Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection is a crispy, entertaining and gloriously merciless experience... even on the PS4.

Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection stands out as perhaps one of the most accessible games in the series yet. The various difficulty levels, accompanying adjustments, and the unlimited lives for all difficulty levels give series newcomers a sense of hope that they can see the game to its conclusion. At the same time, the title remains tough and uncompromising in enemy count and gameplay, giving longtime fans some comfort that the series hasn't lost its appeal. It is a solid game, and the only players who should stay away are those who hate facing an elevated level of difficulty from the get-go.

Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection on the PlayStation 4 is a little bit more crispy and fluid than the Switch version, but the two editions are on-par on the entertainment side.

Ghosts ‘n Goblins Ressurection is a fun and fitting installment in the classic franchise. It doesn’t reinvent the wheel, instead choosing to give lovers of the series, and the genre, more of the same. It looks and sounds great, and the difficulty options, while controversial, are welcomed with open arms by this gamer. A few updates to the playstyle and story would have been nice, but I still had an absolute blast playing this game.

A textbook example of how to meaningfully update to a classic title while keeping the core appeal intact, Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection is a superb way to experience Capcom's arcade classic for both new and old fans alike.

Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection is exactly what you'd expect a remake of Capcom's classic: It's painfully difficult to the point of parody, but it also features gorgeous visuals and imaginatively punishing design to create a beautiful knightmare.

The high level of difficulty means that it’s unlikely to be everyone’s cup of tea, and it’s a shame that its easiest mode locks players out of a great deal of content, but there’s no denying that a valiant attempt has been made to make it more accessible. And what’s really surprising is that it also offers a surprisingly novel local co-op experience.

Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection looks great, sounds great, but unfortunately, doesn't play great. Fans of the genre and/or franchise will likely find a lot to enjoy here, but those new to the spooky world of Ghosts 'n Goblins may end up tapping out before they see the credits.

A decent update that has a love/hate approach to difficulty. The art style can undermine the gameplay, and on harder settings it feels unfair rather than unforgiving. [Issue#3, p.138]

There's so much exploding clothing in this game that you'd be forgiven for thinking it's another instalment in the Senran Kagura series. Fortunately (or, depending on your opinion, unfortunately) it's just the unbelievably fragile armour of enduring Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection protagonist, Sir Arthur.

If you’re after a game where the challenge is turned up to 11, then Ghosts ’n Goblins Resurrection is more than ready to take you on. For everyone else? Unless you’re ready for the frustration, then you might want to stay away.

I’ve played many difficult platformers in my time but this isn’t the way to go about. Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection does everything you’d expect out of a game from this famous franchise but painful controls and lifeless graphics make me question why something as advanced as the RE2 Engine needed to be busted out when this game looks like it was done completely in Flash.

The level design is clever and devious. The reason I only give the game a 7 is that the difficulty is through the roof, to the degree that I don't feel my "skill" has any impact. Whenever I came out alive from a challenging fight, I was just lucky.
I put about 60 hours into this game. So granted, maybe after another 60 hours my skill will improve. But I more or less doubt it.
But still, the game is very focused on its design philosophy and gets consistently harder and harder. Despite it almost costing me a controller, I respect it.

I grew up playing the original Ghosts 'n Goblins on NES and SNES. I've beat those games more than once and they were definitely tough. I'm also a big fan of the Soulsborne games and have beaten every one of those, so you'd think this game would be right up my alley right? Unfortunately this game is seriously lacking in the elements that made those original games tough but enjoyable. It is needlessly difficult to the point you don't really feel like you're accomplishing anything or getting better at the game. The closest thing to describe it is throwing yourself into a meatgrinder and hoping you come out on the other side in one piece.

Each level has massive amounts of obstacles in your way while simultaneously having boat loads of enemies thrown at you. Your character is as slow and useless as ever to the point you are certain to take tons of hits fighting bosses, making it a race to see who can kill who faster rather a game of skill. The game simply is not fun to play in the least. The one thing I'll say about it is that the art is very well done. Other than that, unless you're into BDSM or something, you shouldn't even waste your time on this one.
