After playing the hilarious Tales from borderlands, solving the mystery in Wolf among us and crying my eyes out in Walking Dead season 1, I was desperate for more Telltale goodness, so I picked up GoT.

Unfortunately, after playing through the season, I was not impressed. First, let's get something out of the way: if you played a telltale game then you already know the formula: it's not a game, it's an interactive movie. You can shape the conversation as you see fit, and you have some QTE when the actions starts, but in the end it's obvious that due to the development time and limited resources, the game cannot afford to branch the story too much until the last episode of the season.

The story being somewhat set in stone is fine by me as long as the game maintains the illusion of choice through minor branches: steal a valuable item but be forced to give it back later in 5min, or leave it and be praised for your honesty. Or make a major decision which will not pay off until the very end of the season. GoT, however, fails in that it presents you with seemingly meaningful choices, but then completely forgets about them, which makes you think that this will pay off much later, until the final credits roll and you realize that there was no payoff at all. And that is quite upsetting, because it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. That would still be ok if the story was any good. Alas, the story is not that interesting, and given the death rate of characters, the PC keeps changing, which doesn't help things at all. Overall, still, I found it moderately enjoyable. There are some likable characters, and I played through just to see how it ends (spoiler: it ends on a cliffhanger). Very disappointing.

TL:DR: unless you are a big GoT fan or desperate for a telltale game like me, steer clear of this mess.

The beginning of this game is compelling and intriguing. I had not played a TellTale game in forever, and I was impressed upon first inspection; however, the game starts to falter as it goes along. The game is worth its asking price, if nothing else, for the easy platinum trophy given out for simply finishing the game.

Yet another Talltale game. This time around they use the inventory to a minimum degree, and there game feels incomplete compared to the other game that they have made. If you enjoy these type of story games, I recommend the borderland version.

Telltale Game's Game of Thrones is a very generic Narrative based gamed with a skin job to look like Game of Thrones. As any Telltale game, it may unfold too slowly at times, especially if you are waiting for action rather than dialogues. Besides, you might find some of the stories more interesting than others, in the same way as it happens with the original source. However, there are also some captivating moments in which you will really want to know what is next, and end up thinking that 6 chapters were actually not so much.

Overall, a bland game. You can tell that it was made without any passion, only for profit, taking advantage of the success that Game of Thrones was at the time. And just like in the show, the developers just kill characters here and there for the sake of shock value, thinking that they're imitating well the essence of GRRM's work. They cannot see that the reason why many important characters die in ASOIAF goes far beyond that, so they start a butchery with fatal results for the story.

Usual telltale issues of chocies not mattering (made worse here given you always lose), performance problems and slightly awkward dialogue

Maybe my expectations were too high; but the reality is that, after 6 episodes, the result is kind of 'meh'. I was never too compelled by the characters or the House Forrester as a whole (although there are some great moments when it comes to character development). The cameos were nice; but the plot felt weak, unimportant, almost irrelevant. The story never moved me - like the show brilliantly does - or even Telltale has done with past games. At one point, I just wanted to see it end.

It's not a bad game. It's just not the best Game of Thrones game Telltale could do. Hopefully the second season will be more interesting. I'm not counting on it, though.

Usually PS store or the xbox store has it where you can play episode 1 for free and then grab the full season for a cheap price. No reason to pay full price for this game. If you want a telltale game check out the walking dead or tales of the borderland. Those games shine for telltale.

I came in expecting it to be bad and was still dissapointed. Telltale by now has built up a reputation of fooling you into thinking that your choices matter in the grand scheme of things. It starts decently and is actually engaging in it's first episode but it quickly loses that in the following ones. I'm not giving it a 0 just because episode 4 was really well done in my opinion and is largely the only one worth playing.
By the 5th episode they were still introducing new plots, new characters when they should've been starting to build up the finale.
The 6th episode is just a mess. It makes you think that they were too busy with the minecraft game and forgot entirely that they were supposed to finish this series as well.
The ending was just so horribly done it's almost hilarious. Initially I got what I assumed was a bad ending, so I replayed it, did things differently, made some different choices and was only semi-surprised to find out that it doesn't really matter what you do. By comparison, Mass Effect 3 had 3, diffrently colored endings. This one has slightly different shades of grey. I looked up some videos on all the different variants of the ending and guess what? It's the exact same, with minor differences here and there, but ultimately the same.
Don't bother with this game, or any telltale game for that matter. Read the books or watch the show, at least there you're not given the illusion that you have any sort of impact on the events.

You are just able to change minor details about the flow. At the end of the day, game pushes you to the road it actually designed. I know that all Telltale games have this passive game-play gap but in this series, game openly cheats within itself to push you to the requested flow of events without any respect to your choices.

Secondly the game is full of slow moments were almost nothing happens and where the discussions doesn't seem to have any importance.

