I wish I could give this game a higher score but the graphics and frame rates are so bad it ruins it. I cant believe they released it in such bad shape. I truly hope they release a patch to fix these issues cause I can see this game being a blast as Im having fun with it as it is now,but without it being fixed its just not worth the $60 price tag, buyer beware.

This game is as reptitive as the other, fill to the brink with defend this NPc, or defend this place while they throw all their army at you! Story is as forgetable as before. Also, this game was rushed as there is alot of technical glitches and the game doesn't as great as before, especially the water, which is one of the worst I've ever seen. I can't recommend this game unless you love the other games to death, and if you're new to the series, start by 2 or 3 instead, you'll have more fun. Expand

One side taking the scores to even a 10 with beautifully written reviews, YouTubers praising the game as none other, the other side angrilly stomping the game to the ground, calling it trash, etc. And you know what? Both are right and wrong at the same time.

If you are a fan of the Just Cause series you will definitely enjoy gameplay on the fourth game installment. Some tweaks made to your equipment and weapons add a lot of fun and possibilities to wreck havoc in Solis. Flying with the wingsuit never felt better, tethering works as it should. While having fun in the game you can definitely feel the vibe that the previous Just Cause games have had.

Those were the good sides of the game. If the score relied only on gameplay and mechanics it would have easily grabbed 9s and 10s along the way. Unfortunately, Just Cause 4 is like a beautiful creature hidden in an ugly and deformed body. LOTS of textures are of poor quality, many of them load just before you reach them and during my playtime never I had a feeling that there's any Anti-Aliasing in place. Distant objects looks pixelated, not to mention the tornado which was advertised so widely... It's truly a shame that the wonderful land of Solis is for most of the times on a lower graphical level then Medici, it's predecessor. Don't get fooled by the wonderful looking clips on the web which obviously relate to a high-set PC version of the game.

Other flaws? Solis, although vast and diverse, offers little to do. The land liberation system has been reduced to a minimum - winning one battle and advancing your rebel troops, that's it. Not to mention that most of the missions in the game are very similar - obtain some data and then survive a wave of enemies. Stunts have been simplified in a hard way but this, from what I hear, is being received both positively and negatively. Enemy AI is very limited and quite you can accomplish missions without even being shot at.

Coming to a close I would like to add another positive aspect which is the sound - both the music and sound effects are at a very nice level, you can now listen to some radio while driving a car (which is still a total pain but I promised this part would be a positive one).

If I had a high quality PC I would probably give Just Cause two extra points but there are some aspects where not even an awesome graphic card will help. I feel that the game has been released in a rush and at some point the developers have ran out of ideas.
With all the backlash the game is receiving and the suspicion of promoting tweets and reviews of users which have presumably been paid to praise the game, I am disappointed that Avalanche is sitting there quietly.
I hope the game will receive proper patches so that the Just Cause series will not be a Lost Cause series.

The good: Who doesn’t like blowing things up? The explosions look great in this title. The new grappling hook add ons are interesting. Some of the character dialogue can be lighthearted and funny. I appreciated how easy it is to get around the map, and loading times are way down compared to previous entries. Messing around with the new weather system is fun. I love the radio, normally something I love in games. Great selection of tunes.

The bad: This is a game that looks great from afar, but once you look at the textures, yikes. Some of them are awful. The skybox often jitters and disorients me. Flying in a plane looks like playing GTA San Andreas era graphics. Liberating towns is gone, replaced by moving your frontline forward. This can get pretty boring. There’s no incentive to blow anything up other than to get a notification that you’ve caused enough chaos for a new squad or two. As such, exploring towns and cities is essentially pointless. You can just fly around military bases and complete the objective as fast as possible because there is no requirement of destroying enough equipment to liberate. Missions to liberate regions are boring and repetitive. They are the same over and over, and I got sick of them fast. There’s a horrible timed mission that repeats several times in different locations that made me so frustrated, I went to play another game until I cooled down. Cars have been mostly recycled from JC3, so much so that I wondered if I was playing the correct game. Driving itself is a floaty, weird affair that can sail you across a whole field when you least want it. Tanks handle like they’re on giant wet bars of soap, and planes can be really unresponsive in turning.

