It might not be the perfect reimagining of the series that fans have been hoping for, but Gauntlet: Slayer Edition is about as close as anyone has come to delivering the contemporary Gauntlet of our dreams.

It’s a streamlined dungeon-crawler with easy-to-learn combat and a great selection of time-tested characters. Things may start to feel repetitive after a while, but playing with your friends and taking breaks every couple of levels can help things feel fresh again.

Retooled and improved, Gauntlet: Slayer Edition is the perfect dungeon crawling adventure for you and three buddies to undertake.

Gauntlet Slayer Edition is a fantastic co-op game, and a decent solo experience.

Simply put, Gauntlet: Slayer Edition is a great lark about with buddies, and Arrowhead almost hit the bullseye with this one, if only the visuals and music were a bit more interesting.

Gauntlet: Slayer Edition allows us to relive a classic dungeon crawler genre. A fantastic co-op game for you and your friends.

Gauntlet is good for coop fun. In you can’t play with friends you miss all the fun.

A welcomed release on the PS4 that is a blast with friends for satisfying, short player sessions.

While the Slayer Edition may not be a huge time sink, it’s still a lot of fun and a great co-op experience.

Of course it doesn’t change the fundamentals of the reboot that was established last year. But with additional modes and gameplay tweaks fighting with (or against) your friends for fame and gold it reaches a new level of fun.

A worthy port of the PC reboot, Gauntlet: Slayer Edition adds loads of stuff to unlock, new abilities, enemies and characters (if you buy the DLC), but some will be put off by the unforgiving difficulty and sketchy servers.

This is the Gauntlet we would have wanted to play last year: a lot of new features that increase the replayability, including two new game modes. There are still some issues with the camera, but overall this is a pretty good dungeon crawler.

Gauntlet: Slayer Edition offers an entertaining multiplayer experience filled with action and fights, but lacks a little in the single player mode.

Gauntlet: Slayer Edition streamlines the combat and adds a bit more replay value to last year's release, but there still isn't quite enough meat on this dungeon crawler's bones.

The Gauntlet's saga returns to console with an entertaining (but perfectible) enhanced version that retains the original gameplay and adds a bunch of new features and gameplay elements.

There are moments in Gauntlet: Slayer Edition that shine. Whether it’s successfully taking out a room full of enemies with your three co-op partners or, even better, single-handedly, because your friends already died and now they owe you a debt. These are the moments that people will play for despite its repetitive nature, but that repetition is ultimately the deal-breaker and the other issues only serve to reinforce that there are other games in the genre that do it better.

Don’t bother with Gauntlet: Slayer Edition if playing solo, and expect the end game to be little more than a massive grind for gold.

This could have been much better if it had made a few more modern day concessions like random loot drops and a proper XP system. Still, if you're a retro gamer who fancies a change to Diablo III, it's undeniably fun for an evening session while you catch up with friends or even with randomers online.

The difficulty is there; the multiplayer is solid and does the series justice in many ways. I recommended it for the hack n slash, dungeon crawler fans. Lastly, if the four classes aren’t enough, for $4.99, you can purchase and unlock the Necromancer that summons ghosts and archers.

My time with Gauntlet was educational since its existence was clearly a step in the process that led to Helldivers. As an experience unto itself? It's neither satisfying nor worthwhile, and I can't recommend Gauntlet: Slayer Edition to anyone when a superior product from the same developer is readily available on the same platform.

Gauntlet: Slayer Edition is a passable action-RPG for those desperately looking for a dungeon crawler to play with friends but it doesn’t offer much in the way of replayability or unique concepts to really recommend past that.

I do enjoy the humor this game has compared to Diablo III, they don`t take it too serious and not as complex to micro manage inventory , skills, stats etc... Well worth the pre-order! Lots of replay value and fun for everyone! Full Review »