On the other side each episode also has those high-tension or epic moments. And there is also major changes on the story depending on your choices (my girlfriend and I have don't have the same ending at all) and I'm curious to see how it will continue on Season two, it's the first time the choices matter that much in a TellTale game and that's a good thing. And obviously the Game of Thrones universe, with actors from the actual show actually playing their role was great.

In conclusion the game has a mixed writing, bad technical qualities, but builds momentum on an expected season and on the whole universe of GoT in general, an experience that may please some but for the moment I'll wait to see the second season to see if they build on this season and improve the global experience or if it stills lack rhythm.

The series completely sucked me in with a great plot about two feuding Northern families, some very well disguised twists, and some excellent characters. There are some completely heart-wrenching decisions to be made - some where you really have to decide just how far you will go for House Forrester.

I found the glitches to be nowhere near as bad as described in previous reviews. In one or two instances, the frame-rate dropped... that was about it for me.

I thought the inclusion of the 'real' characters was excellently done, and none of it seemed only for 'fan service', it all felt natural to me.

I would also disagree with people who found the characters hard to relate with. I thought that Asher, Rodrick, Myra and even to some extent Gared were all very relatable, and I, for one, can't wait to find out what happens next.

    And my answer is....yesss...and no.

If you love Game of Thrones and you don't care much about the graphics and all that, then I highly recommend this.
If you have never seen Game of Thrones, if you expect gameplay or if you think your decisions will have a big impact, then you're better set by watching a playthrough of it.

+ Stays true to the Game of Thrones world.
+ The actors from the TV Show voice act their own characters in the game.
+ It does have some really interesting and intense moments worth watching or playing.

    - Bad graphics at times.
    - There's a lot of illusion of choice but this can be quite irrelevant. It's the experience that matters.

Again, if you like Game of Thrones, then definitely check it out.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I think Game Of Thrones: The Telltale Series should be improved by adding another Forrester, around 20 years old, by the name of Sokka who would be the third son of Gregor and Elissa in place of Ethan (who would therefore be the fourth and Ryon the fifth) and who would be sent by his mother to the Stark house to serve her because we are supposed to see the Stark in this game. And Arya and Bran would trust him (as Sera and Tom do for Mira and Beshka for Asher). And by controlling it, it would happen to him in each episode what happens with Gared, Ethan, Rodrik, Asher and Mira. That is to say: in episode 1, as he would learn of the death of Gregor, that of Ethan caused by Ramsay Snow and the kidnapping of Ryon by the Whitehill by a message from Elissa, he would ask Sansa and sometimes also to Arya and Bran (as Mira asks Margaery, Cersei, Sera and Tom) to help her find a way to save her family.

In episode 2, there would be a guy who would look for Sokka and who would want his death (like Britt with Gared and Daniel with Mira) and as he would risk losing by defending himself, he would be saved by Arya (as Tom does for Mira when she is attacked by Daniel). Except that since he would be on the ground and in blood, we would have the choice of killing him or letting him die and Sokka would explain the reason for his death to Sansa after that. And she would forgive him if he accomplished a risky task like Daenerys gives one to Asher respecting the rules she would give him in this mission as Daenerys gives Asher in his.

In episode 3, Roose Bolton, his soldiers and Torrhen Whitehill (a son of Ludd who serves Roose Bolton as Gwyn tells Rodrik in episode 4, if we select his brothers on the portrait of her, his brothers and their parents in the game) would greet Sansa and meet Sokka (as Ramsay, Ludd and his men do with Ethan in Ironrath and Andros and Morgryn with Mira in Port-Real) and it would happen as Ethan's meeting with Ramsay except that there would be neither death, nor kidnapping and Roose would propose a market to Sansa: a fight between Sokka and Torrhen and the Stark would ally themselves at the house of the winner. And this fight would take place in episode 5 after Sokka would have completed his risky mission in episode 4. And as he would win this fight, Sansa would tell him to decide to kill him or spare him and if we choose to l save, he'd end up in the Stark dungeon and Roose Bolton would let him stay there.

And in episode 6, as he would learn from Sera (if we tell Margaery the truth) or Margaery (if we lie to him to stay at his service) that Mira would be about to be executed and that, in addition, Elissa would send her a message telling her to return to Ironrath, we would have the choice between going to Port-Real to save Mira (whether or not we choose to marry Morgryn) or going directly to Ironrath to find Rodrik or Asher and the others. And if we choose to save Mira because Sokka would win an army by succeeding in his dangerous mission in episode 4 and by winning his fight against Torrhen and by deciding to kill or save him in episode 5, he and his men would have swords, shields and bows and Sokka would shoot an arrow at the man who was about to cut the head of Mira or Tom and he would first intervene alone before telling his men to intervene by doing noise like Rodrik in episode 4 to capture Gryff. And before leaving for Ironrath, we would choose whether or not to take Sera and Tom with us because they would have helped Mira and they would no longer be safe in Port-Real and if we choose all of this, as we should choose to have Sokka or Mira killed in battle like Rodrik and Asher in episode 5, one of the two would tell the other and also Sera and Tom (if we choose to take them) to flee with Mestre Ortengryn like Rodrik or Asher does it with Talia accompanied by Gwyn (if we choose to save Asher in episode 5 and cancel the poison or ambush in episode 6), Duncan or Royland and Ryon with Beshka.