In conclusion: As an avid player of the previous games in this series, I was disappointed. Several steps back were taken here. While this game shines when it comes to blowing up giant piles of fuel tanks and tethering cars to balloons, that’s about all it does really well. I would advise waiting for a price drop if you are interested in this game. This game is a perfectly average affair. Perhaps making it more unforgivable on the back of Red Dead 2, and Horizon Zero Dawn’s open world masterpieces. It is not worth $60. Please get your act together for the next game, if there is one.

Its not a bad game, hardly worthy of a score lower than 5 however a few more tweaks to the gameplay to iron out some bugs will be helpful. You will see nothing new here in this game but its still fun to play. All things being said I preferred the layout of the missions and settlement control that were in Just Cause 3.

Soldiers open fire on you and you tether two of them to balloons, sending them to their airborne fate. You mow down the rest with your trusty machine gun, since they are not dangerous enough to warrant unleashing one of your precious drones. The tank you shot explodes, and the shockwave makes a nearby missile launcher go crazy and discharge all of its missiles randomly. Things start to blow up, with explosive barrels adding to the mayhem. You tether to a building's wall and launch into the air, while all around you the world seems to erupt in flames. Your trusty, self-folding parachute slows your descent, allowing you to tether an enemy helicopter that has opened fire on you. Two seconds later, bye bye pilot, you are in control of the chopper and rain lead on the enemy reinforcements.
Yes, none of it is remotely believable, but it's spectacular and a lot of fun. People criticize textures and models, but forget that this game does not have small levels that limit geometry. A bird's eye view of the map is always one second away, without frame rate drops or loading delays. If you think you can have a huge game world that morphs into super hi-res graphics the moment you look at something near you, I have a Star Citizen to sell you. I mean, I just played Days Gone and apart from the looong loading times, I would often end up in a zone of the map which the game engine hadn't finished loading yet, sometimes falling through the ground to my doom! JC4 handles its world beautifully and with no such delays.
That said, I feel Just Cause 3 was indeed better. They tried to change the formula by adding different missions, but it's just as repetitive and somehow makes the experience worse. The intro of JC3 was smooth and bombastic, it made you wanna play the game. The intro of JC4 is essentially nonexistent. The new balloons make most of your weapons redundant against basic enemies, since they are deadlier and consume no ammo. Your old reusable explosives required you to jump into danger to place them, and were a better game device overall. Enemies used to have perfect aim, which was bad, but now cannot hit a barn from ten feet, which is just as excessive. Many small changes did not turn out as good as the designers hope, but I still recommend this game. If you've never played a JC before, though, go grab the 3, which you can probably buy for a pittance nowadays.
Ah, as of April 2020, I must say that I found no major bugs, the developers must have solved them all by now.

You can see what the developers learned from the shortcomings of the previous game (less grind and easier to complete), but to release a game that's not finished is a slap on the face. The graphics are horribile, with the cutscenes striking out as the most horribile. What the hell, SqEnix??

In my opinion, there are only two positive or unique things about JC3. The wingsuit gameplay and the world design. I consider JC3's map one of the most beautiful of all games. JC4's map is far worse. Bigger but way duller.
JC4 has at least stable fps and don't run on 10 fps when things are exploding. But at what cost? Textures are constantly loading in, sometimes you find yourself falling through a texture that's supposed to be solid but hasn't loaded yet. Also lighting engine is kind of weird so JC3 is graphically better.
In conclusion, Just Cause 4 doesn't improve on its predecessor in any major way and feels rushed.

Controlling Rico feels more of the same, but the driving mechanism is as always bad. It does however seem to do okay when you drive fast vehicles. Driving slow vehicles in areas with trees is terrible, vehicles handles bad, goes slow, and seem stuck many times when you hit debris. The Camera acting crazy at times. You are better off on foot and wingsuit or aerial vehicles when travelling around.
The world is large and nice made, but lacks content. In fact, this game seems to struggle with the typical problems open world game has: Content and lack of diverisity.

