Gran Turismo is one of those titles that we've all most likely played at some point in time. I grew up playing Gran Turismo games so it has a special place in my heart.

Recent entries into the series however haven't quite been able to live up to the earlier GT games.

With GT Sport Polyphony Digital hoped that this release would signal a U-turn in their fortunes. With Forza 7 being a disappointment I was ready to be convinced that the Real Driving Sim was worthy of that self proclaimed title once more. So has it capitalised on Forzas sub par effort? In short no.

Despite Gran Turismo games having much longer development cycles than say Forza, GT Sport has some really glaring issues, chief among them being the complete lack of a career mode. There really is no justifying the lack of a core feature. Unless you have decent internet and no interest in a career mode then this game is not for you full stop.

What GT Sport does offer is a Single Race, Time Trial, Drift Trial, 2 player split screen and the good old Driving School. Lke previous games the driving school sets you timed challenges and you are rewarded a bronze, silver or gold trophy depending on your performance. It's a strangely addictive game mode that will see you trying to beat your friends times.

In the online side of things you can either set up your own race lobby and open it up to the public and friends and this has been working well for me so far. I've had a good few epic races and unlike other racing games these didn't turn into demolition derbys.

The other online option is the official race lobbies and this is where GT Sport shines. Races start every 20 minutes or so with qualifying inbetween. It's a solid game mode that punishes you if you're a douche and takes a number of attributes into account when matching you with others. Races tend to be tense and competitive but most importantly fun.

Perhaps another area the Gran Turismo series is famous for are it's attention to detail and graphics. I'm happy to report that the cars in GT Sport are beautifully crafted with OCD type detail. Even the sounds seem to be spot on from the engine noise to the sound of the air rushing past the car as you belt along the track.

Unfortunately the graphical masterclass doesn't extend to the tracks or landscapes. To be brutally honest the trees are laughable (far worse that Forza), and there is some dreadful pop in going on on occasion. Perhaps the worst and biggest sign of laziness is when you use your rear view mirror. Seeing the track despawn as it reaches the pathetic draw distance really is irritating and unforgivable for a game of this calibre.
In a year where Microsoft were clearly going to focus on Graphics it's embarrassing to see this weak attempt by Polyphony.

Fortunately there is one saving grace and that's the gameplay. The feel of the cars is near on perfect. I love how authentic the different cars feel and love how each car has weight to it. Driving your car at speed takes skill and it's fun to master. It really is the best feeling racer I've played in an awful long time although I will add that doesn't extend to rally races which feel dreadful. I just wish they hadn't done such a shoddy and half arsed job of the rest of the game. It has a nice selection of tracks and the car list is set to grow to a more meaningful amount post launch.

A lot of reviews are marking the game down for the lack of offline content and that sure is justified, but I do feel that they've let Polyphony Digital off the hook a bit with the graphics and detail on the tracks. Yes there's an impressive Photo mode and it does look great in places but all in all I feel GT Sport leaves the series on life support. Sooner or later someone is going to pull the plug.

A fun game but I'm concerned about the lazy graphics and the lifespan of the title.

Personally for me I will be trading the game in which is a real shame. I bought the game wanting a meaty offline mode to play which just isn’t on offer here. The developers are obviously going for a multiplayer orientated game here which I can accept as they clearly want to go in a different direction. If you like just playing online, go for it. If you want a good offline experience however, go elsewhere as you will not find it here.

I like to play more an offline campaign in my racing games, versus just doing online races. It seems they only put online content for the most part. And the worst part is, if their server is undergoing maintenance, you won't even be able to save your offline mode progress.

There's not that many tracks (yet), there's not many cars either (yet). There's a bunch that are just fictitious dream prototypes...

The game is pretty big, 40+ gigs, so what is all that data used for? Videos...

So far i'm pretty dissapointed... and i pre-ordered and got the upgrade pack for 20$ to get extra cars and decorations and money to have a head start... But I wish i would have waited. In a few months you'll get all that at a decent rebate.

The game looks great, the sound is still bleh like the previous titles...

