Honestly I had no idea what was going on with the main storyline. Playing Just Cause 3 I had high hopes for this game and gave this one a shot and was highly disappointed. Game was extremely laggy and glitchy for me on the PS4. Was flying around more than blowing things up in this one and was constantly getting fired at in every direction. Not worth full the full price.

The story is so boring and you don't even wanna know anything about it. Graphics are so bad specially in cutscenes. The UI is so confusing at the beginning. Driving is not good. That is a bad game.

Want to get into the "rebellion"? Sure you do. After a story and plot development, a high schooler could plan better, you're gonna feel jazzed to skip through cutscenes from the start. Now bring on the fking tedium. You want bang bangs and destruction but also want a sense of accomplishment like youre doing something right?

This brings you to territory mode. Most of the territory you have to unlock by doing a mandatory Fk you base capture; some you can unlock just by destroying a lot of crap and manually selecting - no prob with that. But thats only 10% of them. Most you gotta manually travel all over the map for and do some stupid base nonsense for. Sure, game still has helicopters right? Guess what: Devs figured out you like the helicopters of the last game, so forget that. They have been retarded to all hell, making them as useful as belly button lint against a house fire. Youre going to be traveling with the equivalency of a donkey as you do one of 4 things, slowly "flying" around with your stupid grappling hook and retro 70's wingsuit across each base about 30 times if you plan to complete this cluster fk of a game. You are guaranteed to that ever base you will be doing a combination of these 4 Id-rather-being-getting-my-teeth-cleaned chores: 1. hack a sparse collection of consoles for no damn reason, 2. drive car bombs into water for no damn reason, 3. blow up a collection of generators/bullsh*t for no damn reason ( which a helicopter with missle launchers and machine guns cant do cause your lame-ass grappling hook has to remove a piece of tinfoil that's protecting them) or 4. spend 10 minutes zipping around with your dumb, stupid grappling hooked and wingsuit to find a special model suxk-a-who crap vehicle that opens the magical special door that allows you to do one of options 1-3 FOR NO DAMN REASON. Best is when you have a base that puts all 4 of these repetitive retard activities together so you can waste 1 hour on this crap, just for 1 stupid base that does nothing more than unlock a car/gun/color parachute you couldn't give a fk less about. But hey, thats the only way you can feel like you've achieved something and progress in the special-ed narrative of this nonsense backstory.

    Sounds like fun dont it?

Screw the devs for fking up a simple concept that worked. Wait to catch this in the bargain bin, or just stick with JC3.

everything but the wingsuit in this game is worse than previous titles. Graphics, AI, gunplay, driving, flying..etc etc..SMFH. Glad I had gamepass and didn't pay for this crap. Enemy respawning is worse than ever, you clear an entire area right in fron of you, turn around and they're all back, sniping and using RPGS from all directions...like WTF??

Let me just tell you this is NOT a Just Cause game. The earlier games were based off of more realistic weapons and such... thats why i enjoyed the game but then you add these weapons and rocket suits... stupid.... instead of just cause they should call it just stupid. story was also crap. played for about an hour and i was shocked to see how far this game fell.

The game offers very mundane and repetitive tasks which you have to complete in order to unlock story missions, which in themselves are not so impressive. The only fun element that you get out of the game is manoeuvrability. The wing suit gliding mechanic is fun to use, coupling with the grapple hook, offers some excitement in the game. The big USP that of tornadoes in the game, loses its charm in like the first tornado you encounter. The combat mechanics are okay at best. There are no grenades as far as I played, or if there are grenades in your arsenal, they may come at time when you are so severely bored with the game that you might have stopped playing by then. The alternate mode of your guns was a nice touch and offers some variety in you arsenal. All in all, the game fails to hook you enough to play through even half of the game. You might enjoy the first few hours of the game after which you will probably never have the urge to pick up the controller again for this game. Expand

So repetitive. No mission variety just blow this up and this and then go blow that up too. Why? Who knows. I played this on my PS4 Pro and it's awful to look at on a 50" 4k tv. When in any air vehicle above any height the ground and everything on it is so blurry, I had almost no idea what I was even aiming at. Tldr,
    Graphical quality is awful.

Okay. First off - We are 3+ months after release - and no DLC.

Two: The update 1.05 seems to have broken the game. I purchased the Gold Edition of the game - which came with the Deluxe Digital Content - specifically an upgrade to the wingsuit that includes jets and missiles.

After the update? No jets or missiles. Software is there. Properties I PAID GOOD MONEY FOR - gone.

It's not Ghost Recon Wildlands level but then, Wildlands was intending to be realistic. The grappling hook has always been a favorite of mine in the Just Cause series and it gets a lot of extras in this game. Going back to the graphics, the best takeaway is that the load times are nearly non-existent most likely thanks to the lower graphics than PS4 owners are used to seeing on their console. (Full disclosure: I only buy download games from the PlayStation Store not disc-based. Still, after cut scenes and after areas are cleared... it shows a load screen and the bar doesn't even begin to fill when it pops up with Rico ready to go again.) I gave it a 9 out of 10 with the only knock against it being its ok graphics. It's definitely worth playing though... a fun and massive game that doesn't take itself too seriously. Expand

It took me a while to get into JC2 but ended up loving it. Was eager for the follow up and wasn't disappointed by JC3 as it improved the previous installment in every way. So I had been looking forward to this forth installment since I heard about it. However I was so disappointed after playing and ended up making notes of my thoughts as I played through:

    The Opening
    -------------------
JC3 - Lovely cinematic movie introducing the main characters. Riding on the back of a plane with a rocket launcher; over the top and fun (what you expect)
JC4 - Gentle walk through some snow (seriously?)

