I won't go into detail about the game because anyone who's played the previous games will feel right at home with these game mechanics, but for the uninitiated, its a first person shooter in a open world with a cool setting and an interesting antagonist. If you enjoy the previous games, you'll enjoy this. If you didn't then there's a high change you wont enjoy it. The setting is what really sold me, the scoring is amazing but the story never hits any 'edge of your seats' high and the game-play hasn't change much from the old games. To sum it up, it's not bad, but it's not gonna blow you away. Expand

The game looks amazing and I love the setting and the ideas behind the story. I want to love this game but there is an emptiness I feel when playing that doesn’t quite make me really love this. I feel that I am just doing the missions for the sake of it and playing the game to pass some time, not because I am really invested in it.

There are of course so major problems too.

After the prologue, I was stuck installing the game for far to long, having already taken hours to install and download.

I couldn’t quit out of a mission which I was struggling with and had to keep attempting it when I didn’t want to really - a side mission where I had to chase a helicopter on a quad bike.

The enemy placements are way too random and the patrols are everywhere making it too hectic. It doesn’t feel like a living world, it feels like wherever you are, the game sends enemies and animals to your spot indefinitely.

There is no out of car view for driving and the r2 doesn’t work for the throttle sometimes - a similar problem I had in rdr2 and the duels.

The game isn’t bad, in f t it’s fun at times but it’s not a game that makes me think wow or excites me to play.

Everything about it is just not interesting or intriguing. Feels like everything about open worlds 7 years ago was recycled here. Gun play is not impressive. The open world is nice looking but not interesting and the interactions are random. Its really annoying that you are always spotted by enemies for no reason, just by driving down the road having done nothing to provoke or cause alerts. Ai is kinda dumb. The progression system was made so that you pull out your credit card. There are neat new aditions like having people or a dog deploy with you and such, but really they dont do much and it feels tacked on. Alot of the new gameplay elements feel tacked on simple because other recent games have it.

This game is just not a quality made product. Everything about is a check list of generic things. I struggling to keep playing and I cant find any reason to care about whats going on in the story and characters. There is nothing here, if you played any other Open World game, you already played this.

I seriously think Ubisoft should consider ending the FarCry franchise. Even the new Spin-off FarCry New Dawn looks terrible.

If you are looking for a good storyline, then probably go search somewhere elsem since this game has undoubtedly the worst story I have ever played in the Far Cry series, its boring, predictable and has so much wasted potential + dumb scenes, everything else though, high quality - beautiful graphics, good PC optimization and contentful open world.

The gameplay is good, the storyline intriguing enough to keep me interested, and overall it is my benchmark - I finished it in 2 weeks, and am happy to say that the second time around is just as much fun - the higher difficulty is definitely more intense and planning tactical assaults is even more important. The best part from the whole franchise after FC3.
Finished it twice with my friend.
One bad thing is - a friend who will play with you in co-op. He will be like a main player's shadow, who don't get any achievements, story progress (on friend's ps4). His place with you - just run and shoot.

Not a great game but still entertaining.
Far Cry 5 does nothing else like its predecessors. You're always served the same thing. Only the content and appearance are different.
I got it for only 28€ and therefore I am satisfied. But don't forget to order in advance. 60€ is simply too much for the game. Now you can buy it without hesitation, the successor will come out in 2019 anyway

This game is made very well and it's one of Ubisoft's best open worlds they have made. I wished they would have added changes to the core mechanics instead of using the same thing like in every other Far Cry game, but other than that this game was really good. The cultist theme was what really drew me to this game, but there wasn't nearly enough Joseph Seed and too much of his siblings. The side quests become monotonous and repetitive very quickly, and by the third area of the game I started to just forget them and focused on the story. The map is beautiful and there were lots of side things I really enjoyed doing, like fishing and hunting. The companions you can have are usually really annoying, which is why I only ever had animals following me around. The character customization is a joke and doesn't allow you to customize very much at all. This game was honestly a 7/10 for me until I beat it, then it lost another point. If you're a big Far Cry fan, try it out, but I was fairly disappointed in how awesome this game started and how boring it became by the end. Expand

Man what a colossal disappointment. One can suspend levels of disbelief to accept the basic premise of the game. However, Far Cry 5s problems are not just with the critical design but also the characters and forced plot. I will keep it spoiler free, but there are approximately ten times you are removed from the open world and forced to watch what Ubisoft has considered important. Not only are these instances unavoidable but they interrupt the flow of any fun you may have been having. For example, I was jumping out a plane skydiving roughly 200 ft in the air which then cut to black, tied to a chair, and forced to hear the family talk about "moral" choices.