To be fair, the graphics are beautiful, museum mode is interesting and online play is well put together, however...

The game lacks depth outside of multiplayer and as others have said, is much more akin to a prologue release with limited cars, & limited tracks. With zero career mode (yes there are challenges, but no solid career progression), inability to mod cars, etc really hampers my excitement. While I understand Kazunori Yamauchi's (the game's director) interest in expanding the online segment, his comment to Nathan Birch of WCCFTECH is way off based. He said:

“Twenty years ago, when we did the first Gran Turismo, people knew what happens when you change an air filter or increased compression ratios do to your car. But the new users don’t have that knowledge anymore because they’re not as interested in the cars, so we’ve simplified [some areas of the game] so you can do the exact same thing you were doing in the past, but it’s more user-friendly for people just getting into cars.”

Unfortunately that's not true. Gamers aren't ignorant of the real world - in fact I would argue that many gamers are more in tune with the modern sophistication of driving than most.

Before the haters unleash, yes I know it's called "sport" and not a numbered version, however it's not a Gran Turismo game at all. It is a brilliantly executed online racing sim if that is what you want, but it should have been marketed under another name. It is readily apparent the Gran Turismo moniker was used specifically to bolster sales numbers - to convince people (like me) that love the tried and true aspect of the series to shell out money - especially in preorders - in the hopes it will live up to it's namesake.

    Pros:
Online racing is some of the best
Beautiful graphics (especially in 4k HDR)
License tests are true to form with the series
You can feel the uniqueness of each car in it's handling

    Cons:
No internet, no real play or saves
    No career mode
The whole entertaining progression of working your @$$ off to gain another car to expand a garage is gone
    No dynamic race conditions

All in all, if I wanted to play multiplayer, I'd play CoD or StarCraft II. If I wanted to get my FIA license, I'd spend my weekends on a real track working towards that end. ...and if I want to play Gran Turismo, sadly I'll have to wait until PD understands what has made the series so successful in the first place.

I'm a Gran Turismo player since the original game on PS1. Always loved the game, and its sequels.

GT Sport is NOT a Gran Turismo game. It seems it's a GT Prologue, or GT Academy, but to be honest it should be called GT DEMO. I have played the Beta, and I don't see any difference in the full game. CAMPAIGN/SINGLE PLAYER: Not existing. You only have driving licences and a few tasks.

I have played the Beta, and I don't see any difference in the full game.

CAMPAIGN/SINGLE PLAYER: Not existing. You only have driving licences and a few tasks. A joke.

ONLINE: Another (horrible) joke. On day 1, you could only play three races (N300 on Brands Hatch, GT3 on Suzuka, GT4 on another track I can't remember). Every 20 minutes there is a new race, except it's ALWAYS THE SAME THREE. You can only grind on and on the same three races. So I think, well.. tomorrow there will be new races? No, on day 2, SAME THREE RACES. Day 3, can you guess? SAME THREE RACES. There are championships, that will start only in November and will be: 1 race on wednesdays and two races on sundays. Seriously? The whole game is ONLY this?

SPORTSMANSHIP in ONLINE: Another real bad joke. Basically you drive carefully and with fair play, but at some point a missile from behind bumps into your car and you get 10 seconds penalty, even though you have done NOTHING WRONG. This happens all the time, there are YouTube videos and Reddit threads about it.

VR: another joke. It's just a tech demo, where you can go head-to-head with ONE AI car, which is setted as super easy (so you over take it immediately, and then you basically are driving alone on an empty track). Also, it doesn't really look any better than DriveClub VR, which is widely considered as a terrible downgrade in graphics. Clearly the PS4 Pro isn't powerful enough to render VR as good as a PC, so graphics look more like a PS2.

Stay away from this .. bugged, lackluster demo (not a full game!).

There's also already 50 more cars planned for additions from now until March 2018, and there will be even more to come afterwards.

Guess what... it's all officially for FREE. NO PAYMENT REQUIRED. This is how it's done, thank you Sony and Polyphony.

Watch Turn 10 asking for 19.99$ or even 29.99$ on Forza for such a DLC with this amount of brand new content.

