have broken all my lockpicks and couldn't complete the "tutorial" on it. The good news is that they are already developing a patch to make this a bit easier for those of us with controllers.

Kingdom Come is an open world RPG but not one that youre used to.
Here you play as Henry, the blacksmiths boy who has a taste for adventure and combat…
Youre a noob to both and this game does a great job of making you feel just as such.
This game is set during mideval times in the holy roman empire.
Though don’t let the setting fool you, this isn’t some dorky dungeons and dragons skyrim nonsense.
Just kidding I love skyrim.. but the other bit I wasn’t kidding about
This game focuses on realism and is a much more compact adventure..
Think less skyrim and withcer and think more assassins creed meets for honor
The world is big and beautiful like your mom…
But this isn’t a world that was built to explore, it was built to look beautiful and feel real, and it does so perfectly…
The revenge story here takes about 20 hours to complete but the time you put into this games world will determine your experience with this story…
This game can be whatever you like..
You can go out, learn combat, plunder villiages for their food and ritches, go after the finest weapons and armors, or you can be noble and play this game with honor, only killing when you have to.. which the game does a great job of pushing you more towards this because of how difficult this game actually is to master… excluding this games final mission I probably only killed maybe 5 or 6 enemies my entire playthrough…
Youre not thrown into battles or dangerous situations… you have to seek them…
And seeking them isn’t all too wise, as dying in this game can mean losing hours of progress, especially if youre not sticking to the story
Sleeping in a bed you own and completing quests is the only time this game autosaves.. the rest is up to you..
And the drinks that allow you to save any time youd like are rare. Though ive heard world the developers are back petaling on this decision.
My experience was more of a im a naïve kid doing what I have to to get an important sword back that was taken from me.. and other things…
getting into trouble planning my escape when no one would let me out of the castle…, getting drunk with a priest and then having to deliver a sermon in his place in the morning
ringing some bells in the bell towers if you know what im saying,
Go on a hunting trip with spoiled royalty
I didn’t choose to go out into the world and become a warrior and this was fine…
    I wasn’t punished for this..
And playing this way made me not have to worry about this games hunger and energy mehcnaics… id fast travel to an area I know, sleep for a night and get some food from the pot in the morning and continue through the story…
though this games very final story mission will definitely require you to have decent combat knowledge and gear
Combat I found very frustrating at the beginning, which makes sense for your character, but slowly I got the hang of it, if attacking in different directions, timing my blacks, mixing up my stabs and slashes, I felt like I was a deadly dancer and I was…
enemies that used to mean im going to die turned into, you better have a nice reward on you for me to loot for you wasting my time in this forest like you are right now.
But multiple enemies will always give you trouble, again this is no skyrim.. no magic, no super powerful attacks or weapons.. its pure combat..
And as far as other gear goes you can pick it off of enemies or save up some cash to buy..
However you do have to keep your armour nice and clean, take baths everyonce in a while if you want to charm the people of this world. As how you look, smell, and act will effect how people treat you.
Theres also a leveling system in the background that allows you to build up some perks like being able to carry more items.. but again realism… youll only have the necessitites on you… the rest goes to your horse to sell later…
This was an overall really great experience however, I dealt with basically a game breaking bug for the majority of the game…
As there was a character that wouldn’t stop following.. he would knock me out of my sleeping and waiting.. it was annoying and frustrating, I would have to get on my horse wait for him to catch up to me and ride back to a bed for example to get a little sleep to get my health back, or even to talk to npcs… as he would break those interactions as well…
Easily the most annoying bug in the game, especially considering I dealt with it for 7 of this games 13 main quests…
But the most heart breaking thing about this game is that its performance on the ps4 during the final mission practically makes it unplayable..
if you try to get into the mix the game stutters and your character is thrown all over the place and if you don’t have the best gear or weapons, youre really going to need luck to get through to the credits..
It’s a shame my final tastes with this game were sour

This game is on Xbox Game Pass and had a quest associated with it to get an achievement. I saw that just completing the first quest gets you an achievement and figured I would do it. Wow, I wish I hadn't. The game doesn't explain anything. The map doesn't show you where you are. I looked up a guide just for the intro quest and even that was inaccurate. Nothing in this game feels satisfying. Lockpicking is awful. Also, if you start up the game from sleep mode instead of quitting out of the game and sitting through the world's longest initial load screen again, achievements do not unlock. I found this out too late, but fortunately soon enough to get a different achievement easily.

