I am not rating this based on the few glitches that will be fixed. I am sad because there is the framework of a good game but because of bad decisions made by the creators I am giving this a score of 4.
The game mechanics are flawed and unbalanced: 1. God frames are when a character does an animation in which they cannot be damaged. So if Jason starts a long animation where they pick someone up you cannot damage Jason. 2. Weapon animations are too slow and unresponsive meaning that a player counselor is unable to hit Jason when needed. This could be balanced by making characters with higher strength attack quicker and keeping low stenght characters this way. 3. Because there are so few ways to escape it makes it so that what you do becomes predictable making the game less fun. Everyone typically works on the car. 4. Jason’s Teleport is OP to the point where you cannot get away. I think that ruins the fun. A way to balance this is by causing Jason to knock down a player and stun then instead of allowing for an instant kill or limiting they instant teleport kills to 1 per game.. 5. Sneak speeds are too slow… making stealth Gameplay a pain and not fun. Jason’s Sence ability is OP so it does not really work anyway. 6. Jason’s grabs are unbalanced so they all can instantly kill a character upon grab (God Frames). This could have easily been solved by limiting these instant kills to once per round and by making the rest of these kills forced to be an environmental kill. 7. When you knock-down Jason recovers way to quickly (about 3 seconds) this could be counter balanced by making stuns last longer and even giving character’s with high strength additions time for stun attacks.

You scavenge for parts to help you escape but, GASP, there isn't enough space for EVERYBODY!? This mechanic was actually kind of nice, and it speaks volumes that they built an asymmetrical multiplayer system where it doesn't take perfect teamwork to succeed (because lets face it, that doesn't happen with public matchmaking).

On the side of Jason, you feel like an unstoppable killing machine. In this sense it is VERY similar to Evolve, however instead of being on the defensive from the start you simply build up to your more insane powers the longer the match drags on. It's probably the thing that works best, and its a true joy to play as the iconic killer when your turn comes up.

However that is infrequent (random selection and chances are 1/8) so settle in for some horrible facial animations because every counselor has them and you'll be playing them A LOT. Seriously, one of the first orders of business should be a boss mode style match, where its Jason V Jason V Jason or something, because as of right now the best part of the game is the smallest part of your play time with it.

This is a game you may want to wait on, but at the same time you risk never playing it while the community is thriving by doing so. Its tough to recommend a buy because while the formula is fun and works well, there just isn't much to it. There IS a surprising amount of progression and unlockables, which was a nice touch that I wasn't expecting, but its a thin veil for the lack of gameplay options.

Devs promise some good post release support, but have also mentioned several times that they were running into issues with console updates, so expect PC gamers to get the nod here for early content access, and perhaps even exclusive content.

Overall I'm a fan. The sound is good, the graphics are passable but there's nothing quite like the feeling that you're IN a Friday the 13th movie, frantically running for your life. A+ for the presentation, and by far the best game this movie has ever seen made in its honor. 7/10

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME RIGHT NOW! I bought this game 6 hours ago and couldnt play it so far because servers are pure trash. Wait for updates following their account on Twitter and check other players issues. I Will give a zero but once the devs make progress with this problem i will write a honest opinion on it! Edit: 5/10... fun for the first couple of hours.

Not because it actually does anything all that different from its competition, but rather the simple fact that it's based on one of the most iconic horror franchises of all time. The faithfulness to the property alone made it more enjoyable for me than the likes of Evolve or Dead by Daylight, despite those also being decent games in their own rights. Yet, being better than the rest doesn't mean that Friday the 13th managed to escape all of the problems that these kind of games are accustomed to. So the amount of fun you'll have will still vary wildly from match to match.