Looking forward to see way higher scores around here, because 6.0 at the time of me writing this is laughable for such a great title.

    First Edit:

10/10 to outweight the idiotic zeros.

I see some people talking about always online and the lack of in-depth singleplayer as a dramatic minus without which they can't live... you're crazy.

GT Sport is an online focused competetive racing title which actually gives you the challenge to battle against real opponents as opposed to more than often old and boring singleplayer AI. It was also advertised as such. Online play is what the games in the future will be all about besides strict RPG genre, and even that is debatable. Racing games especially should and will focus on multiplayer. You can already see the trend going towards this direction, since it's much more enjoyable for customers and easier for developers. Most people playing the games have internet these days, always online is not a problem especially when it's working fine on the server's side, and so far it has been working great in GT's case. Current singleplayer content is more than enough to satisfy multiplayer peoples needs.

Some bashing the game purely on what they expected versus what the game is supposed to be like is the definition of human idiotism, really sickens me to see such toxicity in gaming communities.

Judge it for what it is, not for what you'd like to see in the title which aims for completely different goals than what you've imagined.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    - Similar handling and physics to the best of the best driving simulators on the market, certainly up there and almost as good as Assetto Corsa from what simulator racers and wheel owners are talking about. All in all top notch, surely simulates real driving better than other racing games like Forza Motorsport and Project Cars ( Project Cars is debatable but if anything, it's at least on the same level ).

    - Best photorealistic graphics and HDR lighting in the full-on proper track racing title to date. - Confirmed and proved by Digital Foundry.

    - Best vehicle models created to date, completely remade from the ground up as opposed to the other Gran Turismo titles. Each car took 6 months to create, also part of the reason why there are only about 150 cars at launch. The other part is the developers had to set up the car classes for FIA championships first.

    - Free vehicles, modes and tracks with more than likely full quality incoming after the game's official premiere, which shapes up the car list number to 500. Confirmed by the CEO of Polyphony.

    - Realistic sounds, which are spot on. If you actually compare it to real life, it's extremely hard to tell a difference. They're not exaggerated, like in Forza where many cars sound alike and similar to the Nascar vehicle.

    - Multiple modes, from singleplayer normal races, through campaign events and challenges to official sport and multiplayer races in the lobbies made by players, thanks to which as a standard you're driving against real opponents which finally gives you something challenging on the plate.

    - Driver rating, which so far has worked extremely well in most cases ( in mine as well ), and gives you a fair chance of winning against the other people, by only adding up the players of your level of speed and fair play rating to the race.

    - Online connectivity hasn't been an issue on my end at all, besides the maintenances made by Polyphony. When servers were up, they were up and running extremely well. It shows a very good future for the game which bets on multiplayer.

    - VR support, which is just an addition to the game with 1 v 1 battles and overall a cherry at the top, but still looks amazing.

Considering how many AAA games aim for online play these days, and will keep doing so in the future, this is the best GT to date that squeezed itself into the current market very nicely.
If you're looking for a serious console racer which gives you all kinds of options, from racing itself to praising the cars or doing the best photo realistic pictures arou

Gone is the sense of satisfaction you get from growing your collection of dream cars, of buying a normal road car and turning into a race contender and yes, even easily winning a race in a vastly overpowered car. If you enjoyed any of these activities, you will be disappointed by GT Sport as they are simply not there.

The argument that GT Sport has better, more competitive racing just doesn’t add up to me either, anyone who thinks this can’t have played the more recent entries in the series very much. Whilst it was possible to enter the Sunday cup with a super car and win easily, as the races got harder, and more challenging cups were unlocked, this was simply not possible. When everyone has a race spec 1000bhp GT car you can’t just throw in a turbo charger and win the race, it’s simply not an option, and neither is winning if you come of the track, or repeatedly bump into other cars.

GT Sport takes itself very seriously, which is fine some of the time, but without the variety offered by the other entries in the series, without the more light-hearted elements, it just doesn’t feel like a Gran Turismo game and it’s simply not as fun to play. It looks great, and online racing is well implemented, although even this is extremely limited at launch; but there is nowhere near enough content, the sound is still lacklustre, and it falls short of the realism of Project Cars 2.

