I like the story, so far, 8 hours, and the graphics while not great are not a deal breaker.
The main problem so far is that the lock picking is amazingly difficult with a PS controller.
I have been stuck for three hours in a castle. The save system also sucks Wait for fixes before buying, the developer obviously did not try to play on the PS4 before selling to the public. Feels a bit

I have to give them credit for their ambition, but this project was clearly too big for them to manage. If they had taken the parts that worked and made a more consistent, streamlined game that you could actually play, it would have been much better than this heaping mess we're stuck with. If a game forces you to hate your character or makes you wonder why the hell your character is acting like he does then it's not an RPG. It's an adventure game with a leveling system and items. For example: You are forced to act like a bootlicker trying to bring the sword back to the noble. I don't give a rat's bottom about the noble's sword. You are then forced to join the garrison of this noble to be trained (I don't want to join the garrison). You are taunted by another noble for being useless during training and you are forced to call that noble "spoon-fed" (what the hell game, you are choosing what I say now?) and then you are forced to enter a hard to win competition with him which due to the lack of a save system means that if you want at least to feel a bit good about yourself getting into such a gigantic mess by winning the competition, you'll have to load from the start of the day or the start of the bow training if you waste an expensive instant save item. With the exception of the taunting which is out of the control of my character, everything else are things that I do not want my character to do, and that I hate my character for doing. This, is, an adventure, game.

**** The battle system: An unpredictable mess. I like the "six positions" but man did they overcomplicate things. Faints, blocks, dodges... Too much work. But it's ok, if the rest of the game wasn't horrible I would probably feel like investing the time to learn the battle system. I've seen worse.

**** The save system: Well it doesn't really exist, does it??? Make one mistake and basically redo the last day. It's a single player game, give us an option to play in easy mode or whatever where us normal noobs can save whenever we want. Accidents happen more often in games than in real life, which is why we need a save system. Also, half the fun in computer RPG games is enacting "what if" scenarios without having to live with the consequences. How many times how you acted like a moron in Skyrim or in Fallout just to see what would happen? Yeah... Forget that here!!

If you want to play a hard and annoying adventure game following the story of a moron in medieval times, this is the game for you. If you actually want to have fun role-playing your own way, don't touch this.

I gave up and started the main story which ended up with me having to put my controller down after a couple of hours being frustrated beyond measure. The lock on, the FPS, the combat is a nightmare, im suddenly dying and unable to block or attack for seconds!. The game is, in my opinion, not playable on the PS4, even though i am dying to play it.

Currently i cannot progress past the very first quest of the game because of a bug that wont allow me to talk to a npc. I am now stuck in the starting area, a tiny little town and cannot progress any further. This is what i call a game breaking bug.

Once you get to explore the map, it’s all about boring conversations with dull characters, dull questing (very dull side quests), trekking to a quest marker for several minutes while watching posters on your wall because the graphics and the environment are so harsh on PS4. Traveling by foot stamina consumption is a joke, on horse it’s bit faster, until you find an insurmountable tree trunk, or bushes.

There is realism for sure, but all in the wrong places; seemingly adult Henry needs to be fed and slept far too often, hints for items appear only when you’re close enough (it is fun to lick every corner of every house you come across). Battle system may be somewhat realistic, but the feel of it is more like a bum fight. Perks are irrational, you can teach Henry to consume less food and such.. Right there realism goes though the window.
Menu system is really non-user friendly. Inhibited saving is a joke also (no wonder a save mod was made within the first week of release for PC) And lockpicking on PS4 controller, really..

Firewatch on PS store offers you better plot, price and gameplay, if you want a walking simulator.

This negative review is not to scorn Warhorse Studios by any way, I only wanted to write an honest criticism of an overpriced product which in my opinion should have been 20 euro on PS store.
I specifically avoid to compare this title to any preceding games, which may have set the standards too high. Kingdom Come pretty much made me wary to pre-order any full-priced first releases from unknown developers. If they believe in their game, give us PS4 users a demo first.

Even the simplest basic stuff is so annoying difficult, like lock picking. After some hours trying to unlock even one "very easy" chest, I gave up. Games should be challenging, not unplayable.

The story is full of cliché with endless and often pointless talking during cutscenes, graphics is fine but with glitches and the loading times are very long. On top of that there are tons of bugs - some of them not fixed even two years after the release as this game is such a mess that it is not fixable.

