Home is a very atmospheric type of game and definitely maintains a fair amount of mystery throughout. Definitely recommend playing this game, especially for the price.

This game is not scary but more boring. It gets kinda interesting at the end but it isn't really worth the journey. You can't die. There are lots of clues to find and there are what seems to be different endings but all of them aren't very interesting. At $3 for a couple of hours, most of it being in boredom, it probably is not worth your money. The most "unique" thing about this game is that some how a phone game got on Playstation 4. Expand

A "choose your own adventure" style video game that lacks the substance to fall into the "adventure" genre. Point to the table, there's a note on the table. Read the note and pretend you understand what's going on in the story. This is the biggest hiccup in what I can only assume was a game marketed to young children or parents who still think Goosebumps is scary. There are several endings, and the game is short enough to where if you're a fan of the overly simplified formula, you can replay the entire thing in a little under 2 hours and see a different ending. Not that it matters, because no game has ever conveyed any kind of story effectively in a 2 hour span, thus killing the driving force of this independent entry. Don't pay for it if you want to try it, wait for it to be free again (already happened twice) and check it out then. Just be sure to have a back-up game for after the first ten minutes of short, boring text sequences and flat graphics/sound/everything. 3/10 Expand

A quick and interesting journey. It is what it is and shouldn't be judged by what it's not. Disregard the negative user reviews, they are complaining because it was not the type of game they liked rather than whether the game was good as a game.

This game is what it tried to be - it's an uneasy adventure with great atmosphere. This game really isn't a game in any sense of the word, you just find items, click on them, read their backstory, keep going. You find out bits of the story and by the end shape it all back together, and even though it's a short game, I just can't recommend it for its absurd price.

This game is really boring and can be easily speedrun with all possible achievements unlocked in under 2 hours.

I enjoyed Home for what it was. It was simple, but, for $4.99 on PSN, it was a good deal. The game may have been a little slow at some points, but I'd recommend giving it a shot if you want to try something a bit different.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I went into this game with no expectations. I didn't even expect to play through the whole thing. I'm not big on horror games, but I was curious about this one. I wondered how a 16-bit game could even make you feel uneasy. And after playing through it multiple times (to get all the trophies and see different endings), I can see how.
The game starts in the dark. You find a flashlight that only lets you see your immediate area. Already the claustrophobia was kicking in for me. As you walk around, you realize your character has a limp. Hobbling to the next room, you spot a dead body. The questions start piling up.
There's very little in the ways of music in this game (maybe none), it's almost entirely atmospheric sounds, and that plays to the game's advantage. The doors that creeeeeeak loudly and the wind blowing through the trees in the woods, it's all very ambient and creepy.
My biggest concern going into this was: will there be jump scares? I hate jump scares, they're a cheap way to startle the player. This game doesn't have much in the way of visual jump scares (no boogeyman will jump in front of the screen or anything), but there are a few audio cues here and there, not too much to get annoying or predictable. I was fine with these.
The visuals are decent, which isn't saying much for a 16-bit game. Some reviewers claim this was a way for the dev to cash in on the trendy "retro" style, but the developer himself says this was more a challenge to himself, to see if he could make a scary game with such limitations. I'm leaning toward believing him personally; the world, though archaic in appearance, looks really nice, very reminiscent of the King's Quest games.
The endings were very interesting. After playing through it the first time, I had my wife play through it and her ending was totally different from mine. I took the results of both of our playthroughs and tried piecing together what actually happened in the world. After looking up other theories online, I realized that there is no one, solid, canon ending. Whatever happens in YOUR game (you were the killer, you are innocent but losing your mind, etc.) is canon. It's a unique way to get people to talk to each other about the game, discussing their endings and what their theories are.

    Pros:
    +Atmospheric and spooky
    +Multiple endings
+Short, but with great replay value

    Cons:
-No definitive, cohesive story can leave some disappointed
-Cutting away from the game to read text windows is a little distracting sometimes, though rarely

All in all, I enjoyed this game a lot and would recommend it to anyone who likes a quick exploration through a creepy story filled with murder and mystery. I got it for free on PS+, but I've heard the price tag is very low anyway.

Compared to other games belonging to the same genre (indie horror games), Home is not particularly good. In my opinion, the fact that text boxes fill the whole screen makes the experience significantly worse. It is not as creepy as it could/should be. On the other hand, there are some interesting narrative ideas and the vocavulary used is quite nice.

I'll give it a MEH out of 10. The reason being because overall, the game was just one big meh. The story was boring, the horror aspect of the game was some loud noises in the background, and the game itself just failed to grab me. I don't regret playing it, but it left very little to itself and didn't really deserve to be called a horror game in my opinion. I am a sucker for those pixelI'll give it a MEH out of 10. It’s an interesting way to tell a story that doesn’t necessarily have one true conclusion.

It can easily be enjoyed in its entirety in a single sitting, but there’s some decent replay value here if you’d like to indulge in all of the different permutations of its plot. And while it may not be for everyone, with a $2.99 price point, we reckon that it’s worth taking a risk on.

Home is a dark and spooky game that breaks away from other horror titles out on the PlayStation 4.
