It's a decent game, but it's less than 2 hours long and offers no replayability. The gameplay is solid, albeit extremely simple, and you can tell it's been designed to be played once and put aside. Not BAD, but not great.

It's a good game overall. Nice remaster, graphics look stunning and music too. Apart from that the game is too small for it's original price (I got it about 5 euros from ps store at a discount), doesn't offer anything interesting (my opinion) and can be confusing at the beginning. Journey is more interactive art than a game. You don't really have any real challenge and the gameplay is simplistic. It does however have an outstanding art style and soundtrack. It's brief but poignant and somehow creates and emotional impact, especially when adventuring with a random co-op player.

    Pros:
    + Graphics
    + Soundtrack
    + Puzzles

    Cons:
    - Boring
    - Wouldn't classify this as being a "game" but more of an experience
    - Little to no replay value whatsoever

    Verdict: 5/10

Artsy games like this are not worth your time or money. If you want to be emotionally invested, go watch a movie.

Why this game gets overwhelming praise is beyond me. Its a fine little game you can play for 2 hours and definitely has it's moments especially towards the end. it does a great job with environmental storytelling and is artistically beautiful but it doesn't do enough in my opinion to warrant anything higher than a 7. That's not to say it's bad though. It was a good time and I enjoyed it. IWhy this game gets overwhelming praise is beyond me. I would describe this game a atmospherical walking simulator as the main aspect feels to impact you visually and by audio experience. Besides that there is nothing to do at all. You wander through different regions until you have reached your destination. I mean, it is called Journey after all.

To me I am one of the few it seems that couldnt appreciate this game. It felt even stressful to play because at times it is so low that it wasnt fun for me. I know all of this is supposed to ressemble the Journey etc but it is not enough to my liking. I played similar typed games that caught me a lot better.

I think for many people that like calm atmospherical games this game might be interesting to discover. I personally cannot recommend the "game". It has no replay value, it is very slow. Playtime is around 1-2hrs. I got it with PS+ for free so I wanted to try it but for the regular price of 14.99 I dont see the price tag fitting. That is at least my very personal opinion. I can see why this game is fascinating for others so probably it is up to everyone individually to test it out and see whether it clicks or not.

In my opinion not so great game, like all critics and players say. Yes, it is very beautiful in some moments, it is rather meditative sometimes, but there are nothing else. All this beauty and senses you have to find by yourself, and it is right, but i dont think that it's enough from game to give you only textures and music.

It's very hard to give a rating to this game. The thing is, it's not much of a game. You could try to categorize it as a puzzle game but it's not hard to notice that developers cared more about it's presentation and story (or rather its moral). You really have to approach it as a game-like experience.

Yes, from the artistic point of view - it's great. Soundtrack is really good but

Yes, from the artistic point of view - it's great. Soundtrack is really good but nothing to write home about. I feel like this game would be a lot better if it wasn't that easy even towards the end. Puzzles don't really get much more difficult the longer you play and there could be a few more.

As an artistic and emotional experience with moral - it's strong. As a game it's not very successful and I rate it as a game. If you can pick it up for up to 15€ - it's worth it.

There are several game design choices that don't make much sense and make the game frustrating or annoying. For example, the fact that you need to "recharge" your scarf to jump (until you get the white robes), or the sentinels/guardians (which are just annoying). The Snow level is also too long and annoying, with the character walking so slowly and getting pushed back by the blizzard.

All in all, the game isn't horrible but I don't think it qualifies as a good game. An interesting "experience" maybe, for people who may be looking for such experiences in video games.

Note for trophy hunters : This game is short and easy, and the trophies are fairly simple, but the multiplayer ones may prove to be tedious since you don't know who you're gonna get paired with and what they will decide to do.

Aside from reliving a few well crafted moments, there isn't much to be gained from replaying this game. The first playthrough was for the most part bemusing, it could be slow in parts but was generally enjoyable.