In theory it's cool but in practice all you do is cheese the AI because trying to fight anyone "legit" will just end up with you needing to use 7 expensive bandages to clog your wounds before you bleed out. I'm down with realism but at a certain point there needs to be ways to fight at least SOME of the enemies early game and stand a chance without being cheesy to the AI.

Every single mechanic in this game is unfun. Lockpicking? Oh here break a million expensive locks trying to pick an "easy" lock. Oh you broke a lock and someone is remotely in the vicinity? GUAAARDS! Hope you spent half your gold to stock up on a few "save your game" potions. Hope those save your game potions didn't make you too drunk to pick the lock. And even if you did all those, since you will break that lock 99% of the time, spend the next two hours of your life having zero fun while you reload your save and it takes 60 seconds each time.

Oh you like alchemy? Here's the instruction book that you can't read, it gives you ingredients but no actual instructions on what the **** else you need to do to. Now watch as you spend several minutes going through the asinine and overly complicated process they force you to go through just to fail making the potion anyway. Time to google how to do it since the game is crap at explaining it, because constantly having to google things in games is FUN aint it!?

You'll be doing a lot of googling while playing this game because NOTHING in this game is explained or makes sense. For instance you go out and hunt an animal and take the meat. Oh the meat counts as stolen and you lose respect w/ the trader because you tried to sell the meat you just hunted? THAT SURE MAKES SENSE DOESN'T IT!? Then you google it and find out it's because apparently all land in the game belongs to some noble and they can magically tell which meat you hunted and consider it stolen if you hunted it on their grounds. What great design! Truly a masterpiece of our generation!

In short the game is just not very fun to play at all. And yes, after a while things become easier, but not because you learn their **** mechanics or anything like that. Nope, it's just because in true poorly designed modern rpg fashion you eventually spend the resources to level your skills up and you get "perks" that make the mechanics function like they should have all along (auto brew potions, lockpicks don't break as easily, etc.)

This game is 100% frustration and disappointment. The only positive thing I can really say about the game is the setting is unique and they do a good job of trying to make it historically accurate and are minimal on the fantasy elements which is a slight breath of fresh air. But it just blows my mind how bad most the mechanics are in the game. I didn't go over all of them but trust me every single one is not just bad, but god awful and horrible in fact. Archery for example is a complete joke. I would never recommend getting this game unless they patch all of this dumb crap. Especially don't get the ps4 version as it has zero options as far as tweaking your settings (which blows my mind because in the PC version you actually can control sensitivity)

What a shame, really wanted to like this game as without the magic that all other games use, made this game seam more appealing. They got the idea right, the story is good enough and a big world to lose yourself in, BUT There are far to many bad points.

Also I feel that this is made for the more experienced RPG type of player, I never play RPG normally but this type of game and story appealed to me. But for me the tutorial offers me very little as to what is ahead. I think it could have been implemented so much better to attract more people to the genre.
To summarise, great ideas but poorly implemented.

I have poured in just over 35 hours into K.C.D and I have never endured such a throbbing headache from a game so frustrating as this. On my PS4Pro, the visuals are blurry in the homescreen! The homescreen! Nothing renders good at all until I'm two feet away and once its clear it looks like something from 2010. The world is dull and seems empty except within townships, horseplay is dreadful, archery is down right broken and swordplay... I am not even going to comment on the swordplay. For the time I spent in combat no matter how many times I encouraged myself to try again, train in the training ground, get used to the controls, I just could not get over the learning curve. Maybe I just suck at this game, and maybe also if the game wasn't so awful to look at sometimes and somewhat boring besides the story itself which is not bad, I might be able to keep trying.

Ok so good things are the characters seem interesting enough, I certainly want to know what happens with Henry. The music is very nice and the sounds are wonderful in the wild. I applaud the devs effort, I appreciate their vision and the depth of this rpg. I hope they make some fixes patch this up and make it playable for me and those who feel the same way I do. I believe they are onto something here but current state of the game is simply not ready. A shame.

Wow, I wish I hadn't. The game doesn't explain anything. The map doesn't show you where you are. I looked up a guide just for the intro quest and even that was inaccurate. Nothing in this game feels satisfying. Lockpicking is awful. Also, if you start up the game from sleep mode instead of quitting out of the game and sitting through the world's longest initial load screen again, achievements do not unlock. I found this out too late, but fortunately soon enough to get a different achievement easily.