I find it impossible not to feel cheated by GT Sport, this was a missed opportunity to make a game with great multi player and single player elements, it could have been a truly fantastic racing game with a much broader appeal but instead it feels like a cut down product, more like a Prologue version than a full release. I’m left with a sense of loss and I find myself contemplating if what so many people loved about a Gran Turismo game is gone from the series forever.

No career mode, online-only focused content and forced connection races will surely turn off every old school Gran Turismo fan (including me). I felt no progression whatsoever while playing this game, (besides the lackluster tutorials, which granted, are many and challenging) and soon the game became a headache inducing grind towards no goal in particular.

The gameplay is actually really good, but the sound and visuals leave a lot to be dessired. No longer is GT the flagship of modern race simulators... i actually encourage buying either project cars 2 or Forza 7 if you own an Xbox One.

With such a lack of content in Sport, and the non existant ambition and evolution that the series had always shown, i cannot recomend it for $60.00. This game is barely a $15.00 experience for me, and i just felt my heart breaking while typing this... i never thought Gran Turismo would pull a street fighter V **** thing... but it did, and it's so much worse

Gran Turismo for me was all about buying a clapped out golf, having a few races in Sunday cup, then whacking in a turbo etc and whooping the AI. This is simply gone from GT Sport. I have no desire to race real people, I'm not good enough and accept that, but the joke of a campaign in GT Sport falls way short of the previous games.

Then there is the severe lack of cars and tracks, it's shocking they are charging full price for this. I presume they plan on releasing DLC packs to get even more money, in which case they really should have given this shell of a game away as a free to play title given how little content is here on day one.

If you want a car collecting game with a meaty career mode, get Forza 7, if you want a sim with a decent amount of tracks, get Project Cars 2. If you're a tortured GT fan of old, wait for Gran Turismo 7 :(

Probably only worth getting if you can pick it up cheap from the bargain bins in a few months time, but this does not really make me feel enthusiastic about Gran Turismo upcoming versions.

Instead, you can get in a queue and drive around a track by yourself for 20 minutes until the next online race starts (for real, that's not an exaggeration). The game should not be branded Gran Turismo. It's not a successor to previous GT games. It's just a pretty shell for online races – it's a different game entirely. That's fine, but "Gran Turismo" means something to players, and they cut 90% of it out. Sony won't give refunds or I would have returned it. My fault. I won't pre-order a game and make that mistake again.

If you really need a racing game for your PS4, you might as well get Micro Machines World Series. At least with Micromachines, you'll get a lot more bang for your buck with better vehicles, tracks, and you get some action. By the way, no always online. That must be nice.

I don't have a problem with this game conceptually. If this is the direction Polyphony wants to go, then great. I just feel like it would have been better to not embargo the reviews and make really clear communication to the fan base that this game is ONLY for those with the skills to play an online racing game. As it stands I think Sony wanted to make sure this game sold at the kind of volume a regular GT game will sell at; so they downplayed the lack of features.

As a busy person who was so looking forward to that old excitement at a new GT title; I was so sad last night. Even after playing many hours...it just felt dead to me. I basically was put though several hours of not-so-fun training for an online game I will never be good enough to enjoy. I'll keep trying; because I want to understand where they are going with this...but this game just makes me sad.

I just want a modern version of GT3/GT4...but I guess that is not to be.

Everything feels just so polished, just perfect. From the slick menus over the amazingly well put together soundtrack, which feels very GT but still more fresh and modern, to the spectacular graphics, even on base PS4, I think I didnt have this much fun in a racing game since over a decade. The lighting in the game is just something that needs to be seen, the level of detail on the cars has just to be admired.
While the car and track list seems on the lower side, it doesn’t bother me at all. The new campaign mode feels substantial on its own, with additionally highly customisable SP races. The new progression system constantly rewards you for racing in the game, be it upgrades, cars or money. The new excitement and variety the Sport mode adds to the game looks like it will carry the series to whole new borders. I frankly think it’s the best and most fun implementation of online in a racing game I’ve ever seen. I’m actually also quite impressed with the new AI. Cars behave very naturally and dare I say human, try to stay competitive and put on a fight at higher difficulty races.

