It gets even to the point where I'm shocked that the developers thought anyone would enjoy these certain parts.

The level of precision and amount of obstacles you have to account for at the same time, and in a row, and in a limited amount of time, can get ridiculous. This game would be playable if there were trainers to bypass/modify certain parts but I couldn't even find a working one.

A game should never leave you with a feeling of "oh my god that was awful" after successfully completing something. If you're not left with a sense of accomplishment and enjoyment then the game has failed. If you're left angry at the devs then they've really failed.

There are way too many parts in the game that make me feel like "That's fking stupid. I can't believe you're making me do this". They totally sap my will to play. It got to the point on the last map where they wanted me to do a long sequence of events perfectly, and I just quit. You can skip the ridiculous sections to get extra keys, but this was part of the main game. It's not a good use of my time to do these things over and over to learn the sequence and perform it perfectly. This is supposed to be a game, not a chore.

I wish there were more medium & hard periods instead of mostly trivial then a sudden jump to ridiculous. I wish there was more of the fighting parts, especially with lots of enemies or non-trivial enemies.

Sometimes it seems like my inputs get ignored.

Only the keyboard keys are rebindable. You often have to hold one button while pressing another, except by default, with the controller, they're both bound to the same area where I only have one thumb to press both.

You can't bind the mouse side buttons or the ALT key. And the menus are not fully usable with a mouse and keyboard. This is ridiculous for a game released in 2018.

When sparring with the dummy it doesn't always bounce/land in the correct spot for you to be able to continue/finish the sequence, so you have to do it over and over till it randomly lands/bounces in the perfect way.

If you dislike doing things over and over and over this isn't the game for you.

There is no fast travel to the Proving Grounds, which means I have to run through blank map for 20 minutes each time to get there?!?!

Well having loved the first game, this game just plays it too safe. 5+ years and we get the same movesets (unlocked in the same pattern), same skilll tree, similar level obstacles and mechanics (even though all levels are new). It becomes tedious, especially since exploring "secret" levels only can gift you health and another circle to special attacks (same as first). I wanted more, but didn't get it. That's why subjectively I'm disappointed, but objectively this is still a good platformer/beat em up/ metroidvania. Expand

After enjoying the first one I knew this would be a great game. Beat it in about 13 hours or so.

    Pros:
    - Always enjoy the combat - face paced but tactical as well
    - Good difficulty in the platforming sections
    - Funny story and especially the turn based parody

    Cons:
    - Bosses were not very difficult

Yet another Mexican inspired metroidvania from DrinkBox Studios that might not reinvent itself but instead, they took almost every aspect that made the original great and polished it to near perfection. Brawl, chicken, and pile drive your way through a very interestingly designed world in this weird hybrid of condiment, meets wrestler.

After destroying the original game, I thought I was too good at pecking, kicking and jumping to ever be challenged by a game again. None the less, I found myself challenged and stimulated throughout my Mexiverse adventure. I especially liked the Picolo enemy!

Guacamelee! 2 is a great adventure in a colorful world with deep mechanics, interesting style, good jokes and funny references. If you love metroidvania genre and liked the first game, then you should buy a sequel immediately.

I loved the first game and maybe I've just been spoiled by Dead Cells but the combat is just annoying a lot of the time. The dimension mechanic is overused and it just sucks the flow out of the game.

I got thoroughly bored of one-hit kills and the platforming sections were a chore rather than fun.

On the upside, it looks nice and has some decent humour.

If this had starred a certain italian plumber it would have recieved 10's across the board. and just because dead cells is a 10 , does not mean this isnt. this is a bonafide 10/10 game in its own right.

I loved the overall vibe of the game. The gameplay is refreshing and the level design is good. Some parts are funny, some parts are difficult. Overall i would say that the game is well balanced. I really enjoyed playing this game. The only con is the co-op mode.

Guacamelee 2 offers a solid 2D platforming and metroidvania experience like its predecessor. The sequel from Drinkbox also polishes up the gameplay and adds a few new elements into the mix. However a lacklustre story (even compared to the original) and tedious combat and platforming sections keep Guacamelee's second offering from being a truly fantastic metroidvania.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This was shaping up to be a great game. The writing was intelligent and funny. The mechanics were at times delightfully frantic. Definitely very challenging, but also very rewarding. I was prepared to give a 5-star rating. But then there was a glitch. An annoying glitch could bring it down to 4 stars. But this particular glitch prevented my partner and I from advancing to the next screen, and therefore prevented us from getting 1 of the 5 keys, which prevented us from getting the final pollo power and the good ending. I don’t know if this glitch is a PS4 exclusive but I didn’t see anything about it anywhere. And it happened to us 3 times. We are unlikely to return to playing because it’s just really frustrating and disappointing. Expand

Guacamelee! 2 is a worthy sequel. DrinkBox has retained and refined everything from the predecessor, while adding a number of number new features that improve on the formula. An overabundance of platforming segments can be frustrating, but the combat is as fun and as hectic as ever!

Guacamelee! 2’s penchant for self-deprecating humor often functions as an acknowledgement and dismissal of its own issues. Why yes, it is awfully convenient that I’ve suddenly been pulled into an alternate timeline in which I must save the world in roughly the same manner as my last go, but no, Guacamelee! 2 doesn’t stop being an uncharacteristically halfhearted rehash just because the writers scored a few easy laughs from it.

Fixing what wasn’t broken appears to have been the studio’s number one goal, and they accomplished it. It would have been nice for some more new gameplay elements to have been introduced and for the controls to have received a little bit of precision. It also would have been nice if the Juan had been more fleshed out, as was promisingly teased in the game’s prologue. These issues aren’t deal breakers, though, which means that gamers looking for a good time of cracking skulls and terrorizing enemies as a chicken should find the experience that they seek.