You do not start off as a peasant, unfortunately you are a character with a mental disability. I do not know why they decided to do this, but it is not entertaining. The lockpicking is just dumb, and not one bit at all realistic. The bow and arrow system is horrendous, again leading to believe that the developers took absolutely no time to research what it's like to use a bow, which you think is quite critical. The combat system is genius, if it could be executed the way the developers imagined. But since it doesn't, it's also broken. Everything in this game screams amateur, and clearly a studio that but off more than it could handle. It's quite bad, and even embarrassing. That is how much I despise this game. Between the numerous bugs and and an absolutely garbage combat system, this game deserves to be thrown to the farthest depths of the Mariana trench and never retrieved. The combat resembles what it would look like if two giraffes had swords taped to their heads and told to go at it; potentially cool for the first few times, if you weren't the giraffe who was given a styrofoam sword, making it near cataclysmically infuriating. It doesn't end there however, as the lockpick mechanic was clearly never fully tested on a controller, making it next to impossible to pick even the supposed easiest of locks. Beyond that still, the ultra realism of the game is downright annoying, forcing you to eat and sleep so you never get too much done at once, it's only a step shy of telling you when you have to take a dump and forcing you to brush your teeth twice during an in-game day. The game even forces you to either sleep or use a special drink to even save your progress, ensuring that if you dare have any other commitment that might need to be addressed in a 2 hour window, you can again forget about progressing at all. The icing on the cake is really that there's no way to make the game easier and attempt to enjoy your experience, there isn't an easy mode and any exploits you might try to use have all been patched out, despite the developers not addressing the game-breaking bugs, which most certainly will leave you unable to complete a few quests. So congratulations War Horse studios, you may have gotten my $60 this time, but I will far, far more resilient to even entertaining the idea of buying into one of these pariahs that you call games. I have no problem with a game being hard to beat or play in order to promote REALISM but not like this. Playing Kingdom Come is like you are playing an NPC is a real RPG somewhere else. Also after all this time, they couldn't be bothered to at least make sure the game performed okay on console - they haven't done jack sh** to optimize it better! The DLC supplied as well was garbage, fluff to keep the devs from working on the real issues - the game is just flat out broken at parts, with bugs that stop you from completing quests entirely. It's like the entire team forgot how to bug test after release. I got up to the big battle of the Cuman/bandit hideout and just ended up destroying my copy of the game. Just shredding it to pieces. The amount of time put in just to see enemies respawn and kill your entire team and you, probably over 20 times, just drove me insane. Literally unplayable at this point now. Quest outcomes and reactions of NPCs vary illogically based on your inputs and sometimes based on bugs. They’re broken, not open ended, and illogical, as well as completely inaccurate to what real people, let alone real Bohemian medieval citizens, would do, so it completely kills any sense of immersion. Many of the game’s quirks are justified on the grounds of realism, but the quests (and a lot of character actions) completely killed any immersion for me, which is a shame.

Only posting because I expected issues like this and the PS4 launch bugs to be solved as of June 2020 based on other reviews here. They are not.

Ain't that great? Uhm...No. Besides the fact he can't fight, running is the way to go. Henry the chicken.. Than after 4-5 hours you get more training in swordfighting. You would think the game would get better as you level up your skills. Unfortunately, every encounter feels the same. You might have better weapons, but it never gets easy, especially shooting arrows. During the game, everywhere you go a reticule is on screen. When you aim your bow, the reticule is gone. Who thought that was a good idea? Anyway, it's pretty obvious this game was made for die hard PC players with big rigs to play. On PS4 framedrops are frequent and loadtimes are pathetically long. I can only recommend this game to expert RPG simulation players, because if you don't master the combat you're basically toast. Expand

so bad and terrible fighting I have not seen anywhere. in a battle with three or God forbid four opponents, only luck will help you. plus wild imbalance and ease of finding the best equipment in the game make it wildly not playable and idiotic. my advice to you do not buy this piece of **** save both nerves and money

Current version is simply unplayable. As an experienced avid player this game gives an outright unfriendly introduction and it gets worse. Not only is it impossible to fight but the game throws you straight into impossible situations during the introduction. Played 3 hours before I removed the game.

This game is horrible. They took an interesting concept and stacked it with horrible game mechanics. If anything good came out of this game it is that they have clearly demonstrated how NOT TO creat game play mechanics. The fighting sucks and the main character is some one you would want to punch in the face.

