CD-ActionJan 10, 2018One of the best and most popular series from Japanese arcades finally travels to the West. The single player mode is solid at most, but the multiplayer is worthy of a Game of the Year, mainly thanks to an amazing movement system. [13/2017, p.51]

Oct 24, 2017I think you’ll still need a pre-existing enjoyment of Mobile Suit Gundam going into Gundam Versus to really, really enjoy it, but the framework is definitely here for a unique fighting game. There are so many Mobile Suits to pick from, and a fair amount of unlockable content, so you can easily spend dozens of hours playing. And, thankfully, the online community is present to support those hours of playing, which is certainly a plus. I’d definitely suggest checking it out, whether you’re a fan of Gundam specifically, or giant robot anime in general. There’s a lot of fun to be had with Gundam Versus.

Oct 4, 2017Playing Gundam Versus is its own reward. While it may not be a great introduction to the series for those who read the names of mobile suits as gibberish, anyone with a fondness or curiosity for one of the most enduring sci-fi franchises of all time has more than enough toys to play with for a long time. The combat is a great blend of reverent, fast-paced, and precise, and while solo players may be disappointed in how unsatisfying the single-player is, those who’ve spent years building their own stories with action figures will find a lot to love.

Jan 9, 2018As someone with no deep knowledge of the franchise and severe misgivings about fighting game innovations, I was pleasantly surprised at how extremely playable Gundam Versus is. Great balancing and simple controls allow anyone to jump right into the combat, and the matches are always brief enough that I never felt like I was being forced to wallow in failure while learning the ropes. It turns out that a player doesn’t need to already know and love Gundam to appreciate high-speed robot carnage.

Oct 18, 2017Gundam Versus has really cut into my fighting game time. It appeals to me for many of the same reasons that more conventional fighting games do: a laser-sharp focus, the layered and complex mechanics, the mind games and the sheer speed and intensity of the battle. That it involves giant battling robots is just the cherry on top.
-
Oct 13, 2017Gundam Versus is a fun game. If you love the Gundam series you will find something about this to like I’m sure. There is a possibility of gameplay getting stale after a while because it’s a lather-rinse experience of playing, get XP, then unlock something.
-
Oct 10, 2017Easily one of the better Gundam games to ever make it West, Gundam Versus is an incredibly rewarding arena-based mech-'em-up. A wide selection of gameplay modes ensure that there's always something to hold your attention, while the tense action itself offers depth, variety, and satisfaction.
-
Oct 5, 2017While there are a few too many barriers to entry, there’s no denying that Gundam Versus provides some incredible robot-on-robot action. Each individual Gundam brings with it its own intricacies to master, and it’s highly satisfying once you’re flying your mecha around like its second-nature. There’s still room for improvement, as the single-player modes are uncaptivating at best, but the competitive multiplayer is top-notch.
-
Oct 9, 2017A great action Gundam game, penalized by instability during online matches and the lack of some modes that should have been implemented. Not only, but mostly for fans of the anime series.
-
Oct 8, 2017A superb game for any arcade style fighting game fan who is looking for fun mecha action but one that could’ve done with a better set of offline modes.
-
Oct 7, 2017Gundam Versus is an addictive arcade multiplayer game that requires some TLC from Bandai Namco Entertainment to reach its full potential.
-
Nov 25, 2017Gundam Versus might not be the best fighting game around, But its varied Mobile Suit abilities will definitely help increase the fun. A great addition to the Gundam universe.
-
Oct 13, 2017Gundam Versus is a really interesting fighting game, if not a little barebones. There aren’t any overarching features or modes to keep you engaged. There is just an absolute slew of mobile suits, a very competent move set, and opportunities for some really engaging battles. It’s going to come down to how much you like the fighting system and whether you want to really get into the competitive scene. Sadly, the last couple of days, finding matches online has become a lot harder and if that doesn’t improve, you’re not left with much else. Fans of the long-running series might have enough here to keep them, but for average fighting fans, the market is just overcrowded with great alternatives to necessarily warrant a heartier recommendation.
-
Oct 8, 2017Gundam Versus has a lot to offer, and fans of the series will no doubt be pleased with the frenetic combat and roster. It may not be as accessible to those that don’t know anything about Gundam, but there’s still a fast and engaging battle system to take part in with a strong multiplayer offering. While the staggering roster of mobile suits is intimidating, it’s impressive how much variation there is, and just trying each one out and mastering it is going to take you quite a while.
-
Oct 5, 2017Gundam Versus is dedicated to the Gundam universe, and the treatment of the source material is easy to appreciate, even for someone unfamiliar with the series. That said, some loose mechanics, the paltry localization, and multiplayer's inability to deal with less-than-perfect network connections aren't easy to ignore.
-
Oct 5, 2017Gundam Versus has turned out to be a fairly acceptable game. The title points all on the amount of unlockable elements and the charisma of the Gundam universe.
-
Oct 2, 2017Gundam Versus is OKish: it's actually pretty fun when played with or against friends, but the manipulative roster, the lackluster single player content and the connection issues will end up annoying even the most hardcore fans of the franchise.
-
Oct 12, 2017I went into Gundam Versus looking to get pulled in to an awesome title of battling robots but it just doesn’t grab me. The unlockables aren’t worth it, there is no story to speak of, its just a simple arcade game, with simple being the keyword. It doesn’t give me a reason to keep playing because there is no real change if I do.