I understand what they where aiming for, but they could have chosen better mechanics. Slow and painful controls DO NOT constitute "realism"! Limiting the save system to a in-game item does not constitute A HARD GAME! You CANNOT translate "realism" with a 14 buttons controller. Not to mention that the PS4 version is ass. Slow, low framerate, low textures, low foliage, low distance, low everything. Feels like such a forced port, and I wouldn't mind "low everything" if the game was playing right. This game is not boring (well, it is a little), it's ANNOYING! And it's a shame, really. I loved Illusion Softworks. I actually rooted for the Czech developers, and I loved what the czech gaming companies do, and have done in the past, which adds even more to the disappointment of this game :(

Edit: What can I say... as many games with soul behind them, it grew on me once I got more into the game. The story and the way it unfolds is great. Characters grow on you, and they are well written. What can I say? It gets good in the end, but you need so much patience and time with it. Edited the score from 3 to 8.

You do not start off as a peasant, unfortunately you are a character with a mental disability. I do not know why they decided to do this, but it is not entertaining. The lockpicking is just dumb, and not one bit at all realistic. The bow and arrow system is horrendous, again leading to believe that the developers took absolutely no time to research what it's like to use a bow, which you think is quite critical. The combat system is genius, if it could be executed the way the developers imagined. But since it doesn't, it's also broken. Everything in this game screams amateur, and clearly a studio that but off more than it could handle. It's quite bad, and even embarrassing. Even if it's free, I wouldn't play this, unless you're a masochist.. Oh, yea, and the developers over the course of four years have fixed nothing. No wonder a sequel hasn't been announced Expand

The combat is lame. I get that the selling point is to be realistic but that makes it terribly boring. It's very clunky to swing your weapon and the targeting is just awful. You simply can't fight a bunch of people because you can only lock on to one guy who might be out of range while the others are pummeling you. I get that you might be too weak to fight a few enemies at once but not because it's a chore to try to hit the right target.

Game play is awful, picking an "easy" lock requires 20+ lock picks because you have to move your cursor along an invisible path at a fast speed counter clockwise. Trying to get to your next object requires constantly opening up the map and sometimes the marker only indicates where the final destination is (spent like 20 minutes looking for a shovel trying to dig up some ring before going online to find it but the map is so bad it still took some time to find when you standing at the right spot).

The story is okay but the prologue is about 2 hours long and by then my steam refund is no longer available(I just started to play the game!). The story would be much better if the intro didn't drag out for so long, it took about 1 hour just to let you experience the lame combat with some bandits.

The controls are clunky, going to sleep and getting out of bed requires 2 to 3 button presses. You can get stuck on the smallest inclines while moving around and a lot of bushes are better at keeping you out than castle walls.

The developers were so focused on fixing game bugs that they forgot to make a quality game in terms of actually playing it. I feel like the studio just went "Is this game fun? Who cares, at least it works right?"

Between the numerous bugs and and an absolutely garbage combat system, this game deserves to be thrown to the farthest depths of the Mariana trench and never retrieved. The combat resembles what it would look like if two giraffes had swords taped to their heads and told to go at it; potentially cool for the first few times, if you weren't the giraffe who was given a styrofoam sword, making it near cataclysmically infuriating. It doesn't end there however, as the lockpick mechanic was clearly never fully tested on a controller, making it next to impossible to pick even the supposed easiest of locks. Beyond that still, the ultra realism of the game is downright annoying, forcing you to eat and sleep so you never get too much done at once, it's only a step shy of telling you when you have to take a dump and forcing you to brush your teeth twice during an in-game day. The game even forces you to either sleep or use a special drink to even save your progress, ensuring that if you dare have any other commitment that might need to be addressed in a 2 hour window, you can again forget about progressing at all. The icing on the cake is really that there's no way to make the game easier and attempt to enjoy your experience, there isn't an easy mode and any exploits you might try to use have all been patched out, despite the developers not addressing the game-breaking bugs, which most certainly will leave you unable to complete a few quests. So congratulations War Horse studios, you may have gotten my $60 this time, but I will far, far more resilient to even entertaining the idea of buying into one of these pariahs that you call games. This is a true role playing game where you are playing the role of Henry, and you can play him however you want. Your actions/decisions really do dramatically affect how the world, and its people react to you.

KCD strives for realism, and hits the mark in many ways. Technical issues, and bugs detract from this at times. However in my experience they can be overlooked, and worked around without much difficulty. Hand to hand combat can be a bit janky, and clunky at first, as it should be for any novice swordsman. As you play, leveling up your melee skills you become more proficient not only by player experience but, you unlock combos that once mastered make combat much more fluid, and free flowing. Archery is great from start to end, very realistic no cross hairs, you really have to know your stuff (practice hunting animals before people) to hit things reliably.