I found playing as a counselor to be the more consistently entertaining of the two options. You're given a lot of different ways to survive Jason's onslaught. A bare bones tutorial means that you'll have to figure out most of this stuff on your own, but discovering how all the different things you'll come across in the environment can be used to aid in your escape or defeat of Jason can be very satisfying, tense, and rewarding so long as you aren't killed at the beginning of the match and get to participate in putting all of the pieces together at least a little bit. Which kind of leads to the biggest problem on this side of the game. Playing as a counselor is obviously designed with teamwork in mind, but as anyone with any experience with multiplayer games will tell you even while being chased by a nigh unkillable brute in a hockey mask it's often your own teammates that will be your worst nightmare.

Coming across a group of high level players that like to hog all of the good stuff for themselves while berating the less experienced around them who are just trying to participate is no fun whatsoever. Mix that in with the game's already steep learning curve and one or more bad encounters like that could turn away some newcomers. Now, not everybody will have this problem. There are those who will come across longtime vets who are more than happy to show them the ropes. Unfortunately, it will just come down to luck of the draw as the big trade-off that comes with going online in any form is that at some point you're going to come across a jerk or two. I'm not saying that the asymmetrical multiplayer genre is more prone to these kind of encounters, but when the most enjoyable experiences I've had with these types of games were in matches where nobody was wearing a mic and we were all largely doing our own things, well, that should tell you something.

With the offline option being plagued with AI so bad it's outright unplayable, those wanting to go strictly solo are going to have to hope they get selected to be Jason. While it can be a lot of fun to rampage your way through Camp Crystal Lake leaving a trail of bodies in your wake, I did find that this side had the more flawed gameplay. Asymmetrical multiplayer games require a delicate balancing act of meticulously designed and interlocking systems to ensure that things remain fair on both sides of the experience. So it makes sense for the counselors to have a significant speed and mobility advantage over Jason considering that he's basically a walking, invulnerable death machine, but I don't see why his movements and controls had to be so stiff and clunky. This is somewhat offset by the variety of abilities at your disposal that vary across the handful of film incarnations you can play as, but those are rendered useless when faced with a player that is content to cheese the game by jumping in and out of windows repeatedly or running around a table until the clock runs out.

At it's best the game is an absolute blast. A lot of attention to detail was put into recreating the look and feel of the films, allowing it to pull off the tension and thrills of a good '80s slasher flick a nice portion of the time. The problem is that the experience is so darn inconsistent due to things like the stiff controls, connection issues, glitches, or potentially getting paired with toxic players. Because of that I can't wholeheartedly recommend it no matter how badly I actually want to.

Progression: This game doesn't offer other reward than skins uppon reaching level 31 by unlocking the part 9 Jason, it only offers skins for the counselors, making it boring to the player to grind into the game an stick into playing it.

Bugs: There's a tooon of bugs on this game, starting from glitched kills from the killer preventing the Jason player to perform a kill by the counselor escaping from him due to the fact that jason can't perform any kill, specifically on the environment, and also glitches that the counselors can take advantage on it due to the fact of poorly placed invisible barriers on the map.

Report system: There's people inside of the game that act like they want, like on every other game, but the lack of support of the developers makes this game frustating to play due to the fact that you can get killed by another counselor by either being an ally of jason by telling him your position on the map or making you waste med sprays because of your dumb teammate.

Conclusion: The game offers lots of hours of fun, not gonna lie I'm personally level 88, but I always fell stressed out when I enter to this game due to the fact that there's not host migration, making me guess who is the host and hoping for him to not rage quit by either getting killed or by me, this game doesn't offer game support yet and the community never helps you when you are on a hurry against Jason.

Now objectively this game is more of a 5-6/10, only 1 gamemode and 3 maps, limited scavenging items (Theres like 5 not including weapons), frequent disconnects, decent amount of glitches, generic and even antiquated game mechanics (Wait til you get in a car), and general repetitveness. Objectively this game should be $20 at the most, but subjectively i havd no major regrets buying it. Expand

I haven't had a single game where someone on my team has started trash talking and calling people retarded because they know that it won't get them closer to victory. But that's not even the best part of the game. Playing as Jason is one of the best gaming experiences I've had all year, and every time I play as him, I have a blast. On a gameplay and entertainment level, this game is a knockout. However, that came with some drawbacks. A LOT of drawbacks.