Don't get me wrong, I love Journey. I really do. But this was a weak port. There's a visual downgrade (somehow...) from PS3 to the PS4 version. Nothing is as detailed, vibrant, or shiny in this version. And that is REALLY disappointing to me. The underlying game is basically the same, but it still can't hold up against the original version.

What made Journey for me was essentially that, the 'Journey' itself. I had issues with other players basically messing about and not following the direction of the game so I had a much better experience following my own path. The landscapes and environments are simply stunning, Journey wasn't a thought provoking social bonding experience for me but it was a beautiful and fresh game to play.

Anyways, I failed the multiplayer aspect of the game, didn't really enjoy the gameplay, or story (if there is one), but liked the visuals and loved the music so overall the experience was okay, no idea why I had to journey to an upside-down cameltoe, and honestly think it might have been better with a narrator just to understand what the hell was the point.

Journey is designed to be a relaxing game which doesn't stress you with difficult gameplay mechanics or any gameplay at all. It IS relaxing and it IS pretty but that is it, there is no re-playability, no fun and interesting mechanics and no reason to really buy this unless you one of those artistic types who cares more about how something looks rather than how it works. You're just along for the ride and have no real control in the direction, I would have more fun by walking somewhere.
This game gets an extra point from me because it was the only game that I fell asleep while playing, I felt fresh and rejuvenated the next day because I clocked in over 9 hours of sleep, so that's something. But in the end this isn't a game it's an interactive movie and not worthy of all its praise.

This is nothing special from the original, if you already own it for PS3, just play through that copy again. This was a strange move for the company to bring when it favorably could have been a sequel to Journey. The port generation is getting old to me, polishing up a Greatest Hits game that you may buy for $19.99 or lower and charging double is just bad business. Please do what Tearaway did, we loved Tearaway, they created a sequel...If Tearaway was ported to PS4 it would have been just the same...which doesn't exactly make my wallet shoot open. If you guys have followed my game reviews up to this point, you know that I’ve enjoyed indie games like “RiME” and “Fe” a lot, and I’ve heard that games like those possibly may not exist without “Journey” (in fact, many previous said that “RiME” pretty much wore the “Journey” influence on its sleeve, and now that I’ve played both, I can see it), and if nothing else, “Journey” seemed like a game that had quite an impact on several modern games, specifically several indie games today. Recently, the game became free on the PlayStation 4, and morbid curiosity got the best of me. I wanted to give the game a shot, and see if I can feel its influence in games like “RiME” and “Fe.” And I most certainly did, but…is it wrong that this game left me somewhat conflicted? Did playing games like “RiME” and “Fe” beforehand morph my perspective on this game, given that I’d already experienced what it had to offer in other titles? I’m not sure, but I definitely walked away from this feeling conflicted.
Don’t get me wrong, “Journey” does a lot of things amazingly, specifically in regards to its art design. This game has been talked about quite a bit in how it pushes the “gaming as an art form” debate, and I can totally see why: the visuals are absolutely stunning, the sweeping landscapes are quite a wonder to behold, the score is pretty beautiful, and there are plenty of genuinely thrilling moments in the game. The writing and the way it’s presented with no words is fantastic as well, I think the game is perfectly accessible and easy to get into, and I think the way the game uses multiplayer, where you come across a player that’s randomly connected to your game, is really intuitive and it adds to the emotion that the game works to elicit. In regards to the experience, I can absolutely say that “Journey” is fantastic, and it’s something well-worth experiencing. In fact, you’ll probably be talking about it a lot even after playing through it once.
All that said, the game is held back to me because, while it’s a fantastic “experience,” I can’t say it’s great as a “game.” In fact, I’m not sure I can totally even categorize it as a “game.” There’s interactivity to it, sure, but the gameplay as a whole is very minimal, and I think that can be the game’s biggest pratfall. The developers of the game were clearly more focused on the artistic wizardry and sophisticated storytelling with this game, which is fine, but I’m personally a “gameplay first” player, and when the gameplay doesn’t stand as tall as said sophisticated story, I think it falls a bit short. I get it, it’s called “Journey” because, of course, it’s not about the destination, it’s about the “Journey,” and that’s fantastic, but with the lack of interactive, short length, and overly-easy gameplay, I found myself wondering if all of this could’ve worked well as an animated short project, or as a stage orchestra with the visuals of the game playing in the background, as opposed to a game. And, while I didn’t want my praises and critiques to be comparisons to “RiME” and “Fe,” since it’s important to judge the game on its own merits and not by comparison, I want to bring them up for a minute, because I think the reason why I enjoyed games like “RiME” and “Fe” as much as I did is because, yes, they are also great experiences with beautiful art design, but I personally also felt engaged with the gameplay in both of those titles, and I felt like they both remembered that they were games just as much as they were experiences. With “Journey,” though, it’s all about the experience, and the gameplay feels tertiary to it all, unfortunately.
Overall, I wanted to love “Journey,” and honestly, as an experience, it’s fantastic. Hell, the artistry of the game kinda makes me want to go back and play it again. But, from a gameplay perspective, the game doesn’t match up as well, and it doesn’t feel like the “masterpiece” that I’ve been told it is. Gameplay aside, I definitely recommend that you, if nothing else, experience “Journey” in some way. If it’s by way of watching a YouTube video, watching a friend play, or just doing some general research on it, I absolutely recommend you experience the game. Just make sure you know thyself and what you like in a “game” before picking up a controller and playing it.
Final rating: 7 out of 10 “Good”