Henry takes some time getting used to with the voice acting, and his mannerisms. I've grown used to him though. He reminds me of a 'good ol boy' of medieval times. He isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer but, gets a lot of points for effort.

I feel like the world we get to play in in KCD is probably its best feature. I challenge any game to show me a better, more realistic, forest. The forests in KCD are absolutely 10/10. I find myself hunting game a lot as I enjoy exploring, and being in the wilds. The towns, and other areas are great too, and seem spot on for how you'd envision the era to be.

So they should be very proud with what they have achieved with such little resource and staffing as compared to AAA games.
This game is by no means perfect but then what game is, the initial day one patch of 23GB shows the team were under pressure right until the end and although the game does have some bugs you can bet your top hat that they will support this game and it will continue to flourish. I have never played a game that makes me look forward to exploring the environment, the world they have re-created is absolutely breath taking, you really can lose yourself in the beauty of the world, the trees, the tiny little details that keep you in the immersion and make the whole experience work. The way the light filters through the trees its beautiful, the sound of local wildlife.
The water looks good and stumbling across a lake, with the water perfectly still and only the sun’s rays caressing the surface I had to stop and look, just to soak it all up. The way the sun rises above the hill and impairs your vision yet covering everything in a lush golden light, the foliage whips in the wind and birds take flight when you disturb their morning song as you canter past on your trusted steed. Pair this with a movie quality soundtrack and you no longer need to step outside the house but merely step into the world of KCD. Voice acting is great in places but not consistently good, I also noticed the eyes are lifeless and don’t look at you but rather look through you which takes away the immersion, as does not being able to pick up all objects, some bowls, cups etc. can’t be stolen which is a shame when you want to make some extra coin. Cut scenes are plentiful and if you’re not one to watch them you can skip them but your here for the journey right? The characters are well designed and Henry is likeable, the introduction is a good 5 hours and WarHouse really take their time in setting the scene and your place in the world.
As a blacksmiths son you really can’t do a great deal, your father is against you sword fighting so you’ve excelled in chasing girls and drinking the tavern out of beer. When the story unfolds and events play out, your left to find your own way and this is where the game opens up. This game is full of choices and every action has a reaction. Life goes on in the world regardless of what you do, if your late for a quest or decide not to turn up or you get distracted chasing butterflies then that quest continues without you, you need to manage your time and Henry, he will need feeding, washing, resting and whoring if you’re feeling generous. If you forget he will prompt although not for the last activity on that list. The minigames are tough in KCD but they are only tough because Henry is not a pickpocket by trade, nor is he a swordman or a tradesman so everything is a massive learning curve for both you and Henry, but it’s rewarding so much so that you appreciate the steep curve as the feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction far surpasses the frustration.
Lock picking is a delicate task and I feel it needs looking at on the console version. I really enjoy the freedom the game gives, you can finish a quest and then go exploring and maybe stumble upon a riddler who will give you money if you play his game, or maybe a bandit will ambush you whilst you are travelling through the woods, the world feels alive although I would like to see more wildlife, the villages could be better populated also, almost go down the AC Origins route with proper crowd interaction but it’s very early days for the Studio.
Combat was tense and again satisfying with the best fights occurring 1v1, you really have to think about your approach you can’t run in Monty Python style it will just end up in tears, it’s the only game whereby if you personally don’t learn it nor will Henry but then you don’t always have to fight either. If you good with words you can talk your way out of situations or just avoid them completely with some stealth.
One of the most interesting mechanics I enjoyed is the reading skill, as a blacksmith boy Henry can’t read, although he can look at the words he himself doesn’t understand them, as his skill progresses the words un-jumble themselves as he starts to make sense of the pages. Thus in turn allowing him to learn new potions or skills. It’s a great idea and very refreshing, the whole game feels fresh, new and exciting, push the bugs to one side, For what it is its amazing for what it will be it’s a masterpiece and a future classic.

    Another type of RPG.

Before you buy this game, be prepared this is not a RPG you are used to. In the core it is very similar to the games like Withcer or Skyrim. So Im not going to explain that it is open world, that you level up your character, complete side quests in the living worlds, that there are multiple way to compeltequests, etc... you know hot it works. TO keep this "review" short, I will describe why it is different.

Many people describe this game as realistic. I dont like this description. It is still game, it is far from realistic. It is not a medieval live simulator. So such description can be missleading. But this game is trying to be more believable.