The main problem is that the game just isn't finished. It's very broken. There are bugs galore and most of them have to do with the game's servers, which isn't good for a multiplayer only game. The developers even had the balls to claim that the players ruined the servers because they didn't think the game would be such a hit, which is the worst excuse I've heard in my life.

It's not just bugs and server issues, either. The game is missing content. It's a $40 game that comes with three maps and is only one mode. Additionally, there's no campaign, which is the reason they delayed it in the first place. You'd think something like this is an early access game, but no. It's a full release, which makes it the most lazy game release since Big Rigs.

Overall, Friday the 13th has fantastic elements of gameplay, but no elements of polish. It really sucks to see that what could've been one of the year's greats could've is instead one of it's disappointments. Hopefully once more content is released the game will have improved, and I can update the score. But for now, light 6/10.

I mean when it was first released you couldn't even get into a game so you couldn't experience the game at all. That's in the past and this is now, so there is fun to be had with the game. When you start up the game it'll connect online and you have options to customize your characters' perks (camp counselors as they're called in the game) and you can change your Jason after leveling up some. But the juicy part of this game is online, you'll have a 1/8 chance of becoming Jason. Most of the time you'll be playing as counselor. So I'll be talking about the experience as a counselor first then Jason. Playing as a counselor is a whole lot of fun, sneaking around and trying find a way to escape the madness that is Jason. You can escape by a boat, cars, the police, etc. Though it really depends on what map you're on, and there are a total of 3. Not a whole lot, the developers said they'll be adding more soon but I'm too sure if I believe them and I'll explain later on. Matches are most of the time tense since you have the fear of getting killed. Though there is this feature where you can come back as another character named Tommy Jarvis if someone uses a radio station which is in a house somewhere on each map (the maps are huge so it's not an easy task finding them). Now lets talk about the gameplay as a counselor.

Lets start with the combat and escaping. It's fun running anyway from Jason but when you are trapped in a house, sometimes you may need to fight him head on. And the combat is horrible, you need to pick up a random weapon from each map and the hit detection is so **** bad. Your character becomes stiff as you swing your weapon at Jason, and depending what weapon you're using, will determine the outcome on what happens to Jason. If you're using a wooden baseball bat, he'll fall down with one hit. If you're using an iron pipe, prepare to die because that won't do **** The way the weapons work is weird. How can a wooden baseball bat manage knock him down in one hit but not a huge axe or an iron pipe? Besides that, the sound is out of sync with the animation of the weapons. Not a huge deal but I felt like mentioning it. Now escaping, this is where most of the gameplay is at, combat is just a way to stun and run away from him when you're in trouble with Jason. To escape, you need to find parts on the map to repair phone boxes or a car. For the phone box you need a phone fuse, for a car you need keys, gasoline, and a battery. It's actually fun collecting these and to stealth around Jason. But it can be boring sometimes.

Now the gameplay as Jason, is most of the time, boring. It's fun to talk to people in game chat if they have mics, taunting them and cracking jokes along the way as they try to escape, but most of the time they don't have mics. And it's pretty much a fetch quest trying to kill everyone on the map. And there are so many ways to exploit the game to where you can't even get to people (most have been patched). It was actually more fun to play as Jason when the game first released because no one knew what to do or how to avoid Jason. And it was like chasing chickens with their heads off. But now everyone has a plan and it's much harder to get people nowadays. And holy **** when people find a phone fuse and phone box at the beginning of the game. It's the most irritating thing ever if you're playing as Jason because everyone groups up and runs for the cops. Leaving you with nothing. Now the combat is the same as the counselors expect you can grab people and do this neat little execution on them. Now let's move onto the bad.