OK so its got some nice scenery and was fun to play through once. Still decidedly average in my view. It irks me that a game like this can be rated so highly with the limited play time or value you get out of it.. Expand

2 horas caminhando na areia em visuais exuberantes, enquanto se imagina uma história. Duas horas depois, você pode colocar um jogo no seu PS4 e se desafiar.

Great game, confusing at first, but once you get a hang of it you will start to understand it more and more. SCEA did a good job with the design, and the graphics are really good.

Such a brilliant and emotional game, marred only by crashes. The soundtrack, graphics, and gameplay are fantastic, and you'll definitely want to replay it as soon as you finish. The addition of multiplayer is surprisingly fun, especially during the later levels.

It's hard to really get into the amazing atmosphere when you're back at the menus all of a sudden, which causes you to restart

This game has beautiful visuals and sublime soundtrack with a story that is open to interpretation. Unfortunately, I didn't have much interaction with a couple of players that came across during my play through, which I think can change the whole experience. Overall it's a game that has been worth experiencing it but that I doubt I'll replay or remember in a long time.

Contemplative game, without difficulty or challenge for the player. Just pick up your controller, turn off the lights and relax. Like other games in this genre, its great virtue lies in its beauty. It's short, very short, I finished it in an afternoon. It's beautiful, but I like games with some kind of challenge. Even so, it's a recommendable game, you don't lose anything for finishing it.

Journey is a beautiful game with great visuals and audio, and I can recognise it's artistic merit. Personally though, I didn't connect with the game in the way that others seem to have done, and I can't help but feel it's quite overrated.

Don't get me wrong, it is a visual treat, and the music is good. It's also a neat idea to have a random companion join you on your, well, journey.

Don't get me wrong, it is a visual treat, and the music is good. It's also a neat idea to have a random companion join you on your, well, journey. It's interesting having that companionship there despite the limited interactivity. The final moments of the game are also really strong and act as a touching climax.

However, beyond that, there's not much to Journey. It's a very simple and short game, which isn't a problem, but in the roughly 2 hours it took me to finish it, I never really felt affected by the game. There's not much in the way of gameplay and there's no challenge, so your enjoyment of a game like this hinges on whether or not it can engage and entertain you by other means. Unfortunately, I didn't find the wordless story or Journey's other elements to be super compelling. It has its moments, but I don't get the hype.

It's a decent, very pretty experience, and I like some of its ideas. Artistically, it does have some value, but as a game, it's one I was a little disappointed by.

It's a decent game, but it's less than 2 hours long and offers no replayability. The gameplay is solid, albeit extremely simple, and you can tell it's been designed to be played once and put aside. Not BAD, but not great.