The game looks beautiful and the characters are very interesting. But Kingdom Come Deliverance's realism takes the fun out of the game. The lockpicking is impossible, the tasks are mind numbing, and the combat is somewhat good but an eyesore and very frustrating. Warhorse needs to work out their problems for this game on console, otherwise it's a dead game

How realistic can be talking to a motionless person’s face, while half of his head is stuck in a wall? The story is not compelling at all, the combat is incredibly dumb and not realistic at all, since the auto-lock feature makes it impossible either to run or fight properly, it feels unresponsive, robotic, you can only do 2 attacks, the “combos” are non-existent. The impossibility to custom the HUD is also a major issue of the game, the yellow dot at the center of the screen is so goddamn annoying (and useless, too). The graphics are beyond horrible, not even Oblivion has such unpolished textures, and that’s the tip of the iceberg. Character design is very superficial, 90% of the people in the villages are just stupid NPC’s who you cannot even talk to. You call this realism? This is not even good for fiction. How can this overhyped unfinished game be on the PSN store? The PC version has, at least, a modding community that makes the experience playable.
Honestly, I wouldn’t want to give this game for free to anyone. Do not waste your time on this if you have a console, search for something else.

Pro's: A unique map style, (presumably) accurate historical facts, above functional voice acting, and a collection of gear fits the medieval theme. Con's: the first half of the game (arguably more) is only difficult because it is tedious. Most skills are locked out completely. Even when unlocked, some skills are excruciatingly tedious to level up (i.e., lock picking and archery). Con's: the first half of the game (arguably more) is only difficult because it is tedious. Most skills are locked out completely. Even when unlocked, some skills are excruciatingly tedious to level up (i.e., lock picking and archery). Real life archery was not as difficult as this game made it out to be. Any graphical attraction is overtaken by the numerous errors in loading, crashing, and T-poses. These are common occurrence. The save system could be interesting. However, the game crashes without being able to save regularly, without a lengthy (albeit enjoyable) process. Whoever made this game failed to test it beyond a few seconds because some game components sound beneficial but are taken too far. For instance, people can be aware of stealing according to noise. They will call out, “What was that?” This would not continually loop because NPC's go to investigate, and they will interrupt the activity with dialogue. That would have been fine, except it can happen with your own home’s chest. It’s not hard to find either because it’s at the beginning of the Tame, and such function, prevents you from saving during some missions. Last, traveling outside of a fast travel feels like going through a hallway with shrubbery that acts as fences to force the use winding roads, which gives the option of slow trot or medieval bumper cars (i.e., running into the environment). Quite possibly the worst combat system in years. This one has three strengths from the protagonist at the beginning to only takes damage for an extremely particularly timed counter. That means a quarter of the enemies will give an unstoppable attack by merely attempting to attack first. They are waiting to counter leads to another tedious experience because these combatants attack far less than any others. It has taken a ridiculous amount of time to have the opportunity to attempt a counter finally. Even then, they take a significantly reduced amount of damage, so this ordeal becomes a chore. More difficult enemies taunt you with their superior ability to use combos when you cannot (i.e., only a perfect counter)!

Multiple enemies will try to swarm from all directions. The game offers no means to counter this, so it’s either fight the combat system to change targets (excruciating) or utilize the only player strength of jumping to navigate the terrain. My suggestion to any considering this game would be to only get it on PC and mod it.

Get the Royal Edition at PSN store winter sale, and after 10+ hours into the game, my patience is completely exhausted. I don't know how historically accurate it is, but as a game, it's really terrible.

    * The loading time is pathetically long.

    * The graphic is not a deal-breaker, but far from "gorgeous" for 2018's standard.

    * The interaction control is basically broken when playing with a console controller. It's a nightmare when you want to pick up something small or something put in the middle of a large table. In other console games, this can be easily solved by letting user interact with the table/cabin instead. But KC:D insist that you can only interact with these tiny things on a larger surface using that miserable yellow dot in the center of screen.

    * Gathering herb is also clunky due to the above reason. I don't have even once pick up a sage or dandelion without moving using left stick for 30 seconds and finally get it done by pointing that yellow dot half-a-meter away from the plants.

    * The view angle is weird and give me mild motion sickness while turning around or walking in narrow paths. I've never had motion sickness in first-person view games before. The developer team just forgot that people are sitting meters away from the TV when they're playing on console, and we need different rendering settings of view angle.

    * The control button mapping is unforgiving and there is no way to remap it. Who on earth would think square button means "Jump" would be a good idea ?

    * The AI and action script of NPCs are coded like they're directly ported from some pre-2010 PS3-era games.

    * The combat control is so clunky like I was playing MMO games with extremely high ping.

    * I didn't run into game breaking bug yet but already found a bunch of glitches everywhere in just few hours of game play.