    THE BAD FOR COUNSELORS:
Games can be extremely slow (each game is 20 minutes, and it sucks if you die right at the beginning)
Glitches to where people get out of the map and have an unfair advantage.
The combat is stiff and wonky, and guns are throw out after firing one shot instead of having ammo.
Jason grab is broken and he can grab you through objects sometimes.
Finding items to escape are near impossible at times.
And last are the players that team up with Jason and hunt other players down.

    THE BAD FOR JASON:
When people call the cops at the beginning of the game putting you in a rush to hunt down everyone as fast as people (which is hard because the maps are **** huge).
Sometimes you grab someone you can't kill them and they can't escape, putting you both in a funny but annoying situation.
You can get stuck after smashing a door
You can get stuck after pulling out a throwing knife then pausing (which could be patched but I don't know)
People can cheese you by running around objects
And last, it's a bit boring to play as Jason.

OVERALL: Friday the 13th can be fun if you have friends or if you find right people in a game. It's filled with bugs and glitches and it's clear this game was rushed. Buy this if you have a few pals

your goal is to escape, survive or of course kill all of the councilors…
Every character has their own advantages and disadvantages.. Their own stats... the character you play as is random every match and you unlock more characters as you level up
Asa councilor you start with a flash light and nothing else…
you have a mini map but unless you find a map within the game that’s all you have to go off of
your goal is to find a nice hiding spot and wait for the timer to go out… call the cops, call in a shotgun wielding hunter character with 1 single bullet to do massive damage, or fix a car or boat and get out of there…
around the maps are houses with supplies to fix the phone or one of the cars on the map..
Attempting to do so will throw you into a quick time event where every precious second matters as Jason could be around any corner…
being cautious of your noise and fear level as this will make you easier to detect...
you can barricade doors and open windows for a quick escape, or even set traps for Jason if he comes smashing through one
there are also tons of weapons laying around, though none of them are a true threat to Jason..
Killing Jason is a possibility... but you’ll need to team up with the other councilors to do this, as you’re definitely not doing this on your own... Not even with the single use shotgun
weapons are mostly for rescuing other players or stunning Jason to escape...
And you can communicate with players using a mic once you find a walkie talkie within the game which is a cool twist
The fun part to me comes in the form of playing as Jason..
There are multiple Jason’s to unlock and Just like the counselors each has their own stats... their own strengths and weaknesses...
as the match goes on the stronger Jason gets…
at first you just have a map, then you unlock a fear censor to see characters running around, a teleportation ability which allows you to dash through the air to pop up right in front of a counselor, useful for catching up to cars and stopping them in their tracks, or catching back up with an enemy after they stun you.. a stalk ability that turns of audio cues that you’re near, and finally a rage mode towards the end of a match that buffs all of your abilities, allows you to run faster and smash down doors with ease…
and to kill la councilor you can grab and use a finisher, attack them with a melee weapon or do one of many environmental kills like throwing them through a window…
however I found that actually being Jason was far too rare even with him set as my preference I only got to play as him once every hr. and half, matches fly by when you’re the killer, but as the counselor they seem to drag on forever, made worse by the fact you have to stay and watch in case you’re randomly selected to come back in as the hunted character or if you want your xp at the end of the match..
Which awards you points to unlock a new random perk or finish for Jason...
you can attach these perks to your characters all with buffs and debuffs, and if you get one you don’t like you can sell it back to the game.. .
By biggest issue with this game however is its match making…
Creating matches takes a ridiculously long time… and that’s if you’re lucky enough to stay in a lobby without one of the frequent error connections…
once in game things are fine.. But actually getting into a game probes to be a bit of an issue on the PlayStation 4…
Friday the 13th is an entertaining game for a while... more so when you’re playing as Jason…
But constantly playing as counselors I started to get bored with the game fairly quickly, and the server issues left me feeling frustrated when I just wanted to get into a game and play…
I give Friday the 13 the game
    A 6/10

Before I say anything, this game actually deserves an 8 or maybe even a 9 in my opinion, however there are some issues with the game i must address.