All and all you could pick a worse action adventure FPS open world game but this one had so many little annoyances that the overall experience was ruined.

Without changing the essence of what makes Far Cry work, this newest edition creates it’s own identity by really focusing on the setting and culture instead of an underdeveloped protagonist trying to be a lovable hero. The antagonists and supporting characters really get the narrative emphasis but the sheer amount of them all filling up the immense world means that the story this game tells can go on for as long as the player wishes it to.

Compared to the others in this franchise, this game is the longest by far and easily as the most to offer. There aren’t necessarily more missions but the construction of the campaign means that every side mission, every collectible, every rescue, and every kill you get simply by exploring all help lead you to the end of the game. Previous entries offered relics to collect but their only purpose was to help you level up and get money. Here, everything you do offers Resistance points which, when built up, alarms the enemy forces and sends them hunting for you. By far, this is the most rewarding system set up in these games as exploration is still promoted but it actually feels like it all has meaning now, I’m not just climbing radio towers to be able to look at a map and I’m not just talking to people in order to get skill points which felt incredibly refreshing.

Exploration is rewarding because you get what you put in: the more you explore, the more you unlock, the more experience you gain, and the farther along in the story you go. It’s also made much more accessible as you’ll be able to travel by foot or in vehicle to any point on the map. Far Cry 4 was gorgeous but the mountainous landscape made it quite difficult to traverse at times and if it wasn’t for the grappling hook in that game or Far Cry Primal, getting from point A to B would have been a nightmare (see Far Cry 2). In this game, though, you’re still offered a grappling hook if you love walking places but you’re also given the ability to fly. You can spawn helicopters, airplanes, and even fast travel to a destination via air drop (once you unlock the wingsuit and parachute). This is simply the most enjoyable game in this series, for that reason and many, many others.

You know what I’m going to say… Far Cry works best when it balances tones in a fun, action-packed open-world and no game has yet done that better than this one. With the inclusion of hilarious jokes and references (Blood Dragon 3 side mission, Larry’s alien experiments, Clutch Nixon stunt runs, and the ability to dress up as Vaas, an Omega soldier, Pagan Min, or a caveman) but contrasted with the terrifying villains who believe wholeheartedly that their cause is just (and soldiers that follow them out of desire instead of necessity) makes for one hell of a story to experience. While there is absolutely no protagonist development to speak of, I don’t fault the game at all for it because that lack of characterization actually puts the emphasis where it matters which is on the antagonists and supporting characters. I never thought I’d write that because it goes against classical storytelling but I can’t deny that it worked in this game’s favor.

Before I slap a rating on this bad boy, I think it would be fair to discuss the ways in this game didn’t live up to my expectations. I would have liked to see the return of the crossbow from Far Cry 4 instead of the addition of the sling shot but there were enough weapons and variations of them to compensate enough. I also would have liked to see more types of takedowns because since Far Cry 3, I don’t think any new ones have been added. Blood Dragon, Far Cry 4, and Primal just have all piggybacked off of the ingenuity that the 3 offered in that regard, and Far Cry 5 does the same exact thing. It would have been so cool to see more styles of takedown, and although there were new animations for takedowns based on what weapon you were holding (which Primal did), there weren’t any new mechanics added. Like, just add a takedown for if you’re behind an enemy while crouching instead of the crouching/standing takedowns being the same. It would be so easy and that one addition would create so much variation in what I see when I liberate an outpost.

It's a typical Far Cry game with most of the same Far Cry stuff in it. For the most part, as most of the other Far Cry games it's about an 8/10 but I can't stand the amount of laziness that goes into most recent games, including this one. I'll update my score when and if they ever patch the game with proper environment destruction and gyro aiming, but as it stands 4/10 => aka lame and lazy when talking about a game that can be easily made one of the very good games of this generation with jut a bit of love and care for the consumers.

The story, which I won't get into detail about, is not exactly uplifting or positive. It's like every other Ubisoft game: fight against many different enemies that pretty much look the same until you "kill" the boss enemy after which the ending is very negative and therefor not rewarding for all your hard work.

Ubisoft should be able to do a lot better than this. I'm really tired of this writing style which I've seen in Far Cry 4, Assassin's Creed Black Flag / Unity / Syndicate (I couldn't even play Origins for more than five minutes) and frankly many more. They should take a look into Uncharted, Spider-man, GTA V and several other games which contain about as much violence and as crazy aggressive antagonists, but still are way more fun to play, and certainly more fun to finish.
