Aug 22, 2018Guacamelee! 2 is more of the same. That's not a bad thing necessarily, and with a funny new story, those who have enjoyed Juan's previous adventure will likely be left smiling. But if you’re new to the franchise, I'd still recommend starting with the original game before deciding if the sequel is worth picking up.
-
Aug 21, 2018The fact is that the final impression is still pleasant, but absolutely not up to the bombastic 2013 debut.
-
games(TM)Sep 6, 2018Still brings the action and the funny. [Issue#204, p.82]
-
Aug 23, 2018Guacamelee! 2 offers a fun experience which will leave you satisfied, but it fails to offer anything that hasn’t been seen countless times before.
-
Playstation Official Magazine UKAug 23, 2018A well-put together action platformer with lots of charms, spiced up with colourful graphics, but one that fails to outgrow its influences in any meaningful way. Fun but predictable. [Issue#153, p.92]
-
Aug 21, 2018Ingenuity is the key differentiating factor and that’s what drags down Guacamelee 2 from achieving the same level of greatness. It sacrifices originality for comfort. And that mask is still quite comfortable but, like dressing up as a luchador in back-to-back Halloweens, it’s not as impressive the second time around.
-
Aug 21, 2018If Guacamelee was a celebration riot through metroidvania, its sequel feels closer to an orderly parade across the same space. Guacamelee! 2 is a warm, expertly designed, devilishly preposterous, and, ultimately, safe return to its Mexiverse.
-
Aug 21, 2018While its impact isn't as great as the original, Guacamelee 2 is a reminder of how good combat and traversal can feel when married together as they are in this 2D platformer-cum-brawler.
-
Aug 21, 2018Guacamelee! 2 is another solid, platforming gem from DrinkBox Studios. The world is bigger and badder, and improvements to the shop and Pollo power make Juan's latest quest a success. However, the sequel's extreme similarity to the original may be off-putting for those wanting more.
-
Aug 21, 2018Very similar to its predecessor but now playable up to four friends, Guacamelee! 2 always offers a mastered Metroidvania adventure, fun and colorful.
-
Aug 21, 2018Guacamelee 2 is an excellent sequel, bringing new mechanics but retaining enough of what made the first game so charming. There are times when repetition kicks in or the concepts become too numerous, but the dialogue, design and core movement will keep things fun.
-
Aug 21, 2018Guacamelee 2 takes but never quite gives; it amps up the difficulty without making the necessary changes to keep the game interesting. The result is a test of patience rather than a test of skill.
-
Dec 4, 2018Guacamelee! 2’s penchant for self-deprecating humor often functions as an acknowledgement and dismissal of its own issues. Why yes, it is awfully convenient that I’ve suddenly been pulled into an alternate timeline in which I must save the world in roughly the same manner as my last go, but no, Guacamelee! 2 doesn’t stop being an uncharacteristically halfhearted rehash just because the writers scored a few easy laughs from it.

Aug 21, 2018Colourful, characterful and disarmingly charming, Guacamelee 2 is a hit. [Recommended]
-
Aug 22, 2018A worthy successor to the first game, bigger in almost every way but without an inch of space wasted. But as it’s grown in size and ambition, so too has the gulf between the herculean feats of strength Juan is asked to perform and the incomplete feeling of the universe he’s doing so to save.