I'm old enough to remember when games like these were sold as "Choose Your Own Adventure" books and I recall learning in my youth that those books were little more than the ILLUSION of choice. Sure, you might choose one path, but the book always found a way to steer you into the path it wanted you on; all you REALLY chose was how many page flips you made to get there. So it is with this game.

The choices given in this game are often times patently absurd or the results painfully apparent. The writing is pretty bad which is a major flaw in a game that's essentially an interactive book more than a game. I felt little to nothing for the Forrester clan, didn't have any real enmity towards the Whitehill clan, and only could muster any emotion when established (read: canon book/tv show) characters were involved in the action - and that was only because I already knew their backstories thanks to the books and TV show itself. The entire story arc is laughably contrived, especially Gared Tuttle's adventure to the North Grove in what was, essentially, a copy paste of Jon Snow's story arc from the first three books.

After finishing episode 6, I hit YouTube to check the other options and, unsurprisingly, it was exactly as I suspected: Like the similar books of yore, the game already had a set ending no matter which choices the player makes along the way. Rodrick or Asher, Ludd or Gryff, marriage or no - none of these choices mattered as the end sequence was always the same. The only choice you're really making is how many times you press the button to get there. At least they did get a couple things right about Game of Thrones: Lots of people died and at the end of the day nothing felt like it had ever mattered.

Technically, the game suffers from major glitches from start to finish but episode 6 in particular was a complete glitch-fest. Long load times, frame rate stuttering, dropping audio cues, texture problems, and so on. The experience of playing simply reaffirms my decision to avoid the Telltale series of "games". Even though I got this free, it illustrated that these games are not worth the episodic game price tag, not when you can easily hit up a library or a second hand book store and pick up some old Choose Your Own Adventure books and have the same level of storytelling with illusion of choice for a fraction of the price.

Interesting by itself as an interactive movie, but as most (or all) Telltale games, your decisions don't really make any major changes to the story. The game ends with a cliffhanger but the sequel was never (and will never be) released so it's not satisfying at all. . Expand

Dear Telltale Games, your Game of Thrones: A Telltale Game Series is a technically flawed, glitchy, poorly written TV tie-in. The way you managed to make each 2 hour episode was a 1 hour 50 minute snore-fest took a significant amount of effort.

Each episode had more than it's fair share of graphical glitches, be it NPC model being completely black and missing in the first episode, to insane graphical errors on lead characters in the final episode, or the credits being frozen and superimposed during an entire scene between Margaery and Mira. These problems are simply not good enough.
Each "choice" seems forced and irrelevant and I can't help but feel that regardless of what the player decides to do the narrative will push the player into which ever direction it wants.
Something that differs hugely from you other TV-Tie in; The Walking Dead is that somehow it was impossible to empathise with any character in this entire season. The only characters I was interested in was Beshka and the bear in Episode 6. I'm just gutted that it took me 5 episodes to realise I wasn't interested in the outcome of my choices or what happened to the characters.
The token inclusion of select characters from the show, although expected felt unnecessary, however it did help root the story into HBO's lore.
Back when the Walking Dead games came out the stuttering, lag, poor lip syncing, load times and graphical issues were sort of forgivable, but now, its just getting beyond a joke. Telltale, you need to invest some time into polishing the tech behind your gimmick.
Lastly it is clear due to the sequel-bait at the end of Episode 6 you're planning a Season 2. Alas, I must now inform you I will not be taking more milk from your cow.
Back to the drawing board you go.

he game story was cool and have some fairly predictable twists, but a fun addition to the GoT World. Would not recommend unless you have watched the show or read the books. There is a good chance you will be confused on a lot of the references and events that happen.

The game quality/style was very sloppy. Did not like the "artistic direction" they took with this one. Just looked blurry

    What Kind of Adventure?

Graphic Adventure Was it fun? I don’t think I can say enough positive things about this game. I enjoyed every second of it. Its not really playing a game, its more like watching where you can control what happens and some of the dialog. Are there any similar games? This is my first telltale game but I think they’re pretty much all the same.

Asher-He was a sarcastic **** who got **** done. He was a very enjoyable character to play as.

    Would you play it again?

Yes, as a matter of fact. I am playing it again right. Well right now, I am not playing it again but I am watching my friends play for the first time and as much fun watching them play.

    Any Complaints?

None for me. I could see where people would complain about the game. I get the feeling that your decisions don’t effect the game as much as people would like. Some people would want every decision to completely alter the game and give them a different ending but that’s just not practical.

When buying into a game or a franchise that prides itself on one part of their game, you expect that part to be perfect or at least well executed.