Just Cause 3.

When Just Cause 4 got announced, I really got excited. The trailers looked awesome, destruction wider and more explosive, the graphics looked better than ever in the series and that tornado!! This I thought really couldn't be a disappointment, and after playing Just Cause 3 (which is probably one of the most entertaining games I have played) my expectations were high.

Then the opening cutscene happened. And.... That cutscene really looked like a bad PS3 game, with bad lip sync and blurry motions. It then switches to the gameplay, again quite blurry and bad frame rates. Well, the first mission was happening at night, so I said to myself, in daylight, it will maybe look better... NO! TWICE AS WORSE! Now it looked like a PS2 game!

However, the gameplay is still fun as always. Grapple through the world with the parachute and the wingsuit is still a satisfying feeling. So, even though gameplay is the same, I still enjoy it, and I don't mind the game keeping the same formula for this or future installments.
The new tethers with balloons and turbos are quite fun, but that’s about it. Fun. I couldn't use them effective in combat. Only for stunt jumps that need a balloon to make a car gets extra high in the air, or make a cow do crazy flips with the turbos.
Combat is also the same and still fun. There is still a nice variety of weapons, with new ones fitting to the themes of the weather, like a tornado gun, which is also quite fun to use.

Speaking of the tornado and the other weather elements, well they were probably one of the biggest disappointments in the game. In the trailers the tornado looked like a beast that could destroy everything. In the game, it only works as a vacuum with no explosion or catastrophic damage. Houses and cars still are present and untouched after a visit of it.

The driving is quite frustrating. The handling is bad, especially bikes is rocket science to figure them out. Vehicles are the same models as in Just Cause 3, however I feel in Just Cause 3 the vehicles were fun to drive, but in JC4, they are really bland and unexcited.

The story in the Just Cause series has always been secondary. However I feel like there is potential for an emotional story about Rico's family. The same in JC3. Without spoiling, Rico's dad's past is the reason Rico is in Solis, however we don't get an explanation why Rico should care about that or a detailed explanation of his dad. Only that his dad was friend with the dictator. There is a lot of interesting characters in the game, including Rico's old boss, Sheldon. But there motivations or backstory is quite left out which is a shame. For me, the only "exciting" characters are the minor, Garland or Javi. They are both interesting and little satirical, but sadly, there are only minor side ops characters. But they are really the most iconic characters.
The liberation of Solis is really boring. The gameplay is fun, but the objectives are repetitive in the bases. But the liberation of cities and landmarks are questionable. How on earth can stunt jumps or wingsuit races become a factor to liberate those? The liberation in JC3 is way more entertaining and makes sense. To liberate a town you have to destroy the enemy in the town. Not by doing stunt jumps. Well there is a form of liberation, with squads. I don’t mind it, I think it is an ok addition, however, when the squads are liberating regions, I could have likes to come and liberate the regions with your squad instead of it been automatic completed. It could be like destroying things like in JC3. Another thing with good potential, but bad execution.

I like the layout of the map, with different climates. But it is just a huge map with no life at all. At least not as promised. Wildlife is least present, NPC’s are lifeless and generic and the cities look almost the same. The long distances to travel are boring because of its lifeless world. It just empty fields where a flower is the most interesting to see.

Comparing Just Cause 4 with Just Cause 3, JC3 is really better at all levels. The only thing I can say I prefer with JC4 is the radio stations in cars. That was not present in JC3, but I didn’t need it in JC3.
Really, Just Cause 4 is a huge disappointment, liberation is boring, objectives too repetitive, vehicle handling is really a tough one, bad frame rates, ugly cutscenes, and the Story doesn’t live up to its potential. The same with liberation could be a potential but flops. The good thing, which is an important one, gameplay is still fun and I will always enjoy grapple and flying with the parachute and wingsuit.