Dec 13, 2017It's tough to say whether Gundam Versus is worth the purchase at full price. It lacks content, especially for those interested in single-player modes, and the multiplayer portion can easily be tarnished if you're matched with someone who has a poor internet connection. When the stars align and everything is functioning properly, there's a lot to love here. It doesn't make any efforts to impact gamers and bring in new players. When you have a small community to begin with, the only way to go is down. The only reason to buy Gundam Versus is if you have friends who will play it with you, or if you feel you'd get enough use from the single-player options to merit the purchase.

Playstation Official Magazine UKNov 22, 2017For fans of the franchise, or anyone with an urge to battle robots, there's much to love here, but its technical flaws and stingy mode options may disappoint others. [Dec 2017, p.95]
-
Oct 26, 2017The impressive selection of different mechas and a solid gameplay base are just not enough to make this game stand out when you consider its severe lack of solo material, the loss of the splitscreen mode and the low budget simplicity of its design and its localization, or lack thereof.
-
Oct 17, 2017Gundam Versus is fun, but for a short while. Ideal online, but as long as the developers succeed in enhancing the infrastructure on which their creature is based.
-
Oct 12, 2017Gundam Versus is great gameplay hampered by the content, or lack thereof, meant to support it. A solid roster is brought down by questionable absences, while the offline content lacks the kind of replayability that an arcade mode would have.
-
Oct 12, 2017I’m happy to finally have an official English release of Gundam Versus in my hands, but confused as to why it feels less feature rich than the last game. There’s the amazing framework and attention to detail that makes this such a fun game to play, but there’s just very little for you to sit down and actually put those gameplay systems to use in. Having a group of friends to duke it out with will add a lot more value to the experience, but without that, you’re looking at a delicious burger that’s missing a bun and maybe just has a little piece of lettuce on it.
-
Oct 11, 2017Fans of the series will get a kick out of Gundam Versus' fast-paced combat and customisable Gundams.
-
Oct 4, 2017Gundam Versus is, without doubt, a unique fighting experience, one that actually proves to be a lot of fun. Naturally, fans of the series will get the most out of it, but anyone with a soft spot for the genre could find themselves pleasantly surprised.
-
Oct 31, 2017Beyond the impressive visuals and large collection of different Gundam units featured in the game there is not much else going for this title. Gundam Versus is an interesting title that will tick all the boxes for any fan of the series but sadly does not feel like a complete package that is lacking in reliability and content.
-
Oct 12, 2017Gundam Versus is mechanically solid, though the melee side of the game still needs work. But that only takes this game so far. A lack of narrative or context for any of the action leaves this as a dry, multiplayer-focused game that fails to capitalise on the IP nearly as well as we might have hoped.
-
Oct 9, 2017Gundam Versus takes inspiration from across the Gundam universe and just throws it all unceremoniously into a bucket. What could've been, and should've been, a celebration of Gundam history comes across as a cheap cash-grab. I can't recommend this in good faith to anyone but the most mecha obsessed.
-
Nov 23, 2017Gundam Versus tries, without success, to creat the perfect videogame for the Gundam saga, but it only creates a mashup of gameplay and concept errors.
-
Oct 13, 2017It really is a shame that Gundam Versus has so many technical problems. It's obvious that there's a lot of content here that a true mech action fan could spend dozens of hours exploring, and as one of those true mech action fans I am beyond disappointed at my ability to dig in and see just how deep the game might be.