    * The archery is unnecessarily difficult. It doesn't matter how the protagonist can do after leveling up, but you just can't remove all the aiming support in a video game. In real world we can estimate the distance between ourselves and the target because we have two eyes, and we have stereoscopic sense. There is no way to do so in video game, since the only information you can get from 2D rendered pixels is the scale.

    * This may have been mentioned by someone else: where are all the crossbows ? In real world mediaeval era, crossbows superseded bows in all Europe armies since 12th century, except England. It's not about how "cheese" the protagonist can be with a crossbow; it's about historical correctness.

    * The lock-picking mini game is simply punishing players who play this game on console.

    * Many of the disadvantages mentioned above can be mitigated if this game offers a "normal" Save & Load approach. But you just don't have it.

Just avoid playing this game on console. Buy PC version instead if you're interested in this medieval life simulator. At least you can have mods that make some of those tedious issues barely tolerable.

This game runs like a pinto. Cannot even do the first quest because the screen tearing is bad on ps5. These devs should be forced to update the game to handle the terrible FPS dropping so people can at least play the game without feeling nauseous just from the poor performance.

To start the game is a buggy mess to the point bethesda games look borderline perfect, bugs, crashes, systems clearly not working with each other in general, you will spend more time staring at loading screens then anything else.

Systems are poorly designed and outright unbelievable at times. Lets start with lockpicking, which is designed to be omnidextrious on consoles which 90% of people are not, but it becomes managable with perks yet the opening area has only 1 easiest lockpick and 4 lockpicks max, it is easibly the most frustrating experience of my life. That is till the combat which is designed for duels yet forces group combat, the second there is more then one opponent the games falls apart and even when you do win enemies will magically revive or will gain massive damage boosts where 1 combo will nearly kill me in full plate. Combos dont register, blocks and dodges teleport you all over, and anytime you are not on flat ground the game goes crazy and randomly registers or not, whatever really as it completely crashes. The crime system is a joke, guards have a sixth sense and will cross the town to find you, npcs see through walls, pickpocketing is tied to rng causing instafails, and most damning of all you will get bounties and rep changes that dont actually appear until you load the game so you will frequently spend hrs doing something only to load the game and find yourself hated with a long jail sentance and too top it off there is no feedback on what you got bounties for so prepare to randomly get bounties while just talking to someone or sleeping.

What has put me on to writing this is that at this time ps4 has been waiting for a patch for almost a month since pc and they are now selling dlc for this broken game, DO NOT SUPPORT THIS BS!!!£

KC:D is a very ambitious, buggy, poor-executed slog. It's like the Gothic series in a realistic medieval setting without the fun, and with many complicated obtuse game systems tacked on in a messy casserole. There are an enormous number of quests in KC:D, many of which are buggy exercises in frustration with unclear instructions. The writing is dull and workmanlike. To accomplish anything seems to involves a tedious minigame. It is quirky, frustrating, and oddly addicting at times.

Kingdom Comes harkens back to old-school RPGs that don't hold your hand. The scope of the game is quite large, but it is lacking some essential quality, and fails to balance the tight-rope between fun and tedium, more often than not falling into the latter.

A example of this is a quest named "In God's Hands," which is one of the most terribly designed quests I've ever experienced. You have to save a variety of patients in a hospital ward. It's a timed quest as people start dying if you take too long. It involves running back and forth to many cities with unclear instructions. In the middle of this quest is embedded another quest named "Man of the Cloth" that requires running back and forth to distant cities in fetch it quest style, and is so bugged that it cannot be completed unless you look up threads online. It almost can't be done if you don't use a guide.

Another example is how broken the "realistic" combat is. You can choose to stab or swing from 5 different attack angles, block, dodge, parry, yet it's basically impossible to unlock from a target to run away because you automatically relock after a second. The game could have greatly benefitted from someone in the room saying, "Wait, this part is lame, broken, and unfun. We should fix it or take it out"

By the time of the epilogue, I was skipping cutscenes because I wanted it to end and didn't care anymore about the trite politics behind the story, and didn't think I could stand more buggy gameplay. That's when I encountered a showstopper bug in the way of not being able to talk to Hans Capon to end the game. I had to finish his DLC first. That was a truly disheartening moment.

Despite the volley of issues that'll be unique to your experience, committing to the universe that Warhorse has built in Kingdom Come: Deliverance still carries an ultimately rewarding feeling. I wonder how much more I'd enjoy it if it were a little smoother (fast travel is not fast), but the atmosphere doesn't shy away from the brutality of the era, how rugged life was centuries ago as well as the omnipresence of God in their everyday lives, from conversation to action.