The sound of the cars, the old step child of the series, has drastically improved. It sounds generally very convincing, differentiating between the different views, pops and crackles, great use of environmental reverb in the fascinatingly good and close to real life looking reviews. Developer Kazunori Yamauchi’s interest in artistic camera work shines here as does it in the new photo and Scapes mode, where one can put the beautifully rendered cars in stunning real photo environments, all with the correct light situation resulting in breathtaking shots, if the player is willing to dedicate some time. Same goes for the new livery editor. Gamers will lose days and weeks over those modes, I sure did already.

If you’re only remotely interested in cars, buy this game. It’s more than a game...it’s a work of art.

First I really was impressed by the colourful graphics. But soon I realised Ist only because of the unrealisticly powerful colours and glowing and mirror effects of the car... the asphalt has no Details, the trees look more 2D than in Forza... after few minutes of gameplay and my eyes recovered from the graphical effects I realised that graphics are far behind those of competing games in Terms of details and realism

The content in term of tracks and cars is on level of Forza 5 on XBox One... more will come later with a dlc... very likely a paid dlc.

Compared to Forza 7 and Project Cars 2 GT Sports is the worst choice to invest your money in. If you play on PS4 you are better off with PC2, if you additionally own a proper Gaming PC or a XBox One, no matter is base, S oder X Version and want to play "sim-cade" style Razer Forza 7 offers the best package for your money.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I always loved gran turismo and gran turismo 2. When i start playing gt3 up to 6 i believe that the game will come as i dreamed, like gt1 and 2. With gran turismo sports i was hopeless, and this is the first time since 2002 my thoughts comes true. Gran turismo will never be as gran 1 and 2. This is unbelievable, the game has a very beautiful graphics, and nothing special at all. There is nothing new makes me believe that the game is changed for me as a player. High detailed cars, same sound ans same missions. I wished to play gran turismo as i did in 1998, i wished to feel the same feelings that i had in 1998. I lost all my hopes during playing this game. I'm waiting for my xbox one x to play forza, i believe that track racing games can't make these huge jump at all, but forza motorsports is better than gt. At least it has many different races that i can enjoy at it, upgrading the cars has more options than this game. Gran turismo need to focus on how to upgrade the cars more than high detailed cars. The driving is dramatically different and the cars look beautiful but this isnt the Gran Turismo that we knew and loved. $60 for 160 cars, many of which have multiple variants, limited tracks, and no single player system like the ones before it is just too much to ask.

Not fun at all. The developers turned their back on what most GT fans wanted. If you want a mediocre racing simulator you might think its just OK. If you want a fun racing game like previous generations of GT, you'll think its complete garbage. Seems like they did absolutely no market research. If you do want it wait a few months and it will be in the bargain bin.

The game requires a constant online connection yet the servers and framework in place to deliver that are not adequate. During the first hour I experienced a large volume of disconnects, leaving me with only a shabby arcade mode for my £50. I have yet to complete a full race online in either lobbies or sport due to these disconnects, the game is currently down for maintenance. My patience for developers requiring constant connection has run out. This game is not a product, it is not a triple A title, it lacks content, they’ve dropped the ability to modify cars replacing it with a dumbed down level system. There are barely any tracks, an abysmal amount of cars and the game no longer has a rain setting yet remarkably it has wet tyres. The UI is extremely over complicated and some of the settings simply do not function, notably the ability to hide driver names has no effect destroying any sense of emersion. Graphical flaws exist in the cars wing, and rear view mirrors, flags appear still until you are close enough to touch them. The online lobbies have no sense of direction. All of the problems mentioned above have been sent to the developers during beta testing and no action has been taken. Most of the beta bugs remain. It is a disgrace this product was allowed to be released in the state it is currently in, literally un-playable as the servers are down. This pale in comparison to its predecessors, a shell of a game that if left as is will destroy the legacy of the franchise. This will be in bargain buckets by the end of the week.
No asfalto a coisa muda.