It starts with the settings. It is describing real historical events in the real place. There are no fireballs, no dragons, no goblins, no wizards. You are not a chosen hero saving whole world from dark lord. You are common guy caught up in the bad situation. Thats it.

With this more believable settings come more believable quests. You are not asked to clear dungeon filled with dozen bandings and locating epic artifacts. Be prepared to help guards run thir daily bussiness, searching for lost horses, helping with wedding, distributing jobs,... It may sound boring, but it is well written and doing believable tasks really helps with the rolepaying aspect.

All of this takes place in believable enviromnent. It was build according real world locations (you can visit the area). And there is something really immersive about it. Technically it is not the best game world. If you compare it for example with HOrizon, the Horizon look more beutifull (in eyecandy sense) and technically is more advanced (post processing effects). But it is still procedureally generated and feel just like nice stuff randomly distributed around the place. On the oposide side is the Kingdom Come. Technically it is not perfect. But every object has been placed manually based on real world photos and it shows. Fallen branches, corroded soil, loliage around water,.. it is all placed in the patters you can find in the real world. And when you walk in the KC:D forerst you feel like in the real place. Not the videogame place.

Also be prepared this game is not as action oriented as other games. Even during war, the coutryside is not filled with bading camps, aggressive animals etc. If you walk around the road, you are basically safe. There are not so many encounters like in Skyrim or Wither. Other reason for this is that you play common guy. So fighting one enemy is fine. Fighting two is difficult. Three and more means death and you should walk around.

All these aspect may sound boring. But they lead to very immersive atmosphere of the whole game. This is a game you can really role play. This is a game that gives you the "this could really happened" experience instead of epic magic fantasy bs. For these reasons I felt closer to the Henry than to Dovahkiin, Gerald, Shepard or ony other invincible chosen ones.

All in all this is fun and interesting game. But at the moment plagued with lots of bugs. Including gamebreaking ones (you can easily loose progress because of save corrupting bugs). So my suggstion is to buy this game, but wait a month or two, before they actually finish it.

Look, I am a reasonable guy. And I started playing this knowing exactly (or close to exactly) what these guys were doing with this game. It's a "medieval walking simulation" that takes the word "simulation" as far and wide as possible.

And, yes, I see the potential. I actually enjoyed the first hours (which most of the people seem to agree it's dumb - didn't think they were). I liked Henry, I wanted to see his story and I was getting engaged by it: making him wiser, stronger, wittier and ready to be the hero of his story.

But there is simulation and there is PLAIN DUMB. And there is an abyss between those two ideas. While I enjoy the concept of a medieval game that expects me to eat, shower, learn how to read and make my way through a tough life as a survivor, this game just tests our patience to extreme levels. The frustration is just way to high and I don't think it's worth the trouble.

It gets so boring and SO frustrating to try to do something that could be so simple. For example: I know EXACTLY what I have to do, like steal some soldier clothes to avoid being noticed by guards. Ok. I know where I have to go. But then, the game forces you into a ridiculous lockpick game that you'll certainly fail many times and if you have the patience to keep loading over and over and over again (because you have no money and lockpicks costs like, I don't know, the equivalent to a car back in the day) you get through it. But no. While you are trying to deal with the lockpick bullsh*t you also have to deal with guards that pop out of NOWHERE, making that sh*tty armory look as guarded as the White House or something. What? Then you think: ok, I'll sleep so that I can try this by night but the game says you can't, because "you have no time to lose". Arrgh!

This kind of situation is a constant thing in the game, which looks fine, interesting, I actually wanted to see this through. I just don't have the patience so maybe this is just not for me.

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME. Back when I first actually finished the game, the experience at most was a 7/10 for me. This game is incredibly BROKEN, STILL. It even feels worse! Also after all this time, they couldn't be bothered to at least make sure the game performed okay on console - they haven't done jack sh** to optimize it better! The DLC supplied as well was garbage, fluff to keep the devs from working on the real issues - the game is just flat out broken at parts, with bugs that stop you from completing quests entirely. It's like the entire team forgot how to bug test after release. I got up to the big battle of the Cuman/bandit hideout and just ended up destroying my copy of the game. Just shredding it to pieces. The amount of time put in just to see enemies respawn and kill your entire team and you, probably over 20 times, just drove me insane. Literally unplayable at this point now. Stick to the PC version if you can, and avoid the console ports at all costs. Expand

The story is great. Henry is likable and fairly entertaining. The realism is great as well.

