Technically isn't too impressive, but gameplay-wise is enjoyable, and its free-to-play model is balanced and fair. If you like action games with mechas, give it a try.

Hawken may not make the grade as a mech title, but when stacked up next to other free-to-play FPSs, it doesn’t have anything to be ashamed of. The combat is faster and less impactful than I would have liked, but it’s still solid, and I spent more time with it than any other online FPS since the first Titanfall. While there’s not much chance I’ll eventually unlock everything in the game, Hawken has me thinking about going back and spending more time with an F2P FPS, which has never happened before.

Hawken wasn't born under a lucky star, and carries on Ps4 many of the problems of the troubled PC version.

The game does deliver an initial burst of exhilaration, but this is unfortunately unsustainable beyond a few outings. When the dust settles, what remains is a run-of-the-mill class based shooter, set in a series of drab environments. This is a genuine case of getting what you pay for.

Hawken has never been a terrible game, but it has never made a case for itself as anything more either. This console version puts up even less of a fight.

And most importantly for a noob like me, I was able to hold my own and not just die over and over when I jumped in. The combat is decent and the maps are ok (I have to spend a bit more time learning them to have a definitive judgement tho). Well worth checking out! Full Review »

If mechs are your thing, you'd probably want to check this out, it will keep you busy until Titanfall 2 comes out. It's a fairly deep game with many different mechs to unlock (it's been out on steam since 2012) and by now it's a pretty polished game. My main gripe is that some players pay to unlock better mechs that are much better than the free mechs and the amount of time needed to grind out enough for a better mech is way too long. Still this game is free and it's pretty fun. Full Review »

Although the dark and dirty maps can get repetitive, the various alterations on the mechs can support dozens of hours of casual fun gameplay with no need for and cash to be spent (also I have never spent a penny on Hawken).
