It’s a fun and casual yet intense mech fighting game with a fair and consistent currency for buying upgrades and new mechs and an easy to learn, hard to master control scheme. It seems like a fair F2P model and I was able to jump in, play the tutorials and then into some Deathmatch and earn enough credits to get some upgrades and a new mech without any trouble or spending any money. A fun free to play mech shooter that is essentially a poor man's Titanfall. If mechs are your thing, you'd probably want to check this out, it will keep you busy until Titanfall 2 comes out. Still this game is free and it's pretty fun. Expand

A F2P game that launches with fully working store where they sell digital goods and currency has no place to exist on any platform with such abysmal performance.

Too little, too late! This game was a lot of fun when it was in beta years ago. Since then it has become worse with almost every update. The PS4 version is the empty shell of a game that is already outdated. It doesn't even work right, tons of frame drops and camera stutters. Repetitive gameplay and uninspired upgrades. Not worth my time, no even for free.

Can't recommend Hawken on PS4 due to the constant sub 30fps framerate and frame drops that make the game unplayable, not to mention the pay to win business model that requires you to drop down cash for any decent mech to even be remotely competitive early game

The game look as best as it can for a console that has the specs of a low powered pc, but the one thing that kills it for me and made me delete it 5 minutes after playing it was the framerate. Its just horrendous to the point its game breaking. but all hope is not lost as i am downloading it for pc as i type this.

To much micropayments. This is game F2P, but you must pay for interesting improvements...
Poor graphics and weakly addictive gameplay. This is game for people with a fat wallet.

I am not a framerate snob but this is unplayable with severe jerks and stutters. Disappointing because despite being ugly it looks like it could be fun but it is disorienting to try to follow what is going on with the poor performance.

It has several modes, and a great idea, but fall short on the amount of grind you have to do to be able to complete anything remotely compared to if you were to buy something. Regular f2p game

The game feels a bit like a beta. It has some Server issues and you cant join a game while you are in a Party with ppl who dont play this game. There are framerate drops en mass at the beginning of each round but it doesn't effect the gameplay.
The grafics are good for a game that is 4 years old but surely not up to date.
The gameplay feels nice and is relatively fast paced for a mech

The mechs are well balanced and there are many of them.
Most of the game modes are fun to play but some wont work correct...

There is NO pay to win in this game! You just need a bit practice and you can even destroy heavy tank mechs with the first mech you get!
Yes you can buy heavier, stronger or faster mechs for real money, but you also can buy them with the ingame currency you get for playing the game and anyway they wont give you any advantage if you dont know how to use them. Also every mech has its downside like heavy mechs are slow, fast mechs are weak and so on...
Everything else you can buy are cosmetics and emotes.

Overall it's a nice but unpolished game with good potential. Maybe it will be awesome in a few month... or maybe not, who knows.
Right now you can have a lot fun with it if you can ignore the issues.
Anyway, it's for free, so if you like mechs, give it a try.

Just felt like a really badly made, poor mans, ps1 Titanfall. I somehow got a KD ratio of 3.0 on my first and only game before deleting it. Servers are pure rubbish and just lacks so much to actually be enjoyable. I even somehow got an ultra rare trophy which 2% of players have had and i only played one game.

I used to play Hawken on the PC and i remember having quite a bit of fun so was naturally excited when i saw it available on my PS4. I'm glad its a F2P game as selling this would be criminal. The FPS is terrible, to the point where if you get into a hectic firefight any turning movement will slow the game down dramatically, it feels like an unfinished early access game in that respect. The customization is ridiculous, you can change the colour of barely noticeable bits of trim but if you want a camo for instance, slap down the big bucks because it is not cheap and will only cover one part of the mech. You can also just buy the better mechs at a somewhat reasonable price which gives it a small pay to win element. All in all, you are better of with the half dead PC version of the game, but if you are on PC chances are you will be playing Mechwarrior Online instead. RIP Hawken. Expand

If there were another mech-type PS4 game out there, I haven't hit it. Hawken can be fun, though my late arrival to the game means that there isn't as large a player base as I would like. TL;DR: Give it a go, it ain't bad.

The gameplay is tight. Shots generally feel like they are going where they should, and hit when they should. There's a massive difference in high caliber players

The gameplay is tight. Shots generally feel like they are going where they should, and hit when they should. There's a massive difference in high caliber players versus newbies, and learning to use your mech can take some time.
Graphics are a bit sub-par; everything looks gray or brown, and the customization options are lousy. I wanna dress up my mech dolls pretty, give me some damned options.
The maps are great; I love the layouts. You have to pay attention all over the place, because there is pretty nearly always at least 3 ways to get to any point. I usually die to where I'm not looking.

There are several different game modes, but again, the lower playerbase means that it's a little tricky to play the one you may be interested in at the time.

Finally, their pay model. I like to give companies money. No, really. I especially like to do it early on, when I feel like I'm getting the best boost. Here, you can buy your mech directly, or work your way up to it. There seems to be roughly 25 different mechs to play; (there's a lot of playstyles). But, earning them is totally possible. However, there's not a lot of incentive to put money into the game after you have the mech you like. Most cosmetic options cost some cash, and some actually do look kinda cool, but there's not really nearly enough options to make me feel like, "wow, let me put the money into that!". Hard to see what you would put the money down for, as a result, unless you are really in a hurry. Averaging it out for me, it looks like about a mech a week with 2-3 hours gameplay a day. More or less, depending on your game mode, and success in crunching other people's giant robots.

Hawken may not make the grade as a mech title, but when stacked up next to other free-to-play FPSs, it doesn’t have anything to be ashamed of. The combat is faster and less impactful than I would have liked, but it’s still solid, and I spent more time with it than any other online FPS since the first Titanfall. While there’s not much chance I’ll eventually unlock everything in the game, Hawken has me thinking about going back and spending more time with an F2P FPS, which has never happened before.

Hawken wasn't born under a lucky star, and carries on Ps4 many of the problems of the troubled PC version.

Hawken has never been a terrible game, but it has never made a case for itself as anything more either. This console version puts up even less of a fight.
