Far: Lone Sails is a gorgeous little game with an incredible soundtrack and a journey packed full of both stressful and serene moments alike.

Far: Lone Sails is a wonderfully lonely trek that will take the player from one end of a dry ocean to the other, and it’s the rare sort of experience that says a lot without ever saying a thing.

Inspired by Journey, Limbo and other adventures Far: Lone Sails tells its Story with low-key music and a unique art design. An emotional road trip thru a deserted apocalypse.

Leaving aside the moments when you find yourself running aground at possibly the worst possible time, this is absolutely a voyage you’ll want to undertake for yourself. [Issue#162, p.81]

FAR: Lone Sails is a remarkable game that attempts to convey a message through its presentation and gameplay, without using any words, and totally succeeds in doing so. The experience may be on the short side, but if you're looking for something truly artistic and beyond much that has been done so far, look no further.

Far: Lone Sails goes a very long way with just a little. This three-hour trip offers simple but interesting gameplay mechanics that will whisk you away.

This is for players who are looking for something different. It’s a game where you enjoy the experience of traveling and finding new places, together with some puzzles.

FAR: Lone Sail could have been great. The game nails the emotional attachment to your vessel, creating a neat gameplay loop, combined with lovely art design and a beautiful soundtrack. However, the constant need to stop, combined with simple puzzles and conveying a dying world we can’t interact with created a dissonance which meant that attachment doesn’t extend to the world itself. It was enjoyable but not overly memorable.

FAR: Lone Sails is a lovely title. Remarkable environments and a strong art direction anchor a brief but compelling title. While the puzzles and amount of resources never really hit a point to make anything truly challenging, the resource management loop is more satisfying here than it usually is in more survival-focused titles. If you don’t mind that the game isn’t terribly challenging, it’s well worth playing. The laser focused design paints a bleak, but still hopeful world, and the wordless narrative has a powerful conclusion that brought us right up to the brink of tears.

The sound design, game play, and artwork are fantastic. It took me around 3 hours for my first play through which for me is the perfect length for this type of game. (To 100% the trophy list will require at least three play throughs.) The game makes every moment count and its an epic journey from start to finish. The entire production breaths quality and I would recommend the game to anyone that enjoys the finer things in life.

P.S. I get frustrated at the negative/average reviews of this game. They are equivalent to college beer drinkers reviewing fine wine. Nothing wrong with beer...but don't compare a 30 pack of bud light to a single glass of your finest chardonnay. Savor your experiences!