    Weapons
    -------------
JC4 - Removed the C4 and Grenades and replaced with a terrible 2 gun swap system & upgrades to the grapple; possibly okay if you're just going around aimlessly to have fun, but useless and not really required during the game. It's also complicated to switch between and remember what each one does during play. Also due to the stupid weapons system you end up constantly looking around for damn ammunition

    Map
    -------
    JC3 - Full of villages/different military base types/collectibles/etc.
JC4 - One big Black Hand base per area and very little else

    Game Progress & Design
    -------------------------------------
JC3 - Liberating lots of smaller locations; each with items that needed to be located and destroyed; fun and gave you a sense of progress & accomplishment
JC4 - Nothing; technically majority of the missions can be completed without blowing stuff up and just activating a few consoles; as no real record of progress for destroying stuff it feels very flat and pointless. When you do go to destroy something half the time it seems to be surrounded by those on your own side, which again makes it feel flat and pointless in doing so

JC3 - Lots of extra tasks to complete; i.e. collecting audio tapes that built on the background story, points on the map to find. Those I didn't much like (the wing-suit and flying challenges) could be skipped as there was so much else to do and these weren't an integral part of the game (although the ground races were fun)
JC4 - Nothing much to do on the map (apart from the main bases) and some stupid 'making a film' set off side tasks that mirror the wing-suit and flying challenges.

JC3 - With the garage mechanic you had a reason to explore the map for new vehicles and take them to the garage; again a sense of progress and discovery / collection
JC4 - Absolutely no reason to go looking for cars as no real challenge relating to them (apart from needing specific vehicles for the Movie sub-plot, all of which seem to be sitting conveniently next to the task). Might as well order up a helicopter or use the wing suit to get around. No real incentive to explore the ground / main map areas

JC3 - Well designed map and game interface
JC4 - Atrocious mix of menus and key presses were constantly going into the wrong menu section and even when in them just seemed thrown together and generally an ill thoughtout mess

    Longevity
    --------------
JC3 - Even after completing the main story-line I still wanted to go back and finish the other elements, ie. find more of the vehicles, make sure all audiotapes and collectibles had been found. Eager to pay for and download the additional DLC packs for more fun
JC4 - Struggled to keep playing after a couple of sessions as it felt like a massive downgrade on the gameplay and quite frankly f***ing lazy design

Since making these notes I have downloaded and installed two patches and tried to go back to the game, but just leaves me cold and incredibly disappointed.

You can see what the developers learned from the shortcomings of the previous game (less grind and easier to complete), but to release a game that's not finished is a slap on the face. The graphics are horribile, with the cutscenes striking out as the most horribile. What the hell, SqEnix??

Its not a bad game, hardly worthy of a score lower than 5 however a few more tweaks to the gameplay to iron out some bugs will be helpful. You will see nothing new here in this game but its still fun to play. All things being said I preferred the layout of the missions and settlement control that were in Just Cause 3.

Stupid missions (including missions with a time counter), still bad shooting and transport physics, graphics have become a little worse than the JS3, and an absolutely stupid gameplay concept – collecting army.

Of the advantages, physics of objects has become a little better.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's bad, the explosions look worse, the missions are boring and repetitive (even more than the third), the new squad system is terrible, half the vehicles are re-used from Just Cause 3, the villains are both lame (Espinosa and Gabriella), whereas the third bothered with a paragraph of description for each location to have a bit of lore and fun this one at best bothers with two sentences, aiming feels horrible and they somehow managed to make the vehicles even less drivable as now I can't roll for one kilometer without crashing and if I try to turn I end drifting like a maniac. They also added two things I hated about the third: time limits which are infuriating and having to spend ten seconds hacking in the middle of a battlefield with grenades, snipers and soldiers everywhere. And lastly the AI is braindead and during a certain mission Luis will just drive off a bridge instead of forward and because of that I cannot finish this mission. Oh at the time of writing this I found something else, in Just Cause 3 you could bring a vehicle to a garage to unlock it well now you have to move into these terrible regions to get a specific vehicle which means if it's at the other end of the map well you're in for a while. Oh wait it gets worse: they took out one of my favorite aspects of Just Cause 3, bridge destructibility, I have played the game for three days straight and I haven't found a single bridge I could destroy and there are these stupid challenges where you have to go through a ring with a vehicle that is in front of you, just why? And I love how they tried having diversity with a few biomes but even in each of these biomes every town looks the same (even more than Just Cause 3), every town I found in the desert was literally the same. They also promoted the tornado in the trailers but it is really rare and I have only found it once and it lasted for two minutes. As for Oscar Espinosa's death scene here was my reaction: What a lame ending... His plane just explodes? That's it? I thought he would fall off a cliff or something. Another kick in the balls by this awful game. Hitman 2's graphics and story were a downgrade but at least IO tried and I can respect them for it, Square Enix however just said it's Just Cause, people will buy it and shipped a broken product. Also IO got dumped by Square Enix so I can understand whereas here Square Enix is big enough to make a good game regardless. Expand