First of all, lets start off with the crazy amount of bugs it has right now. While most of them aren't game breaking, I personally think that seeing players getting glitched out whenever you're about to kill someone as Jason can be quite frustrating. Not to mention the servers being terrible for some people wanting to play, I personally haven't experienced this, bur some of my friends have. Plus the terrible facial animations are pretty comedic to look at.

Now one thing that was a huge let down for me was that on console, the game is 30 fps. Now, while some people not find this a big deal, I'm a very picky guy with those kind of things and seeing this made me very disappointed. I see no reason this game can't be 60 fps considering how small the maps are and how the graphics aren't astronomical.

And one little thing I should add is the price. The game currently while writing this review is a little to overpriced. $40 is quite the amount and here in Canada, it costs $53.49. There is some content in this game, just not enough for the price.

Now with all that out of the way, do I recommend the game? Absolutely, just not right now. The game is still actually a ton of fun if you can ignore all the things that I stated above. Playing both as Jason and the counselors is very fun (I personally love playing as Jason). And again, while there isn't too much content in the game right now, the customization is still pretty good. I know Gun Media is a small development team but I believe that overtime, they will fix all the problems with this game and add more maps, gamemodes, characters, and customization.

It's an alright game that needs a lot more polish. On one occasion I found myself stuck in a tent with no way of getting out. the game can be fun in general. especially if you have friends playing with you but playing one of the teenagers can be underwhelming. I really like the idea of this game! But in the end the people that play this game are very annoying. I played two game like 5 minutes into the first one somebody was trying to kill me so I had to shoot they with a shotgun and I lost 1000 xp. But what was I supposed to do I did not want to die. I like this game, but it has a lot i mean a lot of problems. First of all there are so many bugs in this game and sometimes it lags, but the worst part is the matchmaking. You can sit for 15 minutes and still haven't found a game. But put that all aside this a fun game. It's even more great with friends. If you love the movies your gonna love this game despise its flaws.

I've only had the game for a couple of days, so there is an obvious adjustment period here, but the $40 price tag is a bit high.

For starters, the mechanics of the game are not very clear. There is a tutorial section on the home screen that I strongly recommend taking a look at before diving into online play; most of the players here have likely been playing since the title came out. I was a little late. There is an offline mode you can participate in. I, again, strongly recommend practicing before going live with your abilities. This mode lets you choose the ease of level, as well as the number of counselors to challenge. Since this is offline, it's controlled by the computer.

You can purchase 'perks' using experience points, as you can in any other game that's available. They're not 'expensive', although some of the perks don't seem to be properly priced. I won't spoil any of them for you, although if you've viewed the films, these should come as no surprise.

My biggest criticism is that Jason moves infuriatingly slow. I understand this is taken directly from the films, but in the context of gaming, it's a serious limit to your abilities. The maps are are very similar, so if you spend time navigating (a practice run, if you will) you can better prepare yourself for online matches. Much of his energy is expensed opening doors. so if you're on someone's tail, prepare to lose them fairly quickly.

The third-person view is extremely helpful, however. Unlike its competitor, Dead by Daylight, you have the advantage of seeing your opponent without the hassle of first person. Seeing your surroundings is certainly easier, and this is a positive in the layout of the game. There are tools available to help advance you more quickly (morph), so if you find yourself bored with the walking, I recommend this feature.

I had to give this game a 7 for creativity. In online play, you'll most likely be a counselor. Most people want to play as Jason, so if you find someone that doesn't want to play as a counselor, they'll likely leave the party. Team play has been disjointed for the most part. It's difficult figuring out the controls, and the layouts of the map almost guarantee an extended period of play time. There wasn't much lag to note, and glitches were minimal.

Perhaps a revamp to this game will be offered in the future. I will probably purchase it. I think a 7/10 is a fair score based on the pace of my game play so far.