The singleplayer, even though it's not what we're used to, it's still good. They're actually challenging. The AI is much better than older GT games, they actually defend their position.

Not many tracks or cars? Don't you worry. All upcoming DLC will have them and they're COMPLETELY FREE. This game also doesn't have any MICROTRANSACTIONS. This is a huge plus.

There is nothing wrong with having a professional events such as FIA tied to your game but when you basically abandon those who have supported your game for years by forcing them to be always online and cutting the single player content down to prologue level proportions that is not excusable. I can't help but feel they are simply using the GT name to generate sales as casual fans like myself will pick this up having no clue what the actual package contains, and it isn't much, sparse car select, tons and tons of repeat models, 17 whole tracks and no dynamic weather. I'm tired of supporting shady business practices such as these. People keep screaming that it's not all about the content, well for $60 and myriad of years waiting for a GT entry on PS4, I disagree, it's all about content and quality and meeting expectations, other games on the market are doing it and I expect them to do it as well. Do yourself a favor and wait until this goes on sale or buy PD2 or Forza 7, much better entries in the racing genre. The holidays are coming so all three games will be cheaper in the next few weeks. If you want true hardcore, a little too hardcore, racing sim try iRacing, that game is the definition of racing sim but it's PC only, the next closest is PD2 which you can get on consoles, FM7 if you want a wealth of different cars to drive and build and like weather dynamics. 2. No real career mode (just boring tutorials)
    3. Realism is good but this is just pretentious. Because Lewis Hamilton became a pro playing a video game. Hello, you're a game.

    Pros:

Unlike GT6, Forza or Project Cars you can now play online. How they managed such an amazing feat in 2017 is beyond me.

its shocking how a game can take years to come out and have such little content. all the stuff that made gt a gt game have gone. this is just an online only game . no buying parts for your cars and no proper single player campaign. why didnt the adverts show this. me and loads of other people feel robbed. im returning this rubbish and sticking with project cars 2 . if u own only a ps4, getits shocking how a game can take years to come out and have such little content. all the stuff that made gt a gt game have gone. this is just an online only game . no buying parts for your cars and no proper single player campaign. why didnt the adverts show this. me and loads of other people feel robbed. im returning this rubbish and sticking with project cars 2 . if u own only a ps4, get project cars 2. thats a real driving simulator. people giving it 10/10 are just fanboys. The criticisms made about the game is made more compared with the other GT games and old versions. But here we are trying to do something different. Yes, the other racing simulation games and single-player career mode seem very different from previous games. However the graphics, the race mechanics and the sounds of the facts are very close. Maybe, GT sport is not fully ready yet. ButThe criticisms made about the game is made more compared with the other GT games and old versions. But here we are trying to do something different. This game is incredible. great graphics, the best lighting in a racing game, the best replays. The gameplay remains incredible, You do not need a steering wheel to make great times on the track, joystik responds with a unique precision. AI has evolved a lot since the last version of the GT series. One word: amazing...

This game is great. Although not for everyone as it is mainly an online focused game I think that this is honestly a great racer that will evolve much more over time but as it stands it is a fine addition to the gt series as this is more like a gt online than anything else. Overall a great game. Expand

I'm just disappointed, a few cars, a few tracks, no championships, no dynamic weather, no rain, no real damage! nothing out of the ordinary, a real disappointment.

Исключительно продуманный симулятор, настройка машин на высоте,так же как и их детализация. Играть желательно на руле,в моем случае пробовал с G29, Всем любителям автосимов советую.

GT Sport boasts an excellent driving model and superb car models, but primarily it’s a paramount step towards blurring the line between electronic entertainment and sport, and on a global scale. I just hope Polyphony continues working on the game until it reaches its full potential. [13/2017, p.42]

Standard online races built on proven-by-the-years core of the Gran Turismo series. However, it suffers from an acute lack of content. In addition, if you play solo you have to avoid Sport. [Issue#280]
