Fire Pro Wrestling World is an ode to the past of videogames and to the past of wrestling, but just a small number of players will love it. Japanese wrestling is not so popular in the west, and the gameplay of Wrestling World is enjoyable only if you are into retrogaming.

The console version, then, starts somehow lame. In fact, suffers from a big problem: it is obviously more expensive than the PC version, released a few months ago and offered at a budget price.

Fire Pro Wrestling World is the best wrestling game on the market...FPW's simplistic visuals and learning curve may discourage some, who demand more flash for their cash, but those who take the time to unlock its potential may find it hard to step in the ring with another wrestling title ever again.

Though it's not very accessible and lacks a bit of polish, the amount of pure heart that has gone into Fire Pro Wrestling World means that it's a fun retro wrestling game once you get used to it. The endless customisation options and deep story mode provide great value, while the game's oddball nature is pretty charming. Like The Rock, Fire Pro Wrestling World is somehow still going after all these years. Unlike The Rock, its legacy hasn't been tarnished by an appearance in the Baywatch reboot.

I think most buyers of the game that hate it don't take the time to dig into the deep mechanics. Yes, on the surface it seems simple. If youI think most buyers of the game that hate it don't take the time to dig into the deep mechanics. Yes, on the surface it seems simple. If you gloss over the controls but don't bother going into the create a character and looking at the ratings, move-sets and logic, you're missing out. Customization is fantastic, the modding community is bustling with activity, and it constantly surprises me with little details that make this game fun (IE, settings for random guys in your stable-or opponents stable- running into the ring, having a manager ring side, etc.). This is the first fire pro game I've played and I love the flexibility and gameplay. It could be that because I'm older, I dig the graphics and overall style of the game. But it still plays ten times deeper than what I've seen across other wrestling titles. It's not a button masher, it requires timing and true strategy to win in this game. This was definitely worth the 20 bucks or so that I paid. I've spent that on much worse in my lifetime. Full Review »

I also enjoy the tie in with NJPW since that one is my favorite wrestling promotion. Costumization is more deep than ever, with several accessories for your created characters. I am really happy that the king of wrestling games is back. Full Review »

From the customization to the arcade gameplay everything is good but the online has some problems that need to be fixed