I was very active and was promoted to an admin on the forum, but I haven't been on it in like a month because I can't handle the whining of little kids who lost a match and now think jason needs to be nerfed.
    I wouldn't recommend this

This game is fun, full stop. As an avid gamer I came into this game feeling uneasy and now love it. It has lag and bugs, but so does rainbow 6 and many other games. Its fun and is currently free for PS+ so give a go, and you wont regret it.

This game is a typical cult classic horror movie; gets you scared, fun to play with friends and keeps you entertained.
Is it something you want to play all the time? No, not really.
It definitely gets old and/or frustrating after a couple hours, and it seems if you don't happen to find the items you need right away you die. And this happens all. the. time. My favorite way to play this

F13: The Game is a buggy mess... but it's a fun buggy mess. I cannot begin to explain the amount of fun I had playing this game with my friends. F13 may not be a good game from a technical/objective view point, but in terms of how fun it is to play, it's great.

I do think this game could've become something really special if the lawsuit didn't end its development. But, either way, it's

Looking for a fun night in and like getting some virtual balls dropped in your face or betrayed by teammates who either kill you or help Jason find you? You'll love this.

When those other things aren't happening, it can be fun for a few rounds.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game play is good well kind of the problem is the glitches but most of them are fun you're probably the only reason you would play the game after you unlock everything and unlock the last 3 kill you you can buy with your CP until weget over a hundred levels the grammar is s*** because I'm using a microphone everytime I choose a counselor it would randomize it after the time and sometimes even the Jason's will randomize and have a weird glitchy look what is the problem if you're only good with one Jason and seemingly impossible to escape if you have a good Jason even an average of Jason is you have a Pro counselors and maybe one of your Pro counselors just don't f*** When I Grow someone 3 feet away it gets in somehow but one eye slightly miss them three inches to the left overhead it doesn't all that could grab them like they do the offline Bots f****** a basket full of pocket knives anyways bad grammar because I'm using a microphone you can deserve this please I recommend thinking about buying this game and should have just a buying this game instantly I don't know maybe it's a problem because I'm playing on Nintendo switch oh and also half the f****** weapons make no sense a f****** firecracker stun game all that's going to do is maybe that can is throw pellets you
that you and maybe can hurt your ears a little bit but it's not going to f****** hurt you and why is there flare guns at a kids camp flare gun could set something on fire

    Con’s:
    - Lawsuit ended the game way too early
    - A host of bugs are present
    - Jason seems extremely overpowered at times
    - Facial animations and character models
    - Barely any map differentiation
    - Grindy trophies that won’t even be achievable soon.

I had fun with this game with friends but sometimes it felt like a buggy mess and nothing more than a cold cash grab, hiding away from Jason can be pretty fun at times, and I love how intense the game gets, but apart from this the game doesn’t do much for itself, but this could probably be down to the lawsuit that’s been going on for a while, though I still feel like they should work on the game, if you’re thinking of achieving a platinum trophy on Friday the 13th, then prepare for hundreds of hours of misery if playing by yourself, cutscenes repeat themselves and the facial animations can be downright terrifying at times, if the game had some polish it could genuinely be a lot of fun, but in its current state and with dedicated servers closing in game it doesn’t seem like we’ll be getting that.

Chad Jones wants to recommend this game but can only half recommend it.

It's kind of a huge mess but I still sunk over 100 hours into it. As a fan of the series that must count for something.

It’s too bad that there’s no challenge mode, but an asymmetric multiplayer game based on a movie is an interesting concept itself.

Friday the 13th: The Game is the closest you are ever going to get to being in a Friday The 13th movie. It's so realistic that I had goosebumps every time I saw Jason. However if you are playing alone it can get a little boring at times, and that makes me wish that there was a decent single player mode But with its authenticity this is the best Friday The 13th game that we may ever have and it will make every fan very happy.