The videogame is really imposing, I love sensation of being nothing in the world and the music is beautiful. However the history is really bad and the cinematics are really boring

This game is good and calm. But its definitively not good for rating 8 and above. So my rank is 7. Too short and too simple.

This game would've been more enjoyable if I played it when it came out. I only played it recently and just didn't enjoy it much. It is a unique game. Maybe I will play it again and then I will be able to enjoy it more.

A perfect example of style over substance. The game's story is nothing to write home about but damn there is A LOT of style and atmosphere in this fairly short game.

Farklı bir deneyim. Oyun denebilecek çok fazla yönü yok. Yanında biri olunca ayrı etkileyici oluyor ama fazlası değil.

Game is a kind of interactive art if you ever regard it as a kind of art. You cannot really feel any art if there is no proper interaction at all. It is just an okay polished adventure game without much content.

This was an ok palette cleanser after a few grinding experiences going for Platinum level trophies in much larger expansive games. Experiences that left me at my wits end. The game can be 100% in 6 or 7 hours with the guide. A handful of awkward collectibles and a few easy puzzles and you have have this one in the bag.

I think the experience was interesting and admittedly engaging, but it's overrated. A bit like with 'Shadow of the Colossus' there's a reverence to this Playstation exclusive game that paints it as something truly special. I can appreciate the best things it has to offer. I liked the challenge of finding a co-op partner. I liked what that could mean in terms of trying to clear collectibles (as in they can get cleared before you get to them yourself). I appreciate that the game has ideas that do unexpected or untried things, for at least at the time. It's fine, but I can't honestly put this up there with the like of the best gaming has to offer during this generation, no way. I mean, this is a top 10 or 20 placing on Metacritic, right? It feels like this is basically a competent mobile puzzler / platformer to me. The rudimentary controls definitely suit it. And it's up to 2 hours at the high end/max to do a full run of the story.

All that being said, it's not like I had to pay for this title as of writing. It came free through a Sony initiative for anybody with a Playstation. Generally though, this 'should' be very cheap as like I said, it could easily have been a strictly mobile gaming thing.

El juego es espectacular estéticamente y la banda sonora es una pasada. Se hace un poco tedioso a veces y es excesivamente corto, se acaba en seguida para el precio que tiene me parece que deberia ser algo más extenso.

Not really my cup of tea. Wouldn't have played it if it wasn't for free. I have to admit is looks really nice, but it's very short and I don't see a way I would replay it. I can't find any satisfaction playing or finishing it. Not a bad game, but looking at the reviews, it is definitely overrated.

You have to go into this game with the right mindset, it’s more of an interactive piece of art than it is a game. Once you can shift into that mindset, you can really appreciate it for what it is. I knew very little of this game going into it, I just knew it was an experience more than a game. I didn’t get it the first half of the game, but then it connected. It’s an emotional experience with zero spoken word, and the journey itself is the story. The game does everything perfectly, the graphics are simple but pleasant, the music is beautiful, the gameplay is just enough to keep the journey moving without taking away from the concept. The length of the game is perfect, anything longer would have been too much art and not enough game. I also really appreciated the careful detail that went into it, such as volume of your character’s “voice” during the more trying parts of the journey. It was beautiful, worth experiencing at least once. Not particularly groundbreaking, but enjoyable. Expand

The review scare might seem weird for a game of this stature, but lemme explain. I’m usually not into these minimalistic artsy games or puzzle type gameplay in general. Journey is one of few exceptions. Maybe I have to replay it since it’s been years but I still look back fondly at my experience with this game, even a little bit of nostalgia comes from it. Captivating exploration game that I'd describe as an arthouse videogame with a similar vibe to PS2 cult classics Shadow Of The Colossus and Ico. Adrenaline junkies may find it a little too ponderous but it's a rather unique experience with some truly special moments.

It’s as much a part of the PlayStation legacy as Ico is, as Shadow Of The Colossus is. Its place in PlayStation legend goes beyond its similar presentation and taps into something more sublime, something more exhilarating.