The combat is good if you are a melee and takes some skill. The bow is almost useless. Yes, the bow is realistic but this also causes bow gameplay to suffer. They should have made it stronger since they made it take so long to draw. The shots should slow enemies down more than they do. Yes, you can use poisons but again you shouldn't need to with leg shots and head shots.

The bugs and graphic issues are still inexcusable. Money bug causes you to lose all of your money (reloading old saves does not fix it). Talmberg gate bug requires you to cheese your way in and out of the city. Door locks disappear while trying to lock pick. Rain looks like minecraft rain. Peoples heads disappear. Bridges disappear. Loading a save can lock up the game. Constantly have to delete saves to keep saving (it doesn't manage this for you). Bleed can accidentally kill a quest character if punched (the quest character is not meant to be killed in this boxing quest). The list goes on.

The game has too many negatives to justify a passing score at this time. And they want more money for their next installment.

It's a good game on PC I bet. On the PS4? Not so much. Graphics are very sub-par with pop-in glitches, many crashes (combined with bad save system it means you lose progress often) and the controls and combat aren't made for consoles at all. Fast travel takes ages on consoles.

Some mechanics like pickpocketing or everyone being killable are really fun and the game gives you some hilarious unscripted moments - like when you steal side character's gear and then they rush enemies in nothing but their underwear (sorry Ulrich).
RPG elements are really weak - there isn't really anything important to decide and you can't really control how the main character behaves and responds.
Game with immense potential that wasn't executed well, at least on consoles.

One of the most realistic role playing games I've ever played.
I found the characters of this medieval story quite interesting.
Also, never has character progression been so rewarding : Henry can't align two words, mount or handle any kind of weapon ... and it's up to you to make it learn to speak, read, fight, mount ... I hope there will be a sequel. I've not encountered any bugs

Its a fantastic game. The combat is deep (but be warned: its not easy), the story and side quests are interesting and the game world is beautiful. Very immersive game.
I would have given it 10, but docked a point because of the graphical glitches. I haven't experienced any game breaking bugs, as others have complained about.

Some people complain about the difficulty and, yes, this game requires some patience to learn (highly recommend that you spend some time with the combat trainer in Rattay), but its just like any skill: it takes time to learn and even longer to master. The combat system is quite flexible and deep, but this means that you can't simply expect to pick it up and be a master. Similarly, the game tells the story of the main character, a blacksmith, not a swordsman, not a bowman. You and he learn together. This does mean that combat can be very hard at first and that's definitely not for everyone, but if you're willing to sink a little time into it, its quite rewarding and very fun. I personally have had no issue playing with a ps4 controller, as others have mentioned they had.

I was stunned by the idea of a Realistic medieval style game, and I adore the idea. In all aspects, I'm an easily pleased person. I laughed off any bugs, and I laughed off the odd animation. This game pulls off the graphics well and the storyline is enjoyable. I can't say much more than that, however. I won't be completing the game anytime soon. I'll stick to Youtube playthroughs.

This game was kind of mazochistic to play. It's slow, full of bugs and bad design ideas -- but somehow I have fond memories of it. It could have been something great, the herald of a new age in RPG, but its clunkyness make it a missed shot at greatness. It's a milestone nonetheless, and a game worth replaying and re-considering. The historical accuracy is a great idea!

Game is great, characters and quests are awesome, but huge amount of bugs even on the latest version spoils the whole experience.
The most annoying one is “Game Load Failed” which corrupts the latest save from time to time and makes you to load the older saves. It would not be a big problem if you could save at any time.
I hope developers will fix the most annoying bugs and I can

    Totally unplayable utter crap
I can't even figure what's the worst part of it:
Whether it's frustrating lockpicking system or the mess they call "archery" here? Or maybe it's the aged graphics or the dumb and soulless character or the complete lack of decision-making. Frankly, I don't know, but all of this combined make me regret every single cent spent on this sh*ty game Wouldn't play it

They’re broken, not open ended, and illogical, as well as completely inaccurate to what real people, let alone real Bohemian medieval citizens, would do, so it completely kills any sense of immersion. Many of the game’s quirks are justified on the grounds of realism, but the quests (and a lot of character actions) completely killed any immersion for me, which is a shame.

Despite the volley of issues that'll be unique to your experience, committing to the universe that Warhorse has built in Kingdom Come: Deliverance still carries an ultimately rewarding feeling. I wonder how much more I'd enjoy it if it were a little smoother (fast travel is not fast), but the atmosphere doesn't shy away from the brutality of the era, how rugged life was centuries ago as well as the omnipresence of God in their everyday lives, from conversation to action.