this game is basically an update for the last one it's 80% the exact same game with a few new rather creative ideas that expands the already wide freedom sandbox to test even more your creativity for example you can make an airship with just a storage unit u can make your own boost for cars and vehicles. the famous grappler has some new abilities and feels better, a bit complicated but you'll eventually get used to it, the load times are pretty much improved now it's just one loading when starting the game then you just jump in the game the action is pretty good, theres a lot of hilarious easter eggs and references , you have so many means of traveling the huge map, the overall performance is improved tho i noticed some rather downgraded graphics and shorter draw distance, if you're looking for the story in a just cause..wtf are you doing the story isn't anything new. the same revolution **** , other that that's pretty much it as i said a updated just cause 4 with storms and tournados. overall it's a disappointment comparing the jump they made from jc2 to jc3 jc4 feels underwhelming in the mods , abilities variety of cars. it's not by any means worth it's full price of 60 bucks (20$ at max) . this game doesn't deserve a 3/10 neither it does deserve a 8/10 this game is the meaning of mediocre 8n video games a solid 5/10. it's on ps+ now so if you have it or it drops on sale i would definitely recommend it this game can be a lot of fun to the right person.

Super boring plot, badly executed, with uninteresting characters that you barely even see thought the entire game and none seems to actually DO anything important. It's always the player doing everything, while the rest are just ordering you around and pretend they're useful. Game's fun, that's good. A humongous map filled with little lame challenges you must do. Medium game, it’s pretty repetitive, but has great gameplay mechanics so it’s not so bad, but the story of the game you just start to remember what’s happening in the end of the game, because the whole game you just kill people and that’s it, I would give a 6,5 but since there isn’t here’s a 7

Possibly the greatest asset of the Just Cause franchise has always been the vast open-worlds in which they are set. Mindly bogglingly big tropical island paradises full of objects to blow up or collect. True, there has never been much depth to the activities but at least there were activities. Just Cause 4 seems to have forgotten the purpose for having an open-world. Mindly bogglingly big tropical island paradises full of objects to blow up or collect. True, there has never been much depth to the activities but at least there were activities. Just Cause 4 seems to have forgotten the purpose for having an open-world. Aside from a few very rare parachute/flight suit challenges there is literally nothing to do in the world. There are no collectibles, there are no bases to raid, there are no settlements to liberate. There is only the main narrative. I just don't get it. Why go to the length of making a massive and rather pretty world without putting anything in it? People, cars roads, villages, cities are all just set dressing. You cannot interact with them at all. In previous titles there was always something to destroy or collect and it was fun to do so in a childish smash the building-block tower sort of way. Without it I just can't see any reason to continue playing. Sure, there's the story but after playing through the last 3 games the only things that sets them apart are the graphics. Without that I couldn't tell you which is which.
Other small niggles that hampered my playthrough were:
    - The mapscreen does not zoom out far enough.
    - Weapon aiming is a chore delegated to auto aim for most of the combat.
    - You never have enough ammo to go wild.
    - Vehicles sound surreal.
    - High speed driving feels like controlling Sonic 2006 rather than driving.
    - The weather conditions provide little more than a parachute boost.
    - Overthrowing regions is delegated to the mapscreen UI rather than gameplay.
    - There are surprisingly few guns.
    - Enemies have impecable aim from miles away.
    - Enemies are difficult to identify as such.
    - Grappling up a building still has that awkward hop where you go from the side of the wall to the top of it.
    - The soundtrack is rarely appropriate, playing peaceful music during gunfights and action music when strolling through a field.
    - The world is so beautiful that it hurts to know there's nothing to do in it.

game has decent graphics, fun traversal, and the vehicles control pretty well, but the game is pretty empty, with little to do besides blow stuff up and and do crazy stunts, but the game is still enjoyable. id say buy it if its on sale, or if you can get it for free like i did.

Just Cause 4 is just another sandbox game that brings nothing new to the table. If you are looking for mindless destruction with a terrible story, this is a game for you. If you’re looking for something deeper, look elsewhere.

A shallow yet occasionally thrilling sandbox that doubles down on explosively stupid antics. The campaign is too grindy for its own good, and Rico's looks are fading, but this B-tier open world can still charm. [Issue#158, p.78]
